Hugo's cellar is the greatest steak house to ever exist. You can argue with me all you want but this place cannot be beat. The ambiance, the service, the quality is just out of this world. I honestly plan my Vegas trips now a days around coming here. I don't think my trip is complete if I don't come here for dinner. The price is great(a bit high but it's a steakhouse) it includes the salad and a light desert. The cocktails are cheap AF, a double serving of a Manhattan for 13 bucks cannot be found anywhere in the world. I've only had the New York strip and it's delicious. This place is a blast from the past and if one day the four queens decides to close this place, I'll chain myself to the door. If you come here, don't kill the vibe by coming in a t shirt. Going down the list of all Steakhouses on Fremont, so for this trip in to town, I decided to take my girlfriend to Hugo's Cellar. Everything you've heard is true.... A beautiful rose for the lady when you arrive, great bar and witty bartender with drink skills!! Quick seating. Impeccable service. And the food is fantastic. Most entrees come with a side and the steaks are cooked to perfection. The dinner salad made table-side with exactly what you want in it while the waiter chats with you is such a wonderful touch and makes you feel welcome. Our New York strips were done perfectly, one with crab, one with bleu cheese crust. Sides were excellent as were our cocktails. I honestly have no complaints but one... And I've heard it said before. Depending on where you are sat, other tables being loud or boisterous can be very annoying and ruin the ambiance somewhat. A recommended romantic hot spot for an impressive date night...come hungry! Stems of red roses are provided for all female patrons. The ambiance is certainly that of a cellar, and has a real 1970s feel--but in a tasteful way. I made reservations so my party was seated immediately. The service was excellent, but may appear to be pretentious for others. The servers are attentive, but not hurried to allow patrons to savor every part of their meals. Our sommelier was Vincent, and he did an excellent job recommending our wine selection from what we were in the mood for at the time. The presentation was also wonderful and professional. We ordered the Queen's Lobster as appetizer. It turned out to be wonderful, with plenty of sun-dried tomatoes and large pieces of lobster. I ordered the Ribeye Steak as an entree. It was very hearty and cooked perfectly. It came with green beans and mushrooms as a side and I upgraded my potatoes to au gratin (+$4) and a grilled shrimp skewer (+$9) which I felt were worthy additions. The table side salad presentation was wonderful and was unquestionably fresh! It is very hard to "make room for dessert" at Hugo's Cellar, but the desserts they offered looked wonderful--unfortunately I was too stuffed to order one! They do provide chocolate covered strawberries, figs, and apricots at the end of each meal! Overall, I truly enjoyed dinner at at Hugo's Cellar, and would certainly recommend this for an "Old School Vegas" experience that is becoming more uncommon! read more

Their 999th review....!! A very romantic dinner ambiance indeed. Babes took me here for my 25th birthday. From beginning to end it's like a fairy tale. The service is excellent and the food, superb. They made us feel like VIP. I couldn't tell you what my favorite part of the night was because it was all so magical. The salad starter was just amazing... making your salad exactly how you like it. The meal we had came with a dessert which was strawberry covered with chocolates and apricot. I would like to commend all of the servers because they deserve recognition. Ah, come on!! There is NO WAY you can be charging $75 to $95 per steak an not know how to cook it!! We had to send back 4 of 6 steaks, at a high priced steakhouse. I ordered a ribeye medium rare.. I got a ribeye that was raw meat in the center of most of the steak, not even warm. I sent it back and was handed a medium well steak with a plate of overly cooked sides. We were out for a special occasion, so I didn't want to take the focus off of that and instead of having a great meal, just picked at it and we took it home for the dog. They make a big deal of complementary desert. Chicolst covered strawberries, figs and apricots. The strawberries were really pale pink and we must have gotten the farm stand rejects. The apricots were typical dried ones with a tasteless brown topping. The figs, meh...and I love fresh figs, but these were just grocery store dried ones. The highlight of the meal was Roxanne, our salad server turned waitress. She did a great job on everything! Then the wine. We tried ordering to bottles of pivot wine, only to have the wine server return to tell us they are out of them. Ok, kinda a bummer to have to.go through the wine selection 3 times, but not a big deal and I'll