Immersion is slinging out great coffee. The La Jolla location is convenient for beach goers and people like me who were in the area watching the surfers one morning. Their orange latte is proper and well made. It's not overly sweet and nicely balanced with espresso and milk (almond is my choice). The little Italy location is the one I regularly frequent but the proximity to the water makes this location even more attractive. Service was good, friendly, and they were swamped as usual.
This was my first time at Immersion Coffee and I had a great experience. I really appreciate that every drink is made to order instead of being pre batched. You can definitely tell the difference in the quality and freshness. The coffee itself was excellent, you can actually taste the flavor of the coffee instead of it being overpowered by milk or syrup. Great service, quality drinks, and attention to detail.
I'm so glad I stumbled upon Immersion Coffee while looking for a good matcha spot in La Jolla. I ordered the strawberry matcha and the black sesame latte. The strawberry matcha was good -- I'd rate it around a 7/10 (and I say that as a matcha lover). It had a nice flavor, but I've definitely had stronger matcha elsewhere. The black sesame latte was my favorite. You can really taste the sesame, which gave it a rich, nutty flavor that stood out compared to other lattes I've tried. Overall, I'm really happy I found this spot and would come back. Next time, I'd love to try more of their drinks -- especially to compare their sesame latte with others.
I really want to like this place but it was a let down. I actually found them out on TikTok and saw how aesthetically beautiful the place was and love that their menu offer minimalist options. The place is super small with maybe 4 tables and a set of chairs outside. They don't have pastries only cookies. I ordered a matcha latte with their house made vanilla bean syrup and my boyfriend ordered a vanilla latte with oat milk. I was surprised on how fast the drinks came out but not in a good way. Everything seems to be pre made and they just dump everything in the cup. Usually when we order matcha/ coffee in other places they make it right there. After we order our drinks we literally got it in 30 secs. I really like the aesthetic concept of the one big block of ice in the drink but it's not convenient when you put in your straw and try to mix. The taste was the biggest disappointment. I barely tasted any matcha it was literally 90% full of milk and I tasted no house made vanilla syrup (very faint taste). The coffee was not strong at all, it was so water down/milk down, no coffee taste. Total 14$ for 2 drinks overall the quality of the drinks were lacking
A coffee shop's success is about so much more than great drinks or a beautiful space--it's about the people behind the counter who make you feel welcome. That was exactly my experience at Immersion Coffee. It was my first visit and although skeptical at first, my experience ended up being incredible. What stood out to me was my server's kindness. Yaz's kind heart, genuine enthusiasm, and exceptional customer service made me feel like a regular from the moment I walked in and truly made my day. The drinks and ambiance are fantastic, but it's people like Yaz who turn a good coffee shop into one you'll keep coming back to. Thank you for such a great first experience--I can't wait to be back!
Immersion Coffee in La Jolla is a great spot to enjoy a latte or matcha with a friend. Minimalistic and orderly, the intimate ambiance can be intimidating at first, but is quickly overwhelmed by the welcoming staff and tasty drinks. Some notes - - Free parking can be found on Nautilus Street, but only for an hour. We risked it and ended up fine. - Our lattes were on the sweeter side, just how I like it. The seasonal black sesame latte is worth getting if you're willing to spend $8 for a drink, but that's to be expected. They were out of stirrers, so we couldn't enjoy the drink to the fullest. - This small location can only accomodate small parties. Don't come here looking for a place to work/study if you require lots of desk space. This is more of a "read a book" type coffee shop. - The shop is located right next to a busy street, which is not ideal for outdoor seating. - The board on the wall had rotating coversation starters, which I thought was a creative touch that I had never seen before.
First time there today! Pretty cool coffee shop, modern and pleasant to the eyes. I like the open view to the baristas work. I am not into matcha but it was very pleasant watching them do their matcha preparations. Cute retro music decor and nice and comfortable furniture to sit outside as the inside is so tiny. It was very enjoyable having a coffee watching people, reading a book while having my capuccino that was pretty good. The coffee shop was packed but inside felt suffocating due to the small space. I wish they had more pastries options. I just saw a couple of items and were not too appetized for me. I will be back to this nice coffee shop when in the area.
Can never go wrong with a strawberry latte. The puree here tasted fresh and sweet, it was lovely and refreshing with the matcha. I had to ask for extra puree because I have a huge sweet tooth. I personally would have liked for the strawberry chocolate latte to be a bit sweeter but that might be a me problem. The coffee tasted a bit strange but overall it was a decent drink. I would love to try their sesame latte next time! There was a line when we got there. Our barista was nice, despite being very busy and having to serve many customers upon just opening. I wanted to try their cookies but they weren't ready in time. This place is located inside a cute food court with many other food options to choose from.
Immersion Coffee is located on a by-way between Bird Rock and downtown La Jolla. Parking will be parallel on the streets, but easy enough to find in the neighborhood. The coffee shop is mostly a gimmick. It's a wannabe listening bar with a belled and whistled audio setup, however, not only was music completely absent during my visit, but it makes no sense since the shop is open-aired and so cramped where no one will be wanting to stay long anyway. They also have those crazed matcha latte creations using that "ceremonial-grade" shizz. They have all the necessary gadgetry to craft great enough espresso, utilizing some random coffee roastery's beans. I DO praise their unique house syrup and drizzle offerings though, ingredients such as "orange compote", "chocolate ganache", and "strawberry puree" adding a touch of elegant depth and luxury. On that note, I actually rather enjoyed the *Orange Latte* (espresso, orange compote, and chocolate ganache) which was refreshing in the summer, somewhat decadent, and unique. A final note on an anomaly I experienced for the first time and only learned about later. Either the workers are very unhappy or I experienced what I would later learn is pointedly called the "Gen Z stare". Like girl seriously? Are you ready to take my order or are you broken!? Can I get a "hello"? It was completely awkward and for a coffee shop that doesn't have much going for it, this lack of customer service -- or, rather, normal human interaction -- really irked me. There are TOO many coffee shops in San Diego so I would really just skip this one.
[Taste: ] You can tell that the owner has a lot of experience in coffee & the process of making matcha. The sesame cookie was so delicious and the perfect cookie consistency. The matcha cream top had a balanced sweetness/so tasty without overpowering the taste of the matcha. My favorite matcha place in La Jolla by far. [Service: ] Good, you can also see the barista hand-whisking every single drink! Truly a personalized experience. [Comments: ] I really loved the interior design, they made the small space modern yet homey.
This is hands down my favorite coffee shop in San Diego for so many reasons. The cafe itself is tiny but absolutely stunning, and everything on the menu is truly impeccable. I'm a big matcha fan, and their strawberry matcha latte is easily one of the best I've ever had. The espresso cream with the sugar rim is unreal and might be one of the best drinks I've ever tasted. On top of that, the staff and baristas are amazing and always so friendly and welcoming. If you haven't tried Immersion Cafe yet, I truly can't recommend it enough.

