IKEA - you never fail me! Came here on a quiet Tuesday afternoon. Best day of the week to come - not crowded, lots of space, open parking, and TUESDAY MEAL DEALS. Ah yes. Friend and I got: 2 kids' plate of swedish meatballs with side of fries and mashed potatoes, kids' plate of chicken tenders + fries, an elderberry cupcake, 2 juice boxes, one plate of mushroom crepes. ALL OF THIS for less than $5. WHAT? is that legal? who knows but it was fantastic. swedish meatballs are a never fail. a little bit of gravy + lingonberry sauce plus a dollop of mashed potatoes? yes please. the crepes i wouldn't get again. i applaud their efforts though. it tasted like cream of mushroom soup wrapped in a crepe. elderberry cupcake tasted like lychee! read more

OK so the food is pretty dam good but the wait was 45 minutes at 7:30 at night on a Saturday that doesn't make any sense they only have one person behind each of the counters handing out food people were miserable children were getting very tired of waiting and it just becomes a very disappointing overall experience read more

Horrible experience. Feb 1 in the afternoon We went to IKEA to buy a new bed for our spare room and after picking the bed we decided to have a nosh then pay for it and take it home. We left without much of a nosh and with no bed. The people actually handling the food were beyond rude. We never got one of the dinners we ordered or the stupid meatballs. After being told where to stand and just hang around we were told to move out of the way so other people could be served.....so we could then be completely ignored. The woman whom appeared to be some sort of manager was tempting food and demeaning the man attempting to serve people food and she was going out of her way to ignore customers. The ONLY reason I gave this cafeteria 2 stars was my husband said the mixed berry cheesecake was excellent and better than the french bakery we frequent. I doubt we will ever go back to IKEA for anything. read more

I know what your thinking. Cafeteria food at a furniture store? I know and am cringing a little writing this review but you know what? Tasty inexpensive food is tasty inexpensive food. I grew up eating Scandinavian foods and this isn't half bad. It is Americanized for our palate. I think most Americans wouldn't really like true Scandinavian cuisine. For instance I don't see too many people partake of the Lutefisk in the salad bar. I don't even like the stuff. I read other reviews that people didn't like this or that. We pretty much stick with the salads, pastries/deserts/breads and the meatball plate of course. I have seen some funky items offered and steered us away from those. I do think your eating experience, good or bad will depend on what you order. Their Lingonberry sauce is fairly good. The meatballs & gravy passable for the real thing. I usually stock up on some Inlagd Sill (pickled herring) along with some of the specialty Scandinavia crackers while were there. You can also buy the Lingonberry sauce and the frozen meatballs/gravy should you want to prepare them at home. Add some cream and some additional spices to the brown gravy to get it closer to the real thing. My husband and I usually get the bow-tie pasta salad with shrimp and a order of Swedish meatballs and share them. It makes the perfect lunch for two people. There are a couple newer items on the menu that we saw last time and might try in the future. The Najad Salmon looks good. I have eaten a Norwegian Najadlax smoked salmon that looks very similar. I think we'll try the Crepes with Lingonberry jam the next time. Just remember where your at and where your not. This isn't fine dining but then again its good quasi Scandinavian food, tasty and inexpensively priced. I would like to give 3.5 stars because I don't think it warrants 4 stars, but in the end I think its at least a solid 3. read more

There are two reasons to make the trip to IKEA: Affordable furniture, and a platter of Swedish meatballs. I've eaten here more times than I care to admit, and always have the exact same meatball platter. It's a formula, and it works. The restaurant is cafeteria style - grab a tray, and order one of a few selections from the hot food stations. They do have other things - lasagna (which I can't vouch for because, Swedish and lasagne don't seem like the kind of "fusion" that would work well) and fish and chips, which my daughter had once and pronounced "okay." The meatballs, though, are quite good, as are the mashed potatoes, gravy, and lingonberry sauce. On other visits, we've tried a couple of the desserts, with mixed results. I had an almond pastry a while back that was very nice, not too sweet, but except for the meatballs, they rotate menu items, so it wasn't there on this last visit. The restaurant and seating area are generally quite clean. My big gripe is with the staff who serve up the food - they aren't the friendliest, and if you want something extra or have a question, well, good luck with that. As with the furniture, the prices can't be beat, and a stop in the restaurant is a nice break when at the store. read more

