I keep coming back to Hugos, because it's a great local spot with lots of great food options for any type of eater/diet. I love the calm vibe, great service and delicious coffee. However I always find the food to be a little on the bland side. Not sure if I am always ordering the wrong dish, or maybe this is a common recurrence. I always come for breakfast. During my most recent visit I ordered the Bruno scramble. It's an egg scramble with veggies and bacon, served with yams and sweet potatoes on the side. The bacon in the scramble was a little salty. The yams and sweet potatoes on the side were a nice change to your typical potato, but again, bland. I also got to try one of their buttermilk pancakes and it was delicious! A little sweet and very fluffy. I try to take advantage of the healthier options when I am there, but truly the pasta mama and pasta papa have my heart. Who doesn't love pasta and for BREAKFAST? Yes please. Hugos has a great covered outdoor patio with fans and a little fountain for some nice ambiance. Very kid friendly and they are able to accommodate larger groups. I suggest arriving early, otherwise on a weekend there might be a wait. Overall great quality food and lots of options, but grab the salt and pepper or hot sauce to jazz things up. read more

Food was good. Service was atrocious, at best. Pleasant, but so slow that I literally had to get up and find our waiter to get my check. Then had to get up again to find him to give him my credit card which I'd been trying to give them for a half hour. Then I had to physically find him a third time to check out because he kept wandering off to chat with the other employees. The key thing though is that even though I tipped $10, for literally the worst service I've had in years; they took it upon themselves and added an additional tip to my card the day after I dined there, over and above the tip that I selected at check out. Hope management reads this and makes it right. UPDATE: Reached out to management and No reaponse. UPDATE 2: I had already messaged "Molly" and never got an email reply back from them. read more

I like Hugo's, I really do, but they can and need to do better. The place is cozy, well situated with pretty good parking. The drinks are good. Staff couldn't be nicer. However, I have a really big issue with a place that charges 22 for a burger, features it on the menu and then doesn't deliver. O.K. So you can choose three items to go on the burger like goat cheese, bacon, even...plantains (good ones). These sides are actually great. It's the burger that is really so so poor, so what's the point? Yes, it's says it's "6oz" on the menu, (hello, a 1/4 pounder!) but it's cooked into the dead zone. Ask for medium rare, never happen. It was tougher than my shoe bottom. You can put all that good stuff on it, but the meat just ain't chewable, literally. Hugo's...go to 8 ounces, or even a half-pounder, offer two sides and fries (charge for the others if ordered), it will cost you the same and have a chance with your cooks, because it's fatter and may have some juice left in it when they are done with it, maybe. 6 ounces at your place doesn't have a chance. Oh, and the fried papas are good without that weird brown "fries powder" you put on them. Maybe ask before you serve that on them as a regular thing? Otherwise, Hugo's is a casual 4. As someone who has ordered from this restaurant a million times, I will never go back again. Not only is the staff unaccommodating and unfriendly, the food never seems to be right. The cost of ingredients is consistently rising which makes sense for pricey allergy friendly food but every single time I visit to eat in or receive a postmates order something is either missing or wrong. I have been to Hugo's maybe like 4 years ago and since then I kind of forgot about this lovely restaurant. Yesterday, I had a doctor's appointment across the street and then my son and I got hungry and decided to visit Hugo's again. We walked in during their happy hour and was greeted by their manager Ellis. What a wonderful, keen, smart, friendly , knowledgeable, professional, great human being he is. He greeted us promptly with a warm, nice smile and took us to our seat. Later came our waiter Kevork K and took our order. We ordered CAULIFLOWER PAKORA, GARLIC BREAD BASKET, SMALL GARDEN SALAD, BOWL BUTTERNUT SQUASH SOUP, SALMAN PICATTA WITH SIDE VEGGIES AND FOR DRINK GOT COKE. Kevork was nice, professional and brought our food out on time. Later, Ellis came by to our table to see if everything was ok and we kind of got caught up in a nice, warm conversation about everything, mainly work and family. Was very pleased with his approach and managerial skills. Great menu choices to choose from with lots of accommodations. Restaurant is pretty, clean and gives you a great vibe and energy. It was not too crowded when we went in, but as we were walking out, the crowd started coming in. Extensive menu and everything tasted FRESH and DELICIOUS!!! We will return in a month. I'm from Ventura but this place was suggested to me by a friend I was visiting in LA. In my area, vegan options are scarce (and even if they do exist, they are boring burgers or salads). I was surprised to see so many vegan/vegetarian options here at Hugos! I'm rarely put in a position where I can't decide! I ordered a vegan Rueben and I was shocked! It was huge and had so much flavor! The fries were also great! My only complaint is the server seemed so confused. I was asking for basic condiments and he would give me a look, then it took forever for him to bring it. He seemed overwhelmed and it wasn't really that busy. We all have bad days so I'll just assume that's what was going on. Over all, great food and ambiance. I look forward to coming back when I'm in the area. read more

