I have heard good things about it so I thought that I would try it. I went on a Sunday and it was pretty empty. The atmosphere was very nice and the service was excellent. I ordered a hamburger and fries. The food looked awesome when it came out. The burger was good but the burger itself was a little on the tough side and could of been seasoned. The cheese and toasted bun was good. The french fries were way over done which disappointed me. They should not of left the kitchen like that. With a drink it was fifteen dollars before tip. This may sound crazy, as this isn't the kind of place a food and restaurant enthusiast would typically go for, but HyVee's Market Grille in Mission, KS, has a lot going for it! The hours are great (Sun-Thurs 6 AM-10 PM, Fri-Sat 6 AM-11 PM), especially for someone who likes to eat at odd (and all) hours! It is clean, attractive, and more upscale than I would have expected, with tables that can be put together for groups, and very comfortable booths, several of which will easily accommodate 6 people with no crowding. There are several large TV screens, but no annoying sound (at least not when I was there), just CC. You can order online for carryout. The menu is more extensive, varied AND tempting than I expected (https://www.hy-veemarketgrille.com/store/), prices are very reasonable, the wait staff was excellent (friendly, just attentive enough, knowledgeable...or quickly got answers if they didn't know something...and helpful with menu selections), and the daily specials are really good deals...for example... On one of my spur-of-the-moment trips to the grocery store for "one last thing" for a recipe, a sign inside the doors caught (grabbed) my eye: "1/2 Price Sushi and 1/2 Price Bottles of Select Wine" (dine-in only). Sign me up! I got two sushi rolls (10 pieces each, Tuna & California) for $8, and both were quite good. And because it was also Happy Hour, I almost added an appetizer because some were, for some reason, 1/2 price, but hey, it was only me! I was sorely tempted by the dessert menu too, and I am really picky about desserts. They have a full, well-stocked bar, and at Happy Hour (2-6 PM daily), you get $2 draft beers, $3 craft beer bottles, $4 mixed drinks, $5 glasses of wine, and $6 flatbread pizzas. So, I COULD have added an entire flatbread pizza and a glass of wine to my sushi order, and still have gotten out of there for just $19 (before tip)! They COULD have just rolled me to my car, too! Even though I checked the "$11-$30" price range on the review, each person could easily eat there for less than $10 with specials and Happy Hours. I talked with a couple in the next booth who had eaten there several times, and said it was consistently good. They especially recommended the buffet (11 AM-8 PM daily), where you select from all the offerings in HyVee's open-window fresh-food displays inside the store area (American, Italian, and Asian cuisines), as well as from the self-serve salad and dessert bar. I will not waste much time on this review. We've eaten here a half dozen times, but it has been awhile since our last visit. The kids begged, we had soccer practice, I caved. This was the worst food, with the worst price. I picked at my $12 burger without saying a word, until I noticed the kids were also not eating. I tried their chicken strips and they were disgusting. Everything was old, greasy and lacking of decent flavor. Not sure what happened here, this actually used to be surprisingly good food. Always time consuming, but worth the wait. My whole review can be summed up in one word: meh. In the past we've enjoyed our food here and this is the only reason I'm giving them 2 stars. They've been steadily going downhill for awhile now. After tonight's meal I don't think we'll be back. This location has recently converted to a Market Grille Express. You now order at a counter outside of the restaurant. The menu has been condensed from when this place was a full service restaurant. (Ignore the older menu photos you see for this location. They are no longer accurate.) After placing your order you enter the restaurant and fill your drinks and grab your napkins and silverware. They give you a number to place on your table so they know where to bring your order, but after that you really won't see any servers again. The bar is still there, so they still have alcohol. The food tonight was mediocre at best. I had the Rueben and my husband had a patty melt, both served with fries. The sandwiches were both over toasted. Not burned, but just extra crunchy and surprisingly flavorless. There wasn't much meat on the sandwich, which was okay because it was too salty and greasy. The fries were overly brown like they were overdone, but they weren't crispy at all. So glad we didn't waste money on an appetizer tonight. Honestly any fast food restaurant would have been a better and cheaper option for dinner tonight. So, there's got to be something good about this place right? It can't all be negative. The staff was friendly during our brief interactions with them. The place is