Good food and service, nice atmosphere. I've been here a few times and always had good food and drinks. Service personnel are nice.

I DO NOT recommend. I am a local and dine-out in the area regularly. The service was beyond inattentive. We went for my dads birthday and waited 40 minutes for someone to come to the table to take a drink order. We brought it to the attention of other staff members three times and waited another 20 minutes for our drinks to be delivered. The service never improved. Never saw a manager. We would have left if we thought somewhere else could accommodate a party of 10 without a reservation. But clearly making a reservation at Il Posto holds no weight. Food was forgotten, and when it was dropped at the table, we didn't see a server for at least 10 minutes. We're lucky we got a second round of drinks, although some of them were forgotten. The food was mediocre at best, but definitely not good enough to compensate for the horrible service. Don't waste your time or money. Spread the word. read more

We really truly want to love Mom's Kitchen but our visit this week was unfortunately disappointing. Let me begin by saying my husband and I have had many good meals here in the past, but we also have not been here in about a year. Four of us went to dinner: Stuffed mushrooms appetizer was delightfully yummy. But we were sad to see that they don't offer a "big" salad for the table which we all usually enjoyed. Two people at our table ordered veal parmesan and portions were very very small- it was about the size of a playing card. Another person ordered chicken and had the largest plate of food at the table. I ordered veal francese which was very good. The portion of veal was larger than the veal parmesan but it came with fettuccini that was basically cream and pasta- no flavor. We all agreed that the cheesecake dessert was the best part of our meal and simply wonderful. All of the waitstaff is new and it shows. Our service was extremely slow at times yet the restaurant had only 6 tables occupied while we were there. Apps and salad came out very fast and then it took at least 45 minutes from the time the staff cleared our apps and salad bowls for our entrees to come out. We believe it is partly because at about 7 pm all of the waitstaff were sitting in the back of the restaurant having their own dinners. At times we had to flag down our waitress for drink refills as most of the staff was busy doing other things like filling salt and pepper and folding napkins I think. While you can tell the restaurant is attempting to evolve their image-new tables and chairs and fresh paint, which was a much needed improvement- the things that we loved about Mom's Kitchen (service and food quality) has taken a hit. I am sad to see this and my husband left saying "never again" but I am hoping that really won't be true. read more

From the hostess who would rather be anywhere but at this restaurant to the waitress who carries a bowl of pasta with her thumb dipping into the sauce, this restaurant is a real stinker. Was at Mom's kitchen a few weeks ago for the first time in awhile. I had frequented Mom's regularly for over 20 years because it was a dependable "red gravy" Italian restaurant. It WAS a simple, traditional Italian restaurant with a nice thick tomato sauce, fresh pasta and great meatballs. Mom's never tried to be something different and I could depend on that fact. It has recently changed owners and has a totally new menu .The new owners seem to be trying to cater to a different (I suspect yuppier ) clientele. In doing so, I think they have lost the many diehard Pisano's who loved the place for years. The food was poor. I ordered my usual, cavatelli with meat sauce and meatballs. (It was not on the new menu but they said they could make it) The cavatelli were very mushy, more like gnocchi. The tomato sauce tasted like it was from a jar. Clearly, this was not the same tomato sauce recipe that Mom's had been using for years (or the regular chef was out sick and they lost the recipe). Meatballs were soft and mushy. My friend ordered braciole which he also said was poor relative to his past meals at Mom's. He could not finish it. Although someone who has never been to Mom's before might find something on the menu they like, for the old Mom's die hard patrons, I suspect the new Mom's will seriously disappoint. The service was even worse. All the older, admittedly grumpy at times, yet motherly blue-hair's who had been working at mom's over the years are gone. We were served by a young girl who seemed like we were an annoying speed bump between her and her paycheck. We had a few questions about the food (since the menu was different). It appears she new nothing about the food at all although she pretended to. Turns out, when we got our meals they were very different from what she has described to us. 10 minutes after we ordered she came back to our table to ask us what we ordered, she could not read her writing. We asked for bread twice since she never brought any to the table. She gave me the wrong check at the end of the evening. This is the first time in 10 years I have given less than a 20% tip. As we walked out of the restaurant, we bid a sad farewell to Mom's with the realization that our 20 year home base for good Italian comfort food was gone. All good things must come to an end I guess. Basic Red Sauce Italian fare. My only question is , Why does Chicken Parm appear at least times on the same menu? It's listed Ala Carte, then with "Mom's Special" with soup or salad , side pasta then under 'specials" with salad. Really 3 times for the same dish on different pages?Make the menu a bit simpler please so it doesn't take people twenty minutes to figure whats what. I've been here four times the best thing they have is the pizza imo. Our waitress was literally running around from table to table, not sure if she got sat all at once or was just in over her head. It was weird watching someone run a round a 10x10 area. As a former waiter, I just wanted to say to her, if you would just stop and ask "Do you need anything else?" Then people wouldn't continually have to flag her down and ask for basic items. She would slam the item down and sprint off. Not as bad as I am making it but just wasn't relaxing. It certainly has a loyal customer base which clears out early. All said they are nice people and I do like it but they need to reset and pick it up a notch. read more