One usually goes to Ikea to purchase a cheap desk and dresser, not eat at their cafeteria! right? Well, their cafeteria is nothing to sneer at...They offer a decent food at fairly affordable prices. After all, you don't really want to spend much on food after spending $1,000 on furniture do you? I usually get the Swedish meatballs when I go there and at $6.00 its a pretty good deal. It doesn't wow you, but it comes with steamed red potatoes, gravy and of course the berries that will fill you up. Other offerings such as the salmon and the cold sandwiches are respectable and definitely help take the load off a momentous day of shopping. At the end there is a hot dog and yogurt stand for $1.50 you can get a hot dog and drink. Granted, it isn't quite the same as Costco, but the thought is there and you certainly get your fills worth. Ate at the new IKEA which just opened a few weeks ago. My wife had the veggie balls meal and I had the salmon. Our meals certainly didn't resemble the colorful pictures displayed on the monitor above. A customer in front of us asked for fresh meatballs when she was served what was obviously food which had been sitting around a while. She was told the food she was already given was fresh and hot. None of my wife's food was even remotely hot. Only my vegetables were hot. The salmon was barely warm. The small side salad was too small for the $2 they charge. When my wife asked the cashier guy to register her visit by scanning her new membership card, he didn't want to be bothered. He was visibly perturbed that he was out of quarters (we never use cash but the woman ahead of us did and apparently cleaned out his supply). This was our very first time trying the food at IKEA, and it will definitely be our last! read more

