I absolutely love this place! We've been coming to this location for a very long time and the food is always delicious. You can also get cheap sushi on certain days of the week! We double date here every so often with some friends and always leave full and happy. The service is usually pretty good. We prefer to skip the hibachi experience since it's that "if you've seen one, you've seen them all" sort of thing, though it's fun with bigger groups. The regular prices aren't the cheapest but they also aren't the most expensive, and for what you pay, you get large portions. I love to order the Combination Dinner with double steak and no mushrooms because I always have leftovers to take home... The veggies and fried rice are SO good! Overall, great food and good service. My husband and I have been coming to Ichibon since we moved to the area. We go to the Egret Bay location because I have had bad experiences with the fried rice at the Kemah location (tastes like it has dirt in it). Unfortunately, we went on Friday night. They were giving each table a free sample of the spicy crab salad (my favorite). My husband ordered a shaggy dog roll, and near the end of his roll I noticed he was picking the crab on top off. I asked him why, and he said it didn't taste right. We both now have food poisoning. This makes me very sad, because Ichibon has always been my favorite sushi restaurant, and we will not be returning. read more

Placed to go order. When we got home all meat was rare and horrible chewey with no taste. Vegetables must have been sitting in kitchen for an hour were in recognizable. Also got charged for extras which are not on the menu added up to 18 extra dollars. I consider myself something of a sushi connoisseur, given that I have eaten at well over a hundred different sushi restaurants in the past ten years, and I must say (based on my one visit) Ichibon serves some decent sushi considering their overall low prices. I ate dinner there last week, having selected them over the superior (and pricier) nearby Masa Sushi, mainly thanks to their $1 sushi special (served 4-10 pm, Wednesdays). To start this thing off, I would like to congratulate Ichibon on offering some of the most flavorful smoked salmon nigiri I have ever had the pleasure of tasting. Their peppercorn tuna was also very well prepared. As far as cons go, it seemed to me that their rice was a bit too sticky and a bit on the mushy side, but I suppose that is pretty standard for restaurants in this price range. Also, I did ask my waitress to add cream cheese to on of my rolls (I don't recall the name, but it had shrimp tempura, snow crab and avocado), and they ended up adding about twice as much as would have been necessary. Other than that, co complaints. The atmosphere was nice too, though a little on the dark side. read more

Delicious. My boyfriend and I went here for a quick dinner before our movie. The service was good. They had a fantastic sushi happy hour menu. The food was ok, the service from the wait staff was so very sad. We could not get drinks refilled, ordered sushi and after 30-45 minutes we cancelled the order as there was no mention of it being on its way. The restaurant was not very crowded, but there were other groups who obviously had the waitress' attention. Happened to have been in the mood for this style of cooking that night and I talked my friends into trying this place because it was closer than going to another that we had good experiences with in the past. My mistake! I've been to this location for other events in the past, sushi at the bar and private events, but not for the Hibachi type meal - and now I know why. I ate here last night and got my feelings hurt. I was in the mood for sushi and figured this place would be great as I've eaten at the grill and I had a great meal. The sushi was good, but the service was bad. After taking our order, the waiter decided to ignore us for the rest of time. We ordered a couple of rolls, but wanted to try a couple of more rolls. He would check on the tables behind us, but not us. After making eye contact and sitting there with empty plates, another waiter finally checked on us. We just simply asked for the check. Love the salad here, the dressing and tempura crunchies were yummy!!the filets were very tender and juicy, the chicken teriyake was tasty, portions are good, prices for the entertainment with the dining experience are actually reasonable. They told us it would be a 20 minute wait. We thought no big deal, we will order sushi and have a drink... we waited an hour at the hibachi table for a cook to come prepare the food. We had to get up from the hibachi table and go to the bar just to get a drink. By the time the cook came to prepare the food, I wasn't even hungry. :-(. Disappointed. :-( read more

Awesome happy hour specials. Very solid sushi as well, always tastes quite fresh. As others have noted, the staff can be hit or miss. Some of them seem very unhappy, one guy in particular. Also, I have had trouble calling later in the evening or perhaps during busy times for take out. Twice I have been left on hold indefinitely. But for the most part, the staff is lovely and efficient. Our server was very sweet and always made sure our waters were full and we didn't need anything else. They don't have anything special as for sushi no uni, live scallop, couch.
