This place has been a favorite of mine for sushi since I first moved to Denton. Although we typically get takeout from here, on this particular occasion we decided to dine-in. The people that work here are beyond friendly. You'll be hard pressed to enter this restaurant without being greeted with a genuine smile. The atmosphere is warm and cozy, and much more on the quiet side. They usually have music playing but it's not at all loud or distracting. I particularly love the globe lighting that hangs over the tables. I think it goes great with the rest of the themed decor and really sets the mood. My favorite sushi roll here is the Louisiana Roll, but this night I went with the spicy crab roll. I've had this roll before from here, and I usually like trying different rolls, but at the time I was having a real hankering for the spicy crab sauce! It goes perfectly with the crabmeat. This restaurant is obviously known for their sushi, but their other entrees are also delicious. Ariel ordered the chicken teriyaki dinner combination. This was an enormous combo that came with really good fried rice and golden and crispy vegetable tempura. The miso soup and California rolls that were included tasted delicious as well. We simply enjoyed everything. It's really fun going there and just trying all the different rolls they have to offer, but don't forget to try the other tasty stuff like the dinner combinations or even the Monkey Brains! read more

I have been dying to try this place for several years. I appreciate that their online menu shows their prices so you know what to expect. I've always wanted to get one of their lunch specials but am never back in town by 3pm on a weekday and my husband isn't a sushi fan. However tonight the stars aligned and we went for the first time. Saturday night, arrived at 6pm and it was fairly empty. We were immediately greeted and led to a table by Yvonne. She was amazing. Everyone was very courteous, she was extremely attentive always asking if we had any questions. The place is warm and inviting. It's cluttered with all kinds of decor but in a cute way that didn't bother me at all. They began filling up quickly but had plenty of staff to handle it. Big plus for me is the bathroom fixtures were spotless and they had a lovely table and hooks so you had a place to put your purse and sweater. A lot of places don't have either which can be a pain. The food came quickly, we were probably there about 40 min total and definitely were not rushing. We each got a soda, the cups were large and we never needed a refill. We got the chicken yakitori app which was tasty but a little difficult to eat without creating a mess. My husband got the chicken yaki soba which he liked and Asian food isn't his thing. There were way too many mushrooms for his taste but they were easily removable. I got the beef teriyaki dinner combination. The portion was HUGE, well worth $15.95. Everything tasted great but it was easily 2-3 meals so I took most of it to go and ordered an extra side of rice to flesh out the left overs as I'm used to steamed rice as a good portion of a meal. Great California roll and shrimp tempura as well. I decided on a spider roll but had no idea how ENORMOUS the specialty rolls were. I had a difficult time eating it without creating a mess because it was too big for one bite. In comparison to my California roll this was almost 3 times the diameter and I had to break out the fork to cut down my second piece. The crab in the spider roll was delicious. As I packed up my very heavy to go containers I was embarrassed at how greedy I must look with all this food! I guess I was expecting a slightly large bento box portion and a roll half that size. I would recomend coming with an adventurous eater so you can split rolls or even meals and keep the cost down. This was date night and I was expecting a $50 tab but if I had educated myself on the portion sizes I would have still been full for $30. Of course it was more because Yvonne earned a big tip but what we got was worth every penny and I love left overs!! I don't generally like the idea of leaving a 5 star review unless I have been to a place multiple times and can vouch for consistency but I was impressed with the food, service and atmosphere. I also inquired about an ingredient of another roll for future reference due to an allergy and she was quick to let me know they allow customizations without issue which is awesome for lots of reasons! read more

