last night we had a soccer dinner for my fiance and some of his teammates. one of his teammates suggested HH so off we went. it was my first time there. for a monday night i was very surprised at how packed it was. i ordered a PINK Pearl to start. while it was refreshing and tasty, i wasn't tempted to order a second. we had: apps - -toasted edamame & shishito peppers, garlic, soy and honey {too much sauce for me} -beer battered cauliflower fritters {yum!} -truffle goat cheese mac and shrooms, shiitake, peas, toasted bread crumbs {would def order again!} entrees - {both were amazing but the steak stood out more!} -marinated flat iron steak, garlic & truffle cheese fries -hudson pretzel burger w/ greens dessert - -baked to order oatmeal-cheery cookie w/salted caramel ice cream and crushed pretzel {i would def order again even though i didn't find any pretzel anywhere?} -crispy beer battered twinkie {underwhelming} i would def come back. the customer service was great. the place had a nice vibe and the bonus was that it's really close by.i think the next time i come, i'll def try a few different apps along w/the steak and topped off w/the cookie! hopefully they'll remember pretzels next time! read more

Great atmosphere perfect for date nights. Fantastic food, varied beer selection. Taco Tuesday's are a must go--$1 tacos made fresh and $2 tecates. Beer dinners are very exciting. Hudson House is a really fun neighborhood bar and restaurant. It's very cozy inside and they have a great drink selection for all. The food is also very good and I have never had a complaint with the service. They also have a really good Taco Tuesday. Definitely worth checking out! read more

Met some friends here for drinks on a Friday night. Cute atmosphere it is a cross between The Father's Office and The Other Room. Its not very big inside but has a good mix of small to large tables to suit any type of group. We showed up for happy hour and they have some good deals. They had one beer on tap that was quite good for $2 and 2 for 1 wines. Thats a steal. They have a pretty extensive bottled beer list from Pilsners to Imperial stouts. The food also looks pretty good. We only got some french fries which were thin and crispy and good. I want to go back and try some of their food. Inspecting the fare on the other tables was promising. Looked like some high end pub grub. This is a fun spot to meet friends and have a drink. The one thing they have on the Other Room...actually I hate the other room that place sucks why wont it go out of business??, but the one thing they have on Father's Office is they have a full bar. Sorry...I have to re-review this place. My first experience was fantastic, and my second was super disappointing. Still love the cocktails, but the kitchen needs to be much more careful. Two items were not up to Brooke's usual standards: the buffalo fried chicken and the mac-and-cheese. The mac-and-goat cheese tastes neither like cheese nor mac: the pasta was overcooked and the cheese was more like bland, thick milk than the gooey deliciousness I would expect. Though the buffalo fried chicken's sauce was yummy (and very spicy) and the portion was a nice size, the two pieces came out very differently. One was moist inside, though the breading could have been crispier. The other was burned on the outside and raw...RAW...on the inside. It was so dark in the restaurant that I didn't notice until I took a bite. Needless to say...not a pleasant night once I got home. When we complained to the server, she and the manager seemed to think the issue was more our problem than theirs. They offered a free dessert, but my tummy was already unhappy, so we asked for them to just take the chicken off the bill. They did so...reluctantly. I went here for the first time on a date about a week ago. When walking in I was a little dissapointed because of how dark and noisy it was in the place. Why does it need to be this dark? That would have to be my only complaint. As we stood there waiting for our table I couldn't help but notice the number of extremely attractive women in the place. I tried to be a gentleman and not look, but i have to admit it was a bit tough. We were sat at our table and the waitress was very welcoming. She recommended some food for us and brought us waters while we waited. The noise level made it a little difficult to talk at times, but I guess thats to be expected in a place like this. The lighting made it really tough to read the menu and I felt like an old man shining any bit of light I could find on the menu that was inches from my face trying to read it. The wine selection was pretty good. I got a pino nior and it was tasty. We must have had atleast three different waitress check up on us. It was a little confusing, but I was actually very happy about that because it let me know that they were trying their best to accomodate customers on a busy friday night. I applaud the effort! We got some sort of cheesy salad thing and a flat bread. The food was good, not great, but definitly good for a bar. Overall, the beer and wine selection coupled with the great service will keep me coming back! read more