I've developed a soft spot for the IKEA restaurant. Besides coming in here and getting a free breakfast a while back, their prices are pretty awesome, and the food tastes great. My friend and I stopped by to check out some furniture, and we were both famished. We both got the seasoned fish with mashed potatoes and cooked veggies, 5 meatballs with lingonberry jam, a roll, and an elderflower cupcake. We washed it all down with lingonberry juice. Besides the roll, everything was amazing. That cupcake will haunt my days and nights for years to come. Seriously, it was that good. Best part? Cheap eats served quickly, cafeteria style. I've noticed a recent improvement in food quality after a long, downhill slide. For a long time Seattle's IKEA was really bad compared to the IKEAs I visited in SoCal. The restaurant was a metaphor for the whole place: started out great and then someone stopped caring and let it all go to hell. Attention to detail, cleanliness, fixing little things was not part of the Seattle IKEA experience and it reflected in the food. Things tasted old and overlooked. I guess their solution is to build a whole new one, which they are doing where the parking garage used to be. Someone woke up and fixed this at the restaurant at least. I was pleasantly surprised by fluffy meatballs and a delicious salmon wrap that looked like it was made with care. The coffee and the Lingonberry juice is still great, as it always was. Now if they can just work on the people serving you the food. These guys couldn't be more bored with what they do and unhappy they are doing it. I suppose watching a bunch of indecisive people with their screaming kids go through the line must be excruciating, but do you have to make it seem like you're a prisoner serving food to inmates? Crack a smile! Say hello! Maybe they need to rotate these guys out more often. That's really low point in the whole experience. Crazy honkin' busy over the weekend. Saturday is the day I went to venture and feel Swedish. Okay, I know I am nutty. But hey--it's close. I tried those new veggie meat balls. They are interesting--tastes like currry and mushy mush. Apparently my pear cider had alcohol in it **gasp**. It was 0.1% so I calmed down. Stick with something salmon-y or those crispy fries that are worff it. I adore Ikea food grocery. They have pickled herring in mustard which I love love love with the Fulkorn dry crouton-like bread. Some people hate pickled fish and if you are one of them, RUN. It has an ammonia like taste...I like it. 99 cent chocolate? 4 please, two hazelnut and two milk. My friend took us here for our last meal in Seattle. Who would've thought a furniture store serving food?! We looked at the menu and couldn't believe how cheap the food was. We grabbed a tray and chose what we wanted. My husband got the bbq ribs, fries, and cornbread. I got the Swedish meatballs with berry sauce and mashed potatoes. Ikea restaurant has a convenient, comfortable layout. They have a microwave oven, bibs and a plasma screen television showing the same Micky Mouse Clubhouse over and over again. If you read the comments below, people are writing about how good the meatballs and fries are. People are commenting on how good the deep fried chicken fingers are. You see some healthier things, like salmon. As far as healthy food is concerned, the smoked salmon and micro salad bar is about a good as it gets. I do like the free coffee for Ikea Family members such as myself, and the early bird free coffee. But the unfortunate fact is, you cannot make this place a regular way of eating. Do not eat here even once a week in my book. Every time I am there, I see parents feeding their kids deep fried chicken and french fries. Granted, Ikea offers milk, but you will actually see parents giving their kids soda! I mean, as if the deep fried chicken and fries wasn't bad enough, you have to give your kids soda. Their breakfast Swedish pancakes and deep fried potatoes are not even that great. The only healthy part of their breakfast would be the scrambled eggs. People would choose healthier options if they make healthier breakfast platters, and photographed them in a way that made the combos visually appealing. For example, offer a smaller Swedish pancake with strawberries or blueberries. Get rid of the fried potatoes, and add a side of cottage cheese and fruit. Photograph it nicely for the menu board and people will notice it. At Ikea, I see people who are either obese or overweight indulging in the high calorie, low cost items. These are the same parents feeding their children this food. I feel sorry for the kids because obesity is obviously going to be a part of their future. Ultimately, I blame parents. But big restaurants like Ikea could care a little more about the health of their patrons and children by offering some healthier combos. I object to the idea that eating healthy should be expensive. Ikea needs to offer, for adults AND children, a combo platter that looks something like this [ lean protein + starchy carbohydrate like sweet potato (baked not fried) + fibrous carbohydrate + 2 oz fruit ] The calories should be between 400 - 500 max. Some of the low calorie options, like the veggie wrap, are not filling and do not contain enough protein. People need to feel satiated, and this should not come at a HUGE cost to Ikea. Ikea could offer a chicken sandwich as a lettuce wrap, stuffed with pesto mayo, cheese, diced chicken, onion and tomato. Served with a side of sweet potato, that is healthy and delicious. As you leave the IKEA registers, there is another tiny cafe selling frozen yogurt, coffee, latte's and cinnamon rolls. Ikea's sweet smelling cinnamon bun has 414 calories, not such a good deal. They sell those puppies as 6 packs. Now just take 414 and multiply that by 6! Remember that 1 pound of fat = 3500 calories. When I see people buying those 6 packs they are almost always obese parents with overweight children. Just think about the ethics of this. Of course every parent has the right to poison their children with horrible food, but these companies make it too easy by making these foods too available, too cheap, and too tempting. Many of these people do not understand what they are doing is very harmful. Until IKEA works on their menu, I recommend going there to enjoy the coffee and tea. But bring your own food, and use their microwave to heat it up. Trust me, the IKEA police will not bust you. read more

But they offer some fairly healthy selections (mushroom and cheese crepe, and also lentil soup), and you can get a full meal including dessert for less than $10. That's damn good value. First of all: Don't try to take a picture. They will freak out on you. Summation: The service is okay, and the food is cheap. The hot dogs are all Turkey (which is nice), the buns aren't steamed though so it gets to be a bit dry, the Mochas are good but a little sweet (add an extra shot of espresso to cut the sweetness). The non-fat yogurt is good, but there isn't any consistency with how big of a cone you will get (which makes me Hulk out). I do like the fact that unlike other IKEAs (and I've been to 4... two in Chicago, one in Minnesota and one in China) this one has cups of meatballs, which is nice, as well as a full-service coffee bar. Their cinnamon rolls also come with more icing then the ones in Chicago. I'll be back, because it's always a great deal. read more

