Came here for brunch with my mom and my sister yesterday afternoon. We sat outside as it was nice and hot yesterday. The place itself is beautiful and spacious. They have a dj for brunch that plays cool 80s throwbacks that had me jamming while sipping on my mimosas. The server took a while to take our order. Which is probably my only complaint about this place. The service could've been faster. They took pretty long to refill drinks and it wasn't really crazy busy. But the server was really nice and friendly. I got the bruschetta salad as an app which was delicious. The mozzarella cheese was fresh. Dressing was spot on. As an entree I got the shrimp Alfredo ($9 extra for shrimp). The Alfredo was amazingly tasty and was a huge portion which I ended taking to go. I would love to come back and try their popsicle cocktail. Unfortunately I was too full to get one afterwards lol. I walked in and was immediately greeted by the friendly staff and incredible aroma of baking pizza. This is an amazing Italian restaurant and it's a must go to. I recommend their pasta, starting with the scampi, their bar tender/mixologist can make any drink you want. read more

HORRIFYING EXPERIENCE (Lice Found) I decided to try this place out today after passing it a few times and right from the start, I could tell it wasn't going to be good. My server (I believe her name was Sandra) looked like she hadn't bathed in quite some time, but I don't judge. After she brought me my food, I noticed a small ant like insect so I called her over like any other paying customer would and she immediately apologized to me and said "I thought I got rid of it all" and then offered to pay for the meal herself. My favorite restaurant on the strip The drinks are always delicious especially their Mojitos and flavored sangria. I never get disappointed with my dishes. They have the best wings! ( weird right?) I usually order the chicken Francese or the penne vodka shrimp. The staff is very friendly, if you frequent the place they'll show you extra love In the summertime it gets hectic especially the outdoor seating because there's always a bunch of nobodies that want to be noticed hogging up the tables instead of eating their meal and going on about their day. We ordered fried calamari n some type of scrimp scampi on top of platanos. Both meal choices were tasty. They brought the olives from the kitchen so I'm guessing they use it to cook. That's why I was tasting oil in my Martini. Another great spot on dyckman but it can get very loud in the evening. They have an indoor restaurant which is very nicely decorated and elegant, we sat on the outside patio, party of 2 so seating was available quickly, The servers were very attentive. We had a caprese salad and the arugula prosciutto pizza and sauvignon blanc wine. Will def be back to try more dishes. read more

