Excellent from start to finish. Everyone, from the hostess and waitstaff to our server, Babis, and even the owner, was warm, welcoming, and genuinely hospitable. Babis was fantastic: personable, fun, attentive, and his recommendations were spot on. The meal was outstanding. The tender baby calamari was delicious, the pita bread was unbelievably light and cloud-like, and paired perfectly with the authentic tzatziki. Our short ribs and halibut were both exceptional. They also have a wonderful selection of creative non-alcoholic cocktails (pictured), and even the signature House of Stefas ice cubes were a fun detail. We finished with an espresso and cappuccino.. the perfect ending. Another fun surprise: the imported swan faucets in the restrooms. They're a rare and memorable touch. House of Stefas is what happens when someone builds the restaurant you didn't know you were looking for your whole life and puts it on a quiet street where you almost walk right past it. There are multiple rooms. Every single one of them is designed to make you feel like you've been on a guest list this whole time and nobody told you. A written description won't capture it. I'm trying right now and I'm failing. You just have to go. We sat at the bar. The bar looks like the bar in The Shining if the Overlook Hotel had been run by people who actually wanted you to enjoy yourself and not get murdered. The staff are proud of the place and you can feel it, that specific warmth of people who know they're working somewhere worth working. Service like that can't be trained. You either care or you don't. These people care. The food is spectacular. The drinks are better than the food. I'm going to let that sit there because the food is spectacular. I'm not here to tell anyone how to live their life, but bringing your kids to House of Stefas is like using a Lamborghini to pick up mulch. You can do it. It's a free country. But this is a place you take someone when you want them to fall in love with you. This is the restaurant equivalent of a third date where everything goes right. I saw families dining here with children who would be happy with chicken fingers. I don't understand it. House of Stefas is doing things to my palate that I didn't think were possible in the Hudson Valley. Five stars. We waited for years to see this vacant building become a great restaurant and it finally happened. The decor is stunning and the food is equally impressive. Large entrees make for sharing and hospitable friendly handsome waiters made for the perfect afternoon. My only suggestion is to have a more casual waitstaff option to the too heavy for summer jackets. Those poor guys looked like they were dying. read more

Such a great date night restaurant! The decor was so stylish and the food was fantastic including the scallop crudo, braised octopus, pastichio and fisherman's stew. The waitstaff was very attentive and gave us good recommendations throughout our meal. We ended with dessert fried dough balls and baklava which were both delicious! ORIGIN: After years of anticipation, the House of Stefas opened in early June 2025. "House" is in reference to the restaurant being located in a former home and being home-like, while Stefas refers to the family name of the two co-owners and brothers who had envisioned it -- John and Paul Stefanopoulos. LOCATION: The restaurant is located on Franklin Avenue. CONCEPT: The co-owners describe the restaurant cuisine as "freestyle Greek". It is a mix of family recipes and their international dining experiences. AMBIANCE: The interior of the building (previously Aurelia restaurant) was completely gutted and reimagined. The design evokes both a sense of surprise and recognition that the two brothers devoted much thought and effort into making the restaurant a special experience for guests. There are many different seating areas, each with comfortable upholstered seats. Together, the ambiance suggests a supper club -- which makes sense as that aligns with the brothers' experience and vision for this location. FOOD: The menu includes many traditional Greek mezze and plates, but also opportunity for culinary splurges and adventures through intriguing options called "Let the Gods Decide" and "Bounty for the Aristocracy". Can't miss the Portokalopita -- an orange-infused sheet cake topped with vanilla bean ice cream and draped in tahini. BEVERAGES: Creative cocktails include the Oracle and Versace 38. Great place for special occasion. Great service, fancy atmosphere, retro bar, and delicious food. We came here to celebrate my birthday and it did not disappoint. The servers were attentive, drinks were delicious, and the food were delicious. Be ready to spend some $$ for a night out tho, the portion is not big so you will definitely need to have an appetizer or two before your main dish. We had an order of calamari, which was delicious but small and then our main dishes - halibut and duck speghetti. Everything was cooked to perfection but of course the portion was small. We ended up getting a lamb flatbread to fill out belly. But unfortunately the lamb flatbread was not as good as the other dishes as we had ... I was expecting slices of lamb but it was ground lamb on top of the flatbread. It was smaller than the server had described but it was enough for us to be full. If you love seafood with upscale Greek flair, this is easily your best option between Albany and White Plains. Their galaktoboureko ranks in my top 5 ever, it was not overly sweet and with perfect texture. The fluke crudo and wagyu pistachio were also standouts. However, they had some clear misses tonight. The lamb and pepper flatbread was bland and had the texture of pate on pita. The prawn ouzo was poorly thought out. If you're going to serve prawns with heads on, those heads should be cooked well enough to be edible. Otherwise you're left with tomato ouzo soup filled with floating heads, and at $26 for two prawns, it feels like highway robber. Side note: you might need a cryptographer to decipher the menu. It's oddly busy in a way that's both amusing and frustrating. Still, the restaurant is beautiful, with an excellent wine list, and our waiter was thoughtful and engaging. We'll definitely return for another round and another toast. read more

This place is beautiful! You enter into a patio area with sunlight and white everywhere. Perfect for a drink (unless you prefer something cool, in which case you have the inside.) A lot of the thought was put into the design because it's beautiful. Even the restroom, omg the sink was a duck with handle wings! The wallpaper was full of lions. A small gold cabinet had a book on Greece! The food was fantastic. The onions on the octopus appetizer is part of the sauce, but the sauce can go on the side. Fresh and well cooked. The lobster roll was amazing, although maybe fewer sesame seeds on the bun. The side of potatoes well fried with a fluffy inside. Oh, and dessert tahini over ice cream with orange cake was such a good bite. The service brought Phillip, the alligator water pitcher who fills up your glass. There's was never a prolonged period without water. The Coke also came in small glass bottles with sugar. Very classy! This is definitely worth the street parking. read more

When you are short staff you need to close sections of a restaurant in order to give better serves and minimize staff running all over. When the restaurant has a strict reservation policy you would expect far better service. Drinks were not served to us until 6:55 and mind you we still did not order any apps or mains. When our mains came out; we were only asked how they were when we were finished--and we do not eat fast. Almost felt invisible. There is a way to make guest feel appreciated and valued even when you are short staff. I know it's a new spot. Just my unsolicited advice. Hope to see improvement. read more

I ate there last Sunday on my way back from kaaterskill falls terrible disappointment we decided to eat outside, but the flies got to my frozen block of fish before I could eat it way overpriced very small menu not prepared for outdoor eating because of all the various flies /mosquitoes flying around I sent the dish back lost my appetite I received my check with the charge for the frozen fish I had to ask them to remove it.