chalk it up to supply chain problems of 2021. I asked for suggestions as an alternate to our selection or a Bordeaux, a Beaujolais was recommended. The wine server was very sweet and trying hard, just not trained for a high end steakhouse. Ok. So here were the upsides. The sea bass was quite a large person and was reportedly cooked well. Our table was located in a small room that offered some privacy and was conversation friendly being separated from the main dining room. Our server and assistants were spot on, taking care of us throughout the evening. Wine service was helpful and timely. Entrees include, bread basket, table side prepared salad to individual order, a pallet cleansing sorbet and a dessert tower with assorted fruits. Appetizers included several orders of escargot which were buttery and delicious. The prepared to order salad was generous in size, fresh and tasty. Our party ordered a variety of entrees that included prime rib, filet mignon, duck, seafood trio (shrimp, scallops and salmon), beef wellington, filet and shrimp. The entree also include a choice of potato and fresh vegetable which on this evening were haricot vert. For our anniversary celebration a complementary dessert of chocolate lava cake was provided. One of the house specialty desserts, bananas foster was ordered. Both desserts were over the top excellent. A table side brewed carafe of Kona coffee was the finale Overall the food was high quality and well prepared as ordered. Some thought that the beans were very al dente. The portions are generous and sharing should be considered. On this occasion there were several take home boxes. Been coming to Hugo's for 30+ years. Food is still awesome. However they now deem it appropriate to allow people to dress like pigs in the restaurant. I aways considered Hugo's to be a very upscale expensive old Vegas establishment . Not anymore, now they allow every low life Vegas tourist to come in dressed however. I am a local, I have never been to Hugo's and we were excited to go! We were greeted at the door with a rose and it was very nice. The dining area was very inviting and reminded me of old school Vegas. Our server was very kind, he made recommendations and he was accommodating and kept checking back. I think his name was Carlos. We were also recommended a good bottle of wine, we enjoyed it. We had shrimp and escargot for the appetizer . I enjoyed the shrimp, though there were few. The escargot was the worst I've ever had. The salad cart came around and we didn't enjoy it. The man kinda went off saying very quickly, "tomatoes", "cucumbers", "shrimp", "artichoke hearts" etc. and we could say yes or no. It felt like a auction and our salads were tossed on a plate not treated very nicely. Our son had chicken, he really enjoyed it. My husband had the lobster, green beans and scalloped potatoes. My husband did not enjoy his meal. The potatoes are very rich , the green beans were absolutely disgusting, the lobster was under cooked and bland. I had the scallops, scalloped potatoes and green beans. The scallops were delicious ! The scalloped potatoes again, very rich, filled with blue cheese and the green beans are very strangely seasoned. The green beans really resonate with me, I'm not sure how they are prepared but they are gross. We had strawberries for desert , and we really enjoyed that. We paid fine dining prices and I wouldn't consider this fine dining. I would rather eat at the steak house across the street in the Golden Nugget. What a great dining experience at Hugo's Cellar!! Our first time dining here, made reservations 3 weeks before to celebrate our Anniversary. From the moment you walk downstairs you are taken back in time to an old school dining experience where ladies are greeted with a long stem rose and then we were quickly seated at our booth. The table side salad offers so many topping options and so delicious & satisfying. The bread basket has an assortment of different options to enjoy and the Martini drink was enough to refill again & again! We enjoyed our raspberry sorbet mini cone to cleanse our pallets before our main course. Our Tomahawk steak dinner was cooked to perfection, served with 2sides each and the presentation was on point! To close our evening, we enjoyed a complimentary cake dessert and strawberry platter that came with dinner. Everything was superb and highly recommended if you're in the Downtown area. Had a great time here! I don't frequent Fremont, having a total of 2 times I ever go there. Something about the kinds of crowds, smoke, and noise bother me here but I get a feel of what it must have been like some decades ago. The low lighting, brick interior give a vintage vibe and romantic vibe that I haven't felt in any restaurant I've been to before as it started with roses handed to females before being seated at the table. I ordered a lobster bisque and Kona coffee for two to start. The