After reading all the glowing reviews on Yelp, I was excited to finally try this place. The place was packed (aside from being popular, it was also tiny) and super loud. Nevertheless, we put our names on the chalkboard and waited only half an hour - not too bad for a Friday night - before getting a table, having consumed a couple of unmemorable drinks in the meantime (Maui Brewing Co. beer in a can, yes, a can, for hubby and something called a cava cocktail for me). We even managed to catch the end of happy hour. We ordered almost everything off the very limited happy hour menu including kale fritters (which I was excited to try) and edamame/shishito peppers, and we also tried the "famous" pretzel burger. The kale fritters were pretty good, although anything that's deep-fried automatically should be, but nothing stood out to me except for the fact that the edamame and peppers were overly greasy and salty. The much-hyped pretzel burger was average (no better than The Counter) and the garlic truffle cheese fries were clumpy and soggy. We decided to skip dessert, something that we almost never do. It was one of the cheaper happy hours we've been to in the area, but I'd gladly pay a few more bucks for better food elsewhere. read more

Not family/kid friendly We brought our one year old twins there. I had called before we went to make a reservation because there were 6 adults and 2 high chairs. The person on the phone said they would set aside the table. When we got there we were informed they only had one high chair in the entire restaurant. Thank god I called because there was another table with a baby and a toddler and they were high chair less while we at least had one. However, this meant one of us had a baby in our lap the entire time. Not Ideal. Also, I saw they had potato pancakes on the menu - I thought oh that sounds like something the babies can eat. I ASKED the waitress if it would be ok for them to eat - is it bland? Yes they could eat it - was her response. We got it.. I tasted it and it had SOOOO much pepper in it that it was WAY too spicy for them to eat. I guess I shouldn't have brought my kids there, but we went at 5, there were 3 other tables with kids at it so I think many people get the impression you could bring kids.... Oh and the waitress didn't seem to know the food on the menu. Come on... the menu isn't that big your wait staff should taste every item on there and know what they are talking about. Now to the food. It was good - I had the burger which I ate all of. My husband had the chicken meatball sandwich that was good. Menu is definitely different so if you're looking for familiar food not the place to go. Mac n cheese was good - VERY rich. Potato pancakes are way too peppery. Sweet potato fries are awesome, but they are no different from sweet potato fries at any other restaurant. read more

After a recent experience at a crummy gastropub in Culver City, I realize I should give credit where it's due: Hudson House is a fine example of the category. They have a good selection of wine and beers, as well as hard alcohol, with decent happy hour specials. The service is friendly and efficient, even when they're busy. The food is good as well. I recommend the burger, which is quite satisfying on its pretzel bun. In fact, it's one of my favorites in all of LA. My only complaint would be that they, like every other place in LA, want to serve cole slaw on a pulled pork sandwich. (No, that's not how you do it--the heat from the pork turns the cabbage limp, and the slaw turns the pork into a milky mess.) No big, though, I got it on the side (that's how you do it), and it complimented the sandwich excellently. read more

Three words: Get there early!!! Small and hard to get a table if packed. The decorum is fantastic if you are going for a dark enough to be cool, light enough to read your menu(if you get one), and hip but simple atmosphere. they have one decent sized flat screen at the bar if you want to watch a game or whatevers on. Both times I've been it has taken some time to get a menu and a drink. 10-15 minutes. That is a lifetime, especially if you sit at the bar. The food itself is good. I would call it gourmet pub food. The brown sugar short ribs and sweet potato fries are amazing. All the food is meant to be enjoyed with beer, of which they have a large assortment (in bottles, very few on draught). One dissapointment to me was the Hudson Ale. It's not that the beer is bad, but its the fact that it's actually Budweiser or Coors American Lager something or the other. They just put another tap on it and called it there own. The bartender told me this after I drank my first. It's decent beer, it just seems wrong to pass it as your own. The other thing is the service. I think it just may be that there is not enough bartenders or waiters when it's busy, but it takes for-friggin-ever to get a beer or a menu. To summerize: -Gourmet Pub Food -Good atmosphere (date spot for sure). -Get there early: no waiting list, small place, people linger at tables. I recommend by at least 7pm if you want a table. -Large beer list. -Service is not great. Get ready to flag a waiter down. -Pricey, but will not break you. read more

