    Coffee!

This continues to be our favorite local bfast spot. The servers are mostly long time employees so they know what they're doing and are efficient. Our Vegas, bacon and hash browns were cooked perfectly. Their pancakes are always the best! We use their app and generous loyalty program and this visit got a free shirt stack of pancakes. Excellent service and yummmy bfast!!

From their own website: open until 3AM. Turned away before 2 AM by unruly employees blocking doirway.

Oh no! Customer service and honesty are completely lacking. Restaurants says open till 3 AM. Arrived at 1:55 and was told we stopped seating at 2 AM by loud unruly employees blocking doorway. It wasn't even 2 AM yet. The employees didn't wanna work. Clearly. The kitchen didn't wanna work according to the people at the door. I didn't know kitchen's work! Clearly either the corporate policy is to deceive people into driving here in the middle of the night only to disappoint them or the employees simply lie so they can go home early. Either way this is the only IHOP this has ever occurred to me at and I've eaten at hundreds around the country. This must clearly be the worst. If this is any indication of how dedicated to their work, the employees are I would advise everybody to stay away.

Service - quick, fast, and friendly! Everyone was very welcoming from the moment you step in, to when you leave. Ambiance - open space, but wasn't too rowdy. Food - so many options to choose from, i haven't been in a long time. But i was so happy to see the range, i couldn't decide on what to get. Their southwest chicken bowl was delicious Drinks - I ordered a coffee, usually i ask for honey but they ran out. It was okay I went for their sugar/cream instead. Location - in a busy area, but parking wasn't hard to find. & once we arrived we only waited 5 min or less!!

Their version of toast, both sides I toasted

Stopped in for a late lunch and were seated immediately. Decided to order breakfast instead of lunch. Ordered two eggs over medium, hash browns, rye toast, and eggs Benedict. Waited for what seemed like a long time when our server came out to say they were out of English muffins and what would I like as a substitute. Chose sourdough toast. Food finally arrived with the eggs Benedict looking not quite right. Even through the hollandaise sauce I could te the eggs were overcooked. And cutting into them proved I was correct, pretty much like hard boiled eggs. Server did offer to do something else for me but usually doing that means they are rushing the food and it could be worse than the original. The sourdough toast was toasted on one side, both sides would have been good. The bacon for the eggs over medium was asked to be cooked extra crispy but it was just barely cooked. Fortunately the bacon with the Benedict was crispy so a swap was done. Home fries with the Benedict were asked to be extra crispy but that didn't happen either. Our server was very pleasant and tried to help as much as she could and to her credit took off the Benedict off the tab. Was also told the manager would stop by but that didn't happen. Very disappointing meal and not sure if there will be a return trip which is unfortunate as they usually do a good job with breakfast.

Free stack of pancakes on National Pancake Day
    Jacob B.

It was National Pancake Day when I went here. Great food with pleasant employees who were courteous. Service isn't all complaining! They do serve new fish & chips which makes Friendly's a competitor as they also serve that entree as well. That's what I had alongside the free stack of pancakes I had on National Pancake Day. It's one of my favorite actual chain restaurants of all. I've been to this location multiple times since Applebee's was originally in that building before IHOP took over.