lobster bisque had to be the best I've ever had, with such a creamy taste that the lobster flavor came closely after. My wife hates seafood but found this lobster bisque taste great to her. The coffee was a harder sell for her since she's not a coffee person but I was! They give you good fixings for cream, sugar, chocolate stirring sticks, and cinnamon. I asked for sugar and they would provide that for me. The Kona coffee for two came in an interesting coffee brewing system that took about 10 mins to brew before the turned off the heat. As I ordered an entree, I was given a table side salad and I was surprised to taste something great from that since I had Olive Garden to compare it too, which blows that out of the water. The sauces and dressings they have are made in house, which I got a simple Caesar salad with Parmesan, extra red onions, egg, and mushrooms. Before the entree, a server handed me and my wife a lemon-like ice cream as a pallet cleanser, which it did exactly that for the main course. I ordered a beef Wellington. I've had a better breading from Gordon Ramsey's Hells Kitchen but I can say this is a great second place for how tender the beef was with a delicious garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus. Roxxanne was our server and she was great to talk to for our food being served and even for a chat. My only gripes with coming to this place was that they had no restroom of their own and they directed me to the casino's bathrooms, most of which had stalls that were out of order and the restroom itself was closed off after I left. That's where I don't like having to come back to the sometimes looney people that are attracted to the Fremont. The other is depending where you park, your parking isn't validated and I was in the parking garage across the street. Overall, I loved this place and can't wait to come back again. read more

We're locals and we celebrated a milestone wedding anniversary at Hugo's - our first-time dining experience was not disappointing. The atmosphere is warm and inviting...a really old school high-end Vegas feel. It's a very intimate and romantic environment. And the long-stemmed rose given to every woman is a nice touch. We arrived a bit early and had a drink at the bar. Dean, the bartender, was very friendly and helpful and he mad us a couple of incredible drinks: a raspberry lemondrop martini and a "new" old fashioned. I'd say they were some of the best cocktails we've had in Vegas. At the table, Caesar (the server's helper) was very attentive and helpful in answering questions. His demeanor was upbeat without being annoying, and we had some fun joking back and forth with him about a few things. our main waiter (who I won't name & shame) was a bit of a dud. He only came by to mix and serve the salad and one other time, and he had a sourpuss expression and demeanor every time we saw him. The wine steward was helpful and had a pleasant, if somewhat dry demeanor. No real complaints, though...he hooked me up with a great wine pairing for the meal. Speaking of the meal, everything we ordered was excellent. The stuffed mushrooms, lobster bisque appetizers were great. I typically prefer lumps of lobster meat in bisque, but they put a couple of lumps on a small piece of bread floating in the bowl. Not my preference, but it was good. The salad came with lots of options on toppings, and both the ranch and vinaigrette dressings were tasty. On to the entrees: We had the beef wellington and rack of lamb, both with garlic mashed potatoes, a baby carrot, and broccolini (I think). The beef wellington was prepared perfectly with a flaky and crispy outer pastry. The lamb was very tender and flavorful, with a sauce on the side that was excellent and a perfect complement to the lamb. We didn't order desert because we were already packing food to take home with us, but they sent us an anniversary desert of chocolate lava cake which was very good. The bill for dinner and drinks came out to $300, which is a good bit more than we typically spend on dinner...even a nice one. But I can say that the experience and the food were both worth the expense. Not the same Hugo's Cellar food from years ago. Having dined at Hugo's Cellar several times over the last 20+ years I was pleased to be returning for dinner last week. With reservations at 7:00 I suggested we pop into the bar around 6:00 to enjoy a few Martinis and the little crocks of cheese spread and chicken liver pate that alone were enough to bring me back to Hugo's. Advising the bartender of our intentions, he replied that it must be at least 7 years since our last visit as that's how long it's been since those items were discontinued. Saddened to learn of their demise we nonetheless thanked him and said we would return at 7:00 for our table. Returning at 7:00 we were greeted by a most charming and gracious Maitre D' who seated us without delay. Service was