We have order 2 combination platters to go on Friday 08/17/18 evening. Got home with the food to find the falafel to be 3 black burnt balls and the fries burnt to a crisp , totally inedible and unacceptable. I'm wondering what were the people who prepared this to go container thinking, would they have eaten this kind of meal? They either use the same oil for several months or they just burn the food. I am standing in my kitchen eating leftovers from last night and thought I'd post a review. My husband and I are not adventurous eaters but we love good food. We have gotten takeout from Hummus before but last night we ate there. We usually get the same thing which is the chicken breast platter which comes with a whole pita and (a lot of) hummus with a freshly grilled, sliced and seasoned chicken breast served atop the most yummy rice (you have a choice of starches). You also get to choose 2 from their wonderful choices of sides. Hubby got cucumber salad and red cabbage and I got tabouli (of course!) and fried eggplant. The cold sides hold up better then the eggplant if you are taking food home but the eggplant was delicious when eaten there. All the sides are very good, fresh, and prepared just right. Nothing is made where an ingredient overpowers another. My husband, who would never eat hummus before is now a convert because theirs is so good although he won't eat the tabouli which is his loss because it is a taste explosion in your mouth. You order at the counter and food is brought to your table and served on melamine plates and stainless flatware; so much nicer than paper and plastic. Prices are reasonable. A nice healthy option and better than most. read more

I am so thankful for Hummus. I struggle to find quality lamb and falafel in this area and they have consistently provided a high quality product at an okay price. My most recent visit, last evening, I ordered the Lamb kabob platter with the tomato salad and carrot salad, and extra of the greek green hot sauce that they provide. The lamb was well prepared, the carrot salad was surprisingly delicious (if you don't like garlic, I would avoid). I also ordered an extra pita and made myself two little half sandwiches with the hot sauce, hummus, tomatoes, and lamb. The pop of flavor was outstanding and that hot sauce. THAT HOT SAUCE, THOUGH. I've eaten great Israeli / middle eastern food in Philly, in NYC, and in many places in Israel, and I can tell you that this place is ready to play in the majors! The food is fresh and delicious. Prices are reasonable, and the service is friendly and fairly fast. (Remember: This is not a fast food joint... If I were to order a falafel and you'd whip it up for me in 2 minutes I'd run and never come back ;-) I've eaten here almost every weekend, and once brought the guys from work during the week (they loved it). It was so delicious I didn't even stop to take a picture! Work nearby, and have eaten here twice now. First time Greek salad and stuffed grape leaves, wonderful service and delicious food. Second time I got the shawarma sandwich on a wheat pita and that may have been the best lunch I've had in a long time!! So so so very good. Sadly, this place has gone steadily downhill since it opened. It's a shame. My latest experience was on a Tuesday night at 7 pm. The place was completely empty -- maybe I should have taken that as a sign. I walked to the counter to order a chicken kabob sandwich for my son and a chicken kabob platter for me. The sandwich comes with a bunch of stuff inside, sauces, cucumbers, tahini, and the like. It's all delicious stuff, but as it happens, my son doesn't like all of the stuff in there. I order a sandwich but ask them if they could put the garnishes on the side. They said no. Surprised, I ask them again, and explain that I want the sandwich, but not the other stuff that goes with the sandwich inside the sandwich. They explain that they can't make a sandwich like that. If I want it without the stuff inside, I'd have to order a platter, which is an open face kabob and bread with sides. I said that I'm not interested in the sides and I'm not trying to get extra stuff. I just don't want them to put the garnishes inside the sandwich. Don't give me more stuff, just don't put it in the sandwich. I look at one of the other workers, hoping they might be able to help me. He also explains that they can't make a sandwich without the garnishes inside. Beyond confused, my son and I turned around and left them with their empty restaurant. Hopefully they are content in the knowledge that they protected the integrity of their sandwich over, you know, actually selling a sandwich. read more

