My Hugo's experience is still evolving, but every time I come here I can't help but be satisfied. I've only tried the tacos. The Chicken and Al Pastor are both great. The soft tacos are fine, but their crunchy tacos are truly unique. The shells taste excellent and hold up really well. I was able to drive 30 minutes home and they were still crunchy, no sogginess at all. The sauces are key here. The honey chipotle is excellent and definitely my favorite so far. The avacado salsa and pico de gallo are both good too. The whole process is outdoors. Order at the window then you get your number. You can stand around and wait or you can take a seat at the small area of outdoor seating on the side of the building. Overall I always enjoy coming here and I'm excited to explore the menu further. read more

So angry and disappointed with my to-go order of fish tacos. They were disgusting, literally making me gag. I was so hungry and looking forward to my meal of 3 fish tacos and a side of white beans. Quick and casual vegan friendly taco spot in the valley. One of very few "fast food" walk up spots to offer soy chorizo. My go-to is the soy chorizo taquitos, they come with rice and beans, greens, and guac. It's tricky if you don't eat it there, as they usually get soggy. My partner's order is consistently the soy chorizo burrito. There's a dedicated parking lot and some street spots available North on Riverside. Plenty of seating is available - completely outside but covered. I definitely recommend it, they have an app for ordering pick up orders ahead of time as well. We get vegan/vegetarian tacos for our staff party twice a year from Hugo's. My favs are the potato and the fried tofu. The tofu pieces are soooo big and delicious. These are always a huge hit. The avocado and habanero salsas pair nicely together, and the ordering makes it easy to customize the tacos how you like. I'm on day two of leftovers and the tofu ones are sooooo awesome still (although I should have wrapped them in something so the tortillas weren't so hard because I eat them cold as leftovers). I usually order delivery but the times I have been to Hugo's, it has been clean and there is a super casual little area to sit and eat. read more

For years, this has been one of my favorite taco spots. I go out of my way to stop here frequently however, the last few times I've been to this establishment they have been incredibly rude and thoughtless. I had ordered four hardshell tacos, but somehow managed to end up with all soft shells. And I thought to myself well, at least I have some points that I'm gathering today when I finally wanted to use them, especially after the fact, I got what I order last time. I was excited to use my reward points. and yet the person at the register wasn't prepared to take my order and didn't give me the opportunity to type in my loyalty number number so naturally I ended up spending full price thankfully for tacos that are just fine the way I ordered them. I have been coming here for years. I'm there most Wednesday nights for their burrito special. As a vegetarian, there are a lot of places that just don't offer much, but Hugo's stands out. I have had their potato burritos (my usual order, with white beans, honey chipotle salsa, and a whole wheat tortilla), the crispy tofu (usually as a soft taco rather than a burrito), mushroom carnitas, soy chorizo, all quite good. They also offer veggie burgers -- not the best option IMHO, but the vegan chicken sandwich is quite tasty. They also have a wide range of salsas. I have tried them all, and I think that the honey chipotle has the best flavor, but if you need more or less heat, they have other options available. The people there are quite friendly and helpful, and they recently expanded into a neighboring building that was vacated by an insurance company, so they have some nice indoor seating when the weather outside isn't so nice. They do a good job on keeping the place clean. Sometimes at other places I have to tell them they have tables that need cleaning, but that is never an issue here. read more

So we've been getting takeout from here and eaten here a bunch in the last four years. Lately delivery orders have just been awful with no fault to the delivery service. The food this time was so awful I need to share. We got our food, eventually, and they were COLD. Like chilled to the touch. We also order honey chipotle and XXX RED salsa on the side. We were worried they wouldn't give us enough so we ordered a supplemental honey chipotle. Paid extra for that. We got our order with ONE large tub of honey chipotle- no XXX at all - which makes our meal for us. So. These tacos won't be good. Then we accept our sad fate and dig in and they were cold. COLD. There was also a big hunk of FAT in one of my tacos as big as my thumb. Mmmm cold fat. Yum. They've had opposes in the past but they've redeemed themselves but I think this is the last straw. They make their "mexican rice" with basmati rice and that s*** don't make no f****** sense Just because you put in Mexican seasoning on it doesn't make it Mexican rice basmati rice does not hold the flavor like Mexican rice Mexican rice we all know is a short grain rice!! That's f****** news to me!! If I wanted a potato taco I would have ordered a f****** potato taco because they have f****** potato tacos on the menu oh and these "refried beans" aren't refried f****** beans, they're just f****** pinto beans! The tacos and foos are really good, and I love that it is outside. Every time I am in Studio City I have the tenacious will to go to Hugo's

