I went to Ice Box Cafe for their Taste of Today pre-fix menu. For only $34, you get an appetizer, an entree, and a dessert! Everything was SPECTACULAR! Our waiter Nate was incredibly attentive to us and made sure to bring plates to share because we wanted to try a little bit of everything. I definitely recommend the Chilled Carrot & Ginger Soup and the Filet of Beef au Polvre. The other servers Josue and Sergio made incredible cocktails & just the overall attention was amazing. I cannot emphasize enough. This is the second time I come to eat here and they always make you feel like family. I love coming here when I'm in Miami Beach because the food is 10/10, the restaurant is so cute, and I love interacting with the staff! read more

There are times when you have a restaurant experience and you have to almost pinch yourself to make sure that you aren't dreaming. While connecting to a flight, I stopped at Icebox for a quick bite to eat. Upon approaching the register one of the staff members was texting, looked up at me and proceeded to finish texting. Baffled, I turn around and get ready to leave and another staff member runs to the register and greets me. She must've saw my facial expression through my mask. I ordered a pizza which tasted like cardboard covered in sauce and cheese! Upon asking for a bag, the original lady who was texting said "The bags are staring right at you", I reply "Are you saying that the customers have to pack their own bags?" She replies "Clearly." I held my tongue and I am glad that I did! Otherwise, it would not have been pretty. A few things. 1. Please get rid of the bad apples on your staff team, they are costing you customers. 2. If your staff would rather text than serve customers, that is a huge problem. 3. If you are going to serve cardboard covered with sauce and cheese, it needs to be reduced to $5-6 rather than being a $13 pizza. 4. Make sure that your staff welcomes customers and gets some customer service training! read more

Icebox is a love/hate kind of place in the MIA airport. They have good looking food for prices that usually send me away. However with this visit I was looking for a healthy salad and the roasted veggies with quinoa looked pretty good. Even at around $15 good for pre packaged insanely wasteful single serve food product with the sauce fully contained within another plastic container. After ordering I sat down in the "cafe" in which you can watch aircraft takeoff, land,etc and hear about customers complain that "the prices we pay here we should have cell phone plugs available" While I don't disagree as they charge a premium for food, I understand the dynamics of airport food service. It's not up to the vendor typically. Give it a rest. The service is very Miami indifferent which I was surprised about. I'm not a stranger to MIA airport and I'll leave it at that, and I was treated with supreme can't give a crap about what you ordered service. It's Miami, and I'll take off another star for that. There are plenty of grab-and-go boxes featuring more than just salads and sandwiches. They also sell daily soups, hot sandwiches, alcohol, coffee, and a variety of desserts (cakes, cookies, etc.). I choose to try their curry chicken with cilantro rice. The piece of chicken breast was really substantial and their curry sauce was delicious and not spicy. Excellent option for a hearty hot meal in the North Terminal (D gates/ post security) at Miami International Airport. Hungry and in need of a nice hot meal, a friend recommended the curry chicken and cilantro rice at Icebox. The exact location is opposite gate D11 after security. The Icebox appears more of a coffee shop/ bakery, but actually serves good amount of hot options in addition to sandwiches and empanadas. The curry chicken was excellent; generous amounts of chicken breast served in a rich creamy sauce, accompanied by roasted vegetables (squash, peppers, egg plant and carrots) and delicious cilantro white rice. The size of the portion was enormous and very nicely presented. The only thing I could pick at would be that I wish it had been slightly spicier, but that's just a personal preference. I'm in MIA Airport today, so I decided to go to my favorite place to get some food. It's in the D concourse(American Airlines)by gate D11. They have all sorts of delicious items on the menu and you can have them for here or to go. My favorite item is "Green Plate"(brown rice, portobello mushrooms and kale in the balsamic/curry sauce). It's so delicious. I also had a small coconut curry soup. They also have fanulous cakes(ones Oprah was raving about) of many different kind like red velvet and dulce de leche etc. I've had a dulce de leche before and it was a huge piece and so rich. This is solely based on dining at the airport, which is basically garbage with the exception of icebox, sushi maki, and Einstein brothers, and in that order. Yesterday morning, I ordered a strawberry banana smoothie with yogurt, honey, and spirulina. You can make the smoothie however you like, but this was delicious. This place also recognizes the employee discount, which is a huge help. My smoothie was a good size and came to 8 bucks. The airport, as expected, usually has much higher prices than outside, but 8 bucks was totally reasonable for a smoothie. I live in coral gables, and any smoothie the same size will cost you atleast $10. So I was more than ok with spending $8 at an airport. For lunch, I decided to go back and got the curry chicken plate. This came with an abundance of chicken, cilantro jasmine rice, and the most delicious roasted vegetables including eggplant, peppers, carrots, and squash. It was a very large portion for 12.50, so much so that I took half of it home. Today, for lunch, I tried the soup of the day, which was lentil. It was excellent, tomato based, lots of veggies and a good little kick to it. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The lady offered me a sample of the soup to make sure I liked it. I've never left a review for an airport restaurant or food vendor before but I just have to leave one for IceBox Cafe because I was very impressed. I've had their S'mores in a cup dessert before and loved it however on this occasion I was looking for more than just dessert. I opted for their Pulled Pork Sandwich and it is insanely good. I wasn't expecting much as far as airport food goes but it's delicious. Trust. It pairs nicely with a large glass of Pinot Grigio. Everything is so good that I couldn't wait to leave the review and am currently doing so while still enjoying my sandwich and wine. In addition, I noticed that the Chocolate Delight cake is Oprah's favorite dessert so I bought one for the flight. (I'll update this review regarding the cake later!) Finally, the customer service was great. I read mixed reviews about the service but I was greeted by the sweetest girl who carded me for my wine (bless her heart!) and in doing so we realized our upcoming 40th birthdays are one day apart from each other. I have a rule when it comes to eating before getting on a plane: stay away from food food. Stick to liquids and breads. When you're 34,000 ft above the ground, you want to make sure that your stomach is going to cooperate for the duration of the trip. So, even armed with an airplane diet of baked goods and liquid refreshment, I'm still pretty sure that I wouldn't try the Ice Box again. OJ is OJ (bottled only). To munch on, I ordered two items: a corn blueberry muffin and a double chocolate chunk cookie. The muffin was, at the same time, greasy and mealy and my cookie was so blah and tasteless that I didn't want to finish it. Yes. You read that correctly. Me. The cookie monster. Not wanting to finish a chocolate cookie. A *double* chocolate *chunk* cookie. Think about that. Then think about it again. Then choose wisely. read more