On a Monday afternoon, my hubby and I were looking for a quick place to celebrate both our birthdays. The whole weekend had been a bust so we weren't expecting much. We ended up coming here and I must say it was definitely worth it. Our waiter Mikey was absolutely amazing throughout our whole time here. He went above and beyond his job and was super attentive. Fifteen minutes sitting with them, they asked for a check because they want to go somewhere else to do hookah...then another 10 minutes passed and OH MY BEJESUS ITS A HOOKAH...going to ANOTHER TABLE. After a moment of confusion, we called the waitress to offer a decent explanation...not so good of a job then it's decided to speak to the chauvinistic and sexist so called manager Joselo (ppl note this down) about this situation. The intention was for a simple apology on the service and possibly mend the situation with a discount, things managers do to make a customer happy. He explains to the party(of Females) that the restaurant is for drinks and food, CONSTANTLY. I think to myself, then why are they passing around hookahs if it isn't part of the deal? Part of a service a customer would pay for? I decide to jump into the discussion (the way we Dominicans do best) and mention its my first time there and I'm extremely disappointed the way he's speaking to the girls (yes,again all female) He replied with "We don't need you as a customer". I don't tend to eat out much along the "restaurant row" of Dyckman Street west of Broadway and here's why: overpriced food, indifferent service, noisy patrons, and blaring music, while slapping on a veneer of chi-chi decor to be perceived as "upscale". This is the typical nice restaurant in the area. Neighborhood scene-y, Il Sole is all of these qualities and more. It's Italian, but I don't think the chefs have a sense of what makes good Italian food. The quality of ingredients is quite bad (the garlic bread with cheese is pretty much defrosted Texas Toast) and the pastas are much too rich. The sangria is good, but you have to have good sangria to be competitive around here. Most times when I've come here I've had to wait for several minutes just to get someone's attention to put my name down for a seat. This includes during the day when no one is there. Do want my business or would you rather chat with your friend the bartender? Il Sole, I see your appeal. You can be fun. You have lovely sidewalk seating right across from the community garden. The drinks are good. But why so expensive? Why do you simply not give a crap about your patrons? Always, always, I practically have to grab the waitress to get her attention. I had been to Il Sole before, and remembered having a not-groundbreaking, but enjoyable meal. This time however, it was the worst meal I have had in years. Nothing was good. Bread - dry. Calamari - rubbery. Sauce for Calamari - canned tomato sauce. I had remembered that I liked the penne ala vodka - nope. Wine - almost off. As two hungry people that usually love food and are quite good at finding the positives we both wanted to just stop eating and start over somewhere else! I felt like I was in a "Bloopers and Practical Jokes" moment (showing my age) and that at any moment someone would come out of the kitchen saying "Ah, We were just kidding, we know that isn't Italian food! THIS is Italian food!" and they would bring us something that actually looked like a meal an Italian (or anyone else) would eat. Yes, it was so tasteless and un-enjoyable that even though this spot was one of my first food experiences when I moved in a few years ago, and I liked it enough to go back more than once .... I think this place ran its course. It was exciting when it first opened years ago b/c there weren't many other places to choose from aside from MamaJuana's and all the other Dominican joints in the area but something about iL Sole is wack to me these days. I haven't been there in over a year but from what I remember, they don't deliver and nothing on the menu stands out to me. I think the best thing they had going for them for a while was Fabolous' ex girlfriend working there as a bartender. He's been spotted there a few times too but other than that... sub par fare and mediocre service is all I remember. Haven't given up completely on iL Sole. I think they can do better with indoor seating arrangements. I know it's small and the space is tight, but they place table's in awkward locations (such as to close to the bar/or right by the entrance). The food here is great, I can't complain. If your looking for authentic Italian food, you don't come to a Dominican neighborhood for it, If that's your mind set you will be disappointed. I forgot that one of my first visits to this place was a nightmare because our waitress decided to take a 20 minute break AFTER we asked for the check and before she brought it to us! But I continued to go and order delivery, and my previous review stands, except that delivery has become a drag. My last order was simple, just two entrees and garlic bread. I'd had a long conversation with the guy taking the order asking him what he recommended. I placed the order, he repeated it, and then he left one entree out completely! When I got my delivery sans 2 entrees I called and he couldn't even remember our long conversation. It had only been like 30 minutes! He apparently one put 1 entree on the order. I really enjoy this restaurant, but I live in the neighborhood so it's a short walk for me. I'm not sure I would travel to Inwood specifically to eat here, but the neighborhood has plenty to offer and if you're around, this is where you should go. I have to agree with the others who have said the portions are massive - I have actually turned 1 serving into 3 meals. I've tried a few different pasta and chicken dishes and have enjoyed them all, although they can be a bit salty. I'm a big fan of salt, so that's a plus for me. I agree that mixed drinks and sangria may not be the best way to go, bit I've had a an excellent bottle of wine and would recommend going that route if you'd like a drink with the meal. The brunch portions weren't as large, but it's a decent meal. I'd say the menu is pretty typical - eggs, fench toast, etc. Service isn't really a make it or break it deal for me, I care much more about how the food tasts. They must have switched kitchen staff and hired a worse chef, or they are now forced to use bad ingredients. In any case, The penne ala vodka with extra chicken was very bland, chicken lacked flavor and it was just really bad quality. The sauce seems like it was from a can with no type of seasoning at all. even the pasta lacked seasoning too. Everything was just really bland and watered down. The eggplant rollatini tasted spoiled and the mozzarella was low quality. the garlic bread was cheap bread and not even toasted properly, it was cold in some spots. Which is crazy since the restaurant is 5 minutes away. All in all this place has gone downhill and it's a shame since they charge so much I'd expect better ingredients. oh well. read more

I came here to celebrate my birthday with family on Tuesday. It was a small group including mami, tia, tio, my cousin, and my boyfriend. Because we have been here a few times before and had a GREAT time I wanted to come back. OUR servers were great. The food was delicious, and the dj was good also. Not to mention the sangria. To die for. Cons: The only reason why I'm giving this fabulous place 3 stars instead of 5 is because the couple that sat next to us smelled like weed and one of the employees was so rude to my boyfriend and I. She was out of line and honestly had no reason to considering we were leaving. That's right she chased us on our way out just to give us a hard time. We spent nearly $300 that night to enjoy my birthday. Hoping for 2017 management can fix these issues. read more