We were vacationing in the area and also meeting a California Yelp sweetie pie we all adore. I searched on Yelp, because my family's diet restrictions, a safe place for my family to eat. I called ahead, and they were so kind to answer my questions. I knew I could at least enjoy a salad. Luckily, our friend also was a big fan of Hugo's! I was so tickled after arriving and spending more time reading the menu. Almost everything was gluten-free or could be modified to be. Even the appetizers. No gluten goes into their frier. All I had eaten all day was plain lettuce with some plain chicken, so I was starving. One of everything, please! ;) The girls shared the chicken strip appetizer, which came with French fries and a choice of ranch, honey mustard, or marinara sauce. They loved them! My husband had the spring rolls. It is so healthy and delicious with the sauce. My Yelp friend and I both had very green casserole. They come with a delicious plant based burger, but you can substitute with a beef patty if you like. I passed on the cheese. Our girls then had a hamburger and chicken strips. Hubby had a crispy chicken wrap. The flavors of everything were elevated. There is so much flavor. I need to learn how to do this to enhance my cooking. Everything was so good. My husband would have liked the chicken wrap to come with a sauce or dip. They are my favorite place in California so far. Samantha, our waitress was really sweet and patient. The experience at Hugo's Studio City on the evening of April 4, 2026 has left me shattered. It was the absolute most disturbing experience I have ever had in a restaurant, and it was the doing of a manager who had absolutely no idea of how to do her job. Completely un-proffessional, mentally and emotionally hurtful and disturbing. The women bated my table of four into a heated and inappropriate conversation only because one of our party was not pleased with the service. Short staffed or not, the staff was not doing their job, and though in the long run, yes, it is a minor thing, and was a minor complaint, the supposed manager purposely escalated it into a heated confrontation which disturbed the entire staff and patrons. She purposely had a goal when she approached the table to take our payment (which was not really her job) to lecture us and bate us into a confrontation, offered no apology for her staff's poor service that night and stood their lecturing and berating all of us for daring at all to have a complaint. She also loudly announced that the staff is paid below minimum wage. This is either a lie or Hugo's is not following correct employment procedures as restaurant workers in CA are to be paid minimum wage. That was extremely unprofessional to announce to the entire restaurant. I have been coming to this restaurant for 5 years on a regular basis, and for some 20 year to the West Hollywood location. Of course, one of her staff made sure they said to never return as he hid behind her skirt, and why would any of us? Apologies from our party to the patrons. This manager should have gone to each table after and apologized. She may have been having a bad day, but you don't take it out on and lecture partrons, particularly when her staff were not doing their job, and she most definitely was not doing hers. Food We feel healthier and fuller every time we visit. Literally we sometimes go to get our fill out veggies for ourselves and kids. We particularly enjoy the pakora, fried chicken plate, salmon plate, plantain sides. We regularly explore the specials and other items and have always been happy campers. Kids were fan of french onion soup, potato pancakes, chocolate chip pancakes, and will also chow down the broccolini sides! Service The servers to a person are so attentive and warm. We always have the best time. We have become regulars here though we don't live nearby it is worth the drive. Also a shout out to the manager who is fantastic as well. Hugo's doesn't carbonate their sodas! I've been there twice in the last year and both time the diet cokes were flat--not just low on carbonation, but totally flat. The first time this happened they offered me lemonade instead. Last night I had them take it off the bill and just had water. The server said he was aware of the problem but that the manager didn't correct it. If they can't figure out how to serve fountain sodas they should either warn customers, take them off the menu or resorts to cans/bottles of soda. I used to go to the Agoura Hills Hugo's and tended to like the food very much although it does have that "healthy" taste if you know what I mean. It would often be my preferred date-night spot for myself (vegan) and my carnivorous spouse. All Hugo's menus are big and they allow for so many substitutions to accommodate allergies/food intolerance and preferences. Very cool!!! However, anytime I've tried this location the food has been meh or made me nearly physically sick. I'm not talking contamination (everything is clean and presented nicely). I just mean lots of stuff is drennnched in oil, or the flavor is just off. I'm sorrrrey, I really want to like it and support vegan businesses but it's just been a letdown multiple times. I need the chefs to eat vegan food at O'cado, Gogoku, Jinya Ramen, The Vegan Joint (pancakes) etc Obviously these aren't all cuisines that are served at Hugo's but like... One of my toxic traits is that I am turned-off by overly popular businesses/spots and try to avoid them. Perhaps it is the anarchist, counter-culture, punk rock side of me. It's stupid, I know. This has bled over to hot spot restaurants with Hugo's in Studio City/Sherman Oaks being one of my many victims. Hugo's has been a Valley staple forever (there is also a West Hollywood location) and with over 1.3k Yelp reviews; I clearly waited long enough and finally tried it for myself... The OG Hugo's location sits at the intersection of Riverside/Coldwater in Studio City/Sherman Oaks border caddy-corner from its sister restaurant, Hugo's Tacos. The eatery has noticeable signage but don't expect anything fancy-schmancy: this is more a neighborhood family-type restaurant with a simple but calming vibe. Two outdoor patio areas are available with one being the tent-Covid leftover structure and the other being an enclosed part of the restaurant, itself. Hugo's boasts plenty of free parking which is much appreciated. My dining partner and I walked into a rather slow restaurant on a Saturday at 5pm (we are early eaters) and were welcomed immediately by the host. Hugo's has several signs enforcing proof of vaccination but we weren't asked to show our cards. We were seated quickly and given water to start. Hugo's popularity is derived from its emphasis on vegan and vegetarian offerings made with fresh, bright ingredients. However, the menu can be overwhelming in the sense that it is a sort of mish-mash of cuisines: you'll find Asian dishes, Italian pastas, seafood, salads, classic home-style meals etc. There is no real theme; but some patrons may find that appealing.  After browsing the menu, my dining partner chose the Very Green Casserole (Broccolini, spinach, asparagus, garlic and herbs in a tomato-basil sauce topped with a veggie patty and melted goat and mozzarella cheeses served with a mixed salad - $18.50) while I went with a Create-Your-Own Salad ($16.50) which  allows you to choose greens, four toppings and a dressing.  I concocted arugula base with sun-dried tomatoes, red onion, red peppers and goat cheese with a  Sherry Vinaigrette dressing. When the food arrived, our eyes soaked up beautifully-presented dishes in very- large portions: larger than we expected! My salad was amply dressed (I like a lot of dressing) and didn't skimp on any ingredients like many competing eateries tend to do with salads. The Sherry Vinaigrette is divine and perfectly complemented my chosen ingredients. My only complaint was that I ordered red onions thinking they will be the standard red onion rings that come on salads; only to find chopped up white onions. What?! My dining partner's Very Green Casserole was superb and perfect for a green veggie/pesto lover topped with ooey-gooey cheese (I took his leftovers home and it was still delicious after the fact). However, the mixed salad side was just mixed greens with a balsamic dressing - I guess I expected a garden mixed salad. Our major qualm was with Hugo's service. Our male server wasn't rude but simply seemed neglectful rarely checking on us and not even acknowledging our stares as he walked by to other tables as we hoped to get service or the eventual check. Again, it wasn't horrible and a large deficit to Hugo's; but it WAS noticeably on the weaker side of the customer service spectrum. Putting my toxic trait aside; I AM glad I finally tried Hugo's and experienced it's casual, neighborhood atmosphere with bright, flavorful food (even with the onion mistake). Service could use a little spruce-up but overall Hugo's is a solid choice for veggie-friendly food if in the area... I just wouldn't necessarily shout it from the roof tops or go out of my way for it. read more

