This review's about a month overdue, but we came back again! We ordered almost the same things, except we did try the lobster truffle Mac n cheese and loved it. Taken care of by Romnick who was a delight to chat with and skillfully made our salad and dessert. Everything else was delicious and we were very satisfied!

Hooo bah If you're looking for an unforgettable steakhouse experience, Hy's is as high you can get. For our anniversary, I decided to order the $220 Wagyu steak. At that price, I was expecting a steak. What I got was a religious experience. The steak was so tender I think my knife was just there for emotional support. Every bite made me question every other steak I've ever eaten. Our server was an absolute hammah. He took his job to serious. When he explained the Wagyu, I felt like I was being entrusted with classified information. By the time he finished, I was afraid to even ask for steak sauce. I'm pretty sure if I had reached for ketchup, he'd wanna scrap. Just remember to bring a collard shirt and leave your Get Nuts shirt at home.

The experience here is amazing and a must! This is definitely a place to celebrate special occasions. We booked reservations in advance, you need to call or email in to make a reservation. We were initially seated in far back near the kitchen, but we kindly asked to move away since it was so noisy there. Our new seats were really nice. Ambiance is very high end, from the decor to the live music and the staff apparel. The staff are kind and multi talented. Your waiter/waitress will make about 40% of the food at your seat which is dope. They prepare the appetizers and desserts at your seat since it's all table side. The main entrees get made in the kitchen. I really loved this concept because it felt more like an intimate dinner experience. We ordered: Prix fixe menu $150 per person Came with your choice of table side appetizer - French Onion Soup 9/10 - Spinach egg bacon salad 9/10 - complimentary cheesy bread 9/10 Entrees - Cajun style prime rib w/baked potatoes 9.5/10 - Beef Wellington 9/10 Dessert - chocolate lovers ice cream sundae To know: - Good for groups - Email to make a reservation - Valet available $500 after tip for the entire meal Overall, this was an amazing experience and I would totally go back. Absolutely worth the price.

Always one of my favorite steakhouses for a special occasion. Their menu is pretty large with lots of steak options/specials/and enhancements. They also have a wide variety of starters including table side options for the caesar salad and warm spinach salad. We had the warm spinach salad which was yummy (as usual). We also had the seafood chowder and French onion soup and escargot. For mains I had the steak Oscar and boyfriend had the prime rib. Both came out how we wanted them prepared. Desert we shared the banana foster (I miss their cherries jubilee). Service was good- always refilling water and making sure we were satisfied with our food after first bites. Parking wise I believe is just valet.

There are several high quality steakhouses in Honolulu/Waikiki, but Hy's is easily the most elegant or upscale of them all, despite being windowless. With dark wood walls and oil paintings decorating throughout, it almost feels like you're in an old English Gentleman's Club from the turn of the century. The old world charm is amazing. Five stars for ambiance, easily. Also, five stars for service. They make you feel special. The staff are highly experienced and have been working at Hy's for years. Chris, our lead server, has been working there for 27 years! Amazing guy. Service 5 stars. Wife and I shared all our orders. We're Kupuna with small stomachs. Started with a Caprese Salad (excellent), followed by a 15oz Delmonico Ribeye Steak, with mash and assorted veggies, washed down with a glass of Cabernet. A couple cups of very good coffee with our Apple Flambé. I've enjoyed Steak at Signature, Wolfgang's, Ruth Chris, and Empire Steakhouse... while Hy's Delmonico Ribeye was okay, it didn't compare favorably to other Steakhouses in Waikiki. But, still 4 stars for the food. Had an excellent evening... thank you to the staff at Hy's. Super professional, top notch! Two glasses of red wine: $38 Caprese Salad $22 Delmonico Steak $96 Extra Plate Charge $10 (for sharing) Apple Flambé $25 Two cups of coffee $16 GET $9.75 Total $216.75 (not including tip)

Apparently this is Hy's 50th anniversary, and I hope they're around for another 50+ years! This was our first time here and we had a blast. They have some of the best customer service. We saw them setting up a table with leis and flowers for someone's special occasion. They even printed a custom note on our menu for our special occasion. See pic. We were celebrating my birthday and our new engagement. Thank you Tony, McKenzie, Ryan, and Kirby for making it a very memorable celebration. The decor was very nice and the food/ drinks were delicious. It's a little on the pricier side, but totally worth it for a special occasion. They also have complementary valet parking out front, so you don't have to deal with the hassle of finding/paying for parking in Waikiki.

