This park has a decent sized big dog side and a smallish, little dog side. Nicely treed, 50/50 grass and dirt. The picnic table is in need of replacement. My issue is no dog poop bags, there is a dispenser on the big dog side that appears to have been abandoned and nothing on the small dog side. I always carry, so no issues for me, but c'mon, keeping bags stocked is not a budget issue. read more

The dog park is a set of two fenced areas within the very large (and on-leash dog friendly) Howe Community Park. The fenced in areas are fairly small BUT there is lots of water, it's never too crowded, and the grass and overall health of park is kept up well. read more

ALL GOOD! My pitty loves it here. All the dogs love him, after they find out that he's not at all mean despite looking like it. My puppy is ten months old, but he's 55 pounds already and quite muscular. So other dogs interact with him like a dog. But he's still quite a puppy, and that throws people and other dogs off sometimes. All he wants to do is wrestle, and when dogs smell that puppy on him, they love it. My dog and I have been here twice, and he's had a good time both times. The first time, though, wasn't too enjoyable for me. Owners really need to keep an eye on their dogs. The dogs were pooping and smearing that stuff all over the grass. Yuck. There were also like 10 dogs there the first time, and it was close to chaos. The second time we went, there were fewer dogs (maybe 4 total at one time), and the owners kept track of their doggies. Whew. My dog had fun playing and running around. The fenced in area isn't quite as large as I'm used to, but it works. I think the size is manageable enough. A few large trees around, so that's good. There is a bag dispenser, but it's always empty. Tsk tsk. I also wish the drinking/water area was cleaner. read more

This park sucks. Very little grass and uppity people who look at you if you are not a regular. Coming from the Bay Area, this park is sorely in need of grass, small agility structure, and a place to sit and watch your dogs. My review may seem a little bias... We recently moved to the Arden area and found this dog park for our dog. Almost all the dogs and people we've met here have been extremely nice and welcoming. It is a little dry at times, which has caused our dog to skin his pads and cause small owies, but it happens sometimes. What has caused us to stop going is a dog attack. This dog park almost always has pit bulls, my boyfriend and I have absolutely no problem with pit bulls, we've even considered getting one. But one day we arrived and a pit had attacked a dog, and we though they were leaving so we entered anyways. About 20 minutes later the owner let her pit back into the park when her dog then severely attacked our dog. In the end our dog had to have an expensive surgery and 2 1/2 weeks recovery. We have not been back since because we are scared as to how our dog will react to the place and the many number of pit bulls there. This was an unfortunate situation and I hope it doesn't happen to anyone else. read more

It's a ok dog park, like most they have a area for small dogs, and a area for big dogs. I however dislike the low fences, and lack of trees. It's also located near a very busy road, HOWE AVENUE. The park is a good size, and yes it may be good for people in that area, but it's not my prefered choice of dog parks. read more

We've taken our puppy here many times to burn off excess energy. The park itself is average size, with double entrance gates, a few benches and a picnic table. It also has a few trees to provide lots of shade. It's mostly grass, but there are large patches of dirt in the middle that kick up a lot of dust in dry weather and get muddy and swampy in wet weather. Nothing quite as nice as having to drive home with a complete mudball pup! There are about 3-5 dogs here on average, whenever we've gone. Occasionally on summer weeknights a large crowd will gather, and we'll get 8-12 dogs. Even then, there's enough room, and the dogs tend to group themselves based on energy levels, but it does get a little crazy. Keep your knees slightly bent! I've heard war stories from several dog owners about dog fights, specifically with owners with intact pitbulls that don't watch their dogs, but I haven't experienced this. However, there are definitely a lot of pitbulls that come to this park, and some of them do seem to play kind of rough. Our puppy likes the rough play, though, so it's not a big deal for us. And most of the "regulars" are fun dogs and owners who care a lot and are very watchful and mindful of other dogs and their owners. read more

