Very good, LOTS of frosting and remarkably moist. The chocolate cupcake is a must!! UPDATE! I'm officially addicted!!! These cupcakes are delicious, went back to try some more flavor and fell in LOVE with the snickerdoodle. This cupcake is extremely moist and cinnamony :) and the frosting is a delectable cream cheese frosting sprinkled with cinnamon sugar on top of it. I used Icing on the Cupcake for my wedding cut cake and cupcakes and had an amazing experience! I had contacted Icing on the Cupcake early on in my wedding planning and never heard back from them. I was very discouraged and let down because they are my favorite cupcakes! As we went along tasting other cakes, nothing was quite right. I was informed that Icing on the Cupcake was under new management and recontacted them about my wedding and was pleased to find that they were extremely responsive and helpful! We scheduled a free cake tasting which exceeded expectations. The staff was very knowledgeable and helpful. Throughout the experience I was pleased with how accommodating they were, that they updated us every step of the way, they even delivered to my venue that was a bit out of the way. Extremely disappointed with my experience this afternoon! I had a coupon for $2 chocolate cupcakes. Arrived at 1:30 and was told They were sold out of chocolate cupcakes, although the pinkalicious chocolate cupcakes were sitting in the window. The employee tells me that they were Only for the chocolate on chocolate and while Supplies last- which it was never mentioned in the coupon. If you have a coupon that is while Supplies last and limited quantity, it would be nice to include that info. So for future reference- coupons can be misleading at this business. read more

I admit I was a bit nervous to try a cupcake from a bakery that is not dedicated a gluten free facility. Several of my celiac friends have eaten cupcakes from here and had no problems so I figured why not give it a try. Each day they offer 1 gluten free cupcake option. I like how they kept (at the Rocklin location) the gluten free cupcakes in a separate covered cake stand and not mixed in with the rest of the cupcakes. The employee who took my order put on a new pair of gloves and a clean tray. And when she got the gluten-free cupcakes out she asked if they could be put in the same box with any other cupcakes I was going to purchase. I was only purchasing gluten-free cupcakes so of course the gluten-free cake could go in the same box together but I like that they are aware of the need to separate gluten-free from the non-gluten-free cupcakes. My only concern is when I asked about the ingredients and the cupcakes the lady was very hesitant to give me any information. She said it is their secret recipe and they cannot share it. While I understand that I was not looking to re-create the recipe, I needed to know what the ingredients were to make sure that it didn't contain any other potential ingredients that I was allergic to. So instead of telling me the ingredients she asked what else was I allergic to and then she went into the back and asked someone else about if that particular allergen was in the ingredients. I think if I probably was very concerned that a manager would've come out and talked with me about the ingredients. On the day that I went the gluten-free option was confetti cupcake. This is a vanilla cupcake with sprinkles mixed into the cake batter. The frosting was a cream cheese base with sprinkles on top. (Just an FYI they did tell me that the sprinkles do contain soy if that is a concern for you.) The cupcake was delicious, it also had a nice moist cake texture. It's certainly was not lacking in size. It was as big if not bigger than the non-gluten-free cupcakes and is not something you see very often. I have previously been in to get get cupcakes in the past when I am passing through Rocklin, so I wanted to stop in this last weekend while my husband & I were going to the foothills for a weekend of camping for my birthday. I was a bit disappointed to learn that my favorite cupcake (Raspberry Lemonade) is seasonal & is only available in June & July. However, if a person wants a specific cupcake that is made only certain months they can order them as long as they order the minimum which is a dozen cupcakes. I didn't do that, nor did I need 12 cupcakes, so j decided to get some other ones I hadn't tried before. So, I got the peach blueberry & the Bavarian creme filled yellow cupcake. I want a fan of the Bavarian creme, bit I think it was more about me not loving honey flavor that it had. The cupcake would probably be very popular to someone who is big on honey & eclairs. It just tasted different than I expected. The peach blueberry was fantastic & is a close second to my all time favorite, Raspberry Lemonade. All in all I was very happy, again. read more

Okay let me start by saying this is not a review of the cupcakes themselves, this is a review of my experience there today. I went in to purchase 3 cupcakes, for 3 individuals at work. When the lady asked if they could all go in one box, I asked for 3 single boxes - for the 3 cupcakes I purchased. She informed me that the first two boxes were complimentary but any additional boxes would be 0.25. Excuse me? Now if I had purchased 2 cupcakes and asked for 3 single boxes I would understand the additional charge - but if I'm buying 3 cupcakes for $9.65 and asking for single boxes for them - you know what - you should give the 3 boxes without charging me extra for one. That's just nickel and diming your customers. I'm already overpaying for a cupcake that you've already priced to include your overhead i.e. boxes. Now you have to charge me again. The 0.25 isn't the issue - it's the principle. Thinking I'll be trying out Smallcakes from now on. read more

As far as cupcakes go, icing on the cupcake is great..... IF you are a fan of gourmet cupcakes. I honestly prefer having just a moist homemade cupcake, but I have lots of friends that love theres. The red velvet and snickerdoodle are my favorite and i also really like the lemon curd filled one. I finally liked their facebook page and have noticed a few "specials" that they run, so i think that is worth it. SO my family went here to get some pricing on cupcakes for my son's 1st birthday party. The customer service we encountered was good, however there is a minium you have to order, and that was ok, except when we went back to place our order a week later we got a different price on the same items we had talked about. Had this place a handful of times, it's an office favorite for birthdays and just because. They're moist and delicious covered in a whole lot of frosting and let's be honest that's all were here for anyway. Pretty consistently good stuff. The only one I didn't like was the raspberry lemon one, the cake part had the consistency of cornbread, not sure if I missed a gluten free label or something but it was a bit disappointing. Between that, the frosting and the raspberry filling it was all a bit much. But that was one time out of many. I remember the first time I saw someone order it, I was so perplexed. What is this? What did they get? How did they know? So many questions. Of course I asked and they told me they sold their icing. I was upset when this Rocklin location closed a while back but now am excited it has reopened. I love going to get my favorite Red Velvet & Carrot cupcake. The frosting on it is just yummm and the cake is so moist. I usually go during the weekday in the afternoon and the place always has a line with bunch of kids, grandparents and soccer moms. CUPCAKES during COVID! Big shout out to the gang at Icing on the Cupcake! With Covid we have a skeleton crew working in the office, in masks, and socially distancing. We are not allowed to have shared food, like baked goods in the break room. This week a coworker was having a birthday and we had another coworker get a big promotion. So someone zipped over to Icing on the Cupcake and ordered a dozen assorted cupcakes and asked for them to be individually boxed. I enjoyed my previous visit to the location on the other side of town, so I was very excited to find out that they put a location in by the scrapbook store that I love to frequent when I come out to visit my mom. The cupcakes are always done just right, with just the right amount of frosting to the amount of cake. This visit I had the flavor of the month which was a neopolitan cupcake. I loved this cupcake! A light, flavorful vanilla cake surrounding a rich chocolate filling, topped with a fresh strawberry frosting. You could taste the fresh strawberries in the frosting! Delicious. I would highly recommend it. Driving by, I was thrilled to see that they occupied the whole building as the other location felt small to me. I loaded up my kids, my niece, and my mom and took them to get cupcakes on my mom's birthday, but I was sorely disappointed to find out that the only seating available in the place were 4 bar stools in an already small, claustrophobic retail space. For all of that building, the customer facing space is probably half the size of the other location! If the would include more dining space I would be able to give 5 stars, but as it is now, it's definitely a take-home sort of place. read more
