I stopped by Home Eat and was really impressed by their cold dishes counter! It's hard to find authentic, fresh options at such a reasonable price point in the area. They have a fantastic limited-time special where you can pick any 2 items on a plate for just $7.99 (regularly $9.99). It's the perfect way to try a little bit of everything. I really appreciate their commitment to quality--their sign explicitly states that everything is freshly made daily with no overnight items, and you can absolutely taste the freshness. Pro-Tip: If you're looking for an even crazier deal, stop by for their clearance specials after 9:30 PM, where remaining cold dishes drop to just $5.99! They also have great prices on braised items like duck neck and beef. Clean counter, friendly service, and excellent value. I'll definitely be back to get my fix!

Home Eat opened a month ago where Rose Garden was. Totally renovated. All new mimalist decor. Patrons all greeted initially in English. If patrons speak Mandarin Chinese, then Mandarin is spoken. Offerings (authentic Chinese): chicken, pork, seafood, beef, lamb, vegetables, fried rice, monthly specials, chef's specials, cold dishes, appetizers, desserts, beers, drinks.... Sips: kumquat lemon juice (3.95) monthly specials. $1.25off -semi-tart, mildly sweet, refreshing with lemon juice, little ice. Worthy! Simple, no frills decor - but the food is on point. You can order via a paper menu or QR code. We got the cumin lamb combo served with rice, broccoli and some crunchy wonton chips and the Tidu shrimp pot. Both dishes were well spiced and flavored. The lamb was just melt in your mouth perfect. They also had some specials and an array of cold appetizers which looked interesting, but we were more than full with the two dishes we ordered. We will look forward to returning here with friends to sample more of their offerings!

Soft opening, so expect a few service hiccups here and there. That's pretty normal. Overall though, they seem to have enough staff around to answer questions and help out when needed. The menu can feel a little overwhelming at first. There are quite a few options and I found myself staring at it longer than I care to admit. One thing I really like about HomeEats is their monthly specials. They rotate dishes regularly and usually offer discounts on them too. Every time I see those specials, I hear Oprah in my head saying, "You get a discount! You get a discount! Everybody gets a discount!" I actually first visited HomeEats about a month ago and have been back a couple more times since then. Why did it take me so long to write a review? Well, I like to give a restaurant more than one chance before sharing my thoughts. Just like the rest of us, restaurants have good days and not so good days. One visit can be luck. Multiple visits tell the real story. After several visits, I can honestly say HomeEats has become one of my favorite spots for Chinese food. Do they serve everything imaginable? No. But they serve enough dishes that keep me wanting to come back. And if you enjoy spicy food, even better. Their spicy dishes don't just wake up your taste buds. They wake up your entire face. On my first visit, I stopped by for a quick Friday lunch with Da Boss, also known as my wife and the person who manages both the household budget and my life decisions. I ordered the Beef Noodle Soup with Pickled Vegetables while Da Boss ordered the Yunnan Rice Noodle Soup with Pork and Pickled Cabbage. We also shared the Sweet and Spicy Chicken Wings and the Beef Wrap, which in my opinion is one of those classic Taiwanese comfort foods you just have to order. The noodle soups were excellent. Lots of flavor, generous portions, and noodles cooked exactly how I like them with a little bite left in them. Honestly, the bowl was so large it could probably feed one adult and a teenager who claims they're "still hungry" after dinner. Since then, we've also tried the Mapo Tofu, General Tso Chicken, Orange Chicken, Eggplant with Green Beans, Tianjin Eggplant, and several other dishes that I unfortunately cannot remember because my family demolished them faster than a Slurpee on a hot summer day. As a family of four with two growing kids, food doesn't stay on the table very long around here. Overall, the food has been consistently delicious. The eggplant dishes deserve a special shoutout. If HomeEats ever opens an Eggplant Fan Club, I might accidentally become a founding member. The Beef Wrap was another favorite. Tender slices of beef, fresh cilantro, onions, savory sweet sauce, all wrapped inside a soft flatbread that can be slightly crispy if you catch it fresh from the kitchen. Every bite just works. Now, for a small warning. We ordered three spicy dishes during our visits: Mapo Tofu, General Tso Chicken, and the Sweet and Spicy Wings. I didn't ask for extra spice, and I didn't make any modifications. For someone who enjoys spicy food and can handle a decent amount of heat, HomeEats' normal spice level is surprisingly serious. This isn't the kind of spice that politely introduces itself. This is the kind of spice that walks into your house, takes off its shoes, sits on your couch, and starts asking what's for dessert. So if you're sensitive to spicy food, you may want to ask for a milder version. Your taste buds will appreciate the heads up. Overall, HomeEats has earned a spot in our regular dining rotation. The food is flavorful, portions are generous, and the monthly specials give us a reason to keep coming back. And honestly, with today's economy, any restaurant willing to feed my family well while helping me save a few bucks is already doing something right. Looking forward to seeing what shows up on next month's special menu.

