Sushi Dinner with California Rolls Shrimp and Vegetable Tempura
    Kami S.

My family and I had another FANTASTIC meal here at Ichiban!!! We arrived shortly before it opened at 5:00 PM and there was a crowd of people waiting outside. Despite the crowds, our party of six was seated right away. Chris was an amazing server and got us everything we needed throughout our dining experience. Tom and Masako are always gracious hosts and always make us feel like family. And of course, the food is excellent authentic Japanese food!!,

This is our new favorite family owned restaurant. The owners and staff are all sooooo amazing. They treat every customer like family. The care they put in just amazes me. We made reservations for a large birthday dinner, changed the number of people, then had to change the time, and they were so accommodating. They made the birthday honoree feel special. The food is good but the service is impeccable. A great place for family and large groups. They have food for both adults and children to enjoy.

Gem of a Japanese family restaurant sitting inconspicuously (no signage) in the corner of a large strip mall. Next year is their 40th anniversary and you will be able to see why - good food, friendly service at excellent prices from this original owner who still visits the tables to check on you. Excellent sushi, tempura, teriyaki and all the Japanese favorites in generous portions at still family run restaurant prices. A must try if you are in the area! They also sell their popular salad dressing to go!

Love the food, great service. Prices are great, you get plenty of food that taste delicious. Would recommend this restaurant to everyone.

I hadn't been to Ichiban in nearly 20 years because I had moved, but man, what a gem! I am so glad this place continues to thrive in the community! The food was great, prices were fair, service outstanding, and the restaurant is the same as I remembered it. We ordered the 3 item combo with steak teriyaki, vegetable tempura, and California rolls. The steak had a couple fatty pieces, but otherwise was cooked great. The tempura was literally the best I've ever had. Sooo crispy and light, not overly oily and the vegetables were cooked perfectly. The CA rolls were delicious and fresh. The ONLY (small) complaint I had was that the side of white rice was a bit starchy/gummy. Maybe it had sat or overcooked? We also ordered a rainbow roll, 1 piece of halibut sushi, and 1 piece of eel sushi. It was all amazing and fresh. Good portions for the price. Lastly, the give free edamame for the table and it was perfectly cooked and perfectly salty! Stop supporting all those chains and keep these small, family owned places in business instead! The owner literally walks around to check on you and make sure your experience is perfect. Can't ask for a better night out supporting a place like this!

Edamame when you sit down! Awesome.

Family owned sushi place buried in the back of a plaza. We came right before closing and they couldn't have been nicer or more welcoming. A dish of edamame came right away and we got started on that. For dinner we got 4 pieces of albacore, a spicy tuna roll with soy paper, a tempura udon and a poke bowl. Spicy tuna roll was as expected. Nice spice level. Albacore looked good but my kid ate it all before I had a bite. Udon was a big old bowl with a rich broth. I requested broccoli only for my veggie and they obliged. It came out crispy and piping hot and was a generous portion. My poke bowl I asked to be spicy and no salmon. It comes with tuna, salmon and yellowtail. It was a heaping serving for $19 with chunks of avocado and some cucumber on the side. The yellowtail was a ***touch*** fishy for me- but I'm not a yellowtail fan normally. The tuna was very good and loved the temperature. The gentleman helping us I assume was the owner and he was so friendly with my kids. Even though we were there right before closing I never felt rushed. This place isn't fancy but had a great atmosphere. Would for sure come back!

Staff is more than happy to help you with any other inquiries. They have a three hand rolls for $19 special and five handles for $39. Initially, thinking that this might be a small, I walked out very full after. An easy choice for hand rolls is the Salmon. They give it a generous amount and I clearly enjoyed it so much that I did not give you a picture. I had the scallop hand roll, which was very yummy. The sauce that the scallops are tossed is light and not overpowering at all. My favorite was the Unagi hand roll because they see it right in front of you. With the crunch of this seaweed and Unagi it's better than having Unagi Maki. The spicy yellowtail was given as a compliment and honestly, I was so grateful to have it. After having that dipped into yuzu soy sauce youd be amazed how satisfied you feel. For three people with no alcohol and only hand rolls it came out to about $75.

We had calamari, corn ribs, steak tacos, king roll, dragon roll, pork belly bowl, and everything was well-cooked and tasty. The hot sauce they give is hot, fair warning! We visited on a weekday evening for dinner and found that the restaurant had largely retained the same look and layout from its days as TAPS. The restaurant was nearly empty, with only a couple of other occupied tables during our visit. While the menu offered a variety of options, it looked limited and, more importantly, significantly overpriced. Signature rolls ranged from $24 to $26, and even a simple pork-and-rice dish was priced at $25. We ordered the Chicken Tequila Cream Pasta, the Dragon Roll, and two fish tacos. Unfortunately, this is where the experience took a disappointing turn. The Dragon Roll, despite its premium price, looked very basic, consisting mostly of rice with very little filling. The quality and presentation reminded me of sushi from a grocery store counter. The Chicken Tequila Cream Pasta was essentially chicken Alfredo with red bell peppers, served with a slice of basic buttered toast. The fish tacos were another letdown. For $16, the plate included only two small tacos with no rice, beans, or side dishes, just the tacos themselves. To make the experience even more unpleasant, there were no complimentary appetizers, such as bread or edamame, to enjoy while waiting for the meal. The food overall was underwhelming and did not justify the prices being charged. The one bright spot was the service, which was friendly and attentive throughout our visit. Overall, Geisha failed to deliver the quality or value its prices suggest. Save yourself the time and money and visit virtually any other restaurant in downtown Brea instead. You'll thank me later.

Great First Experience and Delicious Ramen!…read more This was my first time trying this ramen spot, and I was surprised to find out it was so close to my workplace. I came here with my coworkers for lunch after a training session, and I'm glad we decided to give it a try. We started with several appetizers: the Spicy Handmade Wontons, Kimchi, and Shishito Peppers. Everything was excellent. The kimchi was perfectly prepared with just the right amount of seasoning. The flavors enhanced the fermented cabbage without overpowering it. The shishito peppers were lightly flash-fried and seasoned with lemon and salt, giving them a nice balance of flavor and texture. They still retained their natural pepper taste and weren't overly greasy. The spicy handmade wontons were also packed with flavor and made a great start to the meal. For my entrée, I ordered the California Tonkotsu ramen without spice so I could fully appreciate the broth. I'm glad I did because the soup was rich, creamy, and full of depth. The pork was incredibly tender and practically melted in my mouth. The egg was cooked perfectly, with a soft yolk that complemented the richness of the broth beautifully. Overall, I had a great dining experience. The prices were reasonable for the quality and portion sizes, the service was attentive and friendly, and there was plenty of parking available. Everything from the appetizers to the ramen exceeded my expectations. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for quality ramen, and I'll absolutely be back to try more items on the menu!
