Big Banh Mi fan, so excited when I saw the reviews and review count for this place. Stopped in with some friends from work to try. Overall - a solid sandwich here. I opted for no mayo (veganized) and added jalapeño. Good bread, packed with veggies and lots of grilled tofu. I'm going four stars instead of five as the tofu was a little salty. I am going to make a confession. I don't have any idea what authentic Vietnamese food is supposed to taste like. That being said, like all washingtonians i enjoy a bowl of hot pho during the 8 months of rain we have here in seattle. I recently stopped eating pho for a couple years because i was cutting back on msg. Insert huong duong. I read online they had NO MSG in their food. What little i did know about viet food is that they were heavy handed with the msg. I had to try this place! I was impressed with both their pho and the stir fried eggplant. The broth has a light refreshing tone to it and i never feel leaving heavy like i used to at other restaurants. The eggplant was tossed with mushrooms in a sweet savory sauce that was addicting. Delicious!! It is a one man show in the dining area, so be patient if you are dining in and don't be afraid to ask for something multiple times if the waiter forgets. In a city known for its pho, this place is my go-to and has been for years. Strangely, though, the pho is not my favorite thing here--it's two other things that distinguish the place. The first of those is the amazing selection of salads. Over the years I've gone here, I've taken many, many guests. We always get a salad, usually the lotus root with shrimp. All of them loved the salads and remarked positively on them. Some of the guests I've taken now go back to Huong Duong as well. For me, even if I'm dining alone here, I always get a salad. The lotus root, especially, is so crunchy and fresh. It's a dream. The second thing I'll mention is the service. I don't usually even like Yelp reviews that talk about service, but the service here is so good that I have to call it out. I started coming to this restaurant around 2012-2013, when Othello Station was still a pretty empty and slow part of town. In the years since then, I've visited only one time when the proprietor/manager wasn't working. I don't know his name, but he was one of the first merchants to adopt Square for payments in the area, his restaurant is always sparkling-clean, he smiles, and he's a great server. If I'm in the mood to talk, he'll talk. If I've had a long day and want to read, he gets that, too. I am always so glad to see that his restaurant has worked because he works so gosh darn hard for it. He bet on this area when it wasn't a great bet, and now he's reaping the rewards. And now we're back to the pho. Get the Sunflower deluxe pho. Add liberal amounts of sriracha to it. Enjoy. It's not some thin, nasty dishwater pho like you get at some of the chains. It's wonderful. Also good are the chicken pho and even the veggie pho, which is a true veggie pho and not just noodles and broth. Protip: the parking lot at this little shopping center gets super crowded. Take the street by Chase Bank and park near Iglesia ni Kristo behind the building. Or just take light rail since it's directly across the street from Othello Station. read more

We stopped by here yesterday after I got picked up from the airport on our way back to Seattle. I had bookmarked this spot and it was conveniently on our way home! Location: right next to the Othello Link stop, so if you take the train, it's an easy walk to it. It is located inside a small strip mall with it's own parking lot. We ordered: - 2 pc fresh spring roll - mango salad - small beef stew - sunflower vermicelli bowl - short rib plate - under $40 for everything We loved all the dishes but the beef stew was our least favorite. We thought it had a weird texture to the soup, but the beef in it was really good. This place had great prices for the dishes. I enjoyed my vermicelli bowl! Cody liked his short rib plate as well. I came here with a friend on a Wednesday for lunch! The place was half empty around 12:30pm and we got seated right away. I decided to get the Bun Bo Hue which was what they are known for. I got 2 star (out of 5) for spicyness. The soup was lemongrassy and flavor wise was okay - I thought it could have been more flavorful but maybe it's just cuz I didn't get the normal amount of spicyness? The cuts of meat they give you in it are also weird. They don't put the pig blood in (other places normally do) and their beef brisket was tough and thick. They had flavorless meat balls in there too with weird texture. Their noodles were good - I like how the bun bo hue noodles are thicker and chewier. But they are REALLY cheap - like a few dollars cheaper than other places in the area. Overall, this place is alright in terms of food and price! Service was fine, nothing out of the ordinary. There was one spot on the table that I was at that felt a little sticky which made me question the cleanliness of their restaurant. I wouldn't recommend this place, unless someone really needed a budget place to get Vietnamese soup noodles. read more