It is this little place on the corner but it is so good! Had been craving sushi but the normal place I went was closed and I found this place! The first time I ordered wrong, golden Cali roll instead of the tempura one, but it was still good! And every time since I have corrected myself and added sauce to the tempura California roll and they've nailed it every time! I also got the chicken fried rice, which was delicious but it did have a lot of onions! I'm not an onion lover but I could eat these. We've had the volcano roll as well and it was weird with a layer of raw onions, not for me but I picked the onions and the roll was good. I don't know if the tuna tower is normally deconstructed or if that's because we have only had take out but my husband loves it so he can get the right amount of each section. Easily the worst sushi I have ever eaten. I hadn't been in a couple years and so sad to see that the quality is horrible now. There is a thick brown jelly sauce on all of the rolls that looks and tastes rough. None of the meat tasted fresh and the pieces are too big to fit in your mouth. We had a group of 4 adults with an additional kid and a baby. They charged the baby as an adult. Anyway we ordered a lot of food, which was the plan because we wanted to try as much ad we could. Waitress makes a wise Crack about it being too much food. Anyway service was overall fine, food was fine. 1 star because as a consumer you can't trust these people. First of all to not warn people that a party of 6 is going to have required 20 percent tip is crazy but then To consider a baby part of a party of 6 so you can charge said tip is wrong and then to give out receipts that say pre tip so you feel compelled to leave more even though this buisness already snuck in a tip is really scummy. I called to tell them they made a mistake then they revealed the other fees and I then took back the second tip of 20 percent because I felt deceived by all the hidden dealings. I'm a big fan of sushi and i've also lived in denton for a long time now. I really don't have any friends that like sushi, but you would figure at one point i would have stopped in. Well i finally did and i can say i was very very happy! The place is very very small, but i've always felt this really compliments any sushi resturant. Even though it is small hey do have seating at the "bar" where they prepare your orders. The whole place was clean and staff was on top of everything not to mention very happy to have me there. As mentioned they have complimentary miso soup, which is a simple way to put a smile on anyones face. I order two different rolls which were very fresh. They didn't skimp on things nor roll them in too much rice. Overall i was very happy with everything i would put this place very high on my list for sushi in Denton. read more

I Love Sushi wins my votes for best sushi bar ambiance in Denton... well, unless you're going to throw down some cash for Keiichi, which is on my poor little tummy's bucket list. The restaurant is small and intimate without feeling cramped. They've decorated nicely with cool colors and have fun paper lanterns lighting each table. While not very dressy, I'd consider this a good date or special dinner spot. The last time I went in it was eerily quiet, but I believe there's been some nice background music playing on previous visits. Sushi can get expensive quickly, no matter where you go. I Love Sushi's pricing seems pretty comparable to other spots in town- maybe even on the less expensive end for specialty rolls. I've found most of the rolls here to be on the medium to large end and expect one to two to easily fill a normal adult appetite. They include complimentary miso soup, which is delicious and not too salty. Back in the day they threw in the ginger salad, but now you'll have to pay a little extra if you'd like it. I've not tried their noodle or fried rice dishes, but have enjoyed the entree dinners they offer for around $15. It comes with miso soup, rice, 4 pc. California roll, ginger salad, tempura veggies, 2 tempura shrimp, and your meat of choice (beef, chicken, seafood or salmon teriyaki). My husband and I normally split one of these and a specialty roll and go home quite happy. I'm not a raw fish eater, but they still have quite a few tasty cooked sushi roll options. My faves are the Sunrise Roll (shrimp tempura topped with crab meat) or the Louisiana Roll (deep fried craw fish, cream cheese, jalapeno and crab meat- this one is HUGE). I'll keep playing the lottery in hopes to move up to Keiichi, but until then, I Love Sushi fits me just fine. :) read more

I first went to Avocado Sushi because it's close to my house, it's good also, but just a bit out of my price range. =/ Thus my excitement when my bf and I decided to give I Love Sushi a try and have named it our "go-to Denton sushi place." They have a great menu, from rolls to teriyaki. Their hibachi style fried rice looks delicious, I haven't tried it yet, but just watching people eat it makes my mouth water. (creepy?) So if you're with someone who's not a huge sushi fan, no worries! You can still get your fix and satisfy your friend. And yes, the complimentary miso soup is a definite plus! One tip for those who get cold easily, like me: bring a jacket or sweater. read more