Coffee: 4.5/5 Service: 3/5 Atmosphere: 4/5 Food: 4.5/5 This little shop is incredibly convenient and close to my work, so I finally decided to give Immersion Coffee a try. The space itself is aesthetically beautiful, clean, modern, and thoughtfully designed. That said, there isn't a ton of seating. Inside there are about 3-4 small tables along the wall, which can feel cramped when people are ordering and waiting for drinks, plus a couple of tables outside. I appreciate the effort to create extra seating, but they're clearly more popular than the space allows, so it can feel a bit claustrophobic at peak times. This place definitely prides itself on their coffee. From my interactions, they are deeply committed to honoring the nuances of the beans. One visit, I watched (who I assume was) the owner bring in glass vials of specialty beans, each carefully labeled with what appeared to be specific preparation instructions. I have massive respect for that level of care and dedication. Truly, A+ commitment. That said, the flip side of this approach is that it can sometimes come across as inflexible or a bit "snooty" about how coffee is prepared and the options they offer. A few friends I've recommended this spot to have voiced similar experiences. There isn't much room for customization. However, what they do offer, they execute exceptionally well. If you're a coffee snob (I say that lovingly), you'll probably really enjoy this place. For drinks, I ordered: Orange Latte (iced): 4.5/5 As soon as I tried this, I genuinely haven't been able to bring myself to order anything else. It's delicious and unlike any other coffee I've had elsewhere. They use large ice cubes (like you'd find in an old fashioned), which keeps the coffee strong and rich as it melts. My only complaint here is functionality. It's a layered drink and very beautiful (IG worthy for sure), but they don't offer stir sticks. Without something to properly mix it, it's hard to fully enjoy how well the flavors come together. They do have straws, but it feels wasteful to use one just to stir a drink I won't actually drink through. That said, this latte is still exceptional and beautifully crafted. I've been tempted to try the strawberry latte, which also is a layered drink and looks lovely. But I actually think this drink would be most amazing as a matcha (they do offer this!) Again, I've just loved the Orange Latte so much I haven't been able to bring myself to order anything else. A few additional drawbacks: at least when I've gone, milk options have been limited (whole milk and oat milk, though I believe almond milk may have been added recently). Service also leaves something to be desired. I almost feel like I'm inconveniencing the staff by stopping in for a coffee. They make amazing coffee, but I'm not sure they enjoy being there. I don't expect fake positivity, but just a smile or a "thank you" or "good morning" goes a long way, especially paired with an already somewhat rigid coffee philosophy. For food, I ordered: Black Sesame Snickerdoodle Cookie: 4.5/5 I've ordered this the last two times I've visited and it's delightful. Not too sweet, warmed up both times, and with a perfect balance between crumbly and chewy. My only real complaint with the food is how limited the selection is, but honestly, this place seems focused on making an incredible cup of coffee, not feeding people, so it's not a meaningful knock. If you're looking for an exceptional latte and don't need modifications, this is easily one of the best cups locally that you'll have. If you're prioritizing service, food variety, or a place to sit and linger for a while, this may not be the most optimal choice. Also, conveniently walkable but it is street parking only. read more

