I was in Kanab for 1 night to meet family and we decided to eat here and due to Covid options were limited. This place is not cheap but the food and service were good. I enjoyed the food and the portions were large. You have no excuse to leave here hungry. We waited about 5-10 Minutes for a table for our large group. If I happen to go through Kanab again I will likely stop in here again. read more

If you are visiting Kanab, Bryce & Zion this is a MUST stop and eat spot! In our tour of the National Parks we made it a point to get here twice! The soup of the day is a must add to every meal. Skip the standard side salad and go for the homemade rolls & soup. This place is comfort food done right. We enjoyed the chicken fried steak, steak bits, French dip and Hot Roast Beef on our stops. We stumbled into a very crowded Houston's after visiting two other full restaurants. After waiting for 30 minutes, however, we were seated and given fresh hot rolls which were very needed after a long day. I was worried the food would be subpar to be completely honest but Houston's was 10/10. Everyone in my party loved our meals- the grilled chicken with green chiles was delicious. Very dineresque and an obvious local place. I had a French dip with the cowboy beans. If you order anything, get the cowboy beans as a side! They were very good! A good blend of sweet and smokey! We were planning on going somewhere else, but it was closed. We stumble on this place when searching on the internet. And we were very happy we did. Big portions, good food, tummy warmers. It is right on the road (though Yelp shows on the left but it's on the right if you drive into Page) with very cool interior. The waitress was were nice and informative. Pretty meh and I think I got sick from the seafood. I think that if you were a meat eater, it'd be better. The service was ok -- though they were busy that night and seated us in the "addition" where it was pretty chilly. If you're someone who is concerned about Covid safety, this may not be the place for you. It was pretty empty when we arrived but as more people came in there was no effort to space people out. None of the staff were wearing masks that we could see and most patrons didn't either when they were coming or going (obviously not at all while they're eating of course, haha). I had the chicken quesadillas which were tasty but very soggy. My husband had the "last slice" of prime rib and I believed them because it was over cooked and looked like it had been sitting there all day. Took quite a while to get our check when we were done, and by that point I couldn't wait to get going. Never wrote a review before. Who would and why? Not me and never needed much reason to or not. However I moved to this little town from Orange County CA 25 years ago and so much has changed the same that I thought maybe we could speak, you and I. We are not who we used to be today and neither is Houston's. No one is. It used be the standby of every Kanab citizen for over-easy wham bams with waffles and syrup but that changed some years ago and they don't open until 11 now. Houston's would just have sort of died to me were it not for chicken fried steak in peppered gravy, from lunchtime on. Another thing about Houston's was their Friday and Saturday night prime rib dinner which was awful. STG it was the most bland beef one could ever endure. Nevertheless wife and I had this humongous urge for beef that we gave it another try tonight and ordered to-go after making sure we had enough A1 at home for resuscitation. Now this is just crazy what happened. When we got it home the thick cut was "tender" and flavorful with a rock salt garlic crust infused with rosemary. We almost died with delight when we recognized we did not have to drive to Vegas in the dark again. We found our home 25 years ago and they found us tonight. Kanabyte forever if you open for breakfast again becasue I guarantee you there are investors lined up to offer that in this town. I'll likely never pass thru Kanab again, so I'm almost sad that I had the best biscuits and gravy ever in this town. To be fair I've only had biscuits and gravy a couple times, but this blew those away. I got the sausage skillet - slightly spicy sausage patties cut up and served over hash browns w 2 fluffy biscuits smothered with rich delicious sausage gravy and topped with eggs (I opted for scrambled). Not my normal breakfast but hey I'm on vacation. Everybody had to have a taste, then another. It was that good. I didn't try anyone else's food but they said the pancakes were exceptional as well as the breakfast sandwich with I think was ham, eggs, tomato and green chilis. Prices for food were not bad, but nearly $3 for coffee seemed excessive for this place. Which by the way was so awesomely retro and cowboy themed you just had to love it. Based on the bad reviews, I wouldn't have chosen this place, but so glad the outside appealed to my friends mom or I never would've discovered this gem. I had an older lady waitress, didn't catch a name but she was friendly and kept topping off our coffee. Nothing special, but nothing bad either. One of the reviews mentioned they may be racist and we were the only non whites there, but our table of 3 Asians had no issues. Who knows if they talked smack after we left, and honestly who cares. IF I ever end up in this random town again I'd definitely hit Houston's one more time. read more

