I was really excited to try Huckleberry for Cajun brunch in Arlington, but unfortunately, it was a letdown. We started with the beignets, which came on top of a compote that tasted canned, and the "beignets" themselves were more like fried pancake bites--not at all what I expected. For entrées, we ordered the crab cake Benedict and the andouille sausage Benedict. Both were missing the Cajun punch I was hoping for--zero seasoning and no depth of flavor. The crab cakes were especially disappointing: instead of fresh, flavorful crab, they tasted overly fishy, more like tuna patties. Even the fried potatoes had no seasoning, and we had to add salt just to make them edible. I really wanted to love this place, but the food didn't live up to the hype. For a Cajun-inspired spot, the seasoning and authenticity just weren't there. Service was great. read more

My wife and I were here on a busy Sunday for brunch. We started with the "beignets", which were absolutely not what you'd expect if you've ever had beignets before. It looked like they were fried Pillsbury crescent rolls or something, but they were doughy and dense with zero flavor. Awful. I ordered Southern Swirl French Toast with bacon, sausage, eggs,, and what were supposed to be fried potatoes. The toast, bacon, and eggs were fine, but the sausage were straight up frozen Jimmy Dean breakfast links and the potatoes were unsalted, boiled, smashed red potatoes. No fry, no seasoning, just bland boiled little nubs of disappointment. Also awful. My wife ordered a shrimp Po' Boy with gumbo. Now, she and I adore Cajun and Creole food and we've had a fair share across the Gulf Coast and Louisiana. This ain't it. The shrimp was just frozen popcorn shrimp with no flavor and there were little fried catfish balls that presumably came frozen from the same distributor. All this on a single leaf of limp lettuce served on a basic sub roll. The worst offender though was the gumbo. It was legit like Campbell's Chunky canned gumbo with a little chicken thrown in. It was acidic, thin, and almost flavorless aside from the salt. Gumbo is a stew, so it should have some thickness and it has to have flavor. This gumbo was offensive to anyone who's even had a sniff of the real thing. If a restaurant is going to try to sell itself on a Louisiana/Cajun gimmick, they can't do it like this. Nothing was close to how it should have been aside from my toast. Include the high prices and you're much better off going to Denny's or better yet Tom's Dinner up Cooper Street. We won't be back. read more

Large groups have priority no matter what order they arrive in "we need to get the big parties out of the way" WTF?? By the time we were seated I didn't even order food because I was over the whole establishment. The food was HORRIBLE. Dennys, Ihop and even McDonald's are all better. My husband's steak and eggs were disgusting. The steak was freezer burn and tasted like it had been marinating in a can for days. He didn't even finish it. The potatoes have zero flavor. They can't make over medium eggs which is not hard when you know how to time them. I regret even giving this place a chance!! The one positive was my daughter's crispy bacon. My other daughter's scrambled eggs were like eating solid water. It's was so weird and gross. read more

I was eating at Babes chicken about a week ago and I saw this place behind it and decided to go try it.Well me and my brother and mom get there and it was crowded.The lady said it was going to be like a 25 to 30 minute wait.So we decided to wait and we went outside.So it wasn't even 15 minutes and we went back in to see how much longer it was going to be and they said they already called my name and we would have to wait back in line which I wasn't happy about.But we decided to go ahead and wait luckily we only had to wait about 5 minutes or so.We finally got seated and as I was looking at the menu it's basically New Orleans type of food.There is food on here that you wouldn't usually see on like a regular breakfast cafe.And they serve their drinks out of mason jars.As I looked at the menu I decided to get the banana foster French toast.It came with the French toast,eggs,fried green tomatoes which I'm not a fan of but they wouldn't let me substitute.It also came with your choice of bacon or sausage.I got the bacon.As far as my food goes it was par.I mean the eggs were good and the bacon was nice and crispy but the French toast lacked flavor and the bread was really think and kind of chewy.And the fried green tomatoes I took a couple of bites and it just isn't for me.Not too mention the food is a little pricey.Most of the plates were over 17 bucks.And the little mason jar with Dr Pepper in it was 4 bucks.Overall I just didn't think the food was worth the price.Would I go back again?Maybe if I lived near the place but we went out of our way to eat here.If you live around here give this place a shot but i wouldn't go out of my way. read more