Fell in love at first bite! Huong Duong is my favorite Vietnamese food in Seattle! We came here for lunch and the place was pretty busy with many Vietnamese families dining in when we first walked in. However, soon after we arrived, all of the tables were filled, and the one employee taking orders and managing the floor was doing everything he could to fulfill orders and serve all the customers. He did a great job at that, too! For a place that suddenly became swamped on a Saturday with just him waiting on all the tables and a cook making all the orders, there was nothing to complain about. And the food was perfect. We started with the Mixed Salad with Shrimp and my boyfriend had the Beef Stew while I had the Spicy Lemongrass Noodle Soup. The Mixed Salad with Shrimp came with lotus, mango, papaya, daikon radish, basil, crushed peanuts, garlic and fresh shrimp. The combination of flavors had everything, from crunchy to tender, to sweet and sour. It was a wonderful salad that I would recommend starting with, as all of the ingredients were fresh and light! As for our entrees, we loved them! My boyfriend mentioned that it was one of the best beef stews he's ever had, and after trying some, I understood why. Beef was incredibly tender in a rich broth. My Spicy Lemongrass Noodle Soup though was amazing! I loved the different proteins you get with the soup, like the tendon, meatballs, tripe and flank in a super flavorful, lemongrass broth with red pepper flanks for that spicy kick! MMMMM HMMMM! I couldn't stop slurping and usually, it's hard for me to ever finish noodle soups, but this one had me practically licking the bottom of the bowl! So good! By the time we were finished, we both looked at each other and just knew that Huong Duong served us one of the best meals we've had in a long, long time! Just eat here already! Seriously! You may think when you arrive that the limited parking lot that Huong Duong has with its neighboring businesses is not worth the visit, but it certainly is! Yes, parking can be a bitch here, but this is a place you'll want to just suck up the parking sitch or Uber to for the amazing noodle soups found here! I don't usually come to this area much (and for good reason too), but this place definitely impressed the Vietnamese in me. Huong Duong is in a plaza so there is parking available. The inside has an interesting ambience: you can tell the owner's favorite color is yellow and that he/she is somewhat religious because of the religious quote on the wall. The waiter promptly took our order with his iPad, and we didn't have to wait that long for our food. I got a Bun Bo Hue and a Banh Xeo. Going in backwards order, the Banh Xeo was HUGE so it will definitely fill you up. The Bun Bo Hue here is a little different than other Vietnamese places. First, flavor is subtly different; not sure how to describe it. Second, there is no pork blood inside. And third, some fix its are not available. However, that doesn't mean I didn't like it; in fact, it was really GOOD! Very clean, flavorful, and reasonably portioned. The menu here is pretty expansive so I would come back for the other goodies. What should be duly noted, though, is that my friend got his car scraped by another driver when that person was trying to park in the plaza. Loved coming here! I dropped in at 30 min before closing on a weeknight and the staff was still super friendly. I was excited to see all the vegetarian-friendly options easily marked... and there were a surprising number of veg options! There were many options across salads, apps, entrees, noodles, and rice dishes to pick from. I hope to come back to try the grapefruit or lotus salad. Or even the beef salad when I go back to being an omnivore... I ordered the banh xeo (vietnamese crepe) with tofu & a small plate of mango salad. The salad came first, and was visually delightful - sticks of mangos and fried tofu rested on a bed of thinly shaved red cabbage, topped with bright green cilantro and fried shallots and crushed peanuts on the side. It was really refreshing. The banh xeo followed - eggy crepe filled with bean sprouts and fried tofu. The banh xeo was crisp and worked so well with the soft tofu. A note on the tofu for both the salad and crepe - it was so good! They fry it so the exterior isn't so hard and scrapes up your mouth. It's soft and custardy inside. Yum! Finished up with a dessert of "sweet sticky balls" - rice balls with mung bean filling floating in a gently gingery syrup. Finished with coconut milk and sesame seeds. Pretty tasty and filling. Altogether, pretty cheap eats - the whole meal was under $15! read more

