So this evening I didn't really have dinner plans. I do enjoy sushi, and I thought that $12.99 was a pretty fair price, so I decided to drive down Cornell one light to 25th Ave to give HGB a try. I was going to see if I could check it out before I committed, but the restaurant is set up as pay first, which makes sense. I paid and went in. So I love sushi...Hero Sushi is my favorite in the Hillsboro area, but as expected this wasn't nearly as good. The rolls, while presented very well, lacked flavor. I wasn't expecting much and I wasn't disappointed. All in all I ended up saving money because I was planning on going to Albertsons for ice cream after dinner, but the "frozen treat" that I had for dessert solved that craving. Finally, the reason I didn't go 4 stars is because I used the restroom before I left and it was a mess. Floor was wet with paper towels everywhere. Not to mention there were two bottles of cleaning chemicals under the sink ( with a towel on top to try and hide). I am fairly sure that would be considered a health hazard if discovered by a certain "Department" {Just a heads up} Glad I gave it a try, but you get what you pay for, and I would rather pay more for better quality. read more

I'm not sure how long Hug Grill Buffet has been open for, but it could use improvement. I've been to many buffets in the Tigard/Beaverton/Hillsboro area, this one is most questionable :') - Most importantly, I DID NOT get sick from the food here. Visited here Saturday, May 7th - Dinner Time. Upon entry, you pay ahead of time to receive a receipt to seat yourself. You'll receive napkins, plastic forks, straws, and chop sticks from the host taking your payment ($41.50 for two people, not including tip). Once you find a table, you place the receipt to save your spot. The place is pretty large, and it's OVERWHELMING to find a table while making sure it isn't already taken (some people forget to leave their receipt, but their plastic silverware are placed). They have a selection of plastic silverware along with metal silverware to choose from. Styrofoam plates that are from Walmart that are super thin (I saw their entire stack of Great Value plates displayed nearby the food). They also have regular plastic plates which were not well washed. I ended up putting a styrofoam plate on top of the regular plate. I'm not what is the purpose of having styrofoam plates. They felt sticky and greasy from all the fumes that fly around from the food. It's also wasteful considering the go through tons each day most likely. Same with the plastic silverware.. What is the point of offering it if you have metal silverware? Female bathroom is kinda dirty.. could use some cleaning in the stalls. Sink and hardware and loose. Water is everywhere. Food is subpar and oddly organized. You'll first see some Chinese cuisines, then randomly there is macaroni... then more Chinese cuisines, then you'll see American cuisines at the end. Food doesn't taste fresh for buffet quality, the food has been sitting out for a while and it shows. The chafing dishes don't appear warm enough to keep food at an appropriate temperature. Some of the items I picked were already at room temperature or cold. A pro about this place is their seafood/sushi selection. Surprisingly felt comfortable eating it. Everything is appropriately placed on ice and looked relatively fresh. I was impressed the pineapple is cut fresh rather than served from a can. They have a decent dessert section (i.e. sliced cakes, shave ice, fruit, ice cream, etc.). I feel like this is a personal preference, but guest are able to scoop their own ice cream. I'm most concerned about hand hygiene just because the scoops are placed back into the ice cream tubs once people are done with them. read more

A date asked me out here. It was standard mediocre buffet food with frozen Costco desserts. The sushi was mostly variations of California Roll with fake Krab. They did have some raw salmon but it looked so sad I didn't try it. The bill for two of us (waters and one beer for him) was $50 (it was New Year's Day, maybe they charged extra?). I was visiting around town and while looking for something to eat for lunch. I was browsing around what to eat. As for Hug Grill Buffet it was recently open. I decent to give them a try. My impression for buffet is always positive. It usually involves ton of different food at the bar. I'm sure not all the food on the bar will be satisfying your taste-bud. It is always going to be a hit or miss. If you don't like it skip to the next dish. It was semi busy when I got there on a weekend. We pay before we get seated. A lot of places does that now so I'm pretty use to it. Everything looks brand new there and open space which is great. Friendly service and great service there. I was greeted with a big smile. First impression, it already make me feel comfortable. They have large varieties of food at the bar. From American to Chinese and more. They even have a Pho Bar. You help yourself create your own bowl of Pho. That is awesome. Not to mention, they have plenty dishes that are seafood base. If you are into that, they have crayfish, salt and pepper shrimp, and so on. Overall, a great place to stop by when you are in town. Especially Oregon, they don't have much places that has Buffet. There price is very cheap compare to Seattle buffet and Oregon state is tax free. Great! I will be back again if I'm in town again. read more

Found an incredible new restaurant!! They are having their soft opening right now. Easily rivals the buffets on the Las Vegas strip. Everyone in the family found several favorites. Sausage, ribs, shrimp prepared seven different ways, steamed buns, and much more. The Mongolian grill is phenomenal. The sushi is oh so fresh and exact. If you were reminiscing about Todai from back in the day at Pioneer Place, the original sushi buffet in town, this is NOT it. This place is trash. Food is disgusting. There is no decorum with the diners; it's the wild wild West out there. People just handle food and line up however they want. The only thing we liked was the space. Just enjoyed Christmas Eve dinner with some friends. It was our first time there and we all loved it. Amazing selection, and they even have a made-to-order Mongolian grill. Sushi bar, salad bar, excellent seafood selection, dessert bar, fresh fruits, just everything. I especially liked the Broccoli Beef and Shrimp stir-fry. The set-up is good, too. Pay up front, find a seat, eat. No fuss. Very clean. It's a good thing I live in Portland, don't make it out to Hillsboro that often or would be spending way too much money there. read more