This is a terrific restaurant! I have eaten at the Hugo's in Studio City (they have another in West Hollywood) on several occasions. The service is friendly, and the food is always excellent. I have also had their food delivered to me at home, and it comes beautifully packaged and presented, hot and delicious. I especially like their Chicken Carciofi with artichoke hearts, spinach, cherry tomatoes and Kalamata olives in a lemon white wine sauce - absolutely yummy - as well as their Mexican salad and their Rosemary Potatoes. I will continue to frequent this restaurant and can highly recommend it! I understand they've recently opened a third location in Echo Park. read more

I don't know about vegans but this place is kinda "meh" and "blah" and "I'd rather go some place good" for us herbivore/carnivores. Most importantly, it's $$$ for "meh" food. Parking is fine-they have a lot. They converted part of the lot into a cute patio are. Make sure you literally say "I'd like to sit *outside*", because the have an enclosed patio... which is also "meh". Their mimosas are... not the best. A small bottle of champagne and a small carafe of OJ.... That's it. This place has no pizazz or flare. If you're vegan... I guess it's great. Lots of options for lots of money. read more

Yummy! I came here for breakfast with my husband and the options were endless. I loved seeing all the vegan/vegetarian options available in both the breakfast/lunch and dinner categories. The customization is also a nice touch for almost everything here. They also have alternative milk available too for their chai tea lattes and such. Their parking lot is a bit too small so you may have to park on the street if non is available. Our server was very attentive and friendly. We started off with the mimosa which served for two. It was delicious and refreshing. I made my own omelette with their veggie bacon, mushroom , spinach & vegan mozzarella. I got the side of their potatoes which was seasoned nicely, cooked perfectly and crispy just the way I like it. The omelette itself was also very fluffy and tasty. When my plate came, it was hot and steamy so you know it was cooked fresh. I also go a side of their cinnamon twist french toast for an additional $3 and it was delicious. Freshly toasted, crispy and sweet. However, it was a bit too sweet for my liking even without the maple syrup. I really enjoyed my experience here and unfortunately we came a bit underdressed because we had just came from our hike but the atmosphere and ambiance felt very boogie lol. Came in for quick lunch with the kids. The food was good thankfully but the service was terrible. The food took SO long to come out and the order was wrong for the kids. Also all of our fries were cold. No one came to check if everything was okay I had to go to the kitchen area to let them know what happened. No refills were offered and the mangoria I think it was called had zero alcohol. They had about 4 more couples eating so it's not that they were busy.