On my way to pick up luggage from a flight I spotted (and was really excited) to see an Icebox in the airport so I could pick up dessert for myself and husband who has a never ending sweet tooth. I got up to the counter and grabbed two to-go slices of cake (red velevet and coconut cake) and when I stepped over to the cashier the guy working the counter abruptly told me their kitchen was closed. I explained I didn't want food, just to pay for the desserts. He apologized and rung me up and I was on my way. The whole way home I was still excited about the cakes because it's been a while since I've been to Icebox and they are known for such delicious desserts. Well I can say their airport location is NOT. The red velvet had hardly any flavor whatsoever, it was like cardboard and my coconut cake was beyond dry. I took one and a half bites and threw it away. For $6 a pop they definitely need to improve the quality of their cakes overall, or how they are stored because it wasn't worth it. Let me paint the picture: I celebrated my wedding on a Saturday - until about 6am - in Nicaragua. I flew out of Nica at about 9am. Got to Miami and checked in for a flight to San Francisco. I was tired. Very, very tired - and surprisingly - very, very hungry. I remembered a buddy of mine had gotten a Meatload sandwich from Icebox and I figured that was the perfect thing to not only fill my belly, but also sooth the mild hangover I was nursing. Man it's great when your gut is right! The meatloaf sandwich is reasonably priced ($10 - airport prices) and actually filled me up. It comes with fresh mozzarella slices on ciabatta bread. It was delicious. The seating for Icebox is EXTREMELY cramped, especially when you take into consideration everyone lugging around their carry-on's - but I managed. They are super good about cleaning up the tables as soon as you leave and the staff is extremely nice. The Meatloaf made the flight bearable and will definitely stop in for another bite next time I am flying out of MIA. read more

Time and time again I had passed Icebox Cafe on my way to and from Miami at the airport. And had heard they also had Oprah's favorite cake. However, after trying Oprah's favorite tea at Teavana and being none too impressed, Oprah's opinion had taken a substantial nosedive in credibility. Alas, celebration and a state of shock about graduation led to the peanut butter brownie in a haze. There are two things I take seriously - my peanut butter and chocolate. When it comes to these two, there is no joking around. So this brownie...Holy peanut butter chocogasm. Dense, fudgey, and that "mmmm" noise when you have a rich, chewy brownie rather than those cakey ones. The most disappointing experience ever is a brownie that looks good, and tastes meh. It just breaks my heart! I wish the peanut butter had been a tiny bit sweeter...it certainly had a strong peanut buttery taste, but it was lacking a tad of sweetness that would have set this brownie at 99/100. But, this was a once in a lifetime end-of-college brownie, and I am glad I made a good choice! Icebox is worth a visit! What shall I try next? P.S. If you decide to eat this on the airplane, you might have to exercise the no sharing rule as your seat mates drool next to you. Sorry, they didn't stop at Icebox. read more

