Made order to go got it home they goofed up the order we called they said come in a they will fix just keep the bad order so we did. We went and picked up the correct order when i got back home the waitress called and said if we did not bring back the order they screwed up she would have to pay for the order ( WOW ) so i brought back the screwed up order. I've been going to this restaurant for many years now. The food is always great, hot and fresh! I say fresh because from what the waitress told my family and I, they cut and prepare the vegetables when they make the order. It's not frozen! Only once did I have an order that just wasn't too my liking and they quickly and cheerfully brought another dish out for me. Fantastic service! read more

First chinese place i tried when coming to grants pass. Big mistake. I can usually get through any meal and be polite, but this is the first time i ever refused to pay for food. I took a few bites and left. The worst was the noodle bowl, spaghetti, frozen veggies, with a nasty sauce, whatever they called it this was not chinese food. I would say the highlight of this restaurant are the cheap prices. As for taste, you get what you pay for. The food is bland and lacks any depth in flavors at all. We ordered a family dinner meal which was about $30 for five entrees; good price, but that's about it. The soup tasted like vegetable broth, the sweet and sour chicken was covered in a red jello-like goo, and the noodles and rice really only tasted good when you added soy sauce to them... Disappointed with Hong Kong tonight. Lived here for 30 years, and tonight is the last night. Dinner took 45 minutes. Staff was not great. We bought the Hong Kong special to go. We received one tiny box of rice..flavorless and grainy, one small box of veggies that were made from Ramen type noodles with a few pitiful celery chunks and veggies in it...again almost flavorless. The shrimp was of decent portion, but had a stink to them and I took one bite and refused to eat it..just nasty and gamey. The sesame pork had no flavor either. Their bbq pork was tender and good as was the spring roll. The appetizers were the only thing tasteful. Not eating here again. This is the WORST Chinese food I have ever had, let alone the worst restaurant food I've ever had. $14 for a pick-up of crab puffs and chicken chow mein. The food is pretty good given the asian cuisine options in town. The kung pow chicken, Mongolian beef, and pork fried rice are really good. Definitely large portions, enough to have two more meals. We don't like to eat at the restaurant cause it's not the nicest and is not that great of service either-some of the waitresses have been snotty, but it's enjoyable in our own home. :) I wish their prices were a bit more affordable- two entrees with rice usually runs about $35! My wife and I dine here a couple times a month' it has an inviting atmosphere once you enter and their service and food is very good. With all that said' there is only (1) area at this restaurant that really needs attention and updated immediately. It is the (Restrooms',,,, we make sure we wipe our hands thoroughly before going back out to our table. This place deserves rightful recognition. Family owned and has been there a long, long time. The decor is old but so what..the food is made super fresh when ordered. No msg . Veggies are crisp and fresh and always consistant and of high quality. I would rather add my own sauce anyday....so they make sure you have any sauce you would like on the side or with take out--they include the tea bags and the sauces and the fortune cookies. I've been taking my family here for 15 years and we've always loved it! I go out of my way to stop in now as I pass by Grants Pass. I was really surprised it's getting such bad reviews. Ok so the place is old and could use a good thorough cleaning but we still love it. We always get a meal that includes the mar far Chicken, BBQ pork, rice and shrimp. Those have always been consistently tasty and well worth the detour off I-5! read more

Service was good which is why I'm giving it 1 star. The food was lukewarm at best and they have the weirdest crab puffs I've ever seen. They are triangle shaped and the filling had almost no cream cheese, just a bunch undefinable stuff with a horrible taste. At approximately $8.00-$10.00 per meal, you get the following: **Your choice of coffee or tea; **Soup or salad; **A main entrée that includes chicken, pork, or shrimp; rice; and chowmein; and **Ice-cream for dessert Where else can you receive such a large, satisfying meal for such a slim price? I've eaten at many restaurants where I was charged $10-$15 for JUST the entrée! Service has always been prompt and respectful. I know several waitresses who have worked there for decades. The décor leaves a bit to be desired, I will agree, but the food more than makes up for this fact. Overall, I would highly recommend Hong Kong Restaurant. This is our 2nd time to eat there. Both times we had out of town family with us. The first time wasn't the greatest but thought that we would try again. Very enjoyable, and consistently delicious! I love the large variety, and this is my favorite Chinese restaurant in Grants Pass. Compares very well with what you find in larger towns and cities. Recent immigrants who post negative reviews don't know this: Most Chinese restaurants in America are proudly *American Chinese*, a long and cherished tradition, a coming together of the cultures and cuisines. This is not an eberration, but a time-honored and cherished thing. Most Americans prefer this, and many multi-generation Chinese American families do, also. If you don't find things like salted fish fried rice and fish heads soup on the menu, you are in an American Chinese restaurant. If you seek the fish heads and other items that most Americans do not like, go to a Chinatown restaurant. Please show the appropriate respect to great American Chinese restaurants, who incidentally, invented the Fortune Cookie. Also, jealous competitors posting nasty reviews, just stop it. Yep, it's a solid 1 star........other yelp reviews pretty much sum it up. My broccoli with chicken, and the won ton soup were 2 stars, but my wife's Kung Pao wasn't edible for her. The waitress offered her another dish, and when my wife decided that she really didn't want anything else, the waitress took her meal off the check, without any question. This is a must visit each time I visit family in GP. I'm from California with several options for Chinese Food, but I prefer Hong Kong Restaurant over all of those. The Fried Shrimp and Mar Far Chicken are delicious. I wish they had the Pink Sauce at the places I go at home. The food here was simply excellent. The lunch portions were just right. The sweet and sour pork was lightly battered. First off the hostest just threw our menues on the table and just walked away. The waitress came like a minute later and asked if we were ready, we ordered drinks (they don't offer flavors for their iced teas). Then we ordered, I've never been told no so many times. I asked for vegetable fried rice instead of pork fried rice, got told no. Then I asked for orange chicken in replacement of mar far chicken and got told no she gave me sweet and sour instead. Both my dad and brother got told no on two substitutions they tried. I didn't recieve any BBQ chicken that was supposed to come with my meal. We recieved our meal and they did not clean my shrimp. The rest of the food was okay, I'd had better here before. Then as we were eating our waitress started to sweep the carpet right next to us and stirred up so much dust and dirt we stopped eating. I have to say this was my to go place in Grants Pass but I will definitely not be coming back. Instesd I'll go to A Taste of China down the street. I'm very disappointed with this visit. read more

I am only giving this place 3 stars because the service sucked last time we were in. Waitress forgot about us and lady busing tables had to get our drinks. We got our food, ate then had lady busing tables refill our drinks. Waited some more, still no waitress, sent kid to go swipe to go boxes from behind counter, no check either and forget trying to get icecream that comes with meal. Got up to cashier and she asked if we had our check, said nope can't find our waitress. Miraculously she pops out of kitchen apologizing even though we hadn't seen her for an hour. The worst Chinese food I have ever tasted; sticky overcooked flavorless rice. Dollar store ground chicken in the "chow mien", if you can call it that. It was low budget all the way, and the texture was disgusting. I was super disappointed when I brought the take out home, only to find that not only was it bad, but the take out containers are half the normal size.