All I can conclude is that the ingenious Swedes, who can miraculously fashion wood, plastic, and metal into crazy, efficient, DIY furniture combos, have given absolutely 100% of their meticulous care and attention to their products, and zero attention to the "food" served in the store's restaurant. On my tray: limp, cold fries, lukewarm, bizarrely-textured chicken strips, unsavory salad. The most delicious parts of the "meal" were the ketchup and the ever-faithful Coca Cola. From its bland, over-processed taste, I imagine that like their couches, this food is produced assembly-line in mass quantities. The one redeeming element was the interesting and delicious elderflower juicebox - I'd buy that for a dollar! However, all of this is totally fine with me - I didn't go to Ikea for the fine dining, and a meal in their cafeteria is economical in its own way - it serves up the required number of calories to keep you going on an intense shopping spree. We came here today because we needed to pick up a few things.. and of course you kinda can't help but stop by the restaurant area and get a nibble. We happened to see that on Wednesday's they have a Special "feed a family of four for $9.99." For the 2 adult meals we got the obligatory Swedish meatballs with gravy and mashed potatoes w/ ligonberry on the side, and for the 2 kids meals we got combo 2 and 3 which was meatballs and mashed taters and chicken tenders w/fries. The kids meals comes with drinks your choice of juices, milk(chocolate or regular) or cup for the fountain drinks. For $1 more you can add 5 more meatballs, btw! We also got dessert 1 chocolate cake($3.49) and 1 bakelse prinsess(pink cream cake with marizpan, $1.49) to share. If you swipe your Ikea family card, you get a free coffee or tea(unlimited refill!! woot, that's a nice little freebie). If you want a glass for a fountain drink that will set you back $1.49(unlimited refills, really a bargain compared to a regular sit down restaurant that charges you over $2 something at most places). So all in all for everything we got we spent just under $18something. Honestly not bad at all! The selection for the hot teas are pretty decent, they have Tazo brand. What was really nice about coming here today was that it was pretty empty! Trying to come here during the weekends is like a mad house! We were driving down the 405 towards Renton trying to decide where to go for dinner. I was not feeling particularly great. I was queasy. I thought food might help settle my belly. But, I did not want to spend $30 or more on a meal that I was probably not even going to enjoy. As we approached the 167 interchange, Mr. H. says, half in jest, "how about the IKEA cafeteria?" "Sure," I say back. I knew from previous trips that I could get a decent bowl of soup there and I thought that might be just what I needed. And, so we (well, really, just he) steered the car in that direction. He ordered the Swedish meatball special and I snagged the accompanying bowl of soup. Yellow pea. It was warm and smooth and just what the doctor ordered. I added some crispy bread and a little tub of rice pudding. My belly did actually feel better after. His plate of meatballs seemed smaller than it has in the past (as did my bowl of soup), but, I guess that is the way of the world. Also, the meatballs came with mashed potatoes instead of the usual baby reds. But he was not complaining. Even with the $3 piece of pie he insisted on getting when he saw I was getting dessert, our meals together came to just over $12. Is this gourmet dining? Not exactly. Most of the time we get consistent quality in food, its not all GREAT quality but its food I will go and eat because its yummy and different and very family friendly! The prices are great and while the food isn't terrible, I think the chaos in the lines are what left it not very appealing. At one point the servers stopped serving to give the line a chance to stop crowding, so we waited. They did not seem to care about customers frustrations but eh...its an IKEA restaurant...what more do I want right? Huge cafeteria style restaurant in upper level of store. Not a huge menu but certainly ample variety of decent choices both hot or cold including desserts. Entree prices range from 3.99-6.99 very fair. Couple vegetarian options . We had a veggie wrap, fries, the veggie balls ( hot plate) w/steamed veggies, quinoa/brown rice w/curry sauce, mushroom bisque and a decadent chocolate slice of cake to go. Each meal 7-8 bucks total w/added sides. Everything pretty tasty, only complaint all food warm, not hot. Mushroom soup could be served in high end bistro, superb! Hummus served w/wrap very good,,, all else good, haven't tried cake yet. Well worth the price, atmosphere bright, airy and clean. At check out area downstairs also a snack bar ( pizza slices, cinnamon rolls, hot dogs, slurpees, etc few rows of specialty foods and freezer items. Hadn't been in several years, place is so huge! I've come here a few times. They have vegan meatballs that taste quite good (not like cardboard!) and which have a mild Indian-inspired flavor. The pizza at Ikea is also relatively good, and it's the cheapest in a very wide radius (though Ikea furniture is likely correspondingly overpriced).
