While in sleepy Hollow Horsefeathers was all the rage. The service is great, the host literally sings while calling your name. We waited about an hour and a half for a party of 2. The menu was not enticing. After waiting an hour and a half we had to order something. We ordered a New England clam chowder and it was the star of the show. The flavors were delightful and it was warm for this cold day. The nachos were good for what they were. And the calamari was very plump but not crunchy. We left almost the whole serving. What did I miss? Our meal was bland and disappointing. My wife and I met a friend here before a performance at the Lyndhurst Castle on a Sunday early evening. The restaurant was quiet but became crowded within 30-45 minutes. The restaurant is very rustic with wood paneling and probably not updated since it opened in 1981. It is very dark and you'll need a light from your phone to view the menu. There is a small lamp at each table if you are lucky. We noticed the menu was humungous which might mean much of their product could be frozen before it is prepared. We began with the zucchini sticks which were no doubt previously frozen and cooked in dirty oil. No taste, bland, and the marinara that came with it was also bland. Portion was large and generous. I ordered a angus burger with mushrooms and sauteed onions while the other two ordered a garden vegetable burger. As a side, we all had the sweet potato fries, which were previously frozen. Again very bland and no seasoning on them. The burgers were nice sized but there was no way the burgers were going to hold up against such a small and weak roll which was probably bought at the supermarket. Within one bite, we all switched to the fork and knife to eat a burger. The service was acceptable but not friendly. We did not get the customary " how are things going." While we were sipping our coffees, the manager came over to us and said " I hate to be rude but we need your table." We had only been there maybe 45 minutes and not two hours. Trust me, her tone was not nice but forceful. So we did not finish our coffee and left. There is a parking lot in the rear of the restaurant and ample parking on the street. Oh I absolutely adore Horsefeathers. I do not go here enough and it's really not that far from me. My family and I hit up Horsefeathers every year in October when we are in the area for the Pumpkin Blaze, or just touring around the Sleepy Hollow area. They serve the most amazing food, and it is delicious every year we go. The menu has something for everyone, so you should be able to find a meal you will enjoy. They also have an extensive beer menu, which always tickles my fancy. Because of covid, this time we sat in their little outdoor seating area. It felt comfortable, and I felt like everyone was far enough apart. The seats aren't THAT comfortable to sit in, but when the food is that good, it really doesn't matter. I get the same thing every time I go just because I don't get it often and it's always perfect - The Gobbler sandwich. It is always stuffed like a Thanksgiving turkey, with tons of turkey, stuffing, and cranberry. I only eat half of the sandwich and take the rest home for another hearty meal. Also, side note, their onion rings look like donuts and they are just so amazing. This time around they served a bread basket that was to die for. Everything in it was delicious - carrot muffins, chocolate chip muffins, a cinnamon bread, regular bread, everything! It was a nice way to keep the kids quiet and enjoy something little to munch on while we were waiting for our food. The only thing - double check when they open. All website info said they opened at 11:30am, but when we arrived the host said they did not open until noon. Getting a bit chilly but sat outside with Covid #'s taking a little spike again. Not the most comfortable table and chairs but the food is so good that I would sit on the floor if I had to!! We were 4. Starters were the potato skins with a choice of cheese with or w/o bacon. Not your standard half potato skin. Thin Slices of deliciously crunchy cheesy skins. The other starter was garlic bread but served like focaccia. Amazing. Adorable cosmo with the left over in the shaker kept on the table Burgers and a turkey burger was the favorite of the other 3. Very nice sides to choose from. I had the broadway dip melt wedge which was (lucky for me) rare roast beef with sautéed onion and cheese with the au jus dip. To die for. I took half home and enjoyed it tremendously the next day. I always leave room for desert but sorry to say the rice pudding was disappointing. I will say that the seating towards the door by the bar is a bit cramped though. Maybe the booths would be good for one person but it's kind of tough for two or more. The shepherd's pie I had was delicious but I hate to say that it didn't sit comfortably with me afterwards. The people I was with had some seasonal drinks which they loved! I went on a day trip to Sleepy Hollow with a group of friends last October and our first stop was lunch at the iconic Horsefeathers in Tarrytown, NY. Prior to our arrival, we learned they didn't take reservations. We were planning to get there shortly after they opened, but were unsure how busy they'd be. When we arrived the line looked long, but it was deceiving! It moved pretty efficiently and our party of ten was able to be sat within about 20 minutes of when we got there. I loved how festive the decorations were for Halloween and also the historical aspects they incorporated into the restaurant! Unfortunately I didn't catch our server's name, but they were excellent. Very transparent about wait times for food and came around multiple times to fill up our drinks and ask how we were doing. At the time we went (we were sat around noon), we could choose from their standard or their brunch menu. We were given complimentary muffin-like pieces of bread. For my main course, I went with one of my brunch favorites: eggs Benedict with a side of sweet potato hash browns, which was basically a sweet potato mashed up. The Benedict was delicious and the sweet potato hash browns were good, but nothing special. One of my English muffins was burnt, but otherwise the taste of everything was delicious! On this day there was a 3 hour wait, which was fine until we noticed the hostess was skipping us after saying we were next. Anyway we were finally able to get a seat outside so we were about to enjoy the parade with our food. The inside is dark and cozy but I enjoyed the outside seating. We had fried calamari to start.