Small restaurant, looks like a hole in the wall from outside. Staff wasn't the warmest but they weren't rude. Prices were average. Here's what I tried: 1. Yellowtail Belly nigiri: was not fresh to me...a no go. 2. Salmon nigiri: good. 3. Hiroshima roll: contained spicy tuna, creamcheese, crabmeat, jalapeno & avocado roll - deep fried...I'd order this again, it was tasty. 4. Spider roll: was supposed to be deep fried soft shell crab and though it wasn't deep fried at all, nor was there soft shell crab (more like an imitation crab mix with a fried soft shell crab leg piece on each end of the roll), it was good. 5. California roll: good one; I like the crab mix they used. 6. Scallop nigiri: good. I'd get it again. I'd return. read more

My experience at i heart sushi on Valentine's Day is as follows: I walk in the door and get told to sit wherever I please. Nice(: My girlfriend and I order two waters with lemon. The waitress clunked our waters and miso onto the table. Not too zen, but it's cool that miso is free! Other than that, the night wasn't off to a great start service-wise. Once we started getting our rolls and sushi, we had a different waitress who was very nice and gentle setting down our plates of food. At the end, our original waitress didn't ask if we wanted dessert and just brought us our check. Good good sushi and very reasonable prices. We have always brought in happy meals for them and tonight we're told "never to come back with these" yet they have no kids meals. We won't ever be back. Such a sweet little place, its not super decorated on the inside but I really like it! The staff is very very sweet, always greet you and wish you a good night on your way out. It's one of the very few places that serve sushi that I have NO worries of getting sick from the sushi. The food has always been above and beyond what I expect as well as the service I received. The complimentary miso soup is superb and the Tokyo Tower is my favorite thing to get. And when you get a Tokyo Tower they will offer to mix it for you or just let you have that fun to yourself! Just moved to the Denton area and was looking for a new sushi place. We tired a couple but this one was by far better. The service was excellent and the food even better. We got a couple sushi rolls and then the beef dinner combination to share. Me and my boyfriend usually finish the amount we order. But this place sushi rolls are huge. I stopped here on the way back from Oklahoma. We were looking for something close to I-35 and pretty light. We ordered the goyza appetizer. It was pretty good but the menu didn't mention it was tempura battered. Not quite the light start I was looking for but it was still good. I had the Sexy Roll, which is tuna, salmon, white tuna, red snapper, crabmeat wrapped in cucumber. It was really good and the fish tasted fresh. How Denton continues to get fresh sushi grade fish is beyond me. I didn't like the crabmeat though. The roll would have been perfect without it. I can never stop at one roll so I got the Cactus Dragon Roll as well. It was just alright. It was filled with shrimp tempura and topped with avocado and eel. The combo was a little mushy for me. Overall, I thought it was a pretty good experience. If I was ever in the area again I'd give it another try. read more

I usually love this place and I was craving sushi on a Thursday so I looked up the hours, saw they close for lunch at 3, and rushed over. I walked in at 2:15 and thought 45 minutes was plenty of time for me to scarf some sushi and get outta there. As soon as I walked in, the owner asked if I wanted something to go several times. I said that I hoped I could eat there. She brought me a menu and showed me some items that were "fast". She told the cooks (who were laughing that I came in so close to 3) that I would be "fast" because it was just me eating. My server was very kind. I asked what time they close and he told me 2:30. I did notice that 3 was listed on the front door. I ordered the most basic sushi I could order and was done in about 15 minutes because I felt so awkward and uncomfortable. The check was of course dropped off immediately following the sushi. I just remember waiting tables for a restaurant that closed at 9pm and the owner had us take tables until 9:05 just in case somebody's watch was off. If you create open/close times, why change it up? They turned another customer away at 2:30 and shut the open lights off. I was just very disappointed. read more

I was very wary of this place for a long time. The name of the place is just odd- I expected to walk into a bad buffet. Well, I was pleasantly surprised. The pricing is pretty great for the quality. Only had the rolls (I love me some specialty rolls) but they were all excellent. I can eat sushi until I am bursting and I was able to do so easily. We tried the Denton roll, Spicy Alaska Roll, Green Dragon roll, and Philadelphia Roll. They were all great but the Spicy Alaska and Green Dragon were especially good (get the Spicy Alaska for an easy spice kick). I will be back! Other notes: Miso is pretty good- not much tofu though. Also tried an app, it was good but only filled us up for our delicious sushi. Staff was very attentive. read more