nothing to write home about. I got the MATCHA LATTE w CREAM TOP and it was very average. The cream top is supposed to be sweetened and it tasted like it had one grain of sugar in it. It did however have a good amount of matcha in the drink (once stirred). read more
Came on a Sunday around noon and there was no line. We got the strawberry matcha and matcha cream top. It's a pretty decent matcha though the matcha taste isn't very strong. Drinks were a good amount of sweetness and the strawberry and vanilla flavors were good and not too overwhelming. Cup size was a bit small and the drinks got diluted at the end so the matcha taste was basically gone. Cute but super small space with minimal seating. Service was quick and nice. Windansea beach is close by so I wouldn't mind coming back if I'm in the area. read more

Cute little cafe near Windansea beach! Luckily found parking around the corner and there wasn't a line Sunday around noon. My sister and I got the strawberry matcha and matcha cream top. Even though the matcha taste isn't that strong or prominent, I still enjoyed the drinks and the respective strawberry and vanilla flavors. The drinks did get diluted at the end and were on the smaller size. The two girls working were really nice and drinks came out quickly too! It looks they put a lot of care into making each drink, using a scale. I wouldn't mind coming back if I was in the area! read more
the line was pretty long when i came and ik that they have matcha lattes, but when i was waiting in line the color of peoples matchas did not look great asked n they recommended me the orange latte and i would say it was pretty good!! it was just a regular latte with like a splash of orange flavor but nothing game changing. for the price of like $8 and the size, i think the place is okay. would stop by again if i head over to the beach, but wouldn't go out of my way yummy rating: 6/10 read more

Immersion is tiny, but wow, the coffee more than makes up for it. I'm a self-proclaimed coffee connoisseur, and this is one of those rare spots that makes me feel like I'm cheating on my usual go-to. The top notch service, decor, ambiance, quality, balance, and craftsmanship here are next level. I'm usually not big on more unique or experimental flavor combinations, but the sesame latte... honestly one of the best coffees I've ever had. It's perfectly balanced and feels like true artistry in a cup. I genuinely hope it never leaves the menu. If you care about really good coffee, this place is absolutely worth it. read more

After trying the Little Italy location, I was looking forward to trying Immersion's second location. It wasn't too busy on a Sunday morning around 10:30AM but the store is very small! Definitely get your drinks to go and check out the waves :) The strawberry matcha was delicious but the orange latte was a bit overpowering with the zestiness. Loved the newest location of immersion in La Jolla. Very small spot with limited seating but a few seats outdoors if you get there early. I got the vanilla bean flat white and it was a perfect amount of flavor without being too sweet. We also tried the orange mocha - which was an interesting mashup and a little on the sweeter side but tasty. The cream on top drink was super strong, with a little cream to dilute the espresso but could have used a little sweetness. Overall, enjoyed all our drinks! read more