OMG!!! Haven't been here in a while and this was a personal fave venue for decades! Mahalo to Tony (Assistant General Manager), Ariana (Director of Beverage), and Anakin (our server), chefs, staff, and valet, who came together and opened Hy's for a special meeting. They shared their newest menu options, which included a vegan pasta, fish piccata and flank steak. Salads were award winning, as was the trio of desserts (lilikoi crunch, chocolate decadence, and cheesecake, topped gold flakes, or with fruits and edible flowers! I had steak, of course, ahhh, and yum, the memories! Colleagues who had the vegan pasta said it was awesome, and I was too far away from the fish piccata to know, but I'm sure it was delish! This event allowed the members of MSRH to learn more from the American Heart Association, their community programs and their fundraisers, such as the Heart Ball and Heart Walk, which fund the many services they provide our Hawai'i Ohana. Did you know they have a third party venue relationship with Solera and Quiora with many options for dinner parties of any size, indoor and out, as well as private and semi private rooms? Check out their website for more info! The private room where we had programs in the past is now a lobby, and the one we enjoyed our meeting in is fully private, well appointed, and has a mini service station in the room. There's also a tv screen with computer adaptability if you need to project a power point from your laptop. FYI You'll have to navigate two short steps of stairs, and they do have solid handrails to help you get there. Two sliding doors allow staff to enter discreetly if you have a speaker program, and the "emergency exit" slows with restroom access! Just remember to push down on the door "stopper" so you can return. (Be on good behavior, as the restroom is shared in the hotel lobby, with other guests who may be present in the lobby lounge.) The food, service, and decor remain classic Hy's, and rest assured we'll be back!!!

    Birthday celebration dinner
    Dion B.

Great experience for a birthday celebration, they blew us away by just a simple "happy birthday" from Ali the bartender as we waited for the rest of our party...little touches like that happened all night and made it a special evening, thank you Hy's team! It ended with a desert plate with birthday candle, no loud obnoxious singing, just an elegant way to end the evening and acknowledge the birthday girls day! We did pay in advance for that celebration, and even moved the reservation a day earlier and only about 3-4 hours before, not sure they can always accommodate that late of a change and still pull off all the birthday touches, but they did for us and left us truly impressed, impeccable service. Inside the decor at the bar is from an 1800's estate in Pennsylvania, and Hy's even makes a nod to Delmonico's with a ribeye named after them. Having eaten at Delmonico's in Manhattan, they achieved the same level of service and food was great as well. Do not be dissuaded by the entrance from the street, it is in an older hotel/building and initial looks are not great, but step inside and you are transported to a truly great evening of elegance, food and service.

We celebrated my hubby's birthday at Hy's Steakhouse and loved the intimate ambiance with its dark wood accents, bookshelves, and classic paintings. We started the evening with their cheese bread, drinks, and a fresh seafood tower featuring poke, oysters, shrimp, snow crab, and lobster. For our main course, we shared a juicy 15 oz. Delmonico steak along with the rich truffled crab mac and cheese. Since my hubby is a big chocolate fan, we ended dinner with the Chocolate Lover tableside flambé served with vanilla ice cream. The food and service was excellent throughout the evening.

My favorite fine dining restaurant and steak house! Great food, outstanding service, nice ambiance. Prices are a little high but that's what you expect from a fine dining restaurant. No need to worry about parking, your car will be taken care of by a valet. My starter is usually always French Onion Soup and entree is their Prime Rib with baked potato. I love creme brulee but most times we'll have one of their flambé that's done at your table. Hy's do have a dress code so if you're in doubt on what to wear, I suggest you give them a call. I'm always happy when I leave there and it's always a treat for your wife, spouse or significant other.