So happy to see a Home Eat open up in Union city! After being a regular customer at their Fremont outlet, delighted to have one in my neighbourhood. The quality of food is consistently good across both locations. This location is larger and has much more seating. Parking is easy to find right outside. Service is excellent with attentive and efficient staff. We ordered our regular favourites - fish with pickled cabbage and mapo tofu with steamed rice and both were delicious.

    Mongolian Beef combo

This location just opened up in Union City, where one of our favorite restaurants (Rose Garden) used to be, so we decided to give them a shot. I ordered over the phone, and the service was quick and friendly. My husband picked it up and had no issues. The reason for the "OK" rating was their food. I ordered their combination fried rice as my main entrée since it usually has enough protein to fill me up at other locations. This time, it had an average amount of beef and chicken but barely any shrimp. The flavor was mid--no real seasoning on it. My husband ordered their Mongolian beef combo and did not like it. This is a man who likes me to make Mongolian beef at home once a week. It was bland, and we asked for double rice with no veggies, but still got cold broccoli and no extra rice. Although it's very close to home, I really doubt we will be back to try any other food from them. Really sad they took over Rose Garden's location--disappointed in the flavor.

After seeing great reviews we ordered through Door Dash from this location. We had the General Tao's Chicken with a side of white rice and the beef wrap. The Chicken was crispy and tender and the sauce was absolutely delicious. Perfect amount of heat to sweet. It was garnished with some broccoli but could have used the broccoli as a base. But still delicious. We ordered the beef wrap and it was so good. It was literally so tasty and a must try. This place definitely delivered. I would actually patron this establishment next time we visit the area. I would definitely recommend the food.

When I was told that Home Eat has General Tso's chicken, I immediately hopped up to have lunch at the soft opening. It's surprisingly hard to find around here. Anyway, Home Eat delivered. The sweet and spicy are perfectly balanced and chicken fried just right. The steamed broccoli is a nice touch that gives the palate a brief break. Portions are generous and price reasonable. I also tried the chicken chow mein. Made like it's supposed to be. Noodles a little on the firm side, buttery delicious. Chicken breast made tender. I also sampled salt and pepper crispy chicken. Very spicy. Made like a snack. Like popcorn chicken. Good stuff. Ordering at the table is digital but everything else has the human touch. Spacious restaurant with a pleasant ambiance. The renovations of the former Rose Garden worked out very well. I'm looking forward to trying more dishes although I suspect I will mainly come to satisfy a Tso craving.

Been to the other locations, the quality of food is about the same and all the locations. The pricing is not bad when they have specials but the menu that they mailed home does not match the prices that they charge. Maybe it was because we used toast to order to go. Although spacious parking lot, the spots are small. The restaurant wasn't terribly full and parking was limited because many people were parking one car per two spot spots. The food was not as spicy as I remembered from the warm springs in San Jose locations. I think because they're in soft opening. We also got sesame balls for free. We ordered four main dishes three appetizers four drinks, total came out to be about around 120. Glad there is one closer because they are open later and sometimes we can't think of what we want for dinner. Something spicy and greasy sounds delicious. We will probably be by again.