Meh..was sat after waiting over 15 minutes. Waited & waited again for someone came to take our order. Got the "famous chicken fried steak" and bacon cheeseburger., waitress took our order & drink order. Drinks came out 10+ minutes later. Food took forever! It came out cold, not warm, cold!! Must have been sitting under warming light for a while & it wasn't turned on. Gravy on chicken fried steak was like jelly it was gross. Burger was thin patty & processed slice of unmelted cheese. Never came to check on us or refill drinks or ask how food was, so just ate what we could. Disappointed to say the least. Came out for Kanab Western Legends & should've eaten at one of the food trucks. 33.+ tip. Never again! read more

We were lucky to quickly snag a table as the restaurant filled up as soon as we sat down. Servers are extremely friendly and attentive. They have a variety of local beers available by the can. I had the chicken fried steak with mash potatoes and Mac and cheese. (Yep carb overload but after hiking in Zion that day I felt I deserved it) the chicken fried steak was well seasoned and the gravy was good. Mac and cheese was amazing!!! My boyfriend had the beef nachos. Taco meat was delish and the portion was great. Highly recommend a stop in! read more

Huge portions, yummy country style breakfast! We stopped in during a trip to Zion/Bryce/Antelope Canyon and were happy to find a restaurant that served breakfast that felt home cooked. For the price ($7-10/plate), you get a TON of food and will leave super full and ready for a day of hiking. I got the sausage, eggs, hash browns, and pancakes platter. The sausage seemed to be house made and not one of those frozen patties that are bought in bulk, and the pancakes were fluffy and buttery. My husband got the Cowboy breakfast which was a little pricier ($10); it came in a skillet and he really enjoyed the sirloin. My mom got one of the omelettes which was also huge and came with toast and hash browns. The service was quick and the staff was friendly. Definitely recommend coming here if you're looking for a big breakfast that will keep you full through a morning of activities! read more

The food here is very bland and flavorless. Their self advertised best dish is chicken fried steak with gravy. It fits the above description. Only thing I can say positively about Houston's is they are open most days which the other restaurants in town are closed at least twice a week. And they have good looking girls working there. This place is has decent food with decent price in the town of kanab. I would come here if I was craving comfort food. The waiter was very friendly and even told me if I ordered faster I could get the lunch prices. She was very helpful with helping me pick what I wanted as well. I ended up trying to Chicken Friend Steak because it was their number one item. I got it with pilaff and mash potatoes. I really enjoyed the potatoes and also the gravy. I am a small asian so I was able to eat half and then take half home. Overall I really enjoyed it and would come back. read more

The veggies were firm, tasted fresh and steamed as advertised. (At home I cook my veggies in the microwave and it makes them a bit mushy and unevenly heated. That is not what I had here.) The perfect breakfast place if you're looking for a real meal in Kanab. Friendly staff, cool decor, and inviting atmosphere. The pancakes were delicious and they have some real good syrup and butter. It should be noted that there is a massive difference between the side pancakes and the main dish pancakes. The main ones are probably three or four times the size of the sides, the latter of which are your average-sized, homemade cakes. Still fluffy and delicious though, but only order 2 pancakes if you can eat a lot of food. Also, it appeared that there was a high school dance that night as well and many were dining at Houston's prior to that dance. First of all....the rolls. OMG, they are fantastic, We purchased additional ones to go and they were just as good the next day. I got the BLT with a baked potato and they were both excellent. My partner got the "famous chicken fried steak" with mashed potatoes and they were also delicious. The portions were so big that both of us took home about half to eat the next day. The service was good even though they were so slammed and the price were reasonable. You must stop in here if you're in the area. read more