Awesome new buffet place. We decided to try this place for the first time and loved the food. Chow mein is a little bland but not bad. The price is very affordable and they offer military/veteran discount. The buffet setup is kinda like a Las Vegas style buffet. Our family will definitely be coming back here often. First of all the service was pretty good. That is the only star I'm going to give. The food was ok but for the price there are much better options out there. I'm I'm not one to leave reviews but I can't help but come here to let people know how clean their food is. So clean that I can taste the detergent in some of their food. Yes the ice cream scoops are disgusting, yes their fried stuff are soggy, yes Chloe will probably refute me here, but wow does my stomach feel cleansed with all that detergent down the hatch. Normally my fiancé and I have an excellent meal at this restaurant never any issues until today. We get there and pay almost $50 for two people just to find food that is old and cold and burnt up in the pans and not a variety as normal. Sad to say the meal was so disgusting that we could barely eat it and when we asked the lady for refills and soy sauce she came and literally threw them on the table and took off. Quite literally the definition of corpse contamination, if you have any food allergies do not go there. I got the mongolian grill and made my plate only veggies and i watched as the woman served the last plate where she had cooked shrimp which i'm allergic to and just pile my noodles on top no scraping it no attempt to clean. Came in on a Sunday afternoon and called ahead of time just to make sure they had dine in available. The lady told me to go ahead and come in that they were not busy. We arrived at about 6.30pm and it wasn't very full when we went in but this place is huge! I instantly compared it to kumi buffet out in Clackamas but a bit bigger! Sure kumi is more fancy but this place definitely had better food! I was unable to try from every section as I got full and it seemed to be never ending! Large variety of basically everything they had. Due to covid the servers have to serve you and they give you paper plates. Id suggest that they take out their pho soup section because they have raw shrimp, chicken and other raw food sitting out waiting for a costumer to come and eat it! Very good verity of food. Was there the other night for the soft opening. First the Cons (why you're here): 1) Their high chairs need to be switched out. We couldn't get our son into the chair. The cross bar is too low. You have to bend his feet to get it into the opening. 2) Better lay out or better signage. (I know it was a soft opening) But my wife and I were confused as to what we do with what. They have a kind of Mongolia grill happening, no real explanation or sign like here is Mongolia. 3) Very minor nit picking, but would like to have some melted butter with the crawfish and clams. 4) clean the bathrooms more often. I went into the Men's room and it had water (not pee, but water from hand washing) everywhere. It was dirty, but not discussing. 5) A drink menu at least a list of what is available left at the table. Pro's: 1) Service was great. I can't say anything bad about the service. Everyone was professional and Johnny on the spot. 2) the food was good. The attention to detail was comparable to a sit down restaurant. Give you an example, I had a few helpings of claim, but only tasted grit once. They care enough to make sure the claims are clean, but still full and ready for the people to eat. 3) what makes this buffet different is that with the sushi and other Asian cuisine, you can fill up without feeling stuffed and bloated. Plus a mix of steak and sushi, awesome. 4) The short ribs. They are that good I made them their own list item. 5) the price was amazing. 6) the buffet itself was clean and full. That's about it. The atmosphere is fine but that's about the only thing I appreciated. When you walk in, they make you pay before you can even enter. You have to tip before you even start. Everything is self-serve so I'm not entirely sure what we're tipping for? The only table service was people walking around to hand out napkins and fill water cups, but we did have to ask a couple of times before we got our water. The food was below expectations. There were a couple dishes here and there that were tasty, but for how big this place is and how much variety they offer, I expected more. The food looked like it had been out a while, was not fresh and started to dry out. Many foods were missing labels and many labels were incorrect. (The han was labeled smoked salmon...) What can I say. Chinese buffet!! When I was a kid I would go downtown PDX to Golden Dragon (now a strip club...) for Chinese buffet and It was awesome for its time. When I saw this was opening I was super excited. We hit the spot the first day it was open and it's really well done. It's super clean, very nice, bright, lots of options, food was fresh and good. It's a little spendy probably because they have a lot of sushi options in the buffet. The Mongolian grill section is a cool addition and also quite good. There really wasn't anything I didn't eat. We have been here since they first opened the food was delicious hot and fresh but the last few visits were not so good and tonight's dinner was really bad first off I received a veteran discount so it was good but was charged for an apple juice which was never ordered just water maybe to make up for the deal my first bite was the roast beef and I couldn't get it out of my mouth fast enough it was soggy and extremely salty I tried the crab but it was cooked so long or sat out so long the meat shrunk to a lil dried bit the fried shrimp was hard and stale I moved on to potstickers which were tough and also dry I finally gave up on the food and tried the desert bar everything looked good but was no better either too cold and hard but definitely dry all this explains why the huge seating area was mostly empty I'm sad to see and taste the only buffet in town in such decline I hope they pick things up and get back to the basics hope this helps you and you find it in a better place happy dining and thank you for your time read more

Not only did I throw up in their parking lot but I'm at home throwing up! No wonder why they make you pay up front! the fried shrimp that I had was undercooked! The fried rice was DRY! The only thing I could eat and enjoy was the fruit. Wasted $45 to get sick! Wouldn't wish this place on my worst enemy. The only reason I came is because I seen some reviews saying this place was good but don't believe the hype it's DISGUSTING! Ps no one was eating too fast (your food isn't good). Malicious? We went on President Day 2022. Lunch was $12.90 per person. The place is new, CLEAN, actually very clean. The sushi and Chinese food were very delicious. Much better than Panda Express. My kids love the Hawaii shaved ice. You will not be disappointed. Best buffet at the west side of town. read more