Cute cafe in La Jolla but be prepared for a long wait on the weekends. Waited about 30 minutes to order but the drinks come out fast after that. I got the orange cream latte and it was creative and delicious. Very strong citrus flavor that pairs well with the chocolate notes of the drink. They put a lot of care into presentation (also hand whisk their matcha!!). Would wait again for the drinks here. read more

Tried this when we were in town visiting. The aesthetic is clean, a bit crowded. Vibe is friendly with customers making small talk and smiling and sharing names of what they ordered which I appreciate. I feel ambivalent about service. The person at the register is also a barista supported by another barista. The cashier was quiet and took my order in a very zen manner. He was there to take my order and prepare my order but no more. He was in the zone. Others have mentioned this and I guess it is what keeps him making perfectly brewed and spectacular coffee, which is what I want. I had the orange latte which was superb and provided a delicious gentle rush of sweetness akin to smelling orange blossoms in the spring. Just perfect. I also had their cortado which was perfect. I do wish they provided lids for their smaller to go cups. Be ready to stand in line for a bit as we all know perfect coffee can't be rushed. read more
This is such a cute and quaint place. I got their strawberry Matcha, which was the perfect level of sweetness and great presentation. There is limited seating inside and outside and there's always a line so I had to try. The cashier was very sweet and helped my friend pick out a drink. Visited Immersion on a Saturday morning and it was pretty packed! Parking was easy to get about a block away on the street, walking there was an ease. It looked like they mainly do take out coffee as the shop is small with a four seat table out in the front and a two seat table next to the outside of the salon a little away from the busy entrance which was nice if you wanted to have a nice conversation with someone. The menu is located by the bar, little hard to see even from the entry of the door, but was very grateful for their alternative oat milk option. Staff was nice, ordering was easy, but I think the orange chocolate latte is definitely an acquired taste. Three of us ordered the orange latte and one of us got the strawberry matcha. Per my friend who got the matcha, it was amazing! For us three who got the orange latte, it was beautifully crafted, but we found the taste of the bitterness and orange zest to be quite strong, we all could not finish our lattes but maybe got halfway through, it was great caffeine but I would definitely choose a different flavor if we come back. I do think however that some people may actually really like the drink if they are a fan of those orange chocolate that you buy at a grocery store. Really liked the look of the store with the large stereos in the wall. But it is definitely a hard place to hangout and talk if it's a busy or crowded day. We saw a few different groups of customers standing and hanging out by the open window area where there's a small bar to place your drink on the side of the store. We were lucky to grab the table outside the shop. Overall it was an okay experience for us, but I would not say no to the orange latte unless you tried it yourself. read more

this place was really cute! it fit the area very well and i hope to be coming back when i go for another walk around the area. My friend and I tried their cookie and it was a delicious addition to my matcha. The drinks came out fairly quick that day as we did come at a quiet time. There is limited seating to be mindful of if you come at a busier time. There is also no lot attached, so we parked in the neighborhood across the street just to be safe. I had the BEST latte of my life here. I stopped by Immersion's farmers market pop-up trailer in San Diego, and wow I'm still thinking about it. I'm a self-proclaimed coffee snob and usually not into sweet drinks, but when I asked for a recommendation, the barista suggested their strawberry latte. I ordered it half sweet, and from the very first sip, I was blown away. Truly the best coffee experience I've ever had--the strawberry flavor was fresh, balanced, and complemented the espresso perfectly. Beyond the coffee, the vibe was great and the service was warm and welcoming. I honestly wish I lived in San Diego so I could come here all the time. If you're a coffee lover (or even if you're not), don't skip this place it's a must-try. read more

The matcha here is super subtle and not as good as other places in sd the strawberry matcha (4/10) just tasted like milk with strawberry syrup. It's a really cozy cafe with not much seating space, but the strawberry matcha and the hojicha butterscotch coffee were perfect. The matcha itself very creamy and the strawberry puree and cream on top were perfect. The cookie was maybe one of the best I'd ever had; def a little rich, but honestly the flavor was amazing. The baristas were both very sweet and amicable. Excited to come back and try other menu options ! read more
