And that's really all you need tbh (they have salt for you if you need that extra flavoring btw). The other dishes I saw ppl get were beautifully arranged (I'm talking about the salmon) so if you need to satisfy ur ig tendencies you can do that too. The cashier was really friendly and suggested offerings and combos for each customer in line (there was a long line but it was worth the wait). He even asked how we liked the dish afterwards and if there were anything we'd liked improved. Love this place for so many reasons! 1. Great location! If you're ever at the beach, this place is a couple-minute walk. There's also a cute little jewelry shop next door, art shop across the street and surf shop down the block if you're waiting for a table or for your food. 2. Great food! They do fish and chips (a hit with the kids), fish tacos (which I love) and avocado tacos (the vegetarian husband loves). 3. Good drinks! Aqua fresca (different flavors almost daily), local beers, good wines. We come here pretty often and I don't see that ending anytime soon. read more

Recently found out about this place through a friend and so happy I finally went! You have to get the poke burrito with the hot sauce. FOOD POISONING. I ate here on Wednesday 9/25 with a friend. We both ate the ahi tuna poke and had food poisoning symptoms both that evening and the following day. Vomit, severe stomach cramping, achy body... Worst of all, I emailed the restaurant the following day (since they apparently don't have a phone number you can call), and no one ever acknowledged my email or ever responded. How's that for great customer service? Pay $45 to eat food that makes you vomit and you don't even get an apology. Major bummer since we are both Sunset residents. Hook fish Co. is a nice little restaurant that has fish tacos and burritos, as well as fried fish 'n chips, sandwiches, salads, and drinks. It is also a fresh fish market with high quality fish and transparent sourcing. You even know the name of the boat that caught your fish. We had fish tacos and burrito upgraded to fresh halibut. So so good, the fish was perfectly cooked and the sauce was delicious. I can't wait to try every fish dish they have, and buy some fresh fish to cook myself. Got takeout from here and our order included the following: fish and chips, rockfish burritos, and chips and ceviche. Starting with the positive- the fish and chips were INCREDIBLE! Great flavor and among the best I've tried in San Francisco. I believe the tartar sauce is house-made and had a unique dill flavor. So perfect paired with the fish. Fries were OK but were made better dipped in the tartar sauce. The ceviche was yummy with chunks of mango and shrimp, but definitely not the best I've had. Kind of wish they had octopus but shrimp is still good. The chips (also house made I think) were more delicious than the ceviche if I'm being honest. On the other hand, the burritos were disappointing. The rice was cooked unevenly and had no flavor whatsoever. The fish, while it did have a nice smokiness, was not flavorful. Also wish they put more fish in there... I found the carrot habanero hot sauce interesting, but I still prefer the creamy orange sauce that most taquerias have. Next time if I were craving a seafood burrito/taco I'd go to an actual taqueria, but I'll definitely be back here for the fish and chips. The crab burger had also caught my eye but I was turned away by the $20 price...maybe when we can dine in again I would try it out. read more

The seafood was lit. We drove around for an hour (literally) looking for parking and almost went on a rampage. Then we arrived at Hook Fish and a beacon of hope illuminated our sad existence. The guy at the front was super nice, music was bangin', and the food smelled great. I immediately felt my inner demons fall back into their thousand year slumber. The food was spectacular. My burrito was fresh and the rockfish tasted like Neptune himself hand picked it, cooked it, and blessed it just for me. The guac for my chips was creamy and slightly citric as if a baby lemon angel had kissed it good night and wished it farewell before sending it my way. 15/10 would recommend. read more

It's a decent size and they give a nice hearty scoop of poke so you get some with every bite. It's not the largest place so I wouldn't recommend coming with a group. But I stopped by late in the afternoon and there was only two other people there so if you go at a odd hour it might work for you. The only strange thing was with my to go order they included the smallest slice of lime. It was only enough to squeeze onto two to three bites of my burrito. 3.5 Stars Cool spot and a welcomed addition to the neighborhood. The food resembles a "cool" So-Cal fish taco joint, but with a locally-sourced edge to it. The So-Cal fish taco joints I'm used to would fill me up with 2-3 tacos, at a price of $3-4 per taco. While the food at Hook Fish tastes great, $13 gets you two tacos and leaves you hungry for two more. The burrito, while tasty, didn't fill me up...and I can't think of another burrito I've had in the city for $13. It's as Outer Sunset as it gets (represent!) and it's a tiny little place with bar seating and a communal wooden table. Fish was well battered and tasty and the chips were a little bit on the salty side but it didn't stop me from finishing it all. With tarter sauce and malt vinegar, it ended up in my belly The fish tacos were AMAZING! I was never a fan of grilled fish tacos but this was really really good. The grill on the fish was perfect and of course you can taste how fresh the fish was. Only downside was that two tacos were $13. Great little find. We were visiting SFSU and found this via Yelp (not a lot of options around the school.) The food was terrific - we had a Rockfish burrito bowl, poke burrito and guac and chips. Yes, it's a little pricey, but the quantities on the bowl and burrito were huge, and the fact that the fish was fresh and traceable to the source is super important. Nine bucks for the guac and chips is just too much, the value wasn't there. I've seen a lot of comments about the ordering system. If you read the instructions and follow the instructions it works out. They probably need someone to occasionally walk the line to make sure everyone did what they are supposed to, or put up a sidewalk sign. I would definitely stop by again though! read more
