I really liked how I got to customize my ramen. The order form asks you if you want a lot or a little oil, salt, spice, etc, and how you want your noodles cooked. It came out just the way I like it, and their special spice was very flavorful. The server was friendly and nice even though I screwed up my order form. I never saw his face though--this is the unique part of the dining experience. There is a panel between you and the servers and you can order without ever speaking to anyone if you want. Despite the sparse toppings, the broth and fresh noddles are almost unmatched in quality. As for service, the kae dama took over 20 minutes because they lost my order, and did not even take it off my bill. This left me with cold broth with my noodles. The flavors are amazing and they let you "customize" your ramen down to the very smallest detail (richness, spiciness, noodle quantity, etc). but... Like other people have said there is certainly ramen that is just as good or better in Brooklyn for about half the price (I've walked out for about $35 most times). Went to Ichiran when another popular place had a 90 minute wait. We only had to wait 10-15 minutes maybe less and then we were seated at the bar seats against the wall. The place was packed. This one room operation is churning out some delicious ramen. We both ordered the standard pork broth Tonkotsu ramen and a couple of fried chicken buns. The ramen was flavorful and the noodles were good. I didn't notice there was no egg included in the bowl. So make sure you add the egg on the order. I just believe this should be included and should not have to pay extra for it. Regardless ramen sans-egg was the right thing for such a cold evenings. The fried chicken bun was ok, a bit chewy for fried chicken I definitely would not order the chicken bun again. Service was quick, nice and helpful. read more

I love that they have individual stalls for eating solo and ordering is very easy. Downsides are the price, which is quite steep for a bowl of ramen that doesn't provide much in ways of veggies or meat even if you take tipping out of the equation (tipping is not accepted here), and the fact that you have to get up and search for napkins after slurping soup all over my face (yes, this is how I eat). The food was delicious and the option to get extra noodles and other things is great but it didn't blow me away nor did it justify a $30 meal. Didn't even get dessert lol RIDICULOUSLY OVER PRICED******* If you are that passionate to eat here that much- Make a cute lil savings account and fly to Japan for a week for ramen tour instead. I won't say it's 4 stars, I'll give it a 3.5 if I can. Location: Finding parking is pretty convenient around the area. There are a lot of parking spots on a Sunday night, which is great! My boyfriend and I went on a Sunday night, got there around 6:50 pm. We waited about 10minutes outside and 5 minutes inside before we got seated in the booth area. Probably we just made it before the time everyone comes for dinner because when we left around 7:40, the line was quite long. Environment: They offer both table and booth seating. I really enjoyed the booth seating, it's more isolated and quiet. I really like how the booth offers you to eat alone or have the dividers down to eat with your significant other. I also really love the vibe and the decoration of this ramen joint. Service: While sitting in the booth area, you don't have much of the face to face interaction with your waiter/waitress. It was definitely a new experience for me; having someone talk to me without actually seeing their face. There were a few times where i couldn't really here what they were saying and had to ask them to repeat, but that's not a big deal. Service was still relatively great. Ramen was served fairly quick upon ordering. Food: I really like the fact how you get to choose your ramen from beginning to end. From how strongly you want your broth is to the amount of scallion and garlic you want added to your ramen. The broth itself was really delicious, but a tad bit salty for my liking. If I do come back, I'll choose the option light for both broth and richness rather than medium. I love the fact when I asked for firm noodles, my noodles were in fact firm, just the way I like it. Additional add on for other items are priced fairly high and unreasonable. For example, 2 cloves of garlic for $2... garlic isn't that expensive at a supermarket.... Overall: 3.5/5 stars. Went on a Tuesday for lunch, the famous infamous long line was nowhere to be seen but there were several group of people with their luggage coming out from Uber cars going in there while I was waiting for my friend outside. Expensive but very good--for a soda and a bowl of ramen (without additions) it was $25.91. I went for lunch by myself on a rainy day and there was absolutely no wait at all for the solo booths. I am a fan. I came here twice, the first time I sat at the individual booths, and the second time we sat at a table. The booth seating was definitely a fun experience. The menu is like a check-off list where you get to choose your broth style, how spicy you want the soup, the amount of garlic and