I went to IHOP on a Friday morning for a breakfast. This location was cleanand conveniently located next to Ballston Metro Station. I chose 2 overeasy eggs with 2 Turkey bacon and 2 pancakes. Pros: Everything was prompt and tasted good. The hostess was extremely attentive and proactive in our needs. Her attitude was bright and it really added to our experience. Cons: the place is small, so during busy times expect long wait. Also, their parking lot is small and parking around here can be difficult sometimes. I have been to this IHOP at least 3 different times and had take out twice. My most recent takeout experience was quite impressive. I placed my order through the IHOP website. I recommend doing that as they have promo codes available. I ordered the seasonal pancake combo, the spicy poblano omelette, and a side of hickory smoked bacon. I went in to pick up my order. It was ready when I got there. The hostess asked if I wanted any additional condiments. Then I was on my way. When I got home and opened my order I was very pleased. The containers used by IHOP are NICE! They have clear lids so you can see the food and have different compartments for different items. For example, my combo was in one container that had my eggs, hash browns, and meat on the bottom and my pancakes on top in an attached container. How nice is that? That kept my pancakes nice and fluffy without them touching my other items. Now for the food, it was great! I ordered the pumpkin pancakes. They were lovely, soft, fluffy, not overly pumpkin flavored just right. They tasted better than the regular ones to me. Oh, I did try their new sweet and spicy syrup I had to ask the hostess for it because I couldn't order it online. The syrup tasted like syrup with cayenne pepper in it. I would not recommend it except maybe for chicken and waffles. The side items tasted great. The eggs done just right, the hash browns, and bacon were not burnt or overly crispy. The omelette was a good portion and delicious. They didn't skimp on the avocado. The one thing I'll say is maybe the meat in the omelette could be more flavorful, and juicy. It seemed a bit dry. However, all in all it was a great experience. This neighborhood IHOP is one of the good eggs of the company. I'd say stop in or order if in the mood for some good IHOP food. I did appreciate all of the pictures for each menu item. Almost two years ago, I wrote the following as a review of the IHOP in Chantilly, Virginia: -------------------------------------- First, this is the only place open all night (24 hours a day, every day) in this part of Chantilly. But that is not the only reason to go. The restaurant is rather clean (and VERY clean for an "open 24 hours" option). The servers are nice and competent, and the food comes out fast. It is IHOP food, so standard "chain rules" apply to reading this review of mine (see my other reviews of chain steakhouses and such, which to some degree apply to chain restaurants in general). The food is like that at all IHOP's, though it is prepared well, within that range. If you like IHOP food, you will like it here. There are lighter options (a salad, omelets with only vegetables in them, etc.) if you want that (and that too will be prepared well, if you order it). Don't order anything even a little off-menu, like a grilled cheese sandwich, they will screw it up. But, if you like (or really like) IHOP food, prepared consistent (and consistently good), and especially if you need dinner at, say, 3:30 AM, you cannot do better than this place, in Chantilly. And even when it is light outside, and you just want to eat pancakes or something, this is a good option. I wondered about the score I was gonna give. I would have given them 3.5 stars if I could have. But, because of the rules of the grading matrix here at Yelp, I gave them 4 stars. They certainly deserve a higher score than 2.5 stars. Late at night, you should stop by! ------------------------------------- Everything at **this** IHOP is about as good as what I describe above. The service may be (even) a little better. Obviously, there are more late night/all night options in Clarendon/Ballston (than in Chantilly!). I cannot really make a comparison on somewhat off-menu items, between the Chantilly IHOP and the North Arlington IHOP, because I have never ordered anything off-menu here. I ate breakfast here three days in a row, sometimes with coworkers, yet today the manager, who told me his name was Thor, harrassed me, asking me how long I was going to take to finish eating. He told me people were waiting for the table (a booth) and I was taking too long. I was finishing eggs and about to get to the pancakes. I had been there about 45 minutes, which included waiting for service and food preparation. He falsely claimed I was there for 2 hours. I told him I got up early and got there early on purpose to avoid the after Church rush. Plus I waited about 20 minutes the day before and about an hour another time in the past. After he asked me the question I told him the answer was when I was done and could not rush or I'd get sick, therefore I could not give him an accurate answer but estimated about 15 minutes. When I first moved to the US, iHop was the very first diner I went to they had me at steak omelette. Some two years later, iHop is not as magical to me because I have eaten at other diners since then, but at least this location is reliably sufficient. Split Decision combo and breakfast combo with potatoes substituted for hash browns were both good, but somehow I found my Split Decision not very filling. The split booth set up here is kind of weird to me, if only because it greatly reduces the seat space. Luckily neither of us is huge, but some diners might find these split booths way too cramped. We stopped into this 24/7 joint before we headed out to Inauguration festivities, because it was right next to the Ballston Metro station, and because we knew we needed carbs and calories to power through all of the standing, waiting, watching, and being American we were about to be doing. It was nearly empty, save for a few other Inauguration goers, but that was at 6am on a Monday that was also a holiday. Service was fast and friendly, and the table/restaurant overall was clean. I created my own omelette, which was full of bacon, ham, and the cheddar/jack cheese combination. Except for the middle of the omelette, which was weirdly devoid of any of the above components. The outer thirds of the omelette were full of meat and cheese, but the inner third was just thin layer after thinner layer of egg. That was strange, and kind of disappointing, because the middle was sort of inedible without the extra stuff. The hash browns were awesome, and my friend enjoyed her chocolate chip pancakes. Let's just think about the concept of IHOP for a second. Some person somewhere decided that it would be a great idea to serve breakfast all day long. Tonight, I came from a team practice from Maryland, an hour drive, and I was starving. But it was already 11:45PM and I was devastated that at the thought of going to McDonald's again, and as I was driving and reluctantly told myself 'ok, McDonald's has some breakfast foods (my favorite) so it'll be OK." BUT as I was about to pull over I remembered that there was an IHOP only a few minutes and thank god I did. I love this IHOP for so many reasons. I found parking there, which is never that hard to do unless you go during weekend breakfast/brunch hours. I was greeted by a welcoming South Asian man who seemed so kind. He was caring, he fought for my order with the kitchen ( I ordered eggs over well, and he ensured that the mistaken eggs over easy was done right before it even came to me, I overheard this). And he checked in twice. The apple juice I ordered hit the spot, the healthy breakfast thing they had was delicious and the fruits were great. I've been here three times, another late night trip and one time right after I came home after a red-eye from California. In all these experiences, I recommend this place so highly. My friend started by saying, "it's my birthday!" and the server interrupted and said, "we're not giving out free birthday milkshakes." We clarified that she wanted the free birthday pancakes.