clean and I've always liked the look of the Market Grilles. It's also nice they are located in HyVee. We go to this Hyvee a lot for meals. Their Chinese section is very good and their salad bar has a decent variety of fruits, vegetables, meats and side salads. Their breakfasts are reasonable too. Sometimes the Market Grille items like fries, onion rings etc are a bit greasy sometimes. They have some creative appetizers--we enjoyed or pizza pinwheels, lettuce wraps and Asian style tacos. They have a brunch on Sundays that looks nice as well but i have net tried that. The best thing though...Sunday morning $3.00 Bloody Mary's...they will make them for you or they give you the glass/Voldka and you fill it with tomato juice and a variety of garnishes...celery, peppers, lemon wedges, bacon, olives...a perfect way to start your trip to the grocery! read more

With time he will be a top notch server. We all ate at the buffet and it has a larger variety of options ... pizza, Chinese, sushi, home cooked, soup bar, and even the salad bar. What a terrible experience! There were 7 of us in our party that decide to celebrate a birthday and give Market Grille a try. The wait staff had no clue how to wait tables. There wasn't a single order of food that came out correct. People were either missing sides or had the wrong sides. You want another drink? You better flag someone down or it won't happen. What's sad is the "manager" seemed to be good at managing people but didn't have much restaurant experience either. Market Grille in Raytown Missouri is a new concept that is coming into several of the local HyVee grocery stores. It is situated in a remodeled area that used to provide seating for customers to carry the salads, sandwiches, entrees and breakfast items bought from the deli and the Italian, Chinese or to-go sushi counters in the store. The Market Grille area has now been closed in with glass walls, a full service bar installed and all the booths and tables upgraded to a more upscale level of comfort. And with more attractive light fixtures and window blinds and fresh paint. With a sound system playing contemporary sounds, several big screen TVs playing mostly sports channels and a pleasant, friendly waitstaff, once you are seated, you pretty much forget that you had to enter through the automatic double doors, stroll through the aisles of the store (past the flower department, the various deli counters and the edge of the produce department) to reach the entrance to the restaurant. Now for the food. It's a rather eclectic menu and includes everything from Sandwiches to Steaks. There are also choices of Pasta, Sushi and even some Pizzas. Plus Seafood, Chicken and a nice selection of dinner-sized Salads. Oh and did I mention Appetizers? Well Hubby & I can vouch that the Chicken Quesadilla appetizer is very tasty. And on Thursday the Daily Special is two Sandwiches from the menu for $20 along with a choice of four of the appetizers and slight up-changes for most of the rest of the appetizers on the menu. There IS a different Daily special for every day of the week including Saturday and Sunday. A nice feature of the menu is that the calories are included on all the menu items and there are about a dozen selections that come in under 600 calories. Hubby & I both zeroed in on getting a Monte Cristo Club. Market Grille's version is a double stack of house-smoked turkey and ham with crisp bacon, Parmesan mayo, Pepper Jack Cheese, lettuce and tomatoes on grilled egg-dipped sourdough bread. And served with Spiced Apple Jam. All the sandwiches are served with choice of one side. So hubby ordered Sweet potato fries while I got fresh steamed Broccoli. Half of our sandwich was all each of us could manage so we brought home the leftovers for later. Service was very professional and wait staff didn't remain exclusive to only their own customers, but kept our water glasses refilled and checked to be sure we had everything we needed. Prices are moderate, ambiance is casual, but nice, and overall, it's an interesting concept. Whether it will be successful will depend on bringing in repeat customers and, for Hubby & me, that is all about the quality of the various dishes that we order in the next few visits. Hyvee offers a nice variety of food options, I have tried their pizza, Chinese, fried chicken dinners, and sushi Pizza: it's good pizza, not "omg that's the best pizza I have ever tasted." But if you're in a hurry like I was and dint feel like cooking after grocery shopping, it's a nice add on. Chinese: the food was disgusting, they had a special where you would buy a dinner and get the second for free, I ended up throwing them both away. Fried chicken: Yes please!!!! Stick to this and you won't be disappointed. They offer regular and spicy fried chicken dinners, they have several side options and give you a potato roll. The price is reasonable. The food is VERY bland. I got the Dinner for One Asian meal. The lo mein tasted like fettucine noodles with canola oil. The generals chicken just tasted a little sweet. The egg