    Protein Pancakes

About what you expect. Basic service, decent food, old atmosphere, high price. I'm kind of running out of local breakfast places to try. I've had my fair share of chains, so when I go into these types of places I don't have high expectations. I go into this specific location and the single server was busy running orders. After about 5 minutes she runs over and seats me. I'm guessing this specific location might have a bit of a staffing issue. The decor, very much out of the early 90s. Gives me a bit of that TGIFridays or Sizzler's vibe. Low-backed seats, neutral color tones, very low divider walls, those big tube cushions that line the seating bench. It's old, but within my generation so I didn't mind it much. Didn't see anything interesting on the specials menu, so I opted to do their low calorie breakfast option. Figured I would see how their protein pancakes match up to the real deal. Also get some protein in and not ruin the days calorie bank. The eggs and sausage come out first. Both swimming in a good amount of oil, which kind of negates the healthy aspect of the dish. Nothing is seasoned, so it was up to me to salt, pepper, and ketchup the heck out of everything to get it to a decent standard. Eggs were generic egg whites, the plant-based sausage patties had a decent flavor to them. Unseasoned, but a hard sear and a decent texture. Pancakes came out after. Server was kind enough to inform me that they screwed up the pancake order and sent out the regular stack rather than the protein stack. I appreciate the honesty, and she was really busting her hump making sure the 15 people in the store were served all on her lonesome. So no faults on the server. When the protein pancakes come out, they have two decent sized mounds of whipped salted butter right on top. Pretty sure those are not part of the menu calorie counts, but those are easy enough to remove. Do a little drizzle of full sugar pancake syrup, and give them a try. Not bad pancakes, all things considered. Fluffy enough, tender, they don't feel like a diet food. Granted, they don't really have decadence either. But overall they are a solid pancake. Bill came out to 18 bucks including the coffee. So it's high for what you get. If you want some generic food or manage to use their app to score some freebies, then this place is a spot to get some breakfast. It's not great breakfast, but it's edible and will serve its purpose.

    Busy on a late-morning Saturday
    Scott D.

Sitting in the old Applebee's building in the small plaza at the east end of the Buckland mall this place might be easy to miss if you aren't looking for it. I've been here quite a few times since it's been open and as some reviews have stated the service can be hit-or-miss at times. That being said, I last stopped here for a semi-late breakfast on a Saturday and it was busy as you might expect. The manager was working in a number of areas and she kept everything running smoothly. From clearing and seating tables to taking care of the steady stream of dine-in and carry-out customers she was going above and beyond for the customers AND her employees. The wait was not bad and the service was quick and friendly despite the rush. Food arrived as ordered and without too much wait. Because this is a chain I start with a default four stars and even though I've had a few less than ideal experiences here they are putting in the work needed to make it better. For that they deserve the "A" for effort and a 4.25 star rating.

Would you allow this IHOP manager in Manchester, Connecticut to serve you food?

Owner was working hard, doing prep items while the rest of the staff remained idle. Asked my server what most people order, and was told either the breakfast platter or the cali sammich. Decided on the sandwich, to get a good sense of how they worked. Food came out after a short wait. Took pics and dug in. Egg was cooked fine, bread lightly toasted, avocado was on the bottom of the sandwich. Also sandwich was very much an omelette in between two pieces of bread. There was also omission of two ingredients (peppers and bacon), the onions were cooked not caramelized, and there was a lot of mozzarella for a cali themed breakfast dish. A lot of what was not great is easy to contribute to confusion. Home fries with a sandwich limits a dish to a dine-in experience which isn't ideal for the grab and go diner. Sandwich composition dictates flavor intensity on bite, and presentation matters more for dine in than to go. Missing ingredients, that's a slip of the kitchen and the servers. It's how the restaurant reacts and pivot that determines how they will fare. The owner was receptive of feedback, and talked to his staff on each issue brought up. It seems like the owner is heavily invested in the success of his spot but is not quite ready to hand reins over to his staff. There will need to be that transition, there's just too many hats to wear as an owner to handle the busy work as well. For those looking for a nice spot to have some eggs n bacon, this spot works. It's not glamorous eats, but it's functional and prepped well enough. I will have to try them again once they figure out their rhythm, but right now they are okay.

