We've been going to Moms for over 35 years. We've always loved it. Recently it was bought and the new owners did some basic redecorating. The place looks great. The service is still very good. Now tonight we went to Moms for a basic cheese ravioli dinner. We had garlic bread which had so much garlic it burned my mouth. The ravioli was BLAND. HARDLY ANY FLAVOR. It's so disappointing. I have to say we will most likely cross Moms off our list. This is the second time in a row we've been unhappy with our dinners. I asked one of the staff if the sauce recipe changed. She said yes it has. This was not a good decision by the chef. This recipe is bland. Almost no flavor. Sorry! read more

Okay, if you are looking for elegant fine dining keep moving....BUT if you want something that is reminiscent of a 1960's wood paneled basement with kitschy decor ( read fun) good solid traditional food ( as in red sauce ) , very reasonable prices and the best asset - the staff, especially Clare the octagenarian waitress who doesn't take hostages, but is such a sweetheart - this is your place. You can count on splashing tomato sauce on your shirt and fighting with the little containers of butter ( what a bitch to peel off when you have had a couple glasses of chianti!) This is definitely my go to place for Momma's food ( okay so I am not Italian but I am sure my Mom could've cooked like this! Ask for Clare - she rocks! read more

Well, we used to go to Mom's all the time from the late 80s to early 2000's and the food and service were great. I guess all things change over time because we went last night and it was bad. We knew we had a problem when we walked in the door at 7pm and the place was 3/4 empty. In "the old days" we would have to wait for a table. We were a party of seven and they gave us the new waitress (there for 5 days). She was very pleasant, but inexperienced. The annoying part was that there were at least two other waitresses standing around doing nothing while this waitress struggled. Why couldn't they lend a hand? Pure laziness - which seemed to permeate from the waitstaff right into the kitchen. The meal started good with pizza and salad, but went downhill fast from there. Six of seven entrees came out with one missing. The seventh entree did not come out for at least ten minutes later. It was gnocchi, which takes about 6 minutes to cook. The waitress said the order got mixed up in the kitchen. Mixed up, you couldn't even get a good checker tournament going in the place -- there were so few customers. This goes back to my lazy comment above. So the gnocchi comes out and the sauce was terrible, it was bitter and looked like tomato paste. It was obviously overcooked. Now to the veal parm -- 1/16th of an inch cutlet with an inch of breading. Great if you are trying to cut back on the protein. Here's the bottom line, we were very disappointed in the food and service. When we complained about the food there was no manager or owner to be found. No one seemed to care. I would suggest skipping Mom's and going to a place where they appreciate your business and care about the food they serve. It is really a shame that a place that gave us such great meals has fallen so far. Maybe Gordon Ramsey needs to be called in to turn it around. read more

After 5 days of wall to wall kids we finally sprung for a sitter and went out on the town.Sadly, this restaurant was a major disappointment. The salad was very wet and they were out of vodka sauce (at 7:30pm). I settled on linguini with white clam sauce - and it was overcooked (we're not talking past al dente - we're talking pasty) and lackedany flavor at all. No garlic, no butter, no clam - heck not even salty. It was so very sad. The waitress was friendly but confused. We will not be back, and will recommend against this place. read more

Mom's is now IL Posto and it's the better for it! Nicely renovated with tasteful decor and comfy seats. The food is terrific. The stuffed artichoke special and the octopus special were really memorable. Good modern fish dishes along with traditional Italian comfort food. read more

Hands-down the best food/vibe on the Shore! Very warm, friendly environment. The bartender was top notch. I was here on vacation for a few days and this place was the highlight of my trip! What a change for the best. Mom's Kitchen has morphed into Il Posto. The modern decor and cuisine are easy on the eye and tastier on the pallet. Kudos to the new owners. Four of us came for dinner and four of us will be back for sure. We ordered calamari for starters for the table that came with a choice of marinara or paprika mayo sauce. Very tasty. Salad comes with the entrees. Clean and fresh. The house oil and vinegar dressing is good. For the main course, two of us had the Chicken Francaise. The chicken was moist, served with spaghetti, and very tasty. One of us had the Flounder Fancaise. No complaints. She enjoyed the entree. And finally, there was an order of broccoli rabe over pasta. While not on the menu, the broccoli rabe is usually served as a side order, the waiter had no problem taking the order. Prices are reasonable. The wait staff is accommodating, friendly and efficient. Loved the old moms kitchen, great family friendly place. The old owners are actually family friends of my parents. Being local Neptune residents we Decided to try to attempt the new "Il Posto", empty with no one there and we asked for a table for 8. They said they could not accommodate a child and sat there for 15 minutes trying to figure out how to move tables. After 15 minutes of standing there feeling very awkward and like we were inconveniencing the place, they told us it won't work. We were turned away and have never been treated like that, ever. We will never go again. Discrimination against children, very nice. "Moms kitchen" really took a 360. Went to Bedrock Bistro in Avon instead, great place and even better service! read more

