I love shaved ice and it's so hard to find! This is the first time I've paid for shaved ice by the ounce! I thought that was only yogurt! It seems the price is reasonable so I ended up paying about $11 for a small mango. You also can put some condensed milk on top before you weight your dessert. The service was mediocre. The staff was not super friendly and they didn't seem organized in getting the shaved ice and takayuki done very quickly but maybe they were short staffed so I won't totally hold it against them. There aren't a lot of seats inside so make sure you dress warmly if you have shaved ice or yogurt during the winter so you can find seats outside! read more

One of my favorite dessert places! I LOVE the Matcha Affogatto! It's a cup lined with condensed milk, filled with shaved snow, and topped with almond pudding and mochi. I've been enjoying Robert's snow creations since trying the Bruce Lee at the original pop-up inside Pangea Bakery many years ago. I've been happy to see Iceskimo's growth and success over the years. We usually go to the Kearny Mesa store but occasionally come to Del Mar too. The snow and service is consistently good. I've liked every flavor I have ever tried. I'm a fan of the original milk, horchata and lychee, though I do miss the fun OG flavors like black sesame (not currently on menu). All the extras like waffle creations and affogatos are amazing (I loved the Purple Yammy). This location even offers soft serve. If you haven't tried Iceskimo you're missing out - so much better than traditional ice cream or soft serve. There's something for everyone. If they ever open a location in Point Loma I'd probably be there everyday. read more

I was looking for a little 'mo'. Iceskimo is a San Diego original which I first experienced in Kearny Mesa almost four years ago. They've recently added this location in a sprawling Del Mar plaza. Finding that it was not far off my route on a recent trip to the northern part of San Diego, I had to stop by to check it out. Maybe I'm getting older or I'm just a little cynical, but the employees were definitely pretty young. As were much of the other clientele. But I was focused on getting back to the shaved snow, also called xue hua bing back in Taiwan from which it originated. It's been getting very rare in my usual city of residence despite the unique combination of milky flavor and melting thin ice texture. Aside from their bubble waffles, soft serves, and various drinks a la boba establishments, their calling card really is that shaved snow. And their business model is by weight, which they surely augment by offering various toppings. At $0.63 an ounce, this is not cheap at all, so be ready for some sticker shock. They aren't giving snow samples at the moment, so I made the difficult decision to go with a "split flavor" order, which prompted an automatic $1.00 surcharge. I also couldn't risk trying the non-milk fruit flavors, so I had to go with a safe choice and an unfamiliar choice, both of which were frozen into cylinders of ice along with milk. The familiar jasmine milk tea tasted just as expected, and the unfamiliar Vietnamese coffee was rich and sweet, also as expected. The textures were both free of ice crystals, as expected. But the whole experience didn't seem to last long, and a lot of the snow melted in relatively mild whether, perhaps from hot toppings including the boba. Frankly, I wasn't very excited with any of the toppings, not the egg pudding, nor the chewy mochi, nor even the strawberry or cheesecake chunks. I should have kept it simple with the snow and maybe some condensed milk. And it still cost me a pretty penny with the pricing by weight and the +$1.00 for the two flavors. Come to Iceskimo because they have outdoor seating and because this is is a rare variant of a specific type of dessert, and stick to the pure dessert itself. I still want to return next trip down, but I'll just edit my purchase accordingly. read more

This new branch of Iceskimo is located in the Del Mar Highlands Town Center on the ground level in the cluster of food/drink shops near the fountain. The parking situation is much better than that of their original brethren in Kearny Mesa. This store might be slightly smaller in size because they had no indoor seating available, but there were chairs and tables outside so you can enjoy your treat next to the fountain and people watch. Shaved snow is the main product, but they also carried items like bubble waffles, soft serve, milk teas, snow affogato, and even pineapple Dole whip. On this visit, I selected a Tiger Soft Serve with ube ice cream as the base. Brown sugar, boba pearls, and crumbled Oreo cookies were the toppings. It was essentially a custom ice cream sundae. The boba and the Oreos gave the dessert a contrasting texture to the smooth soft serve. Overall, I enjoyed my ice cream enough to give Iceskimo a four star experience. read more

We had been to the convoy location but it had been a few years so we were pleasantly surprised to see this one open up. SERVICE - The cashier who took our order was a firecracker. She had a lot of energy! Perfect for this place. DESSERTS Tiger Soft Serve - Everything I wanted. The soft serve was smooth and creamy. The Oreos gave it great texture. The boba was soft and chewy. No hard centers! I would get this again! Milk Snow w Condensed Milk, Mochi, and Strawberries - The milk flavor was very mild. The condensed milk drizzle gave it a nice sweetness. The mochi was a good combo since it was chewy. We liked this but would probably opt for a different flavor next time. This new branch is located in the Del Mar Highlands Shopping Center next to the escalators and in front of the water fountain where little kids are running through the spray to cool down. This store has more space than their Convoy location but their trademark aqua blue-and-white is still evident at this new branch. There are shared seating areas outside with the other businesses in the vicinity. Since it's the soft opening of their new location, I decided to order something new instead of my usual favorite Bruce Lychee. I settled on the Tiger Soft Serve. This layered cold treat starts with a base of crushed crunchy Oreos and honey drizzle decorating the inside of the cup. Then you can choose to have a single or twist-of-two soft serve swirling up: vanilla, chocolate, ube or Thai tea. This delectable soft treat is topped with boba. Yes to a Summer treat! It was by chance that we visited Iceskimo because my daughter saw patrons with ice cream and now she wanted ice cream. This location is in a prime spot right next to the kids splash pad and trampoline in the lower level of the Highlands. Once you tire your kids out with the splash pad, you fill up with shaved ice cream. I have tried their other location off Convoy and it was delicious so was excited to see this spinoff. Don't get overwhelmed with all the choices because I certainly did! The nice lady behind the counter politely offered her assistance and explained the menu although she spoke at a million miles per second! I opted for the Dutch chocolate shaved ice cream, my daughter got a chocolate vanilla swirl kids cup, and my husband got the ube latte. Really happy Iceskimo opened up in Del Mar. I have been wanting to visit the one in Clairmont Mesa, but it is quite a drive from North County. What I really like to get here is the taro soft serve! Now that the weather is warmer, the soft serve here is a wonderful treat while walking my dog. A couple of times, I tried out their drinks. Many of their drinks are advertised to be made healthier because they do not use powders. The only drink they use powder for is the matcha green tea, because it is real matcha powder. Customers can even by a tin of the matcha powder at Iceskimo. The boba is decent for the drinks. Just like Happy Lemon next door, it is a small place aimed at being takeaway only.
