My companion and I stopped in last night for the first time and we were blown away! The food quality, freshness and taste were unexpected and a first! She had the salmon salad. Her salmon was moist and flavorful and quite generous. Her salad greens were very fresh. I tasted her salmon and agreed with her that it was delicious. I had the combination platter. The falafel were as tasty as any I've ever had. The ground beef, while denser than I expected, was well-seasoned and tasty. And the chicken shawarma was. to die for! I don't know what it was marinated in but I couldn't believe the taste. The hummus was among the best I've had. The sides of tahini sauce offered by the staff were by far the best I've had - in fact they were delicious, and I don't usually even like tahini sauce. If you are trying to get outstanding middle eastern food in Delaware County, PA, I would first recommend Desert Rose in Media. Only about 15 minutes from Hummus, their food is far more superior than Hummus. Pita is made to order at Desert Rose and tastes much fresher. Hummus is good, but the Hummus. restaurant in university city Philadelphia is much better. I believe the university city location is better because of the high volume of people, leading to the food being prepared more frequently, rather than in advance, ultimately having the taste of fresher food. I love this restaurant. Anytime I am in this area, I make a point to stop here for lunch. Everything is so fresh and delicious. There really is nothing on their menu that I would not try. The pita sandwiches are perfect; full of flavor and satisfying, and they are huge (but sort of guiltless, right?) The service is always friendly, too. And the shawarma....wow....delectable. I am a huge fan of Mediterranean food and I have to agree with other yelpers that the hummus here really isn't that great. I am not a hummus connoisseur but I have had some really fantastic hummus and this wasn't one the them. I found the hummus very pasty with not much flavor which was quite a disappointment since the place is called Hummus. The food here is good but extremely seasoned that even after a couple of hours, I was still thirsty from it. I really enjoyed the babaganoush, it is very garlicky...the way I like it. The schwarma I had yesterday tasted so hard and brittle because The chicken has been sitting out for so long... And even though they shaved it fresh... The exterior of the chicken had become hard. The baklava tasted faintly of gasoline. The nuts were old. It wasn't a good taste. I feel disappointed and betrayed. This place was great before... Now it's become strictly average Update! Came in for take out and it got fairly busy. The person who too my order called out for someone for take out and I obviously raised my hand. Went home to realize wasn't what I ordered in the least. I come here often, but sadly, it seems that they can't handle take out when things become busy. We arrived at Hummus with 4 toddlers and 3 adults; we were not greeted with any sort of customer service that would make me want to come back in the future. The service was ok; a bit disorganized. The food was good and solid. There should be more kid-friendly options or kid sized portions on the menu because of the area we live in- people will bring their kids there to eat and the platters are way too big to serve one child. In addition, our kids were having a great time but they were a little bit on the loud side (it was an empty restaurant and we were keeping them as quiet as we could) but the staff was not nice or friendly to our children. In fact, at one point, someone told them to "Shhhh" and be quiet, which we thought was pretty disrespectful. It is by no means a fancy restaurant- we are talking about a take out restaurant that should be considerate, warm and welcoming to families. I like the food so I would come back but Hummus needs to shape up and become more family friendly. Maybe, even add some kids items/kid sized portions onto their menu! read more

I've been coming to this spot for about 3 years. The food is good but and I prefer to come here when I want simple Mediterranean food. Today I had the worst experience I've ever had at this place. Emrah which was the woman taking orders and preparing the food was very rude, disrespectful and unaccommodating. I had a misunderstanding with my order(falafel platter). This time it didn't come how I usually get it which is in sandwich form with a side, or that's how everyone else ring it in. When I came back into the store to speak with her, she ignored me for about 10min. Keep in mind that I had already waited for my food about 30min after she said it'll be ready in 15. I am a very patient person. But, when she was able to get to me she began to say I cannot do what your asking which was me just purchasing the condiments that belongs on a falafel sandwich (I always ask for the platter with all the sandwich fixings). She walked away, ignored me and even when I called her by name no response. I proceeded to ask what was the stores refund policy because it wasn't one on the receipt and her response was "it's not your order!" Afterwards I ask if there is a manager above her so I can go about this a proper way and not her yelling at me all types of offensive things. She continued to ignore. The grill chef walked over to me and asked what can he do for me. I asked if I can get the fixing like on the sandwich I usually get and he said he'll see what he can do. He tried to speak to Emrah and she said aloud with customers in the store, I will not do anything for his order. I place my order at 5:57pm and didn't leave the store until a little after 7pm. you go to hummus for the kebob sandwiches. the lamb and chicken in particular with the works is simply fresh, delicious, consistent, healthyish, and definitely the best in town. all towns need kebob sandwiches which is why hummus is great. Thank goodness for them because without their establishment, we would be a town without fresh kebob pitas. in general, their ingredients are crisp and bold. if you don't want to pay 5 bucks for hummus that's similiar to cheaper ones, DON'T. that doesn't mean the place that serves up the best kebobs in town deserves 1 star. come on. ps my wife loves the falafel pita. read more

