Once again I'm frustrated with no half stars. C'mon Yelp! This is a 3 & 1/2 star rating here! Years ago we at at Mom's Kitchen at least once a week. I gave up on Moms a few years ago. I guess I tired of the menu and just didn't care for their pizza. A staple like spaghetti and meatballs was mediocre. I imagine some of the old "Moms" clientele are disappointed that Il Posto is not Mom's Kitchen II, but even though they may have kept a few menu items intact, this is a new restaurant and I am rating it as such. I P has a more upscale look; it doesn't feel like a family restaurant anymore. That's OK with me. They kept the knotty pine, took down a wall or two, and made the place better visually. High tops by the bar are a nice touch. They have added a couple of taps and I'm glad to see they offer Little Dog beer which is brewed just blocks away. We ordered a family style salad which was fresh, homemade Italian dressing I presume, and very enjoyable. One of us ordered the mussels marinara. I could have dipped a whole loaf of their excellent bread in the broth. I got the bracciole on rigatoni. It consisted of a pork rib, a meatball, a piece of sweet sausage and bracciole. In case you were wondering it's rolled flank steak, parsley, parmesan, garlic cooked in sauce like meatballs. The meatball and sausage were perfect; moist and tasty. The rib and the bracciole were good but they were on the dry side. What kept Il Posto from attaining four stars was the fact that the only item that was hot on the plate was the bracciole. Pasta, rib, sausage, meatball were all just barely warm. If the whole plate were cool, I'd expect the dish to have been sitting on a counter waiting to be picked up; yet one item was hot. It seems to me there's a systemic problem here. It's not as though the restaurant was packed and the kitchen was backed up. Probably no more than 30 patrons. More care needs to be taken in the kitchen. My wife said her entrée could have been warmer too. This is a tough business. Patrons are demanding. It's seemingly little things like this that can add up to disaster if not taken care of. I can see a lot of potential here; the menu, staff and atmosphere are very nice. It's up to Il Posto to step up to the challenges. On a positive note our server and bus staff were excellent! I feel prices are commensurate with the quality of the food. Had dinner at the old Mom's Kitchen, now II Posto. We had frequented Mom's Kitchen many times in the past & it was always good. I like the new look of the new place. They took down the wall between the bar & dining area, leaving all the wood walls, which really opened it up. There is new, modern lighting & nicer table settings. Service was prompt & out waitress was personable. We were served some of the best warm bread I have had out in a long time. We ordered a family style salad as well as mussels in white wine sauce. The salad was easily enough for the four of us & good; the mussels were also good. For dinner I ordered the penne with bolognese sauce. It was quite tasty, but not hot. Overall I enjoyed my dinner & think this place deserves a solid 3.5 stars, which unfortunately is not a Yelp option. I plan on returning & hope to give it a solid 4 next time. read more

Ate here last night with another couple. Place was recommended by a friend. Service was slow. Server was very nice, she just seemed a little overwhelmed. Of the four of us only one really enjoyed their meal. Chicken parmigiana was over cooked and tough. Girls both got fish dishes and were disappointed. Salmon smelled very fishy. Zuppa de pesce was good. Overall a disappointment. A place we will not be returning to. read more

We decided to give this small restaurant another chance after the bad experience we had 3 years ago. We're sorry that we bothered. This time we went early (6pm) on a Monday night figuring it would not be as busy and slow as a weekend. Wrong. We waited 2 hours from time we sat down to time the entrees came out of the kitchen. That is not acceptable. They take reservations and have been in business for many years. They should know how many customers are coming and be prepared for that number. We did not order appetizers. They did bring drinks, bread and salads (with tasteless dressings) out fairly quickly. Waitress got one of the orders wrong but we did not send it back because the person was so hungry and did not want to wait for another order to be made. he just ate it but was not happy with the item. I can't recommend this place. Server came over and bruskly announced "I'll be serving you". No name. Not friendly. Just like she had to be there. Do NOT order the Maryland crab balls. No idea what they were supposed to be, but these 2 fried balls had zero taste. Certainly not one iota of crab in them. Chicken Francese was over salted. Terrible. Fried calamari barely average. Went there late at night and I thank you guys for accommodating us, the bread that was served at first was great, our starters was crab cake and Brussels sprouts, both of them were good, but our main entree was just OK ( nothing great ). Service was very poor came to the table only to leave our food and give us the check. Although I really liked that they had us 30 minutes before closing.Almost sure I would come back to give it another shot. read more