prompt. I suggested we start with Hugo's Hot Rock Specialty for Two with a Trio of Sauces along with the crab stuffed mushrooms as the appetizers, followed by the N.Y. med. rare with potatoes au gratin and the Maple Bourbon Duck with fingerling potatoes. After a delightful conversation with the Sommelier Frederick, we chose a St. Emilion for $120 to wash it all down. Well, the wine was delicious. Unfortunately, the food......not so much. The Hot Rock Specialty was clumsily prepared - the waiter dropped the tongs on the floor; the meats presented for searing - Medallions of Filet Mignon, Ahi Tuna, Shrimp and Breast of Chicken - arrived unseasoned and therefore were rather bland after searing. The Trio of Sauces: a good Bearnaise, a lackluster Mustard, and a Plum sauce from a jar didn't do much more than to make the dish passable. The crab stuffed mushrooms, on the other hand were inedible. One taste revealed that the crab had turned rancid. I politely handed the dish back to the waiter, politely informed him that they were inedible, politely asked that they be removed from the check and politely requested he inform the chef of the state of his crab stuffing. Unfortunately, in spite of my politeness. I fear the waiter took my displeasure with the mushrooms personally, and without so much as a "Sorry about that." just took the plate and stormed off. He remained distant and aloof throughout the rest of the dinner. I personally have always thought of the "Hugo's Famous Tableside Salad" service with the sixteen or so available "toppings" more of a gimmick than a true culinary adventure - something to be tolerated before the main course arrives - so we just asked for small Caesars and were pleased with the result and the friendliness of the salad preparer, who over the course of the meal morphed into our server as our original waiter found little reason to continue on with us after our displeasure with the mushroom appetizer. The N.Y. was mostly fat and gristle, the Duck and it's Maple Bourbon Glaze was, well, just not that tasty and far from delicious, but having already reached our self-imposed limit of only sending one dish back to the kitchen per meal, we just lingered over our mostly uneaten plates, cutting them up into little pieces so it looked like we were eating. The Potatoes Au Gratin were, in fact, a triumph. Absolutely delicious! And paired wonderfully with our bottle of St. Emilion. After the meal we ordered Irish Coffee - also delicious - and were presented with a hot molten lava cake and a plate of chocolate dipped strawberries and apricots, compliments of the House. The tab was $400. We left an $80. tip. In summation, the front of the house staff: the Bartender, Maitre D', Wine Steward and Salad Preparer were pure Old School Joy: super friendly and attentive, well spoken with a quick sense of humor and skillful turn-of-phrase, eager to engage in friendly banter and repartee and happy to share stories and reminisce on the Las Vegas of years ago, and eager to speculate on what the future holds. It was our last night in Vegas and me and my friend always try to do at least one nice sit-down spot before we leave. He wanted prime rib so we stopped by here. It was a Monday night and we were able to get a table without reservations. upon being seated, the host gives all female guest a rose- which I thought was pretty sweet. We ordered the Escargot en Croute to start off and it was pretty good! It's a buttery flaky pastry on top of escargot and I really liked how they prepared it here. My friend finally got to order his prime rib (I forgot what sides he picked that came with it but we also ordered an additional side of mashed potatoes) and I ordered the stuff jumbo shells. I had a taste of my friends prime rib and it was pretty good, however my friend said that House of Prime Rib in San Francisco was better. I really liked what I got and I was surprised on how big the portions were. For drinks I got a Moscow mule and he got a martini- they do not play with their drinks. They're strong and super good! They also start you off with a salad and they bring a salad bar to you and you can customize the way you like your salad which I really liked. The service was amazing, but the only problem we had is how long we had to wait for our food. It took almost hour for our main entrees to be brought out and by the time our food came it was pretty late and we had an early flight the next day. The up charged baked potato looked like it survived yesterday's dinner to be served today. It wasn't even remotely hot. What a huge disappointment. Couldn't get the waiter to come to the table for 10+ minutes to check on us or our meals. By that time you know you are just screwed. Do not waste your time or your $$$$. This place is NOT worth it. Hugo's Cellar, as the name implies, is a restaurant tucked away in what is basically a cellar at Four Queens. Like many