Horrible experience tonight! Wanted to try this place a co-worker said it was good, what a lie! I ordered chicken parm with a side of ziti noodles, my chicken parm was not only dry but burnt! The sauce was thick and disgusting! My boyfriend order Alfredo and it came with a side of steak and chicken, the Alfredo was DISGUSTING, you could taste the flour and had absolutly no taste! The chicken and steak was drenched in a horrible oily sauce,and smothered with uncooked onions and mushrooms. waitress was old and snobby never again!! read more

I am a true fan, lover of Mom's Kitchen until recently. My family has been going there for decades. My husband and I now go on a regular basis. The food is delicious and priced moderately. The decorations are very cute and the place has a homey feeling. But we brought our mother's for Mother's Day dinner on Sunday and it was a mess. I made reservations because I knew it would be crazy. We still waited for a table like everyone else. When we got to our table, we didnt have any condiments or butter, etc. Just our side plates and silverware. Our waitress kept telling us to "give her a minute." Fine. We understand it is a crazy night. But 2.5 hours later, we are still there waiting for our check. The people next to us had more people in their party than us and were dealing with the same issue. The people next to us were also sat a good 30 minutes after us and left a good 15 miunutes before us. It took 30 minutes for bread and that was us asking for it three times. We got it then we had no butter. Then we got marinara for the bread and never got the bread. Their food came out first also. When we got our food, we were served the wrong meals. My husband's meal came out AFTER all of ours. She forgot it! But she remembered to bring all the side pasta dishes, even ones we didnt order! The night was a complete disaster and this is after we have been raving about this place for months to my new mother in law. Very embarassing. My mother ordered the chicken parm and eggplant parm, all she received was mushy eggplant. And offered that they would just correct the price on the bill. I always get the manicotti, because it is the best! Well, the cheese on top was BLACK as in burnt and the inside ricotta cheese was chunky, meaning it was undercooked inside and just burnt outside. It was a horrible experience and I really need to think if I need to go back there. When I spoke to the owner at the end of the night, she said there was nothing she could do and I should have notified her earlier. Well, it is a holiday night, I would expect the manager to be coming around asking people and esp when she was sitting right next to us talking to other customers. I guess we had that look on our face that we were not happy. Even our waitress avoided eye contact, when she went by. I think we would have been fine if she was honest and said, I messed up or sorry...something. Or even refilled our drinks. But I guess asking to refill iced tea and soda was too much to ask. Dear Sir or Madam, We just arrived home from your restaurant this past Valentine's Day.May I/We give us the chance to explain our experience?We both are in the service industry and hope others would share a bad experience with us as we both shared in your restaurant tonight in the hope that you can improve. We arrived at 7 PM(made reservations three-four weeks ago).When we arrived at 7 PM (on the dot) and said we had reservations, we were told we had to wait at least 15 mins. for a table(many tables were empty).We sat at the bar while we waited.Your ad in the Coaster Newspaper said $2.50 draft beers which we confirmed before we arrived prior to Valentines Day,we wanted to make sure that also applied to that day which was confirmed.We were told via phone," All of the Thursday Specials also included Valentines Day".When I asked the bartender about a $2.50 draft beer his reply was"I have no idea what you are talking about".We then ordered two house wine's and were shocked that we were charged $18.00.I have the receipt should you wish to see it. We were then seated and waited a half hour to 45 mins. before anyone came to our table.To our dismay we looked at the menu and it was like nothing posted in the Coaster Newspaper,it was $12.00 additional.Please keep in mind that when we saw your ad it stated"Book for Valentines Day" It showed a cost of $27.95 per couple,the menu cost was $39.95 when we arrived.We also confirmed such when we made our reservations that the cost for Thursday Valentines Day would still apply at $27.95,that was confirmed by the person that took our reservation,she even confirmed that while on was I was on the phone with her manager. We found nothing on the menu that cost $ 27.95 per couple. When we were finally seated we both ordered the Flounder with Shrimp and Crab Cake.We sat for another 1/2 hour only to be told after-wards "they have no more""you need to order something else" . Another couple ordered the Veal dish afterwards and we overheard that were also out of that.It was Valentines Day.How can you have run out of two main specials by 8:30 pm? We asked for additional bread twice maybe three times and it never arrived,ever after the server said several times it would be right over it never arrived. We ordered the Veal and it was like shoe leather,such a very tiny portion at that,so full of grease and salty. The crab cake was like paper,not real crab,you could not eat it! We think it was imation crab. The salad was excellent. Shrimp Cocktail was a joke,My God,salad shrimp,four-five at that????(The size of a thumb nail)That is not Shrimp Cocktail. Asked for Olive Oil to put on the salad and was told"We have no Olive Oil but can give you normal oil" This is an Italian Restaurant.Good God! No Olive Oil? Then we ordered Cheese Cake for dessert and waited so long that we asked for it to go,it tasted terrible when we got home after we ate some.Coffee we would not dare. In closing may I say that your manager did reduce the price of our dinner from $ 39.95 to $ 29.95 based on me talking to him about the ad in the Coaster Newspaper Ad.I was called "Mr Nasty"He refused to honor the ad in the Coaster which it stated in clear print $27.95 per couple,he said that was not a current ad,I should have looked at today's paper not a paper from two/three weeks ago..Wow! All that over $2.00!He was so nasty,I was in shock.Again I called weeks before and confirmed the price and confirmed your ad in last weeks paper which stated the same with the caption "Book for Valentines Day"$27.95 per couple.There was nothing on your menu for dinner that would have cost $27.95 per couple when we arrived tonight.Talk about bait and switch. My wife and I both agree, after eating at restaurants for 50 years,almost every week this was by far the worst experience we have ever had. Happy Valentines Day.You wrecked our special day! I have been going to Mom's for over 50 years and went last night because I heard of the new decor. First off the decor is so out of place with the knotty pine paneling (could have painted it) but then I noticed that everyone, bartenders, hostess and waitresses were all new and this is a first for Mom's, as most wait staff live out their days working there. For 50 years the sauce has been consistent but what I was served last night was warm ketchup. The ravioli were different, as was the bread and garlic bread. Even the Christmas decor was different. We've been going to Mom's Kitchen for 25 years so we were sorely disappointed by our most recent visit. Mom's Kitchen was a Jersey Shore classic, offering basic Italian food with a deep, rich red sauce. With an over abundance of Italian eateries in New Jersey, the quality of food and reasonable prices kept us coming back. But no more. Mom's recent attempt to reinvent itself as the local go-to Italian eatery has left it with Schizophrenia; modern furniture with knotty pine paneling. The hearty red sauce is gone, replaced by a run-of-the-mill sauce and an over-priced menu. The personality and quality of Mom's Kitchen is sadly gone and so are we. We won't be back. Thank you Mom for hosting my rehearsal dinner in 1994, and for so many other wonderful dinners. We will miss you. read more