This one of our new favorite places, especially on Tuesday nights. This restaurant is a little hard to find on the back streets of Neptune / Asbury Park but never disappoints. Service is not notch from the young lady who seats you to the wait staff (props for Patrick). Tuesdays offer half priced apps which is a great opportunity to try everything you can. The crab cake balls and clams casino are phenomenal. We ordered the Chicken Franchise and Veal Saltimbocca (Franchise sauce on the thin side but the Veal dish was done right). Paired with a classic ambiance and great live music (Andy and Dee Dee Acoustic). I highly recommend I'll Posto. read more

I know that restaurant are struggling but. We are also trying to help with dining at their restaurant So we came to dine with our grandchildren and married children. We purposely came at 5:30. I told the waiter please the kids are 3 and 5. We have limited time. Apps and pizza came rather quick. Entrees is over and hour and 25 mins to come. We are sending the kids home and asked for dinner to go. Thank tool and additional 30 min I am very disappointed. Could not comment on the food. It took a very long time to get our dinners to go. We had 3 tables who walked out waiting 2 hours plus. They complained loudly about cold and late food. The manager and staff, Saw what what was happening "no I am sorry." Have a drink on us. Nothing ! Ok strike 2 with this place .... After supporting this restaurant all through covid through take out orders loyally I was super annoyed when I called in a take out order ( for pick up not even delivery!) at 6:30 pm and told they couldn't accommodate pick up orders only dine in or delivery through door dash. Makes NO sense that they would rather me NOT pick up my food then get delivery... seems almost counter productive to them but whatever... I let it go and tonight ordered through door dash - as told. Through the door dash menu there was an option for a LG or SM Stromboli... ordered LG which was $19 .. what we received was a TINY Stromboli which wouldn't even pass for a sm at other restaurants. We called to simply tell them there was a mix up expecting for at MINIMUM a credit for the difference between sm/LG (a $6 difference). Got insane push back from hostess and 3 other people including a manager saying they couldn't do anything ( about an empanada size Stromboli for $19!) and they said they don't offer two sizes that door dash shouldn't have offered .... Insane as they make the menu and door dash simply fulfills ‍ every person I was passed off to was incredibly rude and basically said "too bad" I DO NOT complain about food often but if I ever have had a problem with the wrong order arriving ( and being charged for it) local establishments are always quick to rectify ..... I'll stick to my other neighborhood favorites (from now on) that treat their loyal customers WELL such as domicks and John's Cracker Barrel - Also the Stromboli was half raw on top of everything else which they also didn't seem to care about. read more

Beautiful scenery but not much more. My pasta and chicken dish probably contained more water in it than I could have purchased for the $20 something dollars I spent on it, even after returning it after trying the chicken to find it soggy and bland in flavor. Every one of the 5 people in my group found their dished to taste watered down, as though one of the chefs did not care and was just throwing the very bland and rather awful for the price we paid pasta on the dish without fully straining it. After I returned the pasta dish and ordered a pizza instead (they still charged the full price even though all I had done was cut the chicken up and try one piece) it arrived in decent time and the waiter was very polite, handling it well and making sure to check our table even when it was very busy. I wanted the pizza to be good but only the outside rim of the crust was crisp, the middle of the pizza was soggy and flavorless. Needless to say I, anyone else I talk to about this restaurant and everyone that was with me that night will not be coming back. read more