The chicken platter looked beautiful! But, the whole meal tasted like someone dunked it in salt water. What a shame. The seemingly fresh ingredients give this place potential. It also didn't add to my experience that this disappointment cost about $12 hard earned dollars. First of all, for a place called Hummus, it was surprising that the dominating flavor in their hummus was salt. It lingered on my tongue through the whole meal and by the middle I almost dreaded taking another bit of it. Their chicken oddly tasted like hotdog and was colored somewhat red. I hope that the color was a legitimate spice and not food coloring. One cool thing about this place is that they have free sauces on a side table. I chose the green sauce that was composed of wonderful bits of green herb it seemed. What a let down that it tasted like....grass and sea water. Hummus, please stop using so much salt in your food, it deserves better! I can see where people who are accustomed to the salt, grease, and sugar loaded Standard American Diet (SAD) might think that this place is great. I had the shawarma platter, which was good. Definitely plenty of food. The real winner was my wife's falafel pita sandwich. It the falafel itself was delicious and had a real good spicy heat to it. That pleasant kind of heat. The grape leaves were good but I can see why some reviewers don't like them. On the flip side, I didn't love the baklava. It was good, not great. A bit buttery for my taste whereas I prefer it to be heavy on honey, which was probably the result of it being dense on filo dough. Still, a good meal. The layout of the restaurant is a little awkward but it can't be helped. Any time someone is picking their drink(s) out of the cooler, they're blocking the bathrooms. And the table we sat at was a bit close to the counter which was awkward when people were waiting to order. read more

Very disappointed with this restaurant. It is not hard to make a fresh Israeli salad. The salad I received in my falafel platter look like it was three days old. From the fluffy, fresh pita, to the toasty, delicious falafel, to the extra creamy hummus, this place has very good food. We ordered the falafel platter (don't get the hummus platter, because for an extra dollar you get everything in that plus falafel), and were completely full with food left over by the end of our visit. Disappointing two meals in a row. We used to visit Hummus regularly, but the quality of our last two visits was so disappointing I doubt we will return. The chicken was so dry on one visit it was inedible. On the next visit the hummus, which is usually amazing, was thin and runny. The pitas were overcooked, dry and hard. Even if the hummus had been good they couldn't improved upon enough to eat. On both visits we ordered 4 shawarma platters for take-out from the Ardmore location. We picked up immediately and were home to attempt to eat the piping hot meals quickly. read more

I had Hummus cater a party for my husband this past weekend. Hummus (and especially their shawarma) is one of his favorite places to eat locally. I couldn't have been more pleased! The ordering process was smooth, and Avi (the manager/owner?) was wonderful to work with. I decided to buy platters a la carte, to be able to choose our favorite foods for the party. She lent me her warming tray to keep the shawama and falafel warm without drying out, which was a huge help. I decided to get their beets, pita, greek salad, and stuffed grape leaves.....everything was exceptionally fresh-tasting and beautifully presented. I really love Middle Eastern cuisine and Hummus in Ardmore is one of my favorites. Its very easy, when seeking out Middle Eastern cuisine, to be served a vinegary mess smothered in hummus with dry pita. I've had almost everything on the menu but my favorite is the combination platter. I like to get the combination platter with chicken shawarma, lamb kabob, falafel, beet salad and eggplant. The lamb kabob is super tender and an absolute textural dream to eat. When lamb is done right there is not a single meat on this planet that can compete. The chicken shawarma is seasoned well and not tough, and the salads are refreshing and a welcome addition to such a meat-centric meal. The falafel at Hummus is kind of hit or miss. Sometimes its really fresh and crispy and sometimes it tastes like its been in the fryer for a couple hours. Same goes for the fries, extremely hit or miss. I had the turkish coffee yesterday for the first time and THAT was not turkish coffee. I got a full size mug of what tasted like run of the mill, gulp it down with an eggo waffle coffee and was not pleased. The ambiance is really casual and I would have liked a slightly more sophisticated looking dining room to go with the quality of the food. My biggest problem with Hummus is consistency, but you are more than likely to have a good and sometimes GREAT meal if you decide to go. 4 stars because the meats are always stellar and because I can't count on the fries or falafel being top notch. read more