Went for the first time last night. Busy on a Friday night but we made a reservation and had a booth for 2 people. I had the ravioli special which was short rib ravioli (made there) in a mushroom Marsala sauce which was delicious. Penne bolognese was quite good. Very good bread for the table. Hallelujah! Finally a restaurant that knows how to cook veal cutlet! Had dinner there last night and the food was delicious and well prepared. The bread is delicious too! Highly recommend this restaurant. The service is great and we were made to feel at home immediately. Sunday, 9/10/17: Was in town for a wedding and came back to Il Posto for dinner twice. Our waitress, Samantha, was friendly and helpful. We started with clams and I had the grouper with a side of escarole and white beans. The fish was tender and delicious. They changed owners last year and gave the place a fresh look. Staff is incredibly friendly. I like the specials $5 whole pizza or spaghetti and meatballs on Mondays. The bar pies and rice balls are a nice treat too. I do miss the Stuffed Shells Ala Papa....but they will make it if I want it. read more

The salad was wet. Like it was rinsed but not dried. I tried to order braciole but they were out. Instead I ordered chicken wrapped in prosciutto. It was very bland and was wrapped in regular ham not prosciutto. And to top it off the fork they gave me was some tiny salad fork. The waitress was nice but we won't be back. read more

We sat at our table for a good 20 minutes before a unmotivated waitress finally took our drink order . Another 15 minutes later we still didn't get our drinks or were able to order our food . This place is super awesome, the staff is super nice and the food was great. Our bartender/server Lisa was super nice and attentive. She answered all our questions and was time efficient getting our order in and our food to us. The food was delicious, being Italian myself I sometimes am a hard critique on Italian food. The salad was amazing and I got the ziti with eggplant and olives, so delicious. The mashed potatoes were also great. Another patron was eating at the bar and you could tell she was super happy as well and Lisa got her everything she wanted also. I've tried it a few times and I wanted to like the place. The food is inconsistent and sub par. My salmon was completely over cooked along with stale bread. We only Sat at the bar and our server Lisa was lovely. But that couldn't make up for the watery sauce and digestive issues that I had the next day. So many issues! First, I ordered a lemon drop Martini, they rimmed it with salt. Second drink, Aperol Spritz, undrinkable. Appetizer: burrata salad: good, calamari: tender but not crisp, clams casino okay. Dinner: pork brasciole okay, not great, not enough sauce or rigatoni. Spaghetti with clams sauce- mediocre. My friends and I used to eat here over ten years ago and decided to return for what we remembered as decent food. Dinner for three, with two glasses of overpriced house wine, was slightly over $100, which by the NYC standards that I'm used to, was quite reasonable. As soon as the bread arrived, I had a bad feeling. It looked like a small loaf of Italian bread but the inside was similar to wonder bread. Soft and bland. Some butter would have helped but the tiny containers must have been stored in liquid nitrogen and were rock hard. One of us had the Chicken Murphy. It had six pieces of chicken and about 20 large pieces of potato, all covered in a bland sauce. It looked like a dog's dinner. Two of us had Shrimp Ptarmigan over Fettuccine. The shrimp was covered in a thick, pasty, wet breading and the Fettuccine was overcooked. The patrons seemed to be eating mostly Pizza which by comparison looked good. In an attempt to salvage the experience we had some of the Italian Cheesecake. I hate to use this line since it precludes me using it again, but it was the worst cheesecake I have ever tasted. It was bone dry and tasted like speckle. We left it uneaten and the waiter mercifully deducted it from the check. The nostalgia factor was high since the place looked the same, but unfortunately, as Thomas Wolfe said, "You can never go home." I'm a third generation Italian and the experience was a disgrace to our culture. read more

