Luckily there were only 2 people in line ahead of me, unlike Ike's original SF location where the line would be 15 deep. I ordered 2 sammiches: the Hollywood cheesteak and the Lincecum. The sandwiches were really big and they put a generous amount of meat and toppings which made the sandwich so much better, unlike their Serramonte location where they hardly put anything in the sandwich. It makes a huge difference! The place is clean and the setup is nice with about 4 or 5 tables inside. Will be back when I'm in the area. read more

Had a Groupon for Ike's San Mateo ($17 for 4 Groupon's all worth $7) so checked it out on Sunday afternoon 5/28/2017 around 2pm. Of note, Ike's opens pretty early. 6:30am on Fridays. Got to Ike's. Not much parking in the parking lot, but plenty of parking on the street. First thing I notice when inside is it's pretty small. But that's ok cause it seems like 99% of the people got their sandwiches to-go. The line was pretty long, but only took like 5 minutes before we were at the register. Ike's has many different sandwiches, and they all sound good. Also, they have a gluten free bread. I ordered the Iffy Tiffy, which is chicken breast, avocado, cheese and mushrooms. My boyfriend got some kind of tuna sandwich. We got a #18 to go and one other I don't recall. Our sandwiches were delicious. Definitely worth the $. With our Groupon 4 sandwiches came to $32. Not bad. These were some of the best sandwiches I've had. You must check it out if you're a sandwich addict like I am. I knocked off 1 star because it took forever for them to clean off our table, which I asked them to do, and also because the cashier wasn't friendly. He wasn't rude or anything, just not friendly. Ever since my first Ike's sandwich a few years ago, I make sure to stop by Ike's every time I can get up to the Bay Area. And ever since I moved to the Bay Area... well, let's just say that once I found out there was a location near where I lived, it felt too good to be true. This location is small, with not very much indoor/outdoor seating. The menu doesn't seem as extensive as the locations in SF, although I wonder if you can just ask for a sandwich they have even if it's not on the menu boards. I'm always overwhelmed by the number of options, but so far, I've really liked the Menage a Trois because of the honey and mustard (not honey mustard, just so ya know). I like the famous Dutch Crunch bread because it's crunchy (surprise!) but my boyfriend prefers the regular baguette because the Dutch Crunch is slightly sweet. They have a variety of vintage-looking sodas in glass bottles that's also fun to try! My boyfriend and I tried the Leninade just because we were amused by the pun. I love Ike's, the sandwiches are great and there's plenty of vegetarian (and even vegan) options here! Mr. Piano and I stopped in for a late-ish dinner while we were out running errands a week or so ago. This location is tasty like all the rest of them :) The staff is friendly and helpful, and they were relatively quick, and thankfully are open later than the Ike's that are closer to us. This location is a little smaller than the others I've been to, so you probably wouldn't want to eat in with a large group, but it is otherwise nice and was clean when we were there. The very first sandwich I tried was the Adam Richman. The fried chicken was moist and flavorful and the combination of flavors was so unique, I found myself counting down the days until I could experience it again. I've since forced myself to move through the rest of the menu and have not often been disappointed. Everything is delicious, though I do think the meat to bread ratio is heavy on the bread side if you get a sandwich with steak or just one kind of meat. After a quick perusal of the menu with my girlfriend, we were sold on the Don't 'F' with Elvis Kieth - loved the bold seasoning in the halal chicken as well as the earthy flavors from the mushrooms that jived so well with all the components. It's honestly pretty hard to go wrong with a sandwich from Ike's. I've consistently had fantastic sandwiches from various Ike's locations, and the San Mateo one didn't disappoint for my first time at this specific one. On a sunny Sunday afternoon, a large group of friends and I were going to have a picnic at the park nearby. Tasty, fresh Ike's sandwiches were obviously the key choice here. Perusing the veggie menu (I'm a vegetarian who's a HUGE fan of their vegan meat options), I spotted the Tom Brady (vegan chicken, garlic, mushrooms, avocado, etc.) which was AMAZING. I haven't seen this sandwich before at other locations and the ingredients mix together so well. I even had my friends, who have never tried vegan meat before and were wary, to try my sandwich and they loved it. Happy to know that this trip made future plans for my friends and I to more vegan places. Service quick, despite it being busy. The place can get kinda cramped when it's a peak rush time, and I hope they consider installing air conditioning because it was really hot inside (would be ideal considering it gets hot frequently in San Mateo). Typical sandwich place, a bit better than average don't know what the fuss is about. The bread was freshly made, very good for that. The sandwich is ginormous, I had 1/3 and was full. Freshness and flavor was average, maybe they have some secret sauce that lovers order? Overall 3.5 stars. My normal go-to place is Subway and Ike is comparable in price/portion (compared with 5 foot long sub), better with amount of toppings and bread, but not as good on flavor. Update: get the Kryptonite. It may kill you that there are 3000 calories but it is 2 gargantuan sandwich that is filled with meats and packed with flavor! Eat it with 4 people and you will be fine (or eat it all like Adam Richman). Among the sandwiches I've tried at Ike's this one really stands out, others are just average. read more

I'm debating between 3.5 stars & 4 stars.. Ike's definitely holds as a spot as my Top 3 favorite sandwich places. With only two locations in SF (Castro & SFSU), and the rest located elsewhere, I was quite happy that they opened one in San Mateo! The problem with Castro is the parking and the problem with SFSU is limited hours and closed during weekends. As for San Mateo, their parking is okay and they are open until the late hours of 8 pm or 10 pm, depending on the day. Not only that, but it also isn't crowded so yay! The weird part is that they are not listed on the website of Ike's. Ike's Sandwich of San Mateo is located in a small plaza with other few restaurants or businesses. They have their own private lot but it is small and a little weird.. The restaurant itself is clean and a good size. There are about 2-4 tables inside. The service is great, employees are friendly. I love to order #111 (Menage-A-Trios aka 3 some!). I find their sandwiches a little smaller in size, but still delicious. Sometimes I get a hit or miss with my sandwiches because the sauces are not evenly distributed or the chicken tastes dry.. For ~$10, you can get a delicious sandwich that will satisfy your needs. Totally worth it. They also have "specials" of the day but it doesn't seem that "special," because I think it's already on the menu. See it as a recommendation! They also have chips, drinks, and snacks for purchase. When you pick up your order, don't forget to grab one of their caramel green apple lollipops! read more

They were both really good. I think the Nacho Boy was the spicy one, which the spiciness I loved. I loved them both tho pretty much equally. Definitly got my share of caramel pops too ha. Email confirmation had a "status order" that updated almost immediately and they had the order for me waiting when I got there. We got three different sandwiches, meatless mike, sometimes vegetarian, and peg bundy. All of them were great though the two with stuffed jalapeños, could barely tell they were in there. Ok. 2 stars cuz the place was so dirty. It's clearly ran by young men cuz the attention to detail was nil. Was not busy and EVERY SINGLE table was filthy. It seriously made me feel like they didn't wash their hands.