My boyfriend took me here for our anniversary and it was such a wonderful dinner! We ordered the crab cake and table side caesar salad as our starters. The crab cake was savory with delicious sauces on top. We were a bit surprised that it only came with one, especially since it was around $30 too but I guess that's fine dining portions haha. It was my first time seeing a Caesar salad being made table side so I thought it was cool to see and the salad was really good! For our entrees, I got the garlic steak and my boyfriend got the steak Oscar. We both enjoyed our dishes and the steak was cooked to our liking! We also got a side of the truffle king crab and mac and cheese and that was so creamy and delicious! For dessert, we ordered the bananas foster and it had a nice presentation when it was made! It was so yummy and paired really well with the vanilla ice cream. They also gave us a chocolate cake type of dessert too since it was our anniversary, and that tasted great as well. Our server was friendly and personable and always checked up on us. The ambiance is pretty fancy with dim lighting, so it's perfect for a special occasion.

Hy's Steak House Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Hy's Steak House

Is there a corkage fee? What is it?

My deepest apology. As I have quit drinking for couple of decades, I do not know of any corkage fee at Hy's. But calling and asking shouldn't be a problem. The people are very accommodating.

Look forward to dining at HY's. Is there a specific dress code?

Absolutely! Men collar shirt and slacks. Ladies dress or skirt and blouse. No swim attire they will deny you at the door.

I have a Hy's gift certificate. Can I use it at the pop-up location?

    Is Hy's still in business?

Yes. They are currently doing renovations. However, they do have a "pop up restaurant" at their sister property at the Ritz Carlton in Waikiki.

    What are the hours?

    5pm - 9pm

Do you have a high chair for a toddler?

Yes, we have highchairs for the little ones.

Is there room for a baby stroller to park next to a dinner table?

Yes, provided we are notified when the reservation is made, we can plan for it. Thank you for asking.

Dress code for gents? I didn't plan on taking pants. I do have nicer khaki shorts, I'd usually go golfing in or an upscale casual happy hour. Guess, I need to pack pants?

I'm pretty sure shorts is ok. Only covered shoes and collared shirts are required for the men. And No swimwear. They will provide a blazer if a guy does not have a collared shirt on. So your golf outfit should be fine!

    Where do you park?

Use their Valet Parking. No self parking on-site. Just tip the valet guys.

What are the dresses codes for women?

Dresses are welcome. Evening wear is encouraged

Are kids allowed, do you have a kids menu?

Yes. Kids are welcome. We have two both under the age of 10. There was a Children's menu upon request. There was another family with young children too while we dined, but it is less common.

How much is the seafood tower?

    Do you welcome unvaccinated guests?

As of September 13, 2021 All restaurants, Gyms, Bars, etc. you will need to show a Covid Vaccine Card & an ID to enter.

Hi! I see that you offer a kid's menu. What are the menu items and their respective costs? Mahalo!

Aloha Penina, Our children's menu has the following items:…

I'd like to make reservations for Wednesday 6/2 at 7pm. It would be 3 of us total. Can someone please help? thanks.

Hi Patricia. We currently have no reservations available until June 14. I realize that’s a long way off but please call Hy’s, 808-922-5555 tomorrow to speak with us directly.…

Can I pls make reservation at 845-9pm tomorrow? My daughter is having graduation ceremony tomorrow night. Party of 3 downstairs with a booth by the library pls. It said you close at 930pm. What time do we have to leave? Thanks…

Hi Tinna Can I have your full name and best contact phone number please? I have 3 of you booked at…

Do they have a kids menu? I have a 12 year old. He loves chicken tenders and fries

Yes they do ... I'll post it to the Yelp site !

How far in advance shall I put in a reservation?

Aloha Stasia, For holidays, we highly recommend booking your reservation with us months 1-2 months in advance. For a regular booking, we recommend booking at minimum 7 days…

    Is there a kids menu?

    Yes! Burger and Fries…

Are the steaks dry-aged and if so, for how long?