The Ice Box Cafe - Airport is the mini me version of the South Beach location. I am an employee at the airport and was so excited in anticipation of this opening. I was also a little cautious that being at the airport the menu would be limited and more expensive. Fortunately that future didnt happen. Just to make it sweeter, they give Airport employees 15% off their order. When first approaching the restuarant you see a brightly display case with different colors of fresh baked cakes. On the top is a a clear glass fence protecting cookies, muffins and other flaky sweet pastries. Standing there thinking you have an idea of what goodness you'll get, you get distracted by two chalk boards with a wonderful selection of daily specials. The board has breakfast specials like quiche of the day to smoothies and parfaits. My favorite as on the beach is their fresh soups. Wonderful flavors like chicken coconut curry or turkey chili and of course soup of the day. Then they have Entrees that make you feel so healthy. They have a Quinoa Bowl that has Portobello mushrooms and Oelek sambal (an Indonesian condiment). What about the tender Brisket and the giant selection of artisan sandwiches. so many choices. I feel sorry for the customers that are in a hurry. If you are not being rushed then these wonderful delights can be eaten at a counter or the bright white tables and tangelo colored chairs. There is a wall of glass that looks out over the flight line, helping you dream of your next destination. If you are in a hurry and have no time for dreaming over a Pulled pork sandwich and a glass of a sultry red wine,there is a giant selection of to go delicacies like Hummus, feta and herbed tofu sandwiches or Malaysian shrimp salad . They are in a huge refrigerated case that you pick up and take it to the register and then make way to your flight. But wait, you will not do justice to your visit without trying a piece of their famous chocolate delight cake. This cake was famous because Oprah proclaimed it being one of her favorite things. The cake starts with a moist dark chocolate cake, with a thin layer of chocolate ganache on top. Next was a light and fluffy thick layer of vanilla cheese cake. Covering the cheese cake was a velvety milk chocolate mousse and another thin layer of moist cake. Not to be undone the cake is completely covered with chocolate ganache. Any yelpers that forsake this cake should be watched with a careful eye. Oprah you are right again ... this is MY favorite cake. read more

So had to stop at this place during a layover in Miami because there was a sign that said "2006 Oprah's Cake Pick" We all know Oprah is never wrong so I was really expecting to taste some amazing cake. Me and my fellow dessert lover ordered 3 slices (German Chocolate, Red Velvet, and Dolce de Leche). Ummm dry, dry, and dry. If I had to pick the best one it would be the Dolce De Leche, but all 3 cakes were lacking sweetness and moistness. I'll have to look into if there's an actual location or if this airport joint is the only place selling these cakes. As for the service...ummm...much to be desired. No helpful suggestions or friendly smiles. In fact it seem like a worker there was really upset and she stormed off to the back. Something I didn't find out until I was on the airplane and a couple of bites into my treat. Unfortunately, I have a mild allergy to walnuts. After my disappointing lunch at one of the restaurants in Miami International Airport... I found GOLD! Okay, I found Red Velvet Cake!!! While walking up to gate D8, my boyfriend pointed out there's a cake stand "Icebox". At first I didn't believe him because I didn't see it, but then it hit me! I was staring at a sign that read "Oprah's Favorite Cake..." I mean, Oprah liked it, why not try it out?! (At least that's what I said to my boyfriend). So this place had many different cakes: red velvet, chocolate delight, lemon, dulce de leche, etc. They even had cupcakes, dream bars, brownies, cookies, muffins, sandwiches, etc. Oprah's favorite is the Chocolate Delight cake and I was torn between trying out Oprah's favorite or getting my all time favorite: Red Velvet. So I did what anyone would do and its to try both! I spent about $12 on two slices of cake and it was ALL WORTH IT! The Red Velvet was amazing! The cake was super moist and the cream cheese frosting was light. I have to admit that this was the BEST RED VELVET CAKE EVER! I am actually very sad that there isn't one here in Houston. :( Oprah's cake... okay, sorry Oprah, but I wasn't too into it. It's a chocolate layered cheesecake. It was good, don't get me wrong, but not like the red velvet good. The chocolate mousse layer was delicious, but the frosting wasn't that great. It was a bit too rich for me. For airport food, I have absolutely no complaints. Actually, even for "regular" food, I don't have much to complain about when it comes to the Icebox Cafe. They had an extensive menu, cooked fresh to order (as well as pre-prepared items), and of course, they had a large selection of cakes. I ordered the crabcake sandwich ($11) and got a slice of the Red Velvet Cake ($5.25). The sandwich was really good! It had a flavorful slaw on it, and the bread was delicious. The cake was also very good, but not worth $5, in my opinion. I prefer the icing on Red Velvet Cake to have more of a cream cheese flavor. The cake itself was very light, as opposed to the more dense RVC that I'm used to. My dining companion got the pulled pork sandwich and chicken curry. I sampled both, and while I liked the sandwich (a side of BBQ sauce would have been great), the curry wasn't all that flavorful. The cafe itself was very inviting, and was kept very clean, and all of the cashiers were very friendly. All in all, I was pleased with my experience here, and next time I'm in the MIA airport (terminal D), I'll be visiting it again- and will likely sample another cake! read more

Decadent layers of chocolate mousse, cheesecake, brownie, and frosting. The mousse and cheesecake blended well together. I did find the frosting around the edges to be a little hard - unlike the creamy interior. Obviously the airport price markup is a drag.