I called the restaurant to advise them of the error and request a refund and I received horrible service. I was spoken to in a very unacceptable manner by an extremely rude man. I never went back. I was so excited that a mediterranean place delivered. But boy was I disappointed. My boyfriend and I both ordered chicken kebabs, he got the platter, and I got just the kebabs. I figured that for such a high price, the platter would be a lot of food, and I could snack off his. The platter claims to come with two salads, hummus, and pita. Each salad was just a spoonful of chopped veggie. The hummus was tasty, but that's about it. The french fries tasted awful. And the whole platter came with two tiny, little pitas -- definitely not enough for the hummus, or to have with the chicken. I had to take one of the pitas because for my 'just chicken' order, they didn't give me a pita. Just four little pieces of chicken, cooked, but with no flavor, no spice -- I love kebabs and these just made me want to cry. And to top it all off, they forgot to pack the hot sauce I asked for. I had a very average yet enjoyable meal here. The food is good, not great and it's healthy-ish. The platters are somewhere around $11-12 and you get an ample amount of sides. My criticisms? While enjoyable, there was nothing that stood out about this place or good enough to bring me back. I might return if I happen to be in the area or I may never eat here again. I could care less either way. The hummus is flavorless and the other sauce option that I tried which was like a creamy cucumber-ish flavor did nothing for the meal. Now, if this place added a bangin' tatziki sauce, I would be here all the time. I should also mention that I had the chicken schwarma & my gf had the boneless chicken breast. This place is perfect. I can't bring myself to understand many of the reviews placed below. The restaurant has everything that you could ask for: good service, delicious food, great atmosphere and all at a very cheap price. It is perfect for family dinners, small get togethers and for young adults, it is BYOB as well. I have been to Israel twice now and let me tell you, not only is this hummus authentic, but it is as good, if not better than any that you will find in Israel. The shwarma here is easily the best that I have ever had and the meats are all rich and juicy. Perhaps my favorite thing, however, about this menu is its flexibility. In one dish, I can get shwarma, hummus, pita, israeli salad, rice/fries and any other side that I may want to try. This flexibility is what keeps me coming back time and time again, and what keeps me satisfied everytime that I return. Don't listen to any negative reviews. Hummus is OK, but I would not go out of my way. Israeli-inspired Mediterranean. A typical sandwich was $8-9. I could not really taste the chicken in my Schwarma, but everything seemed fresh. We were really excited when Hummus opened, and it was a good addition to the mainly pizza fare found in these parts of the Main Line. We've eaten here probably 10 times with our 4 kids and usually order the chicken shwarma platter (with various side salads), garlic hummus, Moroccan cigars and baklava. For the 6 of us it is usually about $50. So it's not fast food cheap but less than Bertucci's. The hummus is delicious and the pita is good but very thick. The chicken shwarma is tasty but the servings are small. The platters don't contain heaping amounts of food, and if you order the shwarma as an individual dish you just get a small bowl of it, with no hummus or pita. So Hummus is kind of like a glorified cafeteria where you place your order at the counter and then wait, and wait, and wait, and wait... It takes a pretty long time to receive your food, and since they are always busy, it takes even longer. And, the way the restaurant is designed, it is very crowded inside and difficult to stand in line without feeling like you're going to spit on top of a seated customer. Hummus is a necessary addition to the restaurant scene, but it has lots of room for improvement: have bigger servings, provide faster service, improve the flow so waiting in line isn't so uncomfortable for those in line and those already eating. read more

The falafel sandwich was a bit stingy on falafel balls, sorta a big pita of vegetables with a few felafel balls on top as garnish.

I ordered chicken kabab and it came after 45 minutes! The quality of the food was not good at all.