Nice little bar with a a limited food menu, but pretty extensive beer selection. I really enjoyed the acai wheat berry beer - try it if you're into fruity beers. The pretzel burger here is excellent. I also tried the coconut shrimp with plantains - this dish was only ok for me. Not sure what I was expecting, but I just couldn't decide if I liked it or not by the end of that dish. I'll definitely be back to have that burger again and to try some of the other menu items. LOVE the burger! The bun is made of pretzel dough. SO delicious. The burger has arugula on it and somehow it is fabulous, would never have thought so. Sweet potato fries are great as is the edamame appetizer. Huge selection of beer, I don't care for lukewarm beer, so be sure to ask server which beer is colder if that's your preference. Service is always attentive and quick from kitchen. Can be crowded if not there early. One drawback: SUPER noisy, difficult to hear any conversations. read more

Yes I too am a Top Chef fan and Brook fan as well. I was taken for my Birthday Friday night. I was surprised how small the place was but that didn't bother me at all. Living in a beach community most of the best places are small and are locals only type places. We put our name on the chalk board and ordered drinks. It was cramped when we got there and I was absolutely amazed how attentive the bartenders, wait staff, and hostesses were. All the bar seats were taken and it was probably 3 deep beyond the bar yet no one was ignored. All drinks we carefully watched and the bartenders would address you at the appropriate time for another. Nice touch. Large beer selection to make any beer lover happy. On to dinner - We ordered the edamame for an appetizer and the bucket of fries to share with our entrees. We did ask for the fries to come with the entrees but they came out with the edamame. No biggie because they were fantastic. Most of the time you get sweet potato fries they are not crisp or don't stay crisp for very long. These were amazing they were crispy and perfectly seasoned. Loved the sweet salty combo. The edamame was fantastic too. The sauce was scrumptious. The entrees were the Pretzel burger and Flat Iron steak with the truffle cheese fries. The burger was great, juicy, and cooked to perfect mid rare for me :) The flat iron steak looked perfect as well. I usually don't care for truffle oil or truffle stuff like that because so many chef's overdue the truffle and it just takes over the taste of everything. These truffle cheesy fries were very good. I will admit the sweet potato fries were better. All in all I loved the food and will definitely go back. I also ordered the rum drink and thought it would have a bit more of a cherry flavor but it was a bit overpowered by the bitters. My boyfriend ordered the watermelon margarita and WOW was it good. We all were eating the watermelon left in the drink and wanted more. The portions were large so no room for dessert. Maybe next time. So you might as why the 4 stars and not 5? The noise level was really loud. We got there around 8:15 pm on a Friday night so it was packed and as the night went on and the crowd thinned out a bit it was less noisy but still barely able to have a conversation at your own table. Well priced for the quality and good ambiance (if you like the noisy, energetic, gastropub feel.). Chicken and Bacon Meatball Sandwich from Hudson House in Redondo Beach. I have been here a handful of times and feel it's one of the better restaurants in Southbay. But this last visit was a bit of a let down. The Meatball Sandwich was the highlight. Meatballs were flavorful and moist. It tasted like mainly Pork(not a bad thing). The bread was just right for a meatball sub. The one thing that was a touch off was the dressing. I got a lot of Basil Pesto and not so much Marinara. The flavor combo was nice. It was also very fulfilling. The other 3 dishes were straight fails. Ricotta stuffed Sweet Peppers were too small, still had stems on, and lacked flavor. The Pretzel Bread Bites should have tasted more like Pretzel. The Roasted Cauliflower had some nice components like Dates and Cashews but still tasted like boring Cauliflower. Plus the Cauliflower head wasn't cut down. They still win in my book because they serve food late, have great ambience, amazingly low price point, and a great Bar program. I'll be back. I'm sure we just missed on those items. The other snafu was they were out of Shish it Shishito Peppers and Shrimp. 2 dishes we wanted to order. Fan of the Shishito Pepper dish.