drop soup tasted like water...literally. I added salt, pepper, and garlic salt which helped a little. My sister got the mac n cheese burger which is just a bottom bun, VERY under cooked patty, and a large helping of mac n cheese on top. Her sweet potato fries were extremely soggy. Wow just Wow. I went to market grill for breakfast. I ordered the ham platter which featured 2 ham steaks, 2 eggs hash browns and pancakes. After about 30 min he came out and said "it is coming out guys sorry about the wait." Then after about 15 min he came back out and said "it is almost ready guys sorry about the wait". The thing is we were the only people there up until this point. About 10 min later he brought out part of my food then 2 or 3 min later he brought out part of my husbands food and said the rest is on its way guys oh and our waffle machine is down can we get you pancakes or French toast we won't charge you extra". I said I like to eat my food all at once so I hope it is soon because I don't want part of my food to be cold waiting for the rest." Then the lights went out 10 min later I went and told him we had wasted enough time waiting to eat so please refund my money so I can go somewhere else for breakfast. Good thing I didn't have a time restraint. The food he brought out the potatoes were swimming in grease, salty and raw. The eggs although they looked to be cooked over med as I requested were also swimming in grease. I have been to market grill before and it was decent. This time was unbelievable horrible experience. He was very apologetic and indeed did refund our money. I don't know what went wrong but something definitely did. read more

Okay, update: We ended up here, for the first time since our initial visit close to their grand opening, tonight. I noted way back, over a year ago, that the serving had some wrinkles, which I hoped would smooth out over time. Well, not convinced. Tonight was an absurdly long wait, to be honest. Everyone was very pleasant, but, man. It was busy enough, but not so busy as to swamp your average waitstaff. I felt that we were waiting a really long time for anybody to come and help us after we were seated...and,as we had two small children, you notice (with dread) the passage of time, because you know you're on a ticking time clock with small kids, as to how long you have to get in and out before hitting the end-of-the-attention-span barrier. Actually, my two-year old did very well, despite the lengthy wait for, well, everything. The baby did wind up needing to nurse, even though I'd timed her feeding so that shouldn't have been necessary,but was. Then, after we did order, it was a REALLY long time to get our food...two simple sandwich orders and a bowl of mac and cheese for the toddler. We had thought, "Will grab a relatively quick bite before running through the grocery store," and had walked with the kids in a stroller, assuming we'd be walking back home before dark. But we were in the restaurant alone for over an hour, and ended up walking back in the dark. It wasn't just us, either. We had been there maybe twenty minutes, and had gotten our soft drink orders filled, and juuust gotten our meal order taken. A couple came in and were seated adjacent to us. They sat...and sat...and sat...and sat. Eventually, they got up and left, as it became apparent they weren't going to be waited on. I can only assume they said something to the hostess on their way out, because she then started making the rounds asking everyone how their experience was. The food? Gotta say...it was really good. I had their Hawaiian burger, and I'd get it again. Husband had the buffalo chicken sandwich. Portions were a bit small, though, for the price. I did consider getting one of the flatbread pizza things, but suspected they were a relatively small portion, for ten-ish bucks. I also considered the Alfredo, but without any add-ins (just noodles and sauce), it was also like ten bucks, and two bucks extra for adding broccoli. My husband subbed in broccoli for fries with his sandwich, and got seriously four florets, so I'm skeptical that the amount they'd have added to the fettucini noodles would have been worth an extra two dollars. I hate to sound nickel and dimey, but it's a slight bit pricier than the equivalent fast casual chain, for smaller portions. I have found the food to be quality, but the pricing seems a tad steep for what it is. And, really, I might not be so nitpicky on the pricing if the service weren't soooo very slooooooow. Came in for Sunday brunch buffet. Terrible service and the most confusing buffet setup ever. Save yourself some disappointment and drive 10 more minutes to another hyvee or any other place. You have to choose between the grand buffet ($12.99) and the brunch buffet ($17.99). Never may the two cross. Most employees don't even know what is really included in the grand buffet. The brunch buffet is restricted to about 7 silver covers and an omelet station. Every other Hyvee Market Grill has the brunch buffet inclusive of all of what is offered, especially for that price. I asked about it... "Each store manager handles the buffet differently" I feel like this means the store manager is cheap and doesn't care for the restaurant side. As for the service, there are 4 servers, bartender and manager here. I can hear one of them whining in the back as I type this. Only one male server appears to be actually working, and he is not good. I wasn't even able to get refills or pay for my check in a timely manner. He walked by the table 3 times before he realized we needed anything. Couldn't get his attention at all. It wasn't because he was busy because this place is a ghost town. read more