This is a good neighborhood Italian restaurant, I'm from Brooklyn and moved to the Shore 6 months ago and this has been the best Italian I've had down here. Reminds me of a NY establishment. Thrilled to have 're' discovered IL Posto after not having been since the 60's when it was Moms Kitchen. Don't know how I missed it all this time. This is the kind of place that seems to be fast disappearing from the landscape but hopefully the faithful following there will keep it going and successful. Food is simply sublime. Sampled veal saltimboca and beef short ribs recently among other delicacies and everything has been delicious. Ambiance is cozy and comforting- as if it's been frozen in time- in a good way. Nice renovation of the legendary Mom's Kitchen. Adequate space between tables; bar area has better TV's. Prices have risen, and "quantity over quality" crowd may balk for that reason. I'll balk for a few other reasons. Meal came out about 3 minutes after salad was brought to the table. No biggie; it happens. Salad adequate; dressing fair. Shrimp parmigiana-shrimp were fresh and accompanying pasta was good. Kicker is the red sauce was extremely bland; the seasoning (or lack thereof) was what you would expect from a generic Italian Wegman's or Stop and Shop takeout order. Need to rehire Mom's chef yesterday. Chicken Murphy was fair at best; chicken a bit tough and sausage much poorer quality than Mom's. Waitress could not be found with a search party for additional salad dressing or a second glass of wine. Busboy did come to the table five times to see if we were done with our meal (total time at table, about 1 hour and 15 minutes). Plenty of other tables were open; no one waiting to be seated. Will give it one more try; hope things improve as it's nice to have an Italian alternate to Jimmy's (best around!) in the area. Note: Bar area might be good for sports viewing and a few lite bites as the football season arrives, as a few items on the menu can be ordered as half portions. read more

Disappointing from start to finish. 630 reservation-30 minutes to place and order. Salad order came out wrong Pizza and dinner ordered to be set down together. Pizza came 30 min earlier than dinners but was not for sharing. Rigatoni bolognese came out with 7 pieces of pasta and a bowl of oily meat sauce. Inedible. Salmon mushy and under a mountain of ? Didn't fault the servers but meal was almost $100 and had to get ice cream after because we were hungry. I never leave reviews but let this serve as a warning. Great Italian cuisine and food like your grandmother would make. Their pizza is the best around. Full bar. Cozy seating. Their entrees are simple comfort dishes. Their lasagne, ravioli and pasta are done perfectly. Their sauces are tasty. The appetizers are amazing, meatballs, artichokes, risotto balls all wonderful. One of the longest waits for food I have ever experienced. The food was alright- one of the pastas was incredibly al dente, and the two short ribs were very dry. The servers were great and kept bringing us bread because they felt bad about the wait, but I had gluten free members in my party who were really uncomfortable and starving within the 1+ hour long wait for our entrees. They and the kitchen were aware of the dietary restriction. Pretty inappropriate and I would have expected a significantly shorter wait on a Monday night. read more

We go to Italian restaurants all over the state. Some of the best pasta fagoli I've ever had and reasonably priced for most food.

This is about the fourth time I've eaten there and the food is always outstanding. Live music is as good as you're going to get anywhere and the owner is constantly around making sure the tables are taken care of. Their bread is as good as buying a loaf on Arthur Avenue in the Bronx. Highly recommend try the banana peppers stuffed appetizer. read more

My family has been coming here since the 1950's. We have all been separately to the restaurant since new owners and sadly all things change. The pizza was still good, but we no longer drive there with our children for a meal or a date night. The place would keep our 8 and 2 yo entertained with all the decorations, now it is more upscale and loud when there are people in there. We just had a large party this past weekend and would always go to Mom's. We chose Delvettos instead and had the comfort food that Mom's use to provide. read more