I don't recall it being dry aged. They don't advertise that as a selling point. Try and call them. Also, in regard to the other answer, my personal opinion is it's Wagyu and not Kobe (A5 -7/8)

The third time ( this time ) we added another different menu. The more we come, the more we can try new menu and enjoy new tastes. Honestly El Cielo, all menu we tried even wine and draft beers, were top class, I love to nominate as the best restaurant in Hawaii. I am so glad I found the great restaurant, I was seeking for. Prices were not bad, as inflation everything costs are so expensive nowadays. Everywhere!! Their services are great too. If I live close by I would go El Cielo once or twice a week. Thank you so much. I will love to come back soon again.

Better than I expected.... Waikiki? I expected it to be expensive, touristy and overhyped. And yes,…read moreit is pricey and touristy. But the food is solidly good... I really enjoyed the octopus. Not too soft. It came with a nice chew and sat on a bed of thinly sliced potatoes. I could've eaten the whole dish by myself...No sharing next time. The egg custard was light, with a hint of bacon flavor. It was served in the shell in a high heeled shoe dish. So cute! The entrées were a bit of a different story... I ordered the pork shoulder at first and the waiter recommended it be done, medium rare. I have to say I am no longer a fan of bloody meat so I asked for it to be done medium. Honestly, it arrived and to my palate was a bit tasteless.... given that it was almost $60 I thought twice but was encouraged to send it back. The waiter was accommodating and I ordered the lamb chops instead. Two thick sliced lamb chops arrived about 15 minutes later and were a perfect medium served on a bed of potato and sweet potato. I really enjoyed this.... I like my lamb chops usually grilled, juicy and fatty. These were refined, trimmed of the fat and beautifully plated. I'd like to try the paella next time and more of the appetizers. Really good choice of fancy little cocktails also. I would reserve the back room for sure next time. That room has high ceilings and feels elevated. The front room where we sat was OK. I'd also opt for the outside seating area on a breezy evening... Otherwise it can be rather humid in the summer. Overall, excellent service and delicious food offerings. A bit pricey to be expected given the area.

We received a warm welcome, and brought over to our booth where our server Kai was quick to greet us. We ordered cocktails (I don't remember the name of mine. It's something spritz, and my husband tried the banana bread old fashioned) and we shared the appetizer platter (brussel sprouts with pork belly, kalua pork egg rolls, poke tacos, and edamame)to share. We also ordered the garlic shrimp dumplings. Everything was super tasty. Lots of other items on the menu that I want to try during another visit to the island.

Stressful from the start…read more I called to inquire about parking a week prior to my rsv and was told they were sold out for the night. I mentioned that it was just a general question and i wasn't coming that night. They informed me that it's validated for two hours and it's first come first serve. After the 2 hours its $14 an hour. Getting into the valet area was stressful enough as there was a car parked right before you turn and pedestrians that walk back and forth from their main driveway entrance. I also had to wait for valet for a bit too as there was 2 other cars in front of me and probably only 2 valet on duty trying to move cars forward. Reservations can be made on open table, but there was really no point to doing that since it's open seating during happy hour times. We ended up just picking a table that was in the shade, and noticed they only have their menu by QR code which is kinda annoying. The server was pretty nice tho and he brought my dog some water mid way. Their happy hour runs from 2-6 and the menu is slightly less expensive. The food was kind of standard hotel type of food and nothing really stood out. Otherwise the vibes at the restaurant was nice and i do like that they allow dogs to join you. it seems like they have live music after a certain time. I was even more annoyed and stressed with the valet when i went to pick up my car. They literally just handed me my keys. My car was parked along the wall probably 20 steps away, but they could have at least taken out my car cause it was so hard to get out, but i guess it's nice they trust that i wont bang the car in front of back of me i guess even tho im a pretty terrible parker. at the time they didn't look as busy as when i first arrived, so i dont know why they couldn't have just done the bare minimum with just pulling out my car from the stall.

The wines selected for us were superb, along with the high-quality food served to accompany them. I was genuinely surprised to discover such a wonderful gem right there inside the market. Gino and the entire staff were warm, knowledgeable, and very attentive to all of the patrons. They made us feel so welcome, and we truly appreciated the wonderful service and hospitality. Even though we live on Hawaiʻi Island, we will definitely be back the next time we are on Oʻahu. Highly recommended!

