For the past few days I've been eating my way around Rittenhouse Square and the Huda-style smash burger is the first thing I've put in my mouth that made me go "whoa." The balance between the beef patty, tangy sauce, onions, cheese and -drumroll please- those pickled green tomatoes was spot on. I'll admit, usually I'm usually one to turn my nose up at a thicker burger and, while I'd still maintain that this patty was more squished than smashed, the patty to rest of burger ratio was very satisfying. Did I mention those pickled green tomatoes? Prices seemed on the high side for this area but I do think that the ingredient quality mostly justifies it. I'm back to work in the office 3 days a week and have discovered that many of my favorite lunch spots are now closed. Looking to add a new lunch spot to my rotation I tried Huda. It's less than a block away from the office and wasn't there pre-pandemic. My first lunch order was the short rib grilled cheese and the cinnamon bun. The sandwich was a perfectly made grilled cheese. The meat was cooked perfectly, there was the correct cheese to meat ratio, and the bread was the right thickness and had the right crunch of the grill. An awesome sandwich. The cinnamon bun has a mascarpone icing with concord grape. I was wary of the concord grape, but it goes perfectly with the icing! I devoured what was one of the best cinnamon buns I have ever had and licked my fingers clean. I was so happy with my first lunch that I went back the next day. This time I ordered the Smash burger with fries. The burger is smashed and comes on a thick milk bun. I was thinking the meat to bun ratio was way off, but once again Huda knows better than me and I was wrong! The bun is so soft that it goes perfect with the burger. The burger makes up for not being as juicy as thicker burgers by being so well seasoned and good quality meat. And the fries... wow... they are now my new favorite fries in the area since McDonald's is closed. Like everything else they are perfectly cooked and seasoned. Huda is a 5 star lunch destination. It's a bit more expensive than I would like, but for food this good I will be back many times. Service is friendly and although I ordered take out there are tables inside. The chicken sandwich was pretty tasty & actually had a kick to it, but overall I think it was a bit too heavy for me and it was a bit in the dryer side. The cinnamon milk bun was definitely the star of the show in my opinion though!! When I ordered it, it had Concord grape on top which I would never think would go with a cinnamon bun but it tasted amazing! The icing wasn't overly sweet either which I appreciated. Got takeout here and mostly enjoyed it. Food is definitely on the heavier side (although it is a burger joint, so no huge surprise there!). I enjoyed the brisket burger more than the fried chicken, which was a surprise. They have a great horseradish sauce, which was surprising and really refreshing! I believe the Huda sauce has horseradish as well. The fried chicken sandwich was absolutely drenched and dripping with sauce--pretty messy, and definitely contributed to the heaviness of the meal. Fries were well portioned but on the salty side. I'd say food wise a definite alternative to fast food places like shake shack (at similar price point) for more variety than a typical burger place. But there is some fine tuning to do regarding flavors. Got takeout here and service was quick and without issue. I thought it was a little strange that the place was empty at dinner time (although it was a week night). It looked like a LOT of take out and delivery options. If ordering pickup make sure to order through their own website rather than on a third party site, prices are much lower. It was extremely quiet (no other customers) when I went at 6 on a Tuesday. It may be busier at other times. It's certainly a cute interior and a very happening street. Thumbs up in general for the concept, although the menu could use some flavor adjustment. This is one of the best curated menus I've ever seen for a "sandwich shop", but make no mistake- they elevate what it means to be a sandwich shop. I tried several items and I was not disappointed. I'm OBSESSED with the Huda sauce, the fries are beautifully shoestring-style with perfect crunch and a soft inside. Huda? More like hubba hubba. The anticipated grand opening today did not disappoint! Huda's the new sandwich shop in Rittenhouse opened by Abe Fisher's chef. You can tell he spent a lot of time perfecting his artisan breads in quarantine by how amazing the milk bun tasted, soft and a little sweet. The swordfish was tender and flaky and paired super well with a little slaw and kimchi tartar. The shop is simple and chic, with a few tables outside to offer outdoor seating. The sandwiches were made live in the open kitchen and came out surprisingly fast given it's the first day. The burger melted in your mouth along with the cheese and the caramelized onions. The patty had crisp edges, and the entire burger was so juicy, flavorful, and amazing. I really enjoyed the buns on them too as I am a big fan of milk buns. Think of biting into a Shake Shack burger but even better! The spicy chicken sandwich was also delicious too--in it's own way. The chicken was extremely juicy, and the toppings on the sandwich were unique. It was like having a tangy, acidic salad on top of your sandwich. I saw this place forever ago on Yelp and was finally able to grab lunch here. When I arrived in the establishment, it was well decorated and friendly looking. There was a kiosk right at the entrance to place your order, which is great because you don't have to flip through a menu to look at what they have. I sat down at a table and waited. The service was fast and the staff were friendly. This is a good place for parties of 2 or 3, there isn't much seating inside so I don't recommend groups dining in. I ordered the smash burger and milk bun. The smash burger was amazing. The meat was tender and it had perfectly caramelizad onions on it. They were sweet and soft. The sauce was flavorful and they had these lovely pickles on the burger. I have no idea what pickles they use, but they were tangy and complemented the sweet onions and balanced the greasiness from the burger. The milk bun was delicious as well. They don't warm the bun, which I prefer, but I know some people are used to this type of dessert being warmed, so just a warning that you might want to take it to go if you would like it warmed up in the oven/microwave. The final nice touch to this establishment is that they have a sink with soap and paper towels for you to wash your hands, which is much appreciated after eating messy hand food. Man...I pigged out when I recently visited Huda. I have a hard time picking just one item, and their menu is jam packed with so many delicious looking sandwiches, it is nearly impossible to only select one. Both sandwiches had incredible flavor profiles, and were really well sized. Their menu for vegetarians is a little light, but my wife was able to try their maitake mushroom sandwich, which she said matched the energy of my beef and chicken sandwiches. It is very affordable, and if you are lucky, you can find street parking right across the shop. If not, there are a number of spots around these blocks. Oh...and we also got the cinnamon milk bun...just do me a favor, and dont leave without trying this or ordering to take home. Pretty casual vibe here; no need to get dressed up. They do have a few tables inside (2 tops) for smaller groups, and a couple of tables outdoors. I have no idea how this place flew under my radar. The brisket sandwich here is amazing. The meat is perfectly done. The milk bun, their homemade signature bun that tastes a lot like the bread from a Chinese roast pork bun, is pillowy soft and mindblowingly expands/rises when I opened my container.