We stop by mom's kitchen tonight for a fine Italian classic meal. We started off with excellent Italian bread and a fantastic house salad. The soups we had were like water I had the minestrone soup. But from this point everything seemed to go downhill. I ordered the lasagna , the pasta was chewy and doughy. I've had better frozen lasagna. I did not even finish it. Disco Berta had Veal Frances, the sauce was decent the pasta was decent, but the veal was tough and overcooked. Uncle Mike had Chicken Marsala, it was was like chicken marsala Soup. I've never seen chicken with so much Marsala sauce surrounding it. The portion was small. Captain James had the chicken parmesan ,which might have been the best dish at the table ,still nothing spectacular. For dessert we had a cheesecake ,which seem to be old and stale almost like it was previously frozen. The service was friendly but at times the waitress would, get lost. This place used to be "mom's kitchen". They re-did the interior, all new stone and wood and nice. I came here for New Year's Eve with a party of four, and we had a very nice dinner. My good friend had an opportunity to get into the restaurant business to restore Mom's kitchen as the go to Italian restaurant at the Jersey Shore. It is truly a family runned restaurant with the "three boys" in charge. Rich jr a professionally trained chef stolen from the Four Season's of Palm Beach. Steve is behind the bar and Chris runs the front of the house. Now let's review the food! The menu includes the standard pasta dishes but the pasta here is made fresh daily! They have modernized the menu but have kept Mom's favorites. I had the veal chop off the specials menu and the house cured salmon. It was a WOW! The chef is really making a statement here. We've been to Il Posto several times. The food is good -- not great. Most go for pizza or traditional Italian dishes like veal parmesan. We don't. Last night my husband ordered Zuppa di pesce -- it was average. I ordered the Veal Cannelloni -- it was terrible. It was like an Italian version of shepherds pie......but without any flavor and any vegetables. I couldn't find the cannelloni shells....all I saw was ground meat and more ground meat. Aside from the layer of mozzerella on top, there was little or no taste. Suggestion: take this off the menu or find out how to make a true cannelloni dish. P.S. Live music was very good. read more

Sorry to say I was very disappointed for the second time here. It's Not moms kitchen . They served us the moms special antipasto salad with old lettuce that had a bad taste not only wilted. We sent that back and tried the calamari which was over cooked and rubbery. Then sadly a pizza which came with peppers and onions barely cooked. Not a good night on all counts and it was a simple meal not sure I want to try any entrees after that. read more

Horrible. Should have never returned....we stopped going about 2 years ago because of the lack of service or poor service and quality of food hit or miss but decided to give it another chance. Ordered 4 apps one for each of us and they only brought 3 to the table so I had to wait while others ate there apps..after eating my late appetizer the Veal Parm arrives with Black mozzarella burned to a crisp...had to to figure out what I was eating beneath hard burned crust...the place has all its favorite customers and caters to them only your just a filler to make up the number of heads they push through...waiter wasn't on point but was the only one taking orders In the entire place...regardless I felt bad and still gave a very generous tip...the owner /bartender doesn't like being told they screwed up early in the ordering process and while leaving was pretending to watch a basketball game rather than thanking us for putting up with such a lousy experience as we were about the only customers left in the restaurant...with restaurants suffering during this unprecedented time you'd think they would be much more appreciative, but not this place...save your money there are plenty of other restaurants with better service and quality food that would be very happy your there to support them...if I could give less than one star I would...place stinks with an attitude never again!!! read more

I came to my fav secret local spot after months of waiting..I called for a reservation and got a great tall table for three no problem..The young Hostess was courteous and accommodating..Our server Heather was informative and totally on mark..We had great appetizers and our dinner came out promptly..love the tent atmosphere and Chris n Steve have really made this place more special than it already was..A secret Oasis plus !..The food was amazing..fresh..and my son and his fiancé were very impressed..this was a special nite for us..my son is going into the Army on Sept 20..and it was a celebration of his 19th bday too..Thankyou Ilposto And Staff for making our evening one to remember..BRENDA. Have supported this restaurant since April and close down. Tonight we had a reservation for 6:30. Our meal was served at 9:16!!!! Will never support them again. Food is good. Staff is friendly. Past orders have been wrong and we have let them slide. Tonight server LOST our order ticket and finally at 8:30 someone came over and asked us if we ordered- SINCE we had been waiting for TWO hours for our appies. Was sitting in the back and heard them say she lost the ticket BUT they Apologized they were short a server. Sorry. No go. In this business you have to acknowledge/own it/ and try to make it right. Will never go back!!! Food is good. But not THAT good to have to deal with this kind of poor service read more