how hard you want your noodles to be. There's only one type of broth itself, but it was delicious. There was no wait to get seating both times I came, but it was on a weeknight around 6 PM. My friends and I had the opportunity to try the "religious experience" of Ichiran ramen and while the ramen tasted very good compared to many other ramen places I've tried, the price vs. overall experience was a little steep. Maybe I should have tried the individual seating on the other side of the restaurant for the full authentic experience. One bowl of ramen runs $18.50, and you can customize how you want your ramen by thickness of broth, softness of noodle, scallions or none, level of spiciness, how much garlic, etc. My friends and I eached ordered their special egg as well, which is another $3 or so. We thought it was going to be added into our ramen, but quickly realized when they just brought out the egg, that you are supposed to eat it separately as a way to clear your palette. We also ordered a side of pork belly with roasted seaweed for roughly $10. They were thin and came with a few pieces, enough to share. The service was wonderful. The employees tried to give us an authentic experience by greeting you in Japanese and such. They were very attentive to us, especially since we were the only ones there on a Wednesday during lunch time. The decor was very nice, with wooden tables and walls. Not surprising that it has a Japanese theme, of course! Overall, I'm glad I was able to experience this place. One thing is for certain...the broth is delicious! Once you sit down, the food comes very quickly. It's great that you can customize your ramen order however you like. I was probably done with my entire meal in about 20 minutes. Since I am a slow eater, the firmness of my noodles decreased over time (womp) and comparing it to the other order of firm noodles at my table, the firmness did not seem to be the same. Be careful with the tare (spice)! It gives you a nice kick in the back of your throat and may bring about an uncontrolled bout of coughing. Got extra noodles for additional $4 and I was still forced to eat top ramen when I get back home. Smh The location is what I hate the most about the place. It is located in a very industrial area with graffiti EVERYWHERE. I came here around 9:30pm and was scared to death walking in the neighborhood. You would think that all the money they made they could use it and invest in a nice real estate in downtown Manhattan or something. But no they chose a lousy neighborhood in the middle of no where. We went on the first day opening since there has been a huge hype about Ichiran Ramen coming to New York. As a party of two, my friend and I got there at 2:30pm, and waited outside in the giant line for about an hour to get seated. The line actually moves pretty quickly since this is basically a fast food establishment. We chose to sit in the individual booth section, the board separating each booth could be taken off easily, that was kind of the fun part. The Ichiran order system is designed for customers to have minimal contact with its staff, so after we circled how we want our ramen, we just pushed the sheet upfront and the staff took the order from the work station lying in the middle of two individual booth rooms. The topping choice was pretty limited and, as the other yelpers said, missing the most important item aka egg, for $18.9 (tip included), you get the most basic tonkotsu ramen combination: two pieces of chashu, green onion, and their special hot sauce. The ramen itself is pretty solid, since I selected the medium richness, the broth wasn't too oily. After that, we had the green tea annin tofu and that dessert was just ok, too sweet for annin tofu in my standard. Since they messed up our orders in the beginning, my friend's annin tofu took about fifteen minutes to come after we pushed the call button twice. The Shikaibicha tea beverage was good, but just like the $10 annin tofu, not sure if it worth the five dollar price tag. It was an overall positive experience for us since Ichiran is still getting their act together on the opening day. We definitely felt the hype after seeing a bunch of press including fox news showed up. But does it worth to take the L train and going through the long line (you can cut the line by getting $150 ramen pack)? Maybe not. read more

Definitely a fan of Ichiran and I'm not a huge ramen person. $20 and some change for a bowl of ramen is a bit on the expensive side but it was good. Make sure you're waiting on the right line.. Somehow, we were on the tables line and got seated BUT the waiters were kind enough to re-seat us at the booths with a five minute wait. Came by Friday around 2ish and only waited 5mins on each line. The divider was locked down with a knob and despite not knowing how, you can fiddle with it and get it to work. Their concept of booth was to promote eating alone and savoring the bowl of ramen in a quiet place. But of course, it was a bunch of chatter. If you don't understand the menu, you can just ask the waiter.. Despite the concept of the paper menu... :D But yes, on with the food review.. The soup was amazingggg.