I have been going to Mom's for twenty years and loved it, raved about it. The neighborhood feel, awesome tasting food, seriously generous portions, quirky decorations. Well, we went for dinner Friday night and were sadly disappointed. The renovation has not been for the better. Classic staple items are no longer on the menu, like the Supreme salad that used to be a bottomless bowl, chicken saltimbocca, no more. Every day run of the mill choices, and Chicken Francais listed with a description that is really Chicken Marsala. Also, the prices have almost doubled. A chicken dish that used to cost $14.00 is now $21.00, and you get less of it. Also, the recipe is different, as the sauce was watery and bland. Our dinner for four, with no appetizers came to $145.00. Unbelievable. I'm so sad, this restaurant was our go to for good food, homey charm. I'm afraid the renovation is going to put them right out of business. R.I.P. Mom's Kitchen, I'm so sorry to see you go. read more

Saw a tear running down Mom's face on her portrait hanging on the wall. Décor is beautiful. As 30+ year patrons of the original Mom's we were ready for change, but not in this very bad way. Chef Salad Supreme no longer includes celery, tasteful tomato chunks and good quality black & green olives or the tuna it was known for. We added tuna as an upcharge and the quality was poor. The dressing was tasteless. They were out of clams for clam sauce. I ordered cavatelli and tomato sauce with meatballs. The cavatelli was thick and doughy. The sauce was that dreaded orange, smooth and watery sauce which normally comes out of a jar or worse yet, a can. Nothing fresh or homemade about this sauce or its' ingredients. Thankful the meatballs were never delivered...sure they would have added to the disappointment. My husband had shells with broccoli rabe and sausage in a thick white sauce which was burnt. The bread service could have been good had it not been burnt by reheating. Our experience was so very disappointing. We were one of only two occupied tables in the restaurant...this should tell the new owners something. No amount of live entertainment will bring 'Mom's" back to it's former glory featuring filled tables, a wait and delicious food. read more