Quite a bit of parties around us were partaking in this. Though a friend of mine didn't want to drink a whole bottle by herself, she tried a glass of Rosé from France which she stated was very delicious. I on the other hand had asked for a non-alcoholic option. Unfortunately, they ran out of ginger beer, all the sparkler options, and didn't serve any soda. The bartender looked pretty irritated by that point, and didn't even provide me with a glass of water. We would've grabbed a bunch of food to compensate for taking up a seat, but by then, the bartender had already dropped the check, and we hadn't even sat there for more than 5 minutes. The most interesting part was that an older couple sat next to us, similar situation. The gentleman asked for a glass of wine, and his wife asked for a non-alcoholic beverage. Though a different bartender came back with a sparkler option for her. Needless to say, I felt pushed aside and I don't believe I'll be back to this location any time soon. The only reason I didn't give this review a 1-2 star is that I recognize that Abe is busting his butt there. He was floating back and forth between this bar and Eleven. Separate review with my direct encounter with Abe at Eleven forthcoming.

We stopped in during their happy hour from 3-5 PM, and it immediately stood out as an ideal after-work pau hana or easy date-night spot. The space is relaxed and inviting, with a calm, tucked-away feel that makes you forget you're inside a hotel. The happy hour menu is impressively priced, with starters beginning at just $6, yet everything feels thoughtfully prepared and elevated. Highlights included the toasted bread with sun-dried tomato pistou -- warm, crisp toast paired with a deeply savory, herbaceous spread that's simple but incredibly satisfying. The mini poke bowl was fresh and well-balanced, showcasing clean flavors and quality fish without being overly heavy. The fish tacos delivered exactly what you want: crispy island fish, bright flavors, and a great balance of texture. We also tried the fish and chips, featuring lightly fried island fish, hot fries, and a creamy house remoulade that tied the dish together beautifully. The standout for us was the empanadas -- flaky, crisp pastry filled with tender braised beef and potato, finished with a bold aji rojo sauce that added just the right amount of depth and gentle heat. Service was friendly and attentive without feeling rushed, and the overall vibe made it easy to relax and enjoy the experience. Whether you're looking for a low-key happy hour, a casual date spot, or a place to unwind after work, this is a hidden gem worth seeking out. Pro tip: Arrive early for happy hour -- once more people discover this spot, it won't stay quiet for long.

The cafe had a nice inviting feel that extended towards the back, the ambiance was dark and chic. The cafe was adorned with Halloween motif. We placed our orders at the counter which was towards the front section and our food were served at our table. I chose the Spinach Mushroom Goat Cheese Omelette and Lemonade for my drink. That homemade lemonade was so refreshing and delicious! Loved the delicious spinach and mushroom in my omelet. Hubby ordered a classic breakfast of Two Eggs w/ Bacon and Roasted Potatoes... wow! the bacon was crispy and yummy and just how I like my bacon cooked. He gave me 2-pieces, maybe because he saw me drooling over it LoL! but I'm telling you, Therese's Wagyu Cheeseburger on Brioche with French Fries looked mighty yummy too! Thank you, Terry, for inviting us to join you for a Sunday brunch. We had a wonderful first time dining experience here with good food and company! Review #3585

They only serve natural wines, which made everything feel really intentional and thoughtfully chosen. We had a Pinot Noir, a super funky orange wine that was honestly really cool to try, and Coenobium -- a beautiful white wine made by nuns. At one point, a bottle of red wine was opened and poured as a little salute for the room -- a simple, unexpected moment that was really wholesome. For food, we shared the venison pâté with bread and a Caprese salad -- simple, but done so well and paired perfectly with everything. It wasn't just about what we had, but how the whole experience came together. There's something really special about what they're creating there. We are already planning our next visit!

Will definitely be back as they routinely add new wines to the menu throughout the month. The food menu is limited especially if you aren't a big meat eater but there's something for everyone. Low intervention and organic wines with such great range from light and bubbly to heavy with tons of body. Come for the wine and make friends with the staff and others around the bar. The setting is intimate so get comfy.