They have a ton of vegetarian and gluten free options that are clearly marked on the menu. I had a soy chorizo taco and potato taco. Both were yummy. I also added the habanero salsa which was not as spicy as I was hoping. My boyfriend had carne asada and chicken tacos. He loved the chicken but said the carne asada was dry. They add the salsa on top of your taco which we didn't know. We prefer to add ourselves so we'll ask for it on the side in the future. I also had the churros and OH MY. The best churro ever. I haven't been able to have any as I can't eat wheat but there's is gluten free and so good! Plenty of cinnamon sugar on it. read more

The tacos that I tried here are just OK - the fish in the fish taco is a bit dry, and the al pastor meat was a bit too greasy. Also, the food seemed just a bit watered down in terms of spice, possibly reflecting neighborhood taste. Fine for stopping by, but not something to seek out. A word about their Covid mask policy - they evidently had some trouble with some customers so they have signs saying that customers are to have masks on when on their property and outside their cars. I applaud this attempt to enforce safety, but I saw other customers with masks half off while waiting for orders - do be aware of this. I would like to see such policies more vigorously enforced, but I understand the difficulties here for businesses. read more

First of all, they have vegan and gluten free churros!! Im allergic to dairy and gluten, and have been wanting a churro I can eat for decades. Everything is for sure made to order; tastes very fresh and pure and the marination is exceptional. Chicken taco was flavorful (which most places make boring) and the orange and spices really came through in the carnitas. Chicken was well cooked. The carnitas were dry, but I'll forgive it bc flavor and freshness matter most to me and they killed that. Four stars instead of five because 1) they are very stingy with salsa. I was only given two small containers of salsa for my three tacos. I'm used to salsa bars and/or unlimited salsa, and their selection looked great, so this was a bummer. 2) the soyrizo was not spicy and had a mushy consistency. I appreciate that they tried to do home made, but it was a miss and I don't think there's a need for soyrizo / chorizo to be home made. 3) as others mentioned, the cashier seemed irritated to take my order. But tbh I don't care what customer service is like if the food is good--which it definitely was! read more

Not of fan of leaving reviews, especially not negative ones. But I'm hoping they see this is something changes. I used to love this place. It was also my go to for a last minute order. Lately all my orders have had errors, from missing items to what happened tonight. I ordered on the Uber app. I clearly chose Tofu. My order said tofu in the app, and on the receipt attached to the bag, I took one large bite and realized it was chicken. My body cannot process chicken. I phoned Hugo's Tacos and was connected to the manager, Jen. She literally told me that she "just assumed it was chicken". She said she looked at the order, but "didn't look close enough." Seriously. She treated it as though it was not a big issue at all. I was so upset with her response that I snarkily said, "thanks for ruining my night" as I was likely going to be physically ill. As a vegetarian I really enjoy their potato tacos and my boyfriend who is not loves the variety of tacos they offer. We've been coming here for awhile, always take out, and during COVID-19 we continued to pick up take out and support. We came back last Tuesday to see they are temporarily closed because they are tired of having to tell people to put on masks and having their employees harassed about it. Very unfortunate, but completely understand the frustration and exhaustion. When we went the last few times more than half the people there did not bother to put on a mask. The lady seemed impatient and had zero customer service. If you can't greet your customers by saying hello how are you? What would you like to order? You've got a problem. Haven't been here in years. Ordered 2 crispy steak tacos. The meat was soooo over cooked, dry and flavorless. The guacamole had no flavor and seemed store bought. Worst food I have ever tasted. Me and my daughter ordered a steak burrito. It had said it was $9.89 (more or less, +/- a few cents) on the menu and I was charged $10.49. I brought it to her attention just a few minutes later n she was trying to tell me what the breakdown of the price was. The menu said $9.89 and I didn't add anything extra. I told her that she needs to change it on the menu then. She didn't say ok, just kinda brushed it off. No big deal. Whatever. So we got the burrito a few minutes later and holy cow-- completely disgusting! I mean, I hate to write bad reviews but it was literally the worst burrito I've ever had. I stopped at this restaurant for my lunch break because it has a sign stating that they were rated the best tacos in 2022. On the outside it looks clean. But there was no parking. The service was fast. I ended up getting carne asada tacos. The beef was dry, The tortillas were cold. The only thing that was good was the green sauce. Not to mention the prices are way too high. Last night I went to Hugo's tacos in Atwater village, my daughter and her friends ate al pastor tortas and I had a really good soft tofu taco, Ensenada style (not sure) it hit the spot in freshness and flavor, I also had a mushroom torta, the flavor was delicious and it came loaded with guac and pickled onions, very juicy, reminded me of osso bucco. The bread is not tradicional bolillo but It's good. not gonna complain about such things anymore. Today we got crispy tofu tacos and a tofu bowl from Hugo's studio City and it was really good again.
