Lucky to be in Oxnard and eat here again. Delicious food for sure. I love their onion rings and the crispy chicken sandwich. The service was great. Greeted with a warm hello even with the masks they were happy to see us. Also will mention that while in there some guy came in to complain about something he had bought and was not fond of. He was not yelling but kept going on and on and the supervisor on duty handled the whole thing with dignity and listened to this guy and got him handled. With every thumping on right now it is amazing how many of these front line workers keep their cool and carry on. Their management should be proud of these folks. read more

This place is excellent. The food is super fresh, staff very friendly, plenty of parking and fair amount of interior seating. Prices are very reasonable. On this trip only ordered two items. The Mushroom Burger, which was really tasty. The meat is the star on this, cooked perfectly, and the veggies complimented it well. The Bistro Chicken Sandwich, which of the two, was the better choice. Having been the first time here my observations while waiting for the to-go order to be filled was that the fries looked excellent, and the Shakes appeared to be amazing. This is most definitely a go to place, not as iconic as In-n-Out or as mainstream as the Habit or Five Guys. If I lived close to here could see coming here more than I should. A good burger is hard and I mean hard to find. Thank heavens I randomly found this joint while cruising out to Ventura to go visit the Channel Islands National Park Visitor Center for the munchkin. From the outside this place looks like any other fake burger hellhole that you can name. From the outside this place smells like teen spirit... errr Nirvana ;) The service is typical. The burgers are absolutely top notch. The Onion Rings suck (I think they are frozen serv pro kinda crap). The pickles are super stingy but delicious and thick (only 2 for a full size burger). Soda, Beer, Shakes, etc ready for your dietary delight. We sat outside, enjoyed our grub, ruminated over the crappy ORs and were awestruck by the exceedingly awesome burger. Seriously full leaf lettuce (none of that annoying shred). Wonderful cheese. A price that wont make the bank broke. Hell even Wimpy wont have to pay Tuesday for a burger today!!! I am not sure where they found the crack for their burgers, but I wanna drive way out here from near Pasadena just for another nibble at this tender, juicy, wondrous thing that they have dubbed a burger. This place is pretty good. I am not sure it is worth the hype that everyone was telling me about before I visited, but I would return. I got the Hook Burger, onion rings and a drink to go. I ordered and then sat for what seemed like 3-4 minutes and my food was ready to go. Burger was good. Not great, nothing to write home to mom about, but good. Definitely better than Burger King or Jack In The Box or something along those lines. Onion rings were awesome (get some ranch for them). And the drink was... well it was a drink. I was going to give it three stars for "A-OK" but then I remembered the customer service. The customer service was FANTASTIC! I was greeted right when I walked and and all the employees seemed to be enjoying themselves and were smiling and were all so polite and efficient in dealing with the customers. I stop by, just to grab something quick when I don't feel like cooking, and not only is everything tasty, (I've had salads, to burgers, to veggie burgers) but the service always goes above and beyond. Which is hard for a fast/ casual place. They open the door for us, NEVER mess up our order and do it all with a smile. The restaurant is always clean and tidy. Passed by there many times but had never gone in. Went there with some friends who knew the place and I was totally shocked. First shock was that it's related to the Habit. Talk about service! This was the first time I came to this restaurant and as soon as we were approaching the door, an employee opened the door for us, greeted us with a smile and offered a menu. We ordered, sat down and had our food delivered to our table. Employees check up on tables consistently and are all very friendly. The service here is something that is no longer seen in many restaurants. Not only that, but the food is really good too! Everything was perfect. Found this spot on Yelp figured I would give it a shot since we do not have this place in Bakersfield. Arrived close to noon on a Saturday there were a few people seated when we arrived. Your given a menu when you walk in the door to choose what you would like before being seated. There were 4 us and we all ordered something different Hickory, Turkey and Mushroom burgers and a Chicken Caesar salad 2 orders of fries and 4 drinks. Everything was delicious and fresh tasting, fries were hot crispy and delicious with refills offered on the drinks. The service was really friendly and fast, and the prices were decent. We got Hook burgers with fries and sweet potato fries - burgers came out really juicy and hot! I was really impressed with the thickness and quality of the patties. The fries were good too and the sweet potato fries had an interesting salty sweet topping. As another review pointed out, Oxnard is a generic town, nestled between more interesting ones. I live here and found that statement sad but true. Strip malls are the norm, as are chain restaurants and fast food. When you're in the mood for a *good* burger -- something several notches above Carl's Jr -- your options are few and far (very far) between. While out running errands yesterday, the hubs and I were hankering for a good burger. Unfortunately, we weren't close to the one place we'd found near our neighborhood that serves outstanding burgers (Pirate's Bar & Restaurant near Channel Islands Harbor, FYI). Yelp helped us find Hook Burger, which we'd never heard of before, but the four-star rating gave us hope. All I can says is, "How does this place only have 4 stars while Carl's Jr has 3.5?!" Hook Burger is nowhere in the vicinity of the neighborhood where Carl, Jack, and Wendy live. These are thick, hand-formed patties, laid on a bed of full-leaf (NO STEM) lettuce, juicy tomato and two thick, delicious slices of gourmet dill. The bun is soft brioche and toasted to perfection - lightly crunchy surface (not enough to cut your mouth), while the rest is soft. I ordered the Mushroom burger, but had them leave off the sour cream (?!) and switched from jack to cheddar. A generous helping of fresh (not processed) bacon bits smothered the whole thing. A little mayo & mustard and this burger was one of the best I've had in years! My husband's eyes rolled back in his head with the first bite of his Hickory burger. The fries were fresh-cut and delicious. I'm not sure what the seasoning is -- it's not overly salty, but there's still a good flavor to them all on their own. Add a little ranch for dipping and Bob's your uncle. My only complaint is that their Oreo shake is NOT an Oreo shake. Oreo shakes are vanilla ice cream with Oreo crumbs. Theirs is a CHOCOLATE Oreo shake. Big difference...HUGE. I'm all for restaurants shaking things up a bit, but at least warn a customer when you veer so far from the norm. I didn't complain b/c my hubby was so happy he didn't have to share with me after all...that and I was waaaay too full already. I should mention that it was a *real* ice cream shake though, not some weird chemically goo poured out of a machine. As others have noted, the service here is amazing. No, beyond amazing. I can't recall the last time I ate at a place where every employee, from the greeter to the cashier to the cooks, had smiles plastered on their faces the entire time we were there. I watched as I ate, and even when they were simply chatting with each other, the staff smiled and laughed constantly -- even the kitchen workers behind the swinging door! That suggests this is not only a great place to eat, but also a great place to work, and that means something to me. I'll happily support that kind of business over one where every worker is sullen and depressed. There's a reasonable amount of seating, including outside tables, but I can see how it would get packed at lunch, especially with the hospital so close by. We were there around 1 and there were only a few two-tops left by the time we'd ordered. The decor is interesting and the entire place has a very hip-yet-accessible-for-fogies vibe. That's a hard balance to strike! The menu is a la carte, but even so, the prices are more than reasonable for what you get. We ordered two burgers, two fries and one shake for $26. Two combos at Jack in the Crack (upgraded to curly fries and shakes) totaled $18. Two burger meals plus one beer and a lemonade at the sit-down Pirates pub mentioned earlier cost about $35. So is Hook Burger the BEST burger I've ever eaten in my life? No way, but in relation to the offerings in my current surroundings, they more than earned this five-star review. Even if it sat next door to the absolute best burger in the world, I'd still give it 4.5 stars.