Honey walnut shrimps, beef chow fun, eggplant and green beans, beef wrap, and Thai tea boba
    Nathan N.

In case you didn't, Home Eat has multiple locations throughout Bay Area. This review is for the Union City location. Location is clean and newly remodeled, the service is good, food came fast and delicious, the menu has many varieties and price is affordable. I don't normally order boba drinks from a non-boba place but I had to try to gauge if I'll order more in the future, and the Thai tea boba drink wasn't good. The flavor was off and the boba was squishy.

    Beef chow fun
    Paul M.

This place is new. The restaurant feels like a cafeteria. Has so many tablets great for a large group. The service is promt and friendly as friendly Chinese restaurant can be. The food here was ok. The price were ok too. The serving size was good as well. I would order everything again except for the Grandma Curry Wok. It was a watered down curry. Not enough curry flavor.

    Emmellin T.

Food update: Cold dishes pig ear, cucumber, tofu, seaweed are all good. Combination chow mein, salt and pepper fish, and green beans/eggplant is delicious. The Mongolian beef was a bit salty. Overall the place is clean and service is quick. Majority of the staff speaks Chinese.

Cumin Lamb Combo... ate all the broccoli before I remembered to take a photo lol

Today (5/15/26), My coworkers and I ordered lunch from Home Eat and we are all so glad we did! I am not sure exactly what everyone ordered, but I ordered the cumin lamb combo and a Thai Tea and it was so good. The portion was good for $15.69. The Thai Tea was sweet but not too sweet and creamy. I do know that a coworker ordered orange chicken combo and she really enjoyed her food as well. I will definitely be ordering from Home Eat again and can't wait to try more of their dishes!

They give you menus and a pencil, and you mark down what you want on the sheet and they pick it up. With this type of setup, we didn't really get a chance to interact with our server. Honestly, we weren't even sure who our server was since one person sat us, another brought out water, and someone else picked up our order sheet. Whenever we asked for drinks or anything extra, it felt like we were bothering whoever we happened to stop. My husband cannot eat dinner with just water--he needs a soda--but when we asked for one, it felt like it was a huge inconvenience for the server to get it. The food, however, is really good. We especially loved the chicken chow mein again. The biggest downside was the portion sizes. There were three of us, and the portions felt pretty small, especially considering how expensive this place is. Overall, the food is great and the service is just okay. I will most likely come back despite the lack of service, but it probably won't be as often as it would if the service matched the quality of the food.

Several months ago, I visited Fong Kee Clay Pot with a different friend who gave it rave reviews. The food isn't gross, but it's something I can make myself. Cook some meat and rice, and throw it in a clay pot. Although I didn't want to come here, the rest of my friends were excited to try this place. I kept my mouth shut and didn't express my opinion. Maybe I should have spoken up because everyone was underwhelmed by what we ordered. My food was bland and needed more flavor, but I wasn't sure what to add to make it more flavorful. What I shared with my husband: Preserved egg and chicken porridge with a Chinese donut Chinese sausage w/ salted fish I was disappointed by the amount of salted fish in my bowl. I found a few sheer pieces of basically nonexistent fish in my fish. It takes less than two dollars to make this dish, so I have no idea why a bowl of rice costs $17. I love preserved egg and chicken porridge, but this one lacked sodium and preserved duck egg flavor. My guess is that they made plain porridge and dumped chicken and preserved egg into it instead of cooking it on a slow simmer. My friend had to send her dish back because she found a hair in her food. Cons: Bland dishes Expensive dishes for what you actually get Pros: Prompt and good service for a party of 7. The next time a friend suggests Clay Pot, I will suggest a better alternative and spare us disappointment.