Being of Italian descent, I'm accustomed to not finding an Italian restaurant that compares with my Grandma's cooking. Went to a baby shower at Mom's. Wow! The food was delicious. Light as can be salad dressing on the salad, parmigiano truffle fries to die for, burrata salad, stuffed peppers, melt in your mouth osso buco. Try it, you'll love it. read more

Not much changes in our beach town, but Mom's Kitchen has had a few changes. It is a neighborhood place to meet friends and get good and affordable food. I like the changes. The soup is better. The less-fussy decorations are less-fussy and dusty, and the food is enough the same and enough better for us to continue going often. The waitresses are good and the food came out fast. I do miss the familiar faces of the waitresses. I hope they are all well and good. But it reminds us that progress is good sometimes. This is a still Mom's Kitchen! read more

Ate here at least monthly for over 30 years when it was Mom's. They were always friendly & accommodating. Had been to Il Posto a couple of times. Went there recently & walked out. Asked for a booth that was empty, told it was reserved. Fine. We were seated @ a high-top directly under blasting A/C vent. Another booth opened up a few minutes after being seated there. Went to hostess to see about sitting there, but was told she was saving it for someone who she just got off phone with, even though she'd told us she'd move us to a booth when one opened. When I suggested we weren't pleased, because we'd been there requesting a booth before the phone call came in, she did apologize, but assured there's nothing she could do! So, we left and won't be back. And, had a fantastic dinner not far down the road where hadn't been before! There are so many great places to dine in this area, no need to subject one's self to shoddy treatment. All good things must come to an end! read more

Just ate here today. If this is Mom's then this mom is cooking from a can. (the garbage can) This has got to be the worst restaurant at the Jersey Shore. The shrimp scampi scampi consists of 5 baby shrimp; not medium but baby shrimp floating in margarine and oil. The lemon chicken is poached chicken breast in a yellow flour mass made to look like a lemon wine sauce. I tasted jarred marinara sauce once, and that sauce was 5 star compared to the sauce at Mom's. The salad is tasteless. The sandy tasting grated cheese did not help the salad nor the sauce. The piece de resistance was the Italian cheesecake which was dry and tasteless. Our whole party could not believe how bad the food was. I ate here years ago and it was good. Apparently Mom's Recipes have not been followed. If I were a waitress at Mom's, I would be embarrassed to serve this food, especially the shrimp scampi. You have to see it to believe it. Wanted to give this restaurant no stars, but Yelp will not allow. read more

My boyfriend and I made the mistake of eating here twice. The first time we ordered pizza and it wasn't crispy enough to hold it's shape so the next time we visited we requested that our pizza come out crispy. What we received was a pizza with very little sauce. In fact the center area of the pizza tasted as if they had only spread sauce around the edges. Our waitress basically dropped off our pizza and then disappeared for the next 30 minutes. When she finally resurfaced she made a comment that it must be the mushrooms on the pizza making it too moist. One, the mushroom topping on our pizza was scarce at best. Two, we've gone to other places and have received a crispy thin crust pizza with mushrooms on it. The pizza also took way longer to arrive at our table given the lack of patrons in the restaurant on a friday night. Our consensus after reading the other yelp reviews and our experience: not worth our money. In fact, there wouldn't be a loss to the restaurant world if this place closed.... which is where it is heading by pushing out subpar food. read more

This is not the Mom's you remember. For those of you who didn't like it in the past go give it another try! The food menu and the bar menu have both been updated. The Mom's of the past, although we would go several times a year, was not a place we would recommend for good Italian food. It was mediocre at best, but a convenient, friendly place to dine at. What we did love was their pizza. Best pizza around. Well not only is the Pizza still great, but we tried the Pasta with broc rabe and sausage and it was fantastic!! We also tried a couple of Martini's from the new bar menu and they were outstanding! We were a little taken back by the changes at first, but after giving it a try we are looking forward to going back and trying other dishes. This "new" Mom's is a restaurant we would definitely recommend for good Italian food. Oh, and they have added live music also. Go give it try! We loved it!! read more
