Ice dream is a cute shop with Chinese/Hong Kong desserts. The shop owner was very nice and welcoming with a great energy. My sister and I ordered a scoop of thai tea ice cream and sago w/mango. Since their ice cream is from Gunther's is was delicious and the sago w/mango was not too sweet and was refreshing. The only negative part of my experience was seeing the younger lady behind the counter loudly giving attitude to the owner which caught the attention of all the customers in the store. first of all, i went specifically for the egg puffs, and they definitely satisfied my cravings for a great price as well! it was less than $6.50 after tax, made fresh within 10 minutes. furthermore, they had amazing customer service! the younger girl told my sisters and I about all the items they offer with a friendly tone as soon as we walked in. the older woman was so welcoming it felt like i was talking to one of my aunts. they sell a variety of drinks, desserts and taiwanese street food items (more to come later since they just opened!) I've had boba before but I'm not super familiar with HK-type desserts. I got the Brown Sugar Milk Tea with ice cream (I chose horchata). It was really good and the woman who owns the place showed me that she makes the tea from scratch, she doesn't use powders like some other places might. I like that they also don't use syrups, they use brown sugar. I also tried the sago with red bean and toddy palm which kind of reminded me of tapioca pudding, but not as thick. It was really good, if you aren't a huge fan of sweets the sago is a good option. They also carry Gunther's ice cream and they do the 50/50 freeze which is what Gunther's is known for. It's nice that there's a spot in Elk Grove that carries Gunther's so you don't have to go all the way to their Sacramento location. This shop is in a shopping center so there's plenty of parking and it's on a corner that's on two busy streets so it's easy to get to. I'll definitely be back to try the rest of the menu. read more

I'm a huge fan of HK lemon tea drinks and have been missing it since my local shop that had it (R-ice) had closed down. So image my surprise when I saw the R-ice owner at Ice Dream! She's helping out family with this shop and that's how I knew all the drinks were going to be authentic! She even came around the shop to show customers the type of Taiwanese sugar she is using for the milk tea which is what makes it tastes different. I got the HK lemon tea, the milk tea, and the mango sago. These taste exactly like how they tasted in R-ice so I'm super happy. For others who haven't had R-ice, the HK lemon tea is super refreshing, not too sweet and perfect for hot weather. Meanwhile the milk tea is made from real tea leaves and Taiwanese brown sugar so it is STRONG in flavor. I'm not a big boba fan so I could have done just the milk tea and been happy. The flavor was very reminiscent of HK milk tea. Now for some info about the menu in the winter months. After reconnecting with the owner, she told me that in the winter, they're planning to expand the menu to have more food items and she mentioned savory things with rice and other HK/Taiwanese foods, which I am so excited for! So definitely keep an eye out! I'm hoping to see some new items and maybe some old items from the R-ice menu. read more

Went to Ice Dream during their soft opening and tried at least one thing from each of the menu boards. Everything was made to order including the egg puff bubble waffles, the tarp balls, and sweet potato balls. The portions are huge and filling. The first time I went I got a Taro Ice Cream With Egg Puff Ice Cream Cone and left full. The bananas and strawberries come complimentary and there's options to add other things like sprinkles, chocolate drizzle or marshmallows. Went there a few more times and had the Mango ice Cream Ice Grass Jelly & Taro Balls which was made similarly to a Filipino Halo Halo and the portion was huge, the small handled spoon could barely touch the bottom of the cup. Also tried the Brown Sugar Milk Tea with Vanilla Ice Cream and added boba. It wasn't super sugary like other places. Got the Black Sticky Rice & Mango w/ Coconut Milk to go on another visit and tasted extra delicious while the rice is warm, they suggested to remove the mango and heat up the rice if I didn't eat it immediately. I've been wanting to stop by for their ice cream specialties and was pleasantly surprised by the other Asian dessert options as well. These are notable for their fillings, which include a popular version that's filled with chicken and basil.