This is my favorite pho restaurant by my house! I've only been here twice but both times, my meals was delicious! :3 The first time, I ordered the duck noodle soup and it came with a side salad. The salad had a strong taste to it with sauce on the side (to dip the duck in). The duck was really yummy and tender! I love the soup too! Mmm. The second time, I got the sunflower deluxe pho because I was craving some pho. That was delicious as well! Soup tasted healthy and authentic. They give a good amount of meat and toppings too. Huong Duong is such a unique Vietnamese restaurant. It offers the authentic flavors of Vietnamese food that you would find at a hole in the wall place in the International District, but appeals to a more diverse crowd with its clean space and use of quality ingredients. I've tried many of their menu items and have never been disappointed with my picks. My favorites include the short rib plate with the extra meat option, beef salad, sunflower bowl (signature vermicelli bowl), Vietnamese crepes (banh xeo), and their bun bo hue. Everything is always presented beautifully and tastes amazing. Of note, I have noticed that they don't completely stick to the classic recipes for some of the dishes. For example the bun bo hue comes with meat balls and an assortment of cuts of beef, whereas the classic dish will have pork blood cake and pork knuckles. I suppose this is their way of making their food appeal to a more diverse crowd. Nonetheless, the flavors of the broth are still very authentic. Also they do not use MSG in any of dishes. It is so inexpensive to eat here that sometimes I wonder how they're making enough profit. My boyfriend and I usually order an appetizer to share and two entrees and our bill comes out to around $22-$25 or so. They offer half portions on a lot of the items as well, so it's very cheap to try a new dish if you're feeling adventurous. I would highly recommend ordering a small salad with your meal, you'll be amazed at how colorful and appetizing their salads are. So glad we found this gem of a place that we can grab dinner at on the nights that cooking is just too much work. read more

We came here after seeing all the yelp reviews, but I hate to say that I was extremely disappointed in the food. I don't know what their speciality is, but with a name called Huong Duong, I was hoping for a decent pho, but what we got was water, noodle, and some beef. We also ordered the spring rolls which also came as a disappointment. The sauce was very runny and limey and I usually expect a thicker, more flavorful peanut sauce. The server was very kind so I really feel bad leaving a 1 star review, but with a restaurant that has 4.5 stars on yelp, I was really hoping a lot for this place and wound up getting possibly the worst pho I have ever had :( Parking here is also a nightmare. read more

We love going to and experiencing Mom and Pop restaurants. I had the Catfish in the claypot and I would say that it was pretty good. The restaurant is pretty clean, the workers are friendly and the food prices are great. If you can't find parking in the lot, I would suggest parking at the back. read more

I grew up eating tons of bun bo hue so when I saw it on the menu here I was very excited. But, soon my excitement was turned into disappointment. The BBH here was not spicy enough. There was not enough lemongrass to give good flavor and the meat was too over cooked. I had to at a lot a satay sauce to make it a little more flavorful. On the other hand, I really loved their che dau den. It was not too sweet and the addition of the ginger was perfect. BBH spice can be altered between 1-5 which I've never seen the option. Unfortunately, I had my kid so I couldn't comment more about how spicy it could be. The price is very cheap! BUT the portion is comparable to the price. A small is a small versus other places, you are more surprised about how much you are getting. I actually ate all the noodles and broth - and that never happens. Here's where the 2 Star comes in. It's in a very small cramped complex, barely ten parking spaces that are compact and people will park illegally where you could never get out. Luckily I was still eating until they left. Another thing to note is there were young teens that walked by the store and hit into the window - which cracked almost the entire thing. I am a regular here for their Pho. I order it at least once a month. It is the best pho in the area hands down, with exceptional service. I have never had a bad experience. Plus the portions are a great size compared to what i've seen at other restaurants. The parking lot is a little small/tricky to navigate but that's not their fault, just good to know when coming.
