Wifi is inconsistent. The coffee is what you'd expect from a local chain - and I love the macarons. Unfortunately, if the wifi is out, I've lost 95% of my reason for being there - to get out the house and change my environment for work. It's not a terribly big deal, but when I expressed that the Wifi isn't working, I felt like they didn't care. I imagine that they're so used to wifi problems, that it's an annoying thing to deal with. It just doesn't help with the fact that I've just paid $7 to have some place to work just to realize that I'll have to go somewhere else. read more

And to my amaze, the this new spot is very nice looking, and well designed...it's set up for everyone to have a view of the Baristas as they make your coffee. And don't let me forget, the coffee...it's the BOMB!!! This spot makes an awesome Americano...it's a simple coffee drink that most tend to screw up due to the poor quality of coffee beans, and lack of focus. My only complaint is I have yet to find a single outlet inside... Great coffee spot with excellent service!! My boyfriend and I were in the area and I was in need of an afternoon pick me upper. We walked in and were immediately greeted by the friendly staff. I ordered an iced chocolate latte with 1% milk and it was delicious. You can definitely tell they use good quality coffee because it was strong and smooth. After tasting and traveling all around the DFW area, I would have to say that Houndstooth is among the best third-wave coffee in the Metroplex. When you are looking for a place to drink high-quality, speciality coffee, it is important to ensure that you are tasting multiple brew methods before you judge the legitimacy of the establishment. THIS PLACE happens to have some excellent pour over, espresso, and drip coffee that would astound even the least-knowledgeable coffee consumer. Overall, the baristas were informed and quite nice. Additionally (and most importantly) the individual and unique flavors of their specialty espresso and their single origin coffees were presented quite well all brew methods. I hesitate to give 5-stars always, but this is close as far as the Metroplex goes. read more

For being such a "hip" area, northeast Oak Cliff is kind of a coffee shop desert. And Houndstooth is a glorious oasis in that desert. Beautiful space. Delicious coffee. The staff is very friendly, and even seems to recognize me despite my only semi-frequent visits. Based on my anecdotal observations, I'm not alone in admiring Houndstooth. The shop always seems to have plenty of customers sitting around, drinking coffee, working, chatting. I rate coffee shops based on the quality of the cold brew and latte and this place gets an A+. 4.0 GPA, well done. The flavor of the beans they use is so on point and they cream the milk juuust right. Service was super fast too, so that's definitely a plus. The interior and exterior are very contemporary and chic! I saw several people sitting around with laptops and small groups of people just hanging out. The noise level from people talking and the coffee machinery on this Saturday afternoon was probably not ideal for studying, but I'm sure with headphones you can get a lot accomplished. While we waited for my coffee, we looked at the gear they have for sale and they had plenty of different tumblers and mugs that were really cute. They even had hydroflasks, which are amazing for keeping things hot/cold for long periods of time. The one that I have is so amazing that I actually burned my tongue 2 hours after putting fresh coffee in it. Note: Parking SUCKS. We walked to this little shopping area from a restaurant we ate at across the street and I was really glad we did because it was jam packed to the point of people waiting in their cars for spots to open up. read more

Awesome spot!! As soon as I walked in I was greeted by two lovely ladies behind the counter. They were both sweet and the one that made my coffee answered all the questions I had. She made me the perfect iced latte with the right amount of sweetness, just like I asked for. The ambiance of this place is also a plus, it has two outdoor sections to sit and high rise tables and bar area to sit indoors. COFFEE FROM THE FUTURE Simply immaculate...that is all I have to say. With a clean, white, neo-futuristic interior complemented by spacious wooden tables and metal outdoor furniture. When you enter this particular Houndstooth, your first impression is to absorb as much visual decor in the form of a polaroid photo. After that, you realize the simple coffee station offers so much transparency into the concocting process. From a spoon of coffee grounds compressed with the aromatics freed from hiding and into a cup, to the final product. All of this happens in front of you, as if one of your friends was making coffee in your dream coffee bar. After you receive your cup of coffee or wine or draft, you can take a seat and admire the vast glass windows. Take in the cool air conditioning while you watch the rest of Dallas melting. Now, was the coffee worth it? The DRINK: Japanese Iced Coffee: SUMMERTIME PICK ME UP TONIC My first question was, "what makes this iced coffee, Japanese iced coffee?" I learned that there is a methodology to this involving a Chemax coffeemaker, a special flask used to remove natural oils from the coffee to make a lighter and cleaner coffee. Hot water is used to brew the coffee, which is received in the flask containing ice. The result is a pour-over iced coffee that is light and bright without many of the bitter accents that leave an undesirable aftertaste. Cream is not added, which makes this drink light, carefree, and without any unneeded calories. Overall, I enjoyed the clean and pure flavor of the coffee, but wish there was a stronger and more impressionable coffee flavor (-1 star). This drink represents summer in its whole: the coolness of the ice, sharp highs of coffee happiness, and slight bittersweetness signaling the end of summer. The VERDICT: SUMMERTIME NEOCLASSIC COFFEE CONCOCTIONS You can call Houndstooth anything from a modern bar to a breath of fresh air, but all I know is that it is a splendid coffee shop that is visually and tastefully refreshing. This place has the perfect atmosphere if you need a place to study or even unwind. It was busy around mid day Saturday but there is plenty of seating to choose from including by the bar. Although when I went I sat outside in the covered patio, only issue being there isn't many outlets so make sure your laptop is all charged up if you want to avoid amy hassle. The drinks are on par with other shops as far as price goes. The cold brew is amazing, and I would definitely recommend it. I fell in love with the iced Kenyan blend made in the Japanese style. I wasn't sure whether I would like it since many coffees are either too bitter for me and my stomach tends to hurt. I had had no sleep in almost two days so I took the risk with an iced coffee. I prepared myself by grabbing three cane sugar packets but did not need them at all. The first sip was strong but then it was smooth. My stomach did not hurt. I finished it and wanted to go get more. I'm definitely coming back. The last time I came here, I tried their coconut lime donut, their vanilla latte, and their two iced teas. I loved the donut and I'm definitely going to pair it with the iced coffee next time. I do wish there were plugs for the laptop as I only saw USB plugs but it's okay. I usually go in with a charged laptop. read more

Think the old houndstooth but better.... Environment is spacious, calming, and much brighter than the lower greenville location. It seems to be more busy and more loud than the old location but still a good environment to work. The coffee is delicious as always; I recommend the japanese iced coffee. This place has a cool concept with the combination coffee bar/regular bar with beers on tap. I picked this place as an alternative to Starbucks in order to meet a friend but found it to be the typical upscale, douchey Dallas establishment. The serving sizes are small and it's a bit on the pricey side. And, with tables and a bar, you would think they would have coasters. I did not see one coaster on the bar...Other than that, the barista was knowledgeable and seemed to be pleasant enough. read more