As the owner of a young German Shepherd this place has been saving my but. I can throw a ball all day long in my backyard but it doesn't compare to letting her play with the dogs here for a half hour. Everyone has been super friendly. There is seating in the shade and the ground is covered in crushed stone and grass. There's a water fountain but sometimes the water bowl gos missing. There are two different and separate fenced off areas one bigger than the other. Usually the smaller dogs are hanging out in the smaller one which is cool so that the bigger dogs don't bully them to much. I haven't had any issues with the pit bulls that some of the others seem to but my dog isn't very alpha and I can never seem to tell which dogs she's going to like and which ones she doesn't. Let your dog off its leash and sit back and let them play. read more

Probably one of the worst dog parks I've ever been to. With as huge as this park is, you'd think they'd have dedicated a larger area to the dogs. It's a very narrow strip with very minimal seating, especially in the heat. There are groups of "regulars" who don't appear to be very friendly. I went here on a Friday around 10am with my puppy, and I agree with many of the previous reviews. Nice that there are two separate areas. But the fences are too short for any medium/large sized dog. The little dog area is probably ~800 sqft max; while the large dog area is roughly ~2,500. I have a medium sized puppy but I know that just because a dog is small it does not mean it doesn't need ample space to run. About the seating... it's a dog park not an amphitheater. I don't really believe you as an owner should be sitting because it makes it harder to watch your dog if you're comfortable. When I walked up to the large dog area there were three owners sitting beside the entry area (the only 3 people in there) and so of course their 3 dogs were all waiting with baited breath for my puppy and I to enter. They said "don't worry they are all friendly just come on inside." I told them I would walk away and return when their dogs left the gate. I went to walk away and all 3 dogs followed us along the fence; that's fine. I let my dog greet them to which two were happy and the third went on full defense (displaying dominance- seemed to be in a continuous state of it) and growled and barked at my dog; three separate times. Needless to say I took my dog to the small side as I didn't want my puppy to have a negative experience. Then the owners of the two behaved dogs left. The owner of the dog that wanted to pick fights opened the gate between the two sides and let his dog into the area with mine and didn't ask me about it first. Note: I put my large dog in the small area ( no one was in there and I was willing to leave had someone come) and clearly had chosen not to put my dog in with the others. His dog runs up to my puppy and starts being "not nice" and obviously rude straight away. To which the guy responds, don't worry he's like this is the beginning but then he's nice. I do not give a flying turkey if he becomes nice if he isn't nice initially. I do not plan to come back to this dog park because while I could choose to leave if I saw that owner/dog again... I do not appreciate that the fence height is so low; ~3.5 feet I think. read more

Went here last Sunday right before the big rain hit. There were a couple of really nice people with two shepherd mixes. While we were there, a couple of smaller dogs and a couple Huskies showed up! Lupine and Lucy had so much fun getting all their sniffing in. There was a big stainless steel mixing bowl for water. Unfortunately someone has stolen all the pooper scoopers so you have to bring your own bags. Lupine and Lucy had so much fun getting all their sniffing in. I assume the dogs liked it. Found this park on yelp while in the area. The only thing I like about this dog park is the fact that it has separate areas for the small dogs and the larger dogs. It isn't as "kept" as other parks I've been too.The small dog side is pretty small with one table under the shade. However, the large dog side has plenty of room for exercise. Lots of dog poop everywhere. No bags to pick up poop. So, as you can imagine, it smells like s#!t and attracts lots of nasty dirty flies. Won't be back! read more

This is where my rat terrier likes to come so she can run free, poo and pee where she wants and sniff a lot of dog butts. There are some shade trees, benches and a mostly friendly crowd - owners and pooches alike. It can be a drag in the heat, but if you come in the morning it isn't so bad. It can also be a little soggy on wet days, so maybe bring an old rag to wipe down muddy paws before bringing them home. It has a big drinking bowl with water that drips in to keep it full. There is a bag of bags that everyone adds to and takes from. There are also some pooper scoopers and waste cans - so no excuse for leaving a mess!! read more