The place looked spacious and with a lot of light, it looked clean and they seemed to have a nice selection of wines (for those that like it) , they were displayed for people to see, which I thought looked very nice. I went to the restroom to wash my hands and I found it odd that there was only 1 restroom for the size of the restaurant. Our waiter was nice, he took our order and we were excited. The food took a VERY long time, we were starving, and we had kids with us so that wasn't good. Some of our orders were wrong and so unfortunately we had to wait even longer for the right meal. We didn't order alcohol but we did older a couple of mocktails. I was SUPER excited for them because that's something I always appreciate at a restaurant. I'm sad to say that they were AWFUL!! straight up syrup, not bubbly (some were supposed to have soda in them) not sweet, simply not enjoyable at all, I ended up switching it for a simple club soda, I figured it was a safe bet. When my food came out, it was ok, I had the avocado toast, and it was forgettable, my sister had the chicken and waffles and now THAT was the meal to get, it was large in portion and that chicken was beyond tasty!! My other sister has the lomito sandwich with the chips and it was good, something missing but she enjoyed it. The rest of the food were burgers and they were ok, the kids had burgers and Mac and cheese and they were not tasty according to the children's disinterest in barely touching their food (and they love cheeseburgers). I'm always willing to bypass certain things as long as customer service delivers BUT unfortunately they fell short. We were celebrating an engagement and so we were all very happy and in a great mood, when suddenly workers around us were cleaning up the neighboring tables, and even sweeping very close to us. We thought the place was possibly closing? (Even though it was only 2:15pm). I asked if they were closing and they said that they close the restaurant from 3-4 so their employees can go eat .... I'm not against giving them a break BUT, it really felt like they were kicking us out, we felt pressured to eat fast and wrap it up, not a good feeling, when you are in the zone of happiness. It was our first time there so, I would have appreciated if they would have informed us that the restaurant takes a little break in between and then we would have decided if we wanted to stay or go elsewhere. They did bring a little dessert and 2 mocktails for the newly engaged which was nice, I'll give them that. Overall, I don't think the food and experience was worth me coming back or recommending this place, I'm sure there's other much better places.

The Cosmic Omelet is a breakfast, brunch and lunch restaurant that opened in Manchester,…read moreConnecticut in October 2003. It was founded by Tracy Devine. When she purchased the small restaurant space in Manchester, it was already an existing restaurant called "The Smoking Cafe". Just before the purchase, the Connecticut General Assembly had passed a smoking for restaurants, which was going to go into effect soon. Many of the regular customers were smokers, but Devine soon won them over with her menu of "out of this world" food. The new business was dubbed "The Cosmic Omelet" and by 2005, a beautiful cosmic-themed mural had been painted on the walls of the restaurant. Although the menu also features lunch items, it is the breakfast dishes that keep people coming back. Many of the dishes are named after and designed by staff or long standing customers. If you spot the word "cosmic" anywhere in the menu, it is code for "made with cream cheese". My family and I had brunch at the Cosmic Omelet over St. Patrick's Day weekend. I was first introduced to the place by one of my best friends who grew up in Manchester, and I've been coming back ever since. This was the first visit for my two sons. There was a little bit of a wait for a table, but there's plenty to do to pass the time. If customers follow the "yellow brick road" painted on the floor, it will lead you to a small arcade as well as a funky art gallery space. We all had a fun time exploring until our table was ready. They had a lot of delicious St. Patrick's Day themed specials during our visit. I had the "Sheep Go To Heaven" (shepherd's pie omelet w/ ground beef, corn, mashed potatoes, cheddar & Guinness gravy), my wife had the "Fiesta Omelet" (sausage, onions, peppers, cheddar, side of salsa & sour cream), our sons shared the "Sweet Cream (Green) Pancakes", and we also ordered sides of "Hashbrowns" and "Corned Beef Hash" for the table. As usual, everything was fantastic! The omelets were chock full of delicious ingredients, the pancakes were perfectly fluffy, and the home fries were out of this world! We plan on returning to the Cosmic Omelet again and again!

The look of the place is still a mix of quirky diner and casual neighborhood spot, but over the years they have expanded quite a bit into neighboring spaces. It is noticeably larger than it used to be many years ago, but it still feels like the same locally-owned, friendly, affordable, quirky, casual, bustling place with fun decor that it has always been. The food is certainly also a big reason people keep coming back. If you have never been, you will quickly notice that some of the omelets are creative and a little unusual. A few include things like cream cheese, which might sound odd at first but often works surprisingly well. Of course they also have plenty of classic breakfast options if you want something more traditional. In general the food has been consistently good. The place can get busy, especially during peak breakfast hours, which says a lot about how popular it still is with regulars. Once you are seated though, the service tends to move along quickly and the staff are friendly in that slightly quirky way that fits the personality of the place. Overall Cosmic Omelet is still one of the better breakfast spots in the area. Good food, lots of personality, and clearly a place that has built a strong following over the years. Although I have moved much further away since my 2009 review, I will still stop in when I am back in the area.