I have been coming here since it was Japango back in 2006. It is still awesome and I love eating here each time I get the chance. It is by far my favorite sushi place around and I have eaten at plenty. The staff is always friendly and the whole kitchen says good-bye when you leave. The menu is diverse and the sushi rolls are awesome. The go-ji, the rainbow and the baked salmon rolls are among my favorites. I love their red bean ice cream and most of the time they have mochi too. This is a definite place to go especially for those that want really good sushi. read more

But after eating at samurai of Tokyo in Wichita Falls, blue sushi in Fort Worth it's hard to give this place many stars. The owners acted as if they could care less, and were not friendly. The waitress did a passable job, and the sushi seemed fresh. I made the mistake of ordering a fried rice plate for $12 thinking it was a family portion. Omg it was a tiny portion and was primarily onions. It was some of the worst fried rice I ever had. They need to change the name to fried onion w/ rice. at $3 i would have thought i was being taken advantage of.I lived in Okinawa for nearly a year so I have had a sampling of various forms of fried rice. All of which were better. In looking at other non-sushi items they all seemed drastically overpriced. Now that being said... I based solely on the sushi might give 3 stars. If you're a sushi shop in a town with Keiichi, the comparisons are unfair yet inevitable. This place is a charming, clean, and friendly joint with reasonable prices and a good reputation. But the fish reminds why many of my friends from the coast(s) won't eat sushi in the Midwest. It's simply not very fresh. The rice for my smoked salmon roll was dry and stale-tasting too, which does the fish no favors. I enjoyed the speciality crab roll dressed in a Sriracha and mayo sauce, and the bluefin tuna sashimi was very good, the best part of the meal. Tiny standalone building (a converted fast food place) that has housed many a sushi shack over the years. Plenty of parking with an obvious drive-thru lane and window incorporated into the lot. Interior is intimate, elegant and well decorated for the suburban/thoroughfare location with little to no views of the outside traffic without being dark, and would not look out of place in any big city. Two things struck me immediately: First, the menu is quite extensive and features a lot of Japanese dishes that are specifically not sushi/sashimi such as salads, fried rice, noodles, teriyaki, tempura and seafood, as well as a seemingly endless list of specialty sushi rolls. Second, the menu has complete descriptions and photos of just about every dish they serve, including the sushi selections. If you're just a sushi journeyman such as myself and don't know each selection by name and ingredient, this is a huge plus over the conventional bare checklist ticket. Had the seafood yaki udon, pencil-thick noodles with shrimp, scallops, fresh mussels and vegetables in a sweet teriyaki sauce. Shared a bit of light and crispy vegetable tempura, and everything comes with a small bowl of miso soup; all was very delicious. The bento boxes come highly recommended but they are only available for weekday lunches. Sushi aside, I am a fan of this place. Prices are reasonable (most entrees in the $8-12 range, nothing on the menu is over $18) and the seafood is as fresh as one can expect this far from a coast or port city. Great atmosphere, one of the better restaurants in Denton and could compete with many sushi places in Dallas. read more

I wanted to like this place. It's a nice little restaurant with nice feel to it. The staff is extremely nice and helpful. Everyone that worked there was great. It was even great that they give free miso soup. Unfortunately the food was not good. The free miso soup was just ok, kinda bland. It was nice and hot which was good on a cold night. We ordered the veggie tempura for an appetizer. It was very greasy and the batter is extremely think. A few bites in and my stomach started to hurt and I felt gross. Neither of us finished the dish which is odd. Next we had 2 avocado rolls and a veggie roll. The veggie roll was the same as the tempura so it was not good at all. The avocado rolls were only ok. After leaving I felt like I was going to be sick for the next two hours. Seems like a lot of people love it. I wanted to but will not be back. read more
