If I could do half stars, I would rate this place 2 1/2 stars. The food here isn't great, but it is cheap (which is a plus), so I guess you get what you pay for:). And, although the interior leaves a lot to be desired, the food does come out fast, so you're not inside for very long anyways. This is the second time the husband and I have ordered and felt it was time to give them a solid review. We have ordered the chow mein, kung pao chicken, Hot and sour soup, and the sweet and sour pork. We ordered the potstickers for an appetizer. Each time we have ordered from here the food has been delicious, delivered pipping hot and order correct. My husband did express that the chow mein was okay not the best he has had but it was still flavorful. My suggestion would be to include a brief description to the dishes on the menu. And add a combination that offers a sweet and spicy option. We can't wait to try some of the other dishes. read more

Hunan Express is 1 of my families favorite Chinese restaurants. They are quick, affordable and yummy. My daughter and I order the the beef and broccoli, my husband gets the kung pao chicken. We would recommend either of these dishes. We have never eaten in the store and have only utilized delivery and pickup. Our experiences have always been professional and friendly. read more

This time I decided to order delivery as I'm just too lazy on a Monday and I was not disappointed. Their online ordering system makes it very easy to pick your food and check out. I didn't experience any issues besides me typing my address wrong (user error). When they went to deliver I was prompted with a phone call verifying because she couldn't find the address I typed. Strictly speaking cost wise, this is the cheapest Chinese takeout I've ever come across, $6 for a meal is rather cheap. The quality is not up to an average standard, stale ingredients, and the dishes I ordered lacked a lot of flavor, but fast, respectful service, and cheap prices make me want to come back. read more

Shame how things have changed since covid. The dining room is no longer available for dining. Apparently it's the storage area for boxes etc. I was desiring a great Wonton Soup. I was very excited to try this place out and was very disappointed. I got the sweet and sour combo. And when I opened my food there wasn't any sauce! There was a small container of a clear looking sauce. It didn't look like the typical sweet and sour topping. Also took a leap of faith because there was no description on a lot of the menu items. Please take 'almond chicken' off your menu. So gross. Soggy, bland chicken surrounded by equally soggy and bland zucchini , whole almonds that were off-putting (I guess because nothing else tasted like almond), celery which was the dominant flavor, and for some reason water chestnuts. I am beyond disgusted in Hunan Express in Taylorsville! I found a maggot and they had the audacity to say that I was lying and send someone to my place of employment to make sure I wasn't lying! The guy came in, picked the maggot from my food and said "oh my gosh I'm sorry it must've been in our organic broccoli." He then proceeded to put $6.50 as a refund! I told him to take his money and refund all the meals that this was unacceptable!! We literally got into a yelling match as he refused to do so. I told him I had already called the health department and his whole demeanor changed and said he would give a full refund. This place is horrible. Do not waste your time going there. My partner and I ordered curry chicken and sesame chicken along w rice. We had it delivered. Chicken curry tasted like licorice so I called them and asked if we can have diff order. They said no. Next time don't order it. I ordered from them and chose delivery. I got my food delivered, I had an estimate time of an hour but got my food in 15 minutes. The food came hot and well packaged. I ordered ham fried rice, sweet and sour pork and potstickers. They all look amazing and tastes great. I really love the ham fried rice and the potstickers are a bit crunchy and it tastes great. I wasnt feeling all the fast food in the area and saw this place. Looks like your typical Chinese joint. Small. Mainly made to order and leave. I ordered the garlic chicken combo. Came out fast, express wasnt a joke. I ate every single bite of this thing and was contently full. It was the perfect amount and it was cheap!!! This isnt your top shelf food by any means, but for what it is...quick, easy, good and cheap. A gem in my book and I'll come back when I'm in the area. Beef and broccoli - great flavor, undercooked broccoli (this is a plus in my book, I love it crispy!), just not quite enough beef. Shrimp in lobster sauce - sauce was great (very saucy though, mix in some rice), shrimp was cooked fine but just not seasoned. Ham fried rice - very nice, plenty of ham, i wish it had more egg though. Egg flower soup - maybe the best I've had in Utah! Perfect flavor and texture. Delivery - was told 45 minutes, got it in 25! Guy was super nice. To the owner/manager - add ribs to your appetizers, add just a little more protein to most dishes, I love the egg flower soup and will stop by just to get some, but i wish (and this is just a personal preference) you would add silken tofu cubes to it, then it would be absolutely perfect! read more

Hunan Express is some of the best Chinese food I have had delivered to me in a long while. I have been ordering from them the past couple of times from GrubHub (which is really improved). The first time I had it, I had the Ham Lo Mein and it was so delicious along with their potstickers which were to die for. Last night I ordered their Beef and Broccoli combo plate and its been a while since I have had a decent tasting dish like this! Their egg rolls are so delectable as well as their ham fried rice (I am watering out the sides of my mouth writing this). I don't want to be a jerk and make this sound as bad as possible like some idiots. I'll just give my honest opinion. The food was okay, but not really impressive. I ordered and payed for egg rolls, and got spring rolls. Which wasn't a super big deal, they tasted okay, but I should get what I bought. I can't say about any other food, but the sesame chicken was kind of meh. The chicken was a little hard and not tender, and the sauce was just meh. It wasn't bad, but wasn't very good. Again, I've only eaten here once, maybe I had a bad experience. The delivery guy was good though. He got to my house earlier then the delivery time, so that's a plus. To some up, I would say their food is mediocre. I wouldn't order from there again, but if my friends wanted to get Hunan Express, I'd be okay with it. Two to three stars. read more

I come often because it's cheap and close. The combos are OK, standard veggie egg rolls, underseasoned rice, sauce and veg are good but meat is meh. Avoid the appetizers: shrimp are mostly batter, pot stickers have never been stuck to a pot (mostly steamed starch). This place is good for a cheap solo lunch, but I wouldn't order here for a group. Despite the name, I don't think there are any Hunanese dishes on the menu. And to answer previous reviewers complaining about the service: This place is staffed almost exclusively by the owners. They are Chinese immigrants, they are old, and they do not have a whole lot of English, but I have found them to be kind, patient, and appreciative. I just wish they made better food. read more
