Family dinner tonight at Taj-e-Chaat and I was not disappointed. My father in law had already been here on several different occasions and ranted and raved about how great the food was, so I was excited to be in the area and try it as well. We walked in and it was pretty empty. I felt sorry for the older woman, who happened to be the only cook and I believe the younger girl was her daughter. I'm happy that they are still open serving customers during these trying times with ownership of a business. The food is cooked fresh and despite the lack of staff, the food still came out at a reasonable time, hot and tasty. We all ordered, Samosa Chaat, Butter Chicken, Daal Makhani, Malai Kofta, Tandoori Chicken, Plain and Garlic Naan and Aloo Naan (Potato Naan). Everything was delicious. Customer service was friendly I will add. I can appreciate small businesses like this that take their time to put the love in to the food. Don't hesitate to check them out. read more

Wow! I was driving to my hotel and needed gas. As I drove through I noticed there was a bunch of Indian restaurants. I quickly Yelped the closest ones and this one was highly rated. Thank you all who have come before me and did your reviews. As Someone from out of town I really appreciate it. I ordered the Chicken Tiki Combo Plate with Garlic Naan and a Mango Lassi. This was hands down the BEST mango Lassi I have ever had! Check the insane color! It was so good! The chicken and rice was on point and super spicy as I requested! The garlic naan pictures do it no justice ! It was so good! So crispy and delicious It was weird there were no napkins anywhere so please if you are reading this owner, straighten that part out. I'm surprised to see this place being rated so low. Our favorite go to spot increased in their prices and decreased the portion sizes. We wanted bigger bangs for our bucks since we got two hungry teenagers to feed. I decided to check this place out. The curry that we ordered had so much meat and I think it was around $12(with taxes). I forgot to take pics; we were too hungry and dug right in. The food was really good. This past Saturday, May 4, 2024 I stopped at Taj-e-Chaat in Fremont to pick up some snacks. I bought 2 plates of bhature chhole and one order of aloo tikki chaat. The order was fine till my kids started eating and found a piece of a meat with skin on in chhole. It's really gross to find such an object specially when you are vegetarian. I think it's gross for non-veg eaters also. I called taj-e-chaat and made the lady aware of this incident and she said.... Are you sure it was not a tomato chunk! I said... No lady I know the difference between tomato chunk and meat! All my 3 orders had one common item....chhole! The lady said I can give you the same order with no charge. I went to an event in the Fremont area and was craving some Gol Gappe/Pani Puri. I came across Taj-e-chaat on yelp. They're open till 10:30 so my sister and I decided to stop by. We ordered pani puri and Papri Chaat. The Pani for the pani poori was one of the best I have had. The papri chaat was good but it was a bit sweet. There was too much sugar in the yogurt. I also had to add the green chutney myself and wish there was some onions in there. Anyways, overall I thought whatever we ordered was pretty tasty. I will definitely be returning the next time I am in the area to try more of their food. Side note : the bathrooms could use some upkeep. Granted it was the end of the day, the bathroom smelled pretty bad and wasn't clean. read more

Food as always had real authentic Indian flavors and was neither spiced with whole spices or oily (like some Pakistani places around here). This place is a staple, and everyone is very friendly, welcoming, and accommodating! Along with pretty much all their chaats and appetizers (personal favorites are mixed chaat followed by papdi chaat, and the chicken tikka kabob if you eat chicken), their kadhai paneer and garlic naan is excellent, second to basically none in the area, though the quality of the paneer does vary and sometimes its not quite as spicy and flavorful as usual (e.g., creamy and sweet instead of the wok hei kadhai flavor that the dish requires!). Their veg biryani tastes more like a vegetable stir fry tossed together with some minimally seasoned rice (at least as of the last time I ordered it) with not enough spices, so you're probably better off skipping on that and just cooking some plain rice at home. Also ask for the green chutney--it's the perfect green refreshing sour zing to complement anything you get from here! The only other downside with this place is their recent increase in price, which can make it difficult to justify ordering from here quite as often as I would otherwise, as well as the relatively high wait time (often higher than the approximate wait time given). As an aside, there isn't too much space to sit and eat right in the restaurant, so from what I can tell most people (including me) do go with takeout, though from my dine-in experiences I'll tell you the naan retains a bit more of that khasta (crispy outside) restaurant quality from not being wrapped in the aluminum foil if that's what you're into (personally with naan I'm way more into softness and good with either!). For the overall great experiences with the food and the vibes I'd honestly give it 5 stars, but for the inconsistency and the price increase I'll go down to 4. I would recommend trying it out and the spicy wrap is delicious and you can taste the flavors of the tandoori chicken. The aloo tiki chaat is also very good. I am still in search for my go-to spot and this was something to check out as I was driving through the neighborhood. They were pretty busy, but the wait wasn't long. Looks like they do a lot of to-go orders because the seating area is not real warm and welcoming, but the kitchen was super busy!!! They run a quick ship pumping out all the orders. Food came out hot, fresh, and flavorful. Lamb curry was good, but very tough and chewy. Same for the Tandoori kabobs. Garlic naan was nice and fluffy and full of fresh garlic, really good. The service today seriously broke my heart. For context, we order from this restaurant several times a week and have for years. Given this we've gotten used to the food and can tell when something is off. We dined in tonight and the young man at the counter took care of us. We ordered the chicken tikka masala and naan - the usual. Our food was extremely salty. We told the guy repeatedly that it was and he didn't replace it nor did he remove it from the receipt. Instead when my mom voiced her concerns he said "well you're gonna get charged for it anyway" super condescendingly. Look, we totally understand that food can differ day to day and ultimately it's not about the taste but how we were treated. If a restaurant loses its ability to maintain relationships with its customers ultimately they lose their business. I don't see the owners super active on Yelp but if you do happen to read this please don't damage the reputation of your restaurant by treating customers poorly. Do the right thing and the business will come to you tenfold. The ego of the young man at the counter today damaged a customer relationship that was built for years. Extremely unfortunate. read more

New favorite local spot for Indian food! I'm not an expert in Indian food and admittedly order pretty standard Indian dishes, but I enjoyed everything I ordered: - Samosa plate: Comes with two in an order. Crispy and tasty. - Chicken tikka masala and butter chicken: Both were so rich and satisfying. Both sauces were so delicious. I liked the butter chicken more than the chicken tikka masala but would definitely order both again. - Chana masala: I ended up ordering this because they didn't have aloo gobi. Not bad, just not my favorite out of everything I ordered. - Garlic naan: Super fragrant as soon as I opened up the foil. I appreciate that the garlic wasn't faint like I've had at other restaurants. Wish it was a little fluffier but still really good. - Aloo paratha: First time trying this and loved how flaky it was. One order is more than enough for two. The spiciness of everything was just right for me. We ordered takeout and it was still piping hot once we got home. It took a few minutes to get through on the phone (seems like they're busy which is great) on a Saturday afternoon, but the guy that answered was really friendly and thorough. I currently live in Hawaii and we do not have many or good Indian places. I grew up in California around a lot of Indian people and restaurants so I think I know what good Indian food is.