This park is great depending when you go in the day and what owners are there. My dogs were attacked by a pitbull named junior in the morning. his woner is an old man who refuses to take responsibility for his dog. this dog has been attacking dogs for over 3 years and there have been 9 verified attacks from this dog. i refuse to go in when this man is there and yes i have caused a scene to try and get people to realize and no let him in the park. the police have been called multiple times and i have photos and vet records from the attacks. if anyone would like to file a lawsuit i will jump on board:) besides him everyone in the morning crew is great! read more

This is a nice little park! Has all the basic ammenities you will need and some really good shade but I decided to take a couple stars off because of the sleeping bums throughout the park. Park is divided into 2 sides- a large side for dogs in general, and a small side for small and timid dogs. The small side has no water or water bowls and is usually devoid of activity. This side is very small if you want your dog to run around. Most of the time we have gone to the larger side for active running and socialization. Many of the owners who come to the dog park are nice, but often hands off. They sit on the benches and talk on their phones instead of keeping an eye on their respective pets. Have ran into more mobbing behavior at the gate than in any other dog park. Have witnessed a few dog fights here that would have been prevented by owners paying attention and controlling their dogs. read more

There is seating in the shade.Outside of the dog park fenced area its a huge park so there are lots of places to walk and a lake to walk around. Great park for small to medium dogs. Located in a beautiful green space with nice paths to walk on leash. The off leash dog park has lots of room to run and play. Nice grass and looks well maintained. Unfortunately the fence is really short. The dog park is located next to a busy street and surrounded by squirrels and other fun things to chase. My dog could easily jump the fence, leading to certain death, and so I was not able to let him off his leash. read more

I am new to the area and recently adopted a Beagle mix. He is neutered and friendly. I came to this park hoping that he could run around in the grass. This park only has ONE bench that is in the shade. There aren't that many trees and altogether there are 3 benches. My dog was playing with another beagle/basset hound and I noticed this Michael Moore look a like come into the dog park with his purebred beagle. He made it known that his dog was a purebred and that he was happy his dog wasn't small like my dog. First off, size doesn't mean anything. Second, DONT BRING A MALE DOG THAT IS NOT NEUTERED INTO THE DOG PARK!!!! My male dog began getting harassed by his dog in which the owner did nothing to stop his dog from showing signs of aggression. So my dog snapped at him and his dog began crying (once again size doesn't matter). I figured that he would take his dog out of the dog park and/or away from my dog but instead he just remained on the phone with his wife talking about how my dog was just like his but smaller since it was a mix. My boyfriend and I were so furious we got our dog and left. We hate the ignorant owners that come over there bringing there dog into the park when they know that they shouldn't due to aggression. The owners are not the most friendliest. Most of them just sit around and ignore you and your dog when they approach them. I'm use to bigger dog parks with friendlier owners rather than owners who choose to bring their dog for bragging rights. read more

There are better dog parks in Sacramento. Most of the time I go out there, all the dog owners sit at the table and smoke cigarettes and don't watch their dogs at all. Many of the regular dogs are overly aggressive and not watched after. It really depends on what time of the day you go. I think the Sutter park downtown is much better though. read more

It's a pretty standard dog park: poop bags, running water, and some grass. But there is poop everywhere, it's right along busy Howe Ave, my dog is almost as tall as the fences, and I was the only one there for a good 45 minutes. I'll go back because it's close and because the other people who showed up were nice and had nice dogs, but not the best park around. read more

This is usually a great park for dogs it has a fenced in area to run and another separate fenced area for smaller dogs or dogs not totally socialized.Only problem I have seen is this old lady brings in her aggressive Pitbull that doesn't like kids.Watch out and don't trust what she says I think she might have dementia or some other mental illness.She says hes gonna be a service dog but he was chasing my 8 yr old when we walked by good thing I left before she took him off the leash not the dogs fault he has not been properly socialized but he is DANGEROUS for kids and he is a big mix dog.Other than that I have countless good experiences their and people are friendly dogs can get hyper at times depending on who is their.Just remember that you know your dog and his limits try and remember that when bringing them so no one gets hurt!!Great place to socialize and let your dog burn off some steam read more
