So I used to get a little excited when I would arrive at MIA with a few extra minutes before my flight. Even if my gate was at the other side of the terminal I would race to Ice Box. Everything was excellent (cookies, cakes, entrees, wine, coffee). I was shocked by the quality and value of this "airport food". But I've been extremely disappointed on my last two visits. On my last visit I received a cold piece of meatloaf and today I ordered a breakfast sandwich which, In the past was light, the bread soft and it came with a delicious side of greens. TODAY, I was given a STALE, greasy, hard sandwich wrapped in foil with no greens. I also ordered coffee and was told they only have espresso drinks. This is an airport and it's 8am how can you NOT have coffee??? So when we were going through the airport the sign on the window saying best cake 2006 rung out. We had to give it a try. I had the strawberry short cake. I found the texture to be soggy and the cake overall to be pretty bland. On the was back (a week later) I decided to give it another try. This time I tried the soup, a chicken curry which was actually very good. I finished it with the red velvet cake (which is my all time favorite cake). However this piece was awful. Dried out and just nasty. Since the place is known for the cakes, I'll have to say that it did not live to the billing. Save your self the money and time. read more

While strolling through terminal D in search of some good Cuban eats, I read 'Oprah's favorite cake' and knew I needed some. The chocolate delight as it's called was $6 for a very large slice. It is chocolate cake with chocolate moose, and cheesecake layered and all covered in chocolate ganache. It sounds and looks better than it tasted. It was good, okay really good, but not the best by any means. I also had to try the dulce de leche cake. Both my husband and I liked this one better. It was so decadent, moist and sweet. I just wish the caramel flavor had come through a bit more. Both pieces were worth the money and a great find in the airport. read more

Are here for breakfast early on a weekend. The interesting menu, great design, and attractive cakes are a ruse. The breakfast sandwich was microwaved with a soggy bun. The bacon was fast food quality, and not hot. The oatmeal was OK, but too sweet for my taste. Hard to mess up oatmeal. The best juice drink was good but way overpriced ($8.50). I would've been better off at McDonald's... And I hate McDonald's. read more

I would normally say that I hate food in the airport but I LOVE going here and look forward to it. I have even walked out of my way to go to the place for a great bite before jumping on the airplane. The staff is lovely and always happy to serve. Hands down my fav item on the menu is the Coconut Chicken Curry Soup. Makes my mouth water just thinking about it. I was fortunate that my gate happened to exit right next to Icebox. I was tempted by the desserts and had the German Chocolate Cake. It was a big slice and pretty good, but I was more impressed by the pulled pork sandwich. It was made with cilantro aioli instead of BBQ sauce, and was amazing. Wish it wasn't just in the airport. I will have to try another dessert next time :) read more

Always consistently good food at this spot. I've had their rotating green bowl, curry chicken, and pulled pork sandwich. All were filling and tasty meals. The price seems a little high, especially considering you don't even get a bag of chips with your sandwich, but when you just want a good meal between airports, this is a place to visit. The pulled pork sandwich is by far my favorite. Texans, beware: there is no bbq sauce on this sandwich, but it's a generous portion of meat. read more

This is by far the best to-go restaurant option at MIA airport, they serve soups, sandwiches, meat loaf, etc., things that you cant get a regular fast food place, still its airport food, still its pre-cooked meaning they just pop it in a microwave and give it to you, but way better. I think if they could some how offer quick made to order food itll be better, also I think itll be good if they could change the menu time to time for frequent flyers you get bored. read more

Always stop here when in MIA. They have good fresh salads and sandwiches. Good vegetarian options for me. Vegan soba noodle salads and tofu sandwiches! Don't get the guava and cheese pastry here. Picked up Curry chicken for dinner on the plane. So yummy! Big portion size too. The chicken as well as the veggies (the eggplant was really good) and the cilantro rice were fantastic. Price was $13 plus tax. Next time I will try dessert. read more