Used to love eating breakfast at HyVee because it was fast and cheap. But since they changed to a Market Grille, I won't go back. The food was the same but now we get to pay for the candle light dinner ambience. It's an upscale bar in a grocery store! They now have wait staff so you get to tip someone. I requested cranberry juice at breakfast and it took forever because the bar was locked and the waitress couldn't get to it. I said never mind and changed to coffee. They never brought me coffee but 20 min later they brought me the cranberry juice because someone unlocked the bar. Sheesh, I just wanted a weekend quick cheap breakfast. I was looking for some Southwest Egg Rolls in the freezer section, and there was someone right there too assist me with my search. Very disappointed. We are eating here tonight because of curiosity and some coupons we received in the mail. My first impression is negative. The ordering process is strange. You order food at a pay station outside of the restaurant itself. The menu is not very extensive and is mostly all day breakfast with some burgers. You can get deli food or salad bar, but the process is clunky and the pay station attendant doesn't really seem to have any answers. I went to the bar to get a beer, paid cash, and the bartender had to go get a key to open the register and give me change. When they brought our food, I realized there was no silverware, and we had to get up and get our own. The food was acceptable. But the English muffin that came as a side to my breakfast skillet wasn't toasted. Talking to other customers, I learned that up until 2 weeks ago, this was a full-service restaurant. We ended up coming here to watch the KU basketball game since every bar around was packed. We were very happy that they had plenty of room and big T.V's. The layout of this place is kind of weird, I was disappointed that they are now an "express" so the large menu I've seen in the past that seemed to have a little bit of everything was gone. You have to order outside the restaurant in the grocery store, just kind of awkward. I ordered the all you can eat wing buffet for $10, can't beat the price and the wings were pretty good. I came later than my group so I was at the table waiting for a server to take my drink order until one of my friends told me you have to go up to the bar. The fact that you don't have a server to even take a drink order is odd, you'd think the employees that work there would at least want to do that so they can make some tip money. They only take your name at the bar when you start a tab, they don't swipe your card when you start a tab or keep your card behind the bar to ensure there will be payment. The entire time we thought how easy it would be to walk out and not pay without anyone noticing. We would never do that but I'm sure others might try it, they might consider changing the process. The staff were friendly but seemed overwhelmed, the place wasn't even that busy but you can tell they are not used to any type of crowd. Got annoying after the fourth or fifth time they tried to take our bucket of beer that still had our beers in it. This is a good place to watch games if you're in a bind, I'd consider coming back for that reason. Otherwise I'll more than likely stick to full service restaurants. read more

I have eaten at the Mission Gill at least twice a week since they opened. I have recommended it to everyone. NO LONGER AFTER DINNER LAST NIGHT USING THEIR NEW EXPRESS GRILL!!!! No service you have to get your own silverware, your own mustered, etc. When im go out to eat i am LOOKING FOR A FULL SERVICE LOCATION, like the market grill use to be. 8-10 couples walked out last night because of the new format. so this is a cool concept but the service we received tonight was horrible. I've been a waitress, I know the game; and I understand being short staffed. Our waitress didn't mention so until the end after she forgot our drinks twice, brought the spinach artichoke dip out 1 minute before we got our food that we waited 50 minutes for. my friends food was cold. He asked what could be done about it, and she said it was going to take 45 more mins to cook mac & cheese (like what! Are u serious) Mine was warm, but delicious. I had to remind her multiple times to refill my water. Had to remind her twice to bring a box to go. as a waitress, a part of your job is to remember your guests needs, & it's something she completely lacks.