Crispy fluffy falafel, juicy chicken shwarma, probably THE freshest tastiest french fries of a 20-mile radius, all reasonably priced, served fast and with a smile. This sure ain't your anniversary restaurant, but for authentic mediterranean classics in the street food wheelhouse, this place is a treasure in the suburbs of Philly. So I'm reviewing the shawarma combo platter and did pickup - so keep that in mind: Chicken Shawarma - It was moist, tasty, a little bit salty but overall tasty. Would definitely get again. Beef Kabob - way too salty and a little too charred. While nice that it is grilled in a sausage shape, it was too salty. Had to dump it in a sauce and put some lemon to make it edible. Hummus - wasn't bad. I honestly can't tell you good from bad but here's what it's like: creamy, smooth, Could have more spices. Falafel - a little on the salty side again, could have a little more texture but it wasn't bad. Cabbage salad - it's red cabbage salad. Not much to review here. Rice - tasty and soft Pita - super delicious in opinion. Light, puffy, soft and delicious. Bottom line: not bad for the price, a little too salty but it could be the batches / cooks on a Sunday. Absolutely the worst! THE WORST !! Beware and be forewarned this place is a RIP OFF ! I ordered from their catering department for my pre-wedding dinner for family and friends. Over $400 in food. I asked AVI the owner for a 6:00PM delivery. They charged me for delivery and a tip for the driver. NO DELIVERY THAT NIGHT!!! When I called to ask where the food was a guy claiming to be the other owner told me I was lying.... they didn't have delivery. NO DELIVERY BUT A DELIVERY CHARGE!!! Remember they charged me for delivery and a drivers tip.....but I was lying! I had to ask family to go pick up the food. As of today this "other owner" still has not called me...still not refunded the delivery fee and drivers tip and NO APOLOGY! To add insult to injury the food was only so-so..One star is pushing it. ***Among the best middle eastern food I've had in America!***** After visiting Israel and Turkey last summer, I have been on a quest to find quality middle eastern food in the Philadelphia area with varying degrees of success. Some places have good falafel, some have good hummus, some have good baklava, none have had it all...until Hummus! I ordered a falafel platter, which to my enjoyment came with not only 6 falafel balls, but also a choice of rice or pita, fries, hummus and two sides (I got the tabouli and beets). It came out on a HUGE plate, and it was less than 10 dollars for this whole platter. The falafel balls were perfectly cooked and seasoned-crispy on the outside and a very soft, almost creamy even consistency on the inside. They were better than many of the falafel I got in Israel for sure. The hummus was INCREDIBLE-- also extremely creamy and topped with olive oil, and is incredibly fresh. You can even buy the hummus along with many of the other sides (beet salad, baba ganoush, etc.) in large containers to take home. The pita was not huge, but was very thick, warm and soft. Definitely one of the better I have had. I put the tabouli, falafel and hummus on the pita and it was delicious. We also ordered an order of grape leaves, which were among the best I have ever had. It was only 3 bucks or so for 4 of them, and the rice inside was cooked perfectly and seasoned with lemon juice. The leaves were not chewy or hard. For dessert, we ordered one chocolate nut roll and one baklava. I make it a point to get baklava every time I go to a middle eastern place, and the only place I ever had a better one was at the open marketplace in Jerusalem. We also had Turkish coffee, which I have never really found anywhere else in the U.S. All of this food, plus my girlfriend's lam kebab platter and two drinks cost just 40 dollars. It is easy to go in there and get a huge meal, have leftovers and spend less than 15 dollars a person if you include a drink and dessert. If you are a fan of middle eastern/Mediterranean food, GO TO HUMMUS! Tons of options for vegetarians as well as meat lovers, great prices, incredible food. They even have Israeli drinks in the fridge. Oh, and it's a BYO! I will be going to this place every week from now on (maybe more if I can afford it!) read more

We (wife, daughter, and I) have been to this location several times and each time is a treat. The best part of the restaurant is the food. The menu includes many of the staples that you would expect at a middle eastern restaurant. Each "platter" comes with more than enough food for a meal, including sides and pita. The quality of the food is above average especially considering the convenience and price. My food order has been correct at each visit (including twice for take-out). The staff is always ready to accommodate special requests and eager to ensure a good experience. While ordering over the phone it seemed like special attention was given to ensure the order had been recorded correctly. The atmosphere is ok and family friendly. It can be loud when it gets busy, but for a quick lunch/dinner or take-out it is not an issue. read more

We've tried here twice and both times the food was pretty awful. The first time we went towards the end of the night and got terrible service, the second time take out, some of which was cold. The fries were really soggy and gross, the chicken shawarma, falafel, and pitas were ok. Potato salad had WAY too much vinegar. Lamb and hummus are good.