Call them something else and somebody might enjoy them, but not if you're looking for a New Orleans beignet. So glad my hubby and I were able to finally get over to try Huckleberry's Restaurant today (a Monday). We got there around 11:15A and seeing their menu of such great options made it hard to decide between their breakfast and lunch offers. Hubby went with the grilled Cajun catfish with cajun rice and decided on the chicken/sausage gumbo instead of salad. He gave the two thumps up rating for both -- but I could have easily guessed his rating by the empty plate when he was done. He loved it! As for me, I finally landed on something simple like their seasoned chicken strips with fries and coleslaw. Yum! It comes with their "Huck" BBQ sauce and it was a definite hit -- adding just the perfect amount of sweet/spice to the strips. All was fresh and hot to the table. I'm a huge iced tea fan and was glad to see they kept my glass (served in cute preserve jars) always filled with fresh tea. Thanks! Finally, I want to give a big shout out to both our server, River, (a delightful and attentive server) and also to the manager, Courtney. Courtney was there to greet us at our table and she and River both were great on checking on us throughout our meal. Now that's service. A lot of other menu items sounded pretty spicy, so it sounds like they cater more to clientele with a cajun-oriented palate. We stopped here for breakfast on our way back from a Rangers game. We looked up places for breakfast and a few popped up but we chose this one to stop at and boy was it a great choice! From the time we walked in, the staff was friendly and welcoming. We were seated right away, but it was early. Our waitress, Brenda was awesome! Super cute drinks that come in mason jars with sugar rims, even on the huckleberry lemonade and teas! We chose the French toast and a scramble and both were amazing! We couldn't even finish the scramble because it was such a large serving! We were dying to try the beignets but were so full we couldn't take another bite. We will definitely be back! My husband and I tried Huckleberry's for breakfast this weekend and it was absolutely wonderful! Elizabeth was our server and she definitely set the high standard for customer service and knowledge! She provided so many recommendations and really paid attention to detail to make our experience excellent. The beautiful cobblestone outside and the dark purple logo were welcoming. Walk inside and the environment was welcoming, clean, friendly, and efficient. We can't wait to return and hopefully have Elizabeth as our server again! Tried Huckleberry's for the second time today. First visit was delicious but the skillet breakfast was way too much for one person - good news is that it made four meals for the price of one. Decided to go for something less ambitious today so I ordered biscuits and gravy, bacon, and a Huckleberry muffin. The bacon was the best part - flavorful and perfectly cooked. The muffin had a weird aftertaste and I couldn't eat more than two bites. The gravy had a heavy raw flour taste with one bit of sausage - no depth of flavor at all. Starting with a roux would fix that. The biscuit was passable. The Mississippi skillet from the first visit was far superior in flavor, but it would be nice to have a smaller version available. I saw this place as I was out and about, but have never been here before. Since my daughter was home I asked if she wanted to join me for breakfast. I told her there was a place called Huckleberry's breakfast and lunch I have been wanting to try. As drove in the parking lot was full. We walked in the place was plunb full with customers, and we were promptly greeted, by Ms. Emily, one the hostess. She was very polite, with a very nice smile and welcoming. She lead us to a booth. Although the restaurant was full staff were well organized, the place was neat in appearance and very clean. All staff worked like a well oiled machine,no maddness or chaos when very busy. We also had the privilege of speaking with Ms. Courtney, the Manager of this fine restaurant. Ms. Courtney was polite, very friendly and welcoming. Her attitude and kindness, reflected on her staff who all appeared ready and egear to serve their customers. Our server Mr. AB, was very polite, quick sense humor, friendly and very welcoming. We found out that this was his first day on the job,but he must of had a great training because he didn't miss a beat. He was very efficient and read orders back to ensure that he got our orders correct. He promptly brought water and a cup of coffee. We order the Mardi Gras Beignets for $8.49, to our surprise the beignets were larger than depicted in the menu, they were served nice and hot, the beignets puffy, it came with a custard cream, strawberry sauce, blue berry sauce, and peach sauce. This was so delicious. My daughter ordered the banana Foster platter with candied pecans, side of green fried tomatoes, ham, and two eggs prepared to your specifications, for $17.69, a cup of coffee for $3.99, and I ordered the Pumpkin Spiced Pie platter with 2 pumpkin spiced pie candied pecan pancakes, crispy hash browns, and two eggs cooked to your order, for $17.79. My daughter said her food was very delicious and very tasty my food was so delicious the scrambled eggs were fluffy tasted great, the hash browns were crispy to my liking and the pumpkin spiced pancakes were so tasty. This restaurant restaurant was super busy as customers kept coming and going no table was empty for too long.