Waited over 2 hrs for our dinners - finally at 8:40 we told the manager we would need to pay for what we had because it was getting too late - we had 3 kids with us - the manger quickly copped an attitude and said this was not a fast food place - we are vegetarian - all dinners were pasta and basic so the 2 plus hour wait - empty bread bowls and table of dirty salad dishes made no sense in comparison to his fast food reply. Last night my family and I (9 of us)went to Il posto. We arrived at the restaurant at 6:30. We waited 30 minutes for 2 glasses of wine and 1 martini. We had 3 children with us and we ordered their food right away....it took the kitchen 1 hour to get three kids dinners out. We then waited another hour and a half and still did not have our dinners. At 8:30 we politely told the manager that we would pay for what we had but could no longer wait for the adults dinners. My family and I were shocked at the managers response when he told us "this is not fast food." My sister, husband, and I have been in the restaurant business. We were highly offended by his attitude. Honestly I was not impressed by the food or the professionalism of the staff. We started at the bar where I ordered a jalapeño margarita... it was served in a regular glass that they would serve a soda in. The margarita was just okay..it was too sweet. Note: the bartender was very nice. Okay we were seated all the way in the back booth and it was hard to get our waiter or anyone to help us when we needed something. We ordered the Moms salad...ehhh.. not impressive, just average. Ordered the pumpkin ravioli..the ravioli itself was very fresh and I loved that but the pumpkin filling was bland, like it came out of the can and was placed in the ravioli without any spices (nutmeg, cinnamon...something), it was complimented with sage... completely overwhelming! It was supposed to be in a brown sugar butter sauce, it tasted like butter that was in the fridge uncovered and then heated up...I had to send it back. We had the cavatelli with broccoli rabe and sausage...the cavetteli was delicious and fresh, the sausage was really good (chopped and out of the casing), the brocolli rabe was undercooked but okay. The broth was so good!!! Opted not to have dessert. Now the staff.... well they were young and it seemed unorganized. Our waiter was very, very nice but very hard to get when we needed him. Our app came but we never got clean plates so we just at off the plate in the middle of the table (the other option was to use our dirty salad plates) we had to hail someone over to remove the plates later on or they would have stayed there. We had to ask for bread. We had to get up to find someone to get our waiter for our check. We had waited very long for him to deliver the check. Again the staff was nice but I wouldn't go back. :-( read more

About the worse Itialian food I have had since I can remember. I had Mom's special veal francese and fettuccine Alfredo which is a regular on their menu. The Alfredo looked like potatoes when it came out swimming in tasteless white sauce. Small portions of the veal, which was slightly better than the alfredo. I have eaten here a long time ago when I remember it was a good place to go. Will not return to Mom's, take Pete & Elders or Vic's any day over Mom's. We have been going to Mom's for 34 years. The ambience is fine for a family oriented,local restaurant. Anything with their red sauce is very good, pizza is great, raviolis are homemade and eggplant is delicious. The chef salad supreme is also quite tasty. Service is generally good, and pricing for food and drinks is very fair. Will always recomend Mom's Kitchen. read more

