Taking off one star for $$$ it's really pricey for a bowl and in total my meal came out to $45 dollars with tea and dessert. Now onto the food.. the broth and noodles itself were delicious I cannot go back to other ramen places. Yes it is not similar to Japan but overall the quality is still #1 in my book. I went for strong flavor, medium richness, additional garlic with scallions and meat. The meat was tender very flavorful and the noodles were firm just how I wanted it. If you have some room in your belly get the green tea tofu. One complaint I had was the egg! The makes the whole ramen complete and I cannot wait till they master this and put it on the menu. There are a lot of ramen stores in NYC but this is my favorite one! You can choose the way you want to be cooked including its richness, noodle texture...etc. which means it totally goes with your flavor! Overhyped and overpriced. Decent bowl of ramen, but this restaurant focuses more on delivering an experience than a quality dish. One star for the tonkotsu, two stars for the solo booth dining which divided me and my partner. $4 kaedama is a bit obnoxious. Finally, I made it to Ichiran in Brooklyn. I could never justify the amount of money charged here but given I recently received a little birthday money, I figured if not now, then when? Let's start by saying the ramen here is good. Let me also premise that observation with another, that the ramen does NOT live up to the hype. Now I love ramen. But it was not worth the 26 dollars I paid for a bowl, even with a coupon for a free noodle refill. So there are a couple of positives. They are running a promotion where you can get a free noodle refill. That's nice. They also apparently fixed the egg situation. It is not hard boiled anymore but soft boiled, with the yolk soft. That is a massive improvement over the hard boiled nonsense they offered. They are also offering until the end of august for kids to eat free. That's nice. They also offered a dessert which was creme caramel, basically it looked like a flan, they aren't offering the green tea dessert they usually offered. I did not get one because I'm not paying almost 8 bucks for what is basically flan. The pork is delicious and again, the soup is good, but not great. I would have given it 4 stars but I cannot justify spending 26 dollars (would have been 30 dollars if I didn't get the free noodle refill) for a bowl of ramen soup. I'm glad I tried it, but until the price comes down, I won't be back. There are other ramen places as good or better for half the price. read more

This place is a favorite of mine and my husband's, so much that we would make the 45 minute drive just to eat here every so often. You can customize your tonkatsu ramen to just the way you like it, with extra spice, richness, garlic, noodle firmness, and more. This, plus the solo eating booths (which you can move the divider if you're eating with a friend), makes eating here an enjoyable experience. Plus, the way that it's set up means that you don't have to interact with the wait staff unless you want to. I don't understand all the negative reviews about this place, especially concerning price. Yes, it's expensive, but it's really good ramen and it's basically a Japanese import. Prices are comparable to that of Ippudo's and other ramen places, but Ippudo's prices seem more daunting because tip is already built into the prices. Best ramen in New York. I get everything recommend except the noodles. I like them soft. I always order extra noodles and meat afterwards. FYI- they allow more than 1 refill. Was very disappointed. I've eaten Ichiran hundreds of times in Osaka and was expecting some great ramen here as well. Besides being double the price in NYC, the portions were much smaller, and frankly not very good. At the risk of sounding horrifically cliche; the shops in Japan are phenomenal, but this one left me feeling incredibly disappointed. Small portions; meat was incredibly bland and way too tender, fell apart in the broth immediately, egg was not boiled not salted well, noodles felt like they were microwaved and so on. I wasn't expecting it to be as good as in Japan, but for the double the price, much smaller portions, the decline in taste is frankly unacceptable. Save your money and eat at one of the many great ramen joints in NYC that aren't relying on the success of their far superior shops on the other side of the world. read more

We were given a menu where we were able to customize our ramen to our liking. The ramen was amazing. Broth tasted amazing. The chashu was very flavorful. Kinda bummed about the hard boiled egg. Was hoping I'd have a soft boiled one with the ramen and a nice runny yolk but it's okay because the ramen was so flavorful and rich. In my opinion I believe it's over priced. Once the order was sent to the kitchen, we got our food quickly. I ordered the recommended set. It was good. But it was not $21.89 good. There was a good amount of food in the bowl. I ordered the extra egg which was a good choice. I even ordered the extra noodle in case there was not enough (it was free). I ate 1/2 of the extra noodle. I got an extra side of pork, seaweed, and the tonkotsu egg. All of which were great especially the egg, but would have preferred if it was soft boiled. The servers were helpful and were very prompt.
