This place is an archive here in Kendall! Been around since I attended college across the street! The subs are amazing! Always has been! The place has not changed at all. Still the same spot with the benches outside to sit and eat. Service has always been stellar. Fast and efficient! This place will be around for another 50 years! Came here to order a sandwich for dinner. Selected the Cheesesteak sandwich with onions, mushrooms and Cheddar Cheese. Hands down the best cheesesteak I've had in awhile. The sandwich was very meaty. Ever since Joshua went blind, he has fostered a great community of other kind blind folk to offer support, and of course, lifelong friendships. Take Spencer for example- a simple, fun-loving kind of guy who loves a good sandwich. Joshua, Spencer, and myself went to Hungry bear (with me driving there, of course). The service was quick and polite. The ambiance was old school! Spencer scarfed down his sub, and I couldn't even get a photo. A Kendall institution: I remember my parents bringing us here in the early 90s, and 30 years later I am bringing my own kid these days. Still the best subs in the area, although their prices seem to have crept up over the years a little more than most. But we'll still keep coming back for cordon bleu and cheesesteaks! read more

I been coming here for over, 35 years it's a little hole in the wall but , the subs have always been great , I just had a steak bomb nothing has really change other than the price , and the young college students from , Miami Dade college nearby . As always it was meaty full of flavor same amount of beef not to greasy , good amount of toppings , i only gave it a 4 cause it not much of a place for sitting , but I highly recommend the subs . Thanks guys for still making great subs, I'll keep coming back .. read more

Yes they have the best subs but have no consideration for their paying customers. They close whenever they want and don't update their hours on any media. Today they are closed for the day but no mention of that here. read more

Ordered a steak bomb. After a thorough search I found 1 mushroom. I've been eating here for about 30 years.Overall it's pretty good. The steak is so finely shredded you will need a tooth flosser. The good news! My dog really enjoyed most of the sub. read more

Came here onto lunch break for the first time. I ordered the chicken buffalo sandwich. For $12 I expected a lot of meat and they didn't disappoint, it was packed.Overall the buffalo flavor was there and i tasted a bit of the blue cheese I told them to add, I just wish it had more on top. read more

It's just hype. Went for lunch with my BF since we lived in Miami our whole lives and have yet to try Hungry bear. Not the best sub shop but average. He has a steak bomb which didn't have great flavor. I had chicken Caesar which was a chicken Caesar salad in between 2 breads. Both our breads tasted cold against what should be a warm sub. We have had these similar sandwiches at other sub places and expected the Hungry bear would have a better version since everyone says they're so amazing. It was alittle chaotic enetering trying to read the menu and ordering. There was no organized line which didn't really bother us but just a note. Only 2 benches to eat outside so we are at Miami dade. read more

A friend told about this hole in the wall sub shop that I should try. So I did and I fell in love with the honey mustard chicken sandwich with wheat bread. It's so delicious the honey mustard isn't overpowering it's loaded with chicken and made fresh to order. I always tell myself that I'm going to try a different sub but I just love it so much that I end up with with the same one! It's a lot food but it's worth it . The only bad thing is the parking is limited so I'd recommend getting there a little before lunch time before it gets super busy read more

Was very disappointed. Ordered a onion, cheese, and steak sub that was rather pricey. The meat was very bland, and it was practically the only thing in the sub. There were barely any onions or cheese. I had to ask for them to put more cheese on my sub, even then it wasn't a better sub after. Miami subs makes a much better cheesesteak in comparison. read more

Hungry bear is a historic place, I first heard of it as a student of Miami Dade College Kendall which is across the street. The subs are huge and can be easily split for two. I used to have teriyaki and bbq chicken but lately the best sauce has been the curry. The only thing I wish they did was toast the bread, but regardless their subs are delicious. read more