in Las Vegas, you've probably walked by it countless times not knowing what it was. Hidden down a dark flight of stairs, though, is one of Vegas' best kept secrets. Let's start off with COVID protocols. Staff wears face masks, table are separated and booths have plexiglass partitions between them, and customers are required to mask-up when not eating or drinking. Upon entry, all women receive a long stem red rose. And they're actually real and fresh. What a nice touch. It really made my fiancée feel special. The hostess guided us to our seat, a quaint little booth that truly felt like we were eating inside someone's house. The decor is a bit dated, but that's what makes Hugo's so special- it's like eating at an uncle's house. The service is spectacular. They make recommendations, are not pushy, and are quick. We started with cocktails. Hugo's does not have a cocktail menu, but they do have a full service bar, so there is something for everyone. I opted for a Wild Turkey old fashioned. Very good. Not a fan of places that use small ice cubes for old fashioneds, but otherwise, it was a solid drink. The server then brought out some bread and butter. The butter is shaped liked a rose. The bread was good, but I barely had any as I was trying to save room for dessert. All entrées come with a romaine lettuce salad prepared table side. Dressing options were peppercorn or Caesar, both very good. Salad additions include cherry tomatoes, shrimp, pine nuts, blue cheese crumbles, hearts of palm, artichoke, croutons, freshly grated Parmesan, and freshly ground black pepper. Salads can be boring, but wow, was this one good. All entrées come with complimentary raspberry sorbet served in a mini cone after salad to cleanse the palate. We skipped appetizers because we wanted to save room for dessert. I choose the filet Atlantis style which comes with a 10-oz. filet mignon topped with lump crab wrapped in pancetta with two snow crab claws on the side. The Atlantis style additions were good. My steak was a tad bit overcooked. I ordered medium rare, and it was closer to medium. My fiancée tasted it and disagreed, so who knows, maybe I was mistaken. Still, very good. A delicious béarnaise sauce and sautéed mushrooms were served on the side. Like you would expect in a classy steakhouse, hot wet towels are served after dinner. All entrées come with complimentary chocolate-covered strawberries and fruit with whipped cream. We also decided to order Hugo's coffee and the bananas foster. The coffee is spiked with whisky and topped with whipped cream. Very strong and tasty. The server will make and flambé it table-side and serve it over vanilla ice cream. Nice touch: they bring the ice cream out after the bananas foster is ready so that the ice cream does not immediately melt. Hugo's Cellar is one of Las Vegas' best. So we visited a friend for the weekend and he took us to 1 of his favorite steakhouses in DTLV. I reminded him that I've stopped eating red meat and he shrugged and said "I don't care what you eat." Jerk. The jerk said the Prime rib here is amazing and I should try it. I wanted fish instead but I noticed the price for the sea bass was the same as the 10z prime rib so I allowed the jerk to convince me to eat red meat for the evening. We also got the Escargot, which was meh and the Fine cheese plate, which was pleasant as starters. We weren't famished but the jerk was paying so why not splurge, right?! Service was immaculate and that is to be expected at an establishment that bills itself as fine dining. Oh, about the drinks. It needs to be pointed out the bartender did not water down my martini & Long Island iced tea. I was beyond buzzed and since the jerk only sipped at his glass of water he was trusted with my rental for the drive home. This was an annual stop to have dinner whenever visiting Las Vegas. However, this is the second time that we were given horrible service! We noticed other patrons that sat on their table after us getting their food before we did. We noticed he mixed our salad differently from other tables that was surrounding ours. My salad was soaked with dressing that it looked like I had half of the portion he made to other tables!! Not once did our waiter, Marco come to take our order after he introduced himself. After waiting 20min, another waiter, Rashard(?) came to take our order. Then it took another 35min to get our appetizer while other tables that came after us were already on their main dish! Since having to wait awhile to be serviced, it was easy to observe our surroundings. I consider Hugo's to be a classy steak house especially when paying those prices, but got turned off when seeing that the dirty dish cart was being brought into the dining area and left until they put on new table linens and setting. Yikes!!! So, see ya Hugo's and hello Barry's at the new Circa Casino Hotel!!! We had great service and food there!!! read more