Not sure why I haven't written about this place before. An oasis in the desert of airport food. If you want to take yummy snacks with you on the plane and not subject yourself to plane food this is your spot. When in a new city, I like to try the 'must-haves' and the 'chocolate bomb' cake was Oprah's favorite cake and I'm a huge chocolate lover, so I had to try this thing. I managed to get a slice at the airport location (for breakfast!) and I think I built it up too much in my mind. I enjoyed the outer 'crust' the best, because I felt like the main 'cheesecakey' part was a little too dense for my taste. It was rich, but the different layers of chocolate made it work together and kept it from being overwhelmingly rich or sweet. Overall, not my favorite cake. Oprah needs to visit my fave Thai place for theirs, maybe she'd change her mind!!!!!! read more

I stopped here at the Miami International Airport. I found it in Terminal 4 (American Airlines). The staff was nice and the presentation of the food in the bakery reminded me of one of my favorite bakeries back home in Los Angeles, Magnolia Bakery. It's not cheap but I bought a few items regardless. I bought a slice of the key lime pie, vanilla cheesecake, a peanut butter cookie and a chocolate chip cookie. Everything tasted great and when you are I'm Miami, I strongly suggest that you go to the Icebox Cafe! read more

Good food. Terrible service. I come here very often so I can say that tables are always dirty, your food stays on the window (ready) until they feel like they should call you to pick it up. They are now warming everything together in the microwave which make some parts extremely hot and others cold. There are many restaurants to choose from at the large Miami airport, but this one caught my eye because of the name and the extensive menu of comforting foods! I got the chicken coconut curry soup and angus meatloaf with sweet potato mash, all of which was incredible! The portions are huge and if I had room, I definitely would have tried one of their delicious looking desserts. Next time, for sure! This place is DELICIOUS!! Came to the restaurant very last minute for brunch with my girlfriends. There was a bit of a wait as it is a pretty popular spot but the staff was very accommodating and sat us quickly at a table outside. Our waitress was great and our food was way above average! This is one of those fabulous and rare places where traveling vegetarians can get tasty, healthy food, prepared fresh when you order it. Of course, it's almost impossible not to then blow the healthy part by having one of their deserts (I especially like their carrot cake) -- I don't eat cake very often, but I think that Ice Box cakes are worth the splurge. The bread was good. I had the Caribbean sandwich, and the pickles on it were a nice touch. That is about all the good I can say of this cafe. My husband had the pulled pork sandwich, and aside from the bread, he was not impressed. We had a chocolate chunk cookie. It literally had no taste, and it was so dry it crumbled in your hand. I ordered a Mocha (for $4.75 I might add) - there was my worst mistake! I watched them make the mocha: they dumped a packet of Swiss Miss hot chocolate mix in a cup, poured coffee over the top, and that was it. Didn't even stir it. One thing I will say, the staff was very friendly and understanding when I asked for my money back for the coffee. read more

Travelling is always a drag with all the lines and security and scrunching into your seat on the plane. It just is not that much fun to fly anymore. On top of that, the food choices in the airports are generally flat out BAD!.... Not in Miami Airport!! The Icebox Cafe--an airport branch of the restaurant of the same name on Miami Beach---is a refreshing change to the boring, disgusting fast food options that are normally available. Not only can you get a taste of their famous delicious desserts, but all of the food is freshly made. You can get a delicious sandwich or salad and feel like you are actually eating well while you are travelling. These guys should put an Icebox in every airport to help out the hungry traveler. read more

We had tremendous brunch at the icebox café. Staff was extremely courteous and prompt. Food was fresh and very flavorful. In particular the desserts were outstanding. The Keylime pie was one of the best that we ever had. Owner and manager were checking on all customers and we had the privilege of meeting the owner Robert who is been running this restaurant for 20 years. As a couple who eats out constantly we thought this is one of the better places that we had ever had for brunch in terms of service food quality and taste and value. I travel through Miami airport a lot. I used to love icebox because of their healthy options. I especially love the soups. However, they upped the prices of the soups, made the portions smaller, and the quality has significantly decreased. So disappointed! read more

I havent tried their food so I cant say anything about that. They do have a really nice place to sit with tables and chairs. However, their coffee is atrocious. I asked for iced coffee and the cashier said I could try starbucks. I opted for a hazelnut coffee, which was just subpar coffee with too much hazelnut syrup. read more