I have been going to hungry bear for over 15 years, the quality has not changed and the quantity of protein is still the same. You will definitely be full after eating only a half of a sub. Apparently it's possible to have a sign printed and posted on your storefront with temporary store hours, but it isn't possible to update that info anywhere online. Drove over 30 minutes just to find out they aren't open when their "website" (Facebook page), Apple Maps, Google maps, and Yelp all say they're open. This is an out of the way, odd little strip, I highly doubt most of their customers are just wandering by. This is the kind of place people seek out. They shouldn't have to waste their time to find out it's routinely closed when it shouldn't be. read more

I ordered the Philly Cheese with grilled onions and added banana peppers as well as their home made hot pepper sauce. Their meat was lacking seasoning and there was barely any provolone cheese. Though, the toppings more than made up for it. Their home made hot pepper sauce was incredible and really elevated what otherwise would have been an ok sandwich. This sandwich was every bit of 12 inches and cost around $14. Their toppings system works like Five Guys, in that you can get as many as you want and they don't charge you. Which is great. Meat needed a little more salt and pepper and would have been an easy 5 stars. Would recommend. read more

There are very few things left in this part of Kendall that remind me of home, but Hungry Bear delivers every time. It was great to see the owner still running the grill (likely has to do with Help Wanted sign out front too) and the place was moving just as fast as usual. My only disappointment is that I can't buy a shirt to take with me back to Atlanta! read more

If you're ever hungry for a really big sub for a good price, this place has been here forever and has always been consistent in providing you a feel good sub. They are huge so if you're hungry one is still enough. I have a steak bomb, it was a heavy meal but it tasted awesome , just wish it had more lettuce but that could requested as well. read more

UPDATE: 9/1/2020 Went back to Hungry Bear cuz reasons. And the experience this time was night and day from before. Staff was welcoming, and pleasant; which made me happy. I was sad before thinking my favorite sandwich shop had taken a wrong turn. Maybe that other time was just an off day but the tension that day was THICC. Anyway. The best subs you have ever had. I used to go there when I was in Miami Dade Community College back in 1997 and 1998. I always get the honey mustard chicken. I live in California now and everytime I visit Miami, I go and get some honey mustard chickens and fly them over. Yesterday I got 14 of them and brought back to California to share with friends and co workers. Every friend and coworker who tries this says it is the best sandwich/sub they have ever had. I get requests to bring some everytime I visit. From the 14 I bought yesterday and flew here, only one is left. The staff is amazing. You have to check this place out. Thank you Hungry Bear for one of the best services and best tasting food. Keep rocking! We wish you had a California and other locations as well. read more

Anyone who has lived in kendall must have hungry bear at least once in their life. It's become like a landmark here in kendall. A plus was it was next to my high school (killian). If you haven't gone here I promise you it won't disappoint. Try the classic honey mustard chicken. It doesn't look that great but man does it taste amazing. If you like subs this is the place to go! I love that their food is made to order and you can even go inside and watch how they prepare your delicious sandwich. It's a very small place so it can feel crowded very easily, but they have outdoor seating. read more

I stayed away from Hungry Bear for a long time because I once ordered a hot turkey sub and found it sad that they used deli turkey and heated it up. But I was too quick to judge. This place is solid. I mean, obviously...it's been around for years and years. It gets crazy crowded, because it's an itty bitty space, and if you go during peak hours, you'll leave with hungry bear sub smell all over your clothes as you wait for your sub to be made. It's OK though, their subs are delicious. My particular fav is an oldie but goodie: the tuna sub. It's probably the best tuna sub for miles and miles. Hungry Bear has been consistently producing the best subs ever for a long time. I've been coming for well over a decade and they never disappoint. My favorites have been the teriyaki steak, chicken teriyaki, and grilled veggie. The buffalo chicken is also very good, but messy. It's a hole in the wall and only has outdoor picnic table seating, so if the weather isn't good, you'll be taking your food to go. There's always plenty of parking on the street, though, and a ton of people working so service is quick even at peak times. read more