We've been coming here for years...since back in the Mom's Kitchen days. PLEASE bring back the Mom's Kitchen days! The food quality has suffered so much...spaghetti and meatballs was not only paltry in portion but the sauce was a horrible watered-down jar sauce (at best.) The chopped speciality house salad was so bogged down in dressing, it was a soggy mess. The eggplant parmesan was actually quite good, and so was the bread! In all they need to step it up. If your expecting that warm, family restaurant with reasonable prices that was Mom's...it's not it anymore. Too bad. read more

I have never written a review for a restaurant but felt I had no choice. I figure everyone has a bad day but this was a joke. I booked the private room for a rehearsal dinner and it was by far the worst service I have ever encountered in a restaurant. I had to actually go get someone after 15 minutes to take our drink orders. We ordered Antipasto initially and after 1/2 an hour I asked about it. We never did receive it. The meals came extremely late, there were no follow up for beverages. One person finally just left without getting her dinner because she got tired of waiting. It was that bad. The waiter would just disappear. I booked it and I was down right embarrassed because other places were suggested. We were there for hours. No one ordered desert figuring it would just add another forty five minutes onto an already ruined and dragged out meal. Then the bill came and they tacked on the gratuity because the party was about 18 people. I let it go but it was down right offensive to pay for such poor service. read more

When we walked in here we felt like we stepped back in time about 40 years ! ! This restaurant REALLY needs a make over ! ! ! ! The decor is VERY outdated. If the food was decent we could have overlooked the decor but that was definitely not the case ! ! ! ! First of all our appetizer, shrimp cocktail, had 4 EXTREMELY small shrimps. These were definitely salad shrimps, NOT shrimp you would expect in a shrimp cocktail ! ! ! ! ! The crab cakes had absolutely no crab in them. And the "crab" that WAS in it, was imitation crab meat. Nonetheless, they were HORRIBLE and not edible. We ordered veal as an entree. I've never had veal that thin or tough before, EVER ! ! Service was horrible, bartender was nasty and the hostess made us wait 15 minutes for a table even though we had a reservation. Mind you, there were a lot of empty tables, so we couldn't understand why we had to wait. The only thing anywhere close to good was the salad. Mom's Kitchen is hands down my favorite Italian restaurant in Monmouth county. The new menu and renovations have really drawn me back in to this historic restaurant. The chicken parm is fantastic, but the osso buco makes my mouth water just thinking about it. Do yourself a favor and try out the new menu at Mom's. I think everyone will be pleasantly surprised. Went to Mom's Saturday, Nov 8th expecting to order the same fabulous deal we had twice before. You could not beat it. Soup, salad, entre, pasta, desert and coffee for $16. That was not the case. The entire menu was new and the prices went way up.Lowest price was $19 for one item, roasted chicken. average entrée was in the $30 range and did not come with a side of pasta. When we left about 6:30 on a Saturday night there were many empty tables. I am afraid if they do not bring back more of the old menu and prices they will fold. The white haired lady is no longer seating people. Hope she is ok. The service was good and our waitress was very pleasant. They still serve a great salad. The food was good enough. So, we were lucky enough to be taken here for a nice Saturday night dinner. We were a bit put off by the "diner" feel when we walked in - the place was fully decked out in both Father's Day decorations with a golf motif and Back to School decorations - all of which looked like they came from the dollar store. We ordered a bunch of appetizers, and a pizza. After getting our salads, our attitudes about the decorations changed because the food is absolutely delicious and fresh. We were also told that "Mom" goes all out for every holiday and it is a tradition for locals to come in, if not, only to see the decorations put up. Definitely worth a trip - grab a pizza, you won't regret it. read more