When you enter and get seated, you will be prompted to go on the url code at the table to pick your items. While I understand that this is the new way for restaurants to serve guests post-covid, the vast menu items you have to scroll through makes me long for physical menus of the past - but that's just my boomer take for the day. There were a bunch of other items like rice and noodle dishes that looked interesting to pair with the meats, but we were only craving bbq so we skipped out on the carbs. We ordered a BUNCH of skewers, from the standard beef, lamb, pork belly to chicken skin and a fried quail. All of the skewers had the same type of dried chili powder spice seasoning mix so unfortunately there wasn't too much of a diversity in flavor profile but on the flip side, it allowed us to focus more on enjoying the meat quality itself (this is where rice or noodles would definitely help cut through the richness). All of the meats were incredibly well-cooked and charred. It is on the drier side, so be aware if you are looking for a juicier, plumper cut of meat that some other restaurants have. Paired with the Chinese vinegar, soy sauce, and chili oil, they were super delectable. My personal favorites were the pork belly, chicken skin, and beef. The service was quick and attentive, and the restaurant itself was nicely decorated. The best thing we ordered was the Sizzling Yellow Croaker with Fried Garlics (9/10). The fish was super crispy, and the sweet, garlicky skin was incredibly addictive. I would 100% order this every time I come back. We also had the Shredded Cabbage with Sliced Pork (8/10), which was nice and tangy. The cabbage soaked up all the sauce, making every bite packed with flavor, while the pork provided a great contrast to the vegetables. The House Special Fried Rice with Pickle & Beef (7/10) wasn't anything extraordinary, but it served as a great base alongside the other dishes. The pickles were an interesting addition, as I've never had fried rice prepared that way before, but I definitely enjoyed it. Finally, we decided to try the House Special Spicy Frog in Stone Pot (6.5/10) since most of us had never had frog before. The flavor was outstanding, with a great umami depth and just the right amount of spice. The frog itself was a little difficult to eat because of the large number of bones, but the meat was tender and juicy. Replacing the frog with another protein probably would have made it more favorable, but I still enjoyed trying something new and didn't regret ordering it. Overall, Ping's Bistro is a great spot for outstanding Chinese food. Every dish we tried was enjoyable, and there are still so many items on the menu I'd love to come back and explore. The prices are on the higher side, but the quality and flavor make up for it. I'll definitely be back.

If I were to sum up my meal in one word, I can do it easily: salty. Every dish I've tried today was…read moreincredibly salty. Though I prefer my food a little bit more flavorful, Ping's Bistro really shot every single flavor up. The Steamed pork belly with preserved vegetables was served first, and without a doubt, is one of the spiciest. It's a good size for sharing, but the preserved vegetables on the bottom was mushy and came in a very small portion. Though supposed to be a part of the dish, seemed to be thrown in just for some extra flavor. Though I selected mild spiciness for the Spicy Boiled Fish, it was still REALLY spicy. Maybe it's my spice intolerance, but this dish lights a fire in your mouth. Also, this dish is mala, so it numbs your mouth. Some people may enjoy this sensation, but it's a pass for me. The fish was really soft and tender though. The fish was my favorite part of the Spicy Boiled Fish. Not only there is fish underneath, it was surprising to see other ingredients like lotus, vermicelli noodles, and much more. The salted egg covered pork was extremely salty and oily. I was surprised to know it was boneless, and I felt like the salted egg crust is too thin, which let the taste of the pork overthrow any type of salted egg taste. The Country Style Sautéed Pork with Eggs and Black Fungus was again one of my preferred dishes, though it was extremely oily. I really liked the egg, black fungus, and bell peppers in this dish. The eggs and black fungus were soaked with flavor and the bell peppers balanced out the heaviness. The pork was also alright, but more on the tougher side. If you were to come to Ping's Bistro, I would advise you to order the Country Style Sautéed Pork with Eggs and Black Fungus. The floors were really sticky, but other than that, everything was alright. The water was poured messily, but I guess it's no big thing. The staff were really quiet and avoided interaction. When they serve your dish, they never wait an extra second before they leave for any questions or requests. They just drop the dish and zoom away. From my review, just remember: saltiness. I'm not convinced that I'll come back again, but I'm glad I tried it out.
