I would give this place a 3.5 stars if I could give half stars. I preordered a half duck two days before for 11 AM on Saturday morning. I tried to call back and make it for a duck, but they said that they had a huge party so we could only get a half duck. I'm not sure how true it was but it was a little disappointing as my fiance and I love duck. We got here around 10:45 AM that Saturday. It is in the Great Wall Shopping Center. There's plenty of parking, but it's obviously kind of a hot mess in there. Be weary. I normally park pretty far away. We were seated and given tea. We decided to also get dim sum. I like that they have the carts. The dim sum was fantastic. I loved the sweet baked pork buns, the preserved egg congee, the siu mai, and the shrimp rice rolls. The pan fried turnip cake had larger slices of turnips then I'm use to. The mango pudding wasn't the best I ever had, but was decent. The congee was the star of the show, super flavorful, and my fiance couldn't stop eating it. The service was very nice. Only issue I had was the duck. We ordered it for 11 am. But it didn't come out till 11:30 AM. We had to contiously ask for updates on where it was. We weren't very hungry for it anymore. The duck itself was okay. This review is for the Dim Sum lunch items... Dishes we had: Steamed Beef Tripe, great execution of the timing, not over cooked so as the texture becomes rubbery. Steamed Rice Roll with Minced Beef, this item is very hard to make good, and they really did a great job, with the rice roll being the perfect consistency and also the minced beef filling is perfectly cooked. Salted Pork with Preserved Egg Congee, its actually very very good but it is served lukewarm!! Shrimp Dumplings: the wrapping is slightly thick and makes the whole dumpling very doughy, also the shrimp is not seasoned properly and also falls apart when you bite into it. Oh, their tea is great, we ordered Tie Guan Yin and it came in a large pot with very hot water which makes the flavour comes out easier. Also, the pot does not leak all over when you pour!! Love their larger tea cups too! I have to agree with other Yelpers, the new owner is trying very hard to make this a better restaurant then the one it replaces, but I think they still need to look into the Dim Sum quality more closely as I recall the previous restaurant that was here had better dim sum! You looking for dim sum that has a hearty-ass filling? Looking for wrapper skin that has an al dente bite to it? Looking for well-seasoned fillings? TA-DA! You got it here. Yes, as a takeout dish, it isn't pretty, but look past that and see that you're getting a bang for your buck. Legitimately, all of the dumplings that I got for my dim sum feast were stuffed to the gilt with meat and other goodness. The dumplings were so huge. Some of them were the size of half my fists, which are small and whatnot... But still. Overall, the food itself was very well-seasoned, reasonably priced for the dim sum quantity, and just incredibly filling. They nailed nearly all of the common dim sum dishes. All of the dumplings were delicious. The har-gow had whole shrimp in it and great seasoning. The bean curd roll had a yummy sauce base. The chicken feet was tender and flavorful. My fav, the pan-fried radish cake, was soft, crunchy, and full of tiny bits of dried shrimp and Chinese bacon. I ate it and felt like I just left a steakhouse. Imperial Garden is a great choice for dim sum. You can tell because in the morning to early afternoon on the weekends the place is packed to the gills with Chinese families here for dim sum. Their selection of dishes is pretty expansive and they have these snow bbq pork buns which are out of this world and their salted yolk custard buns are better than any other dim sum I've had in the Seattle metro area. We had two kinds of Chang fen which are noodle rolls with filling and a sauce, we had youtiao, which were so light and pillowy, the ha Gow was great as well. The food came out every 5 to ten minutes so it was fresh and hot. Much better than all at once. I think the service could have been better. It wasn't busy and there was plenty of staff but the tea pot could have been bigger and refreshed more often. With this many people service could have been better. This is the first time we have been been back to Imperial Garden in quite a while. The quality is similar to the past, but the price has gone up. I also miss the carts. With this format, you have to guess how much you want to eat, rather than being more spontaneous. Most items are now $6.25 or $7.25. The Shiumai, Ha Gow (Steamed Shrimp Dumplings), steamed dried bean curd, Shrimp Rice Roll and Deep Friend Shrimp Roll were still very good. The Sesame Ball had very little red bean, which was disappointing. If you want soup dumplings, go to Mama Dough. We actually left these on the table. The dough is very thick, no real broth, and the meat was blah. The Garlic Cucumber was very good and the portion size was nice, whereas the Garlic Pea Vine was also very good, but the portion size was small for almost $20. The highlight of the meal for me was the Deep Fried Taro Dumpling with a nice amount of meat and purple taro. It is nice that that don't charge for tea anymore, but then again the prices are all higher than the past. The 4 star is solely given to the roast duck. 1-star removed due to lack of quality in other food options. My girlfriends include both Cantonese and northern Chinese. We ordered dim Sum (durian custard), roast duck, duck soup and entree of sauerkraut beef. After bite of China is permanently closed, we were very sad about losing their roast duck and disappointed at roast duck quality at Barron's or Peony. So we decided to drive all the way down to Kent to give this place a try. The spring wrap quality is actually better than bite of China. And the refill price is very affordable. We liked the roast duck very much, although feeling the portion is a bit small. I do wish the stringed veggies can be much thinner. They are too thick to be wrapped. They could also remove the jam which is very weird. The big disappointment does come from the duck soup and beef entree. The duck soup smell very bad and we could hardly drink from it. The beef too, likely cooked briefly and separately from everything else in the dish and very bland but smells bad. Cantonese girl friend says dimsum is not good either. This is Seattle's only sanctuary for roast duck. I would definitely be back for roast duck. But I wouldn't really consider other entree dish here. read more

Food: - Shrimp Dumplings (har gao): comes in 4 which is nice since most places I see are 3 pieces. The most important part of this dish for me is the wrapping and IGR's is just too thick. - Pork Hash Dumpling (siu mai): yummy - no complaints about this fan-fave. - Shrimp Look-Fun/Steam Roll: I really enjoyed this. The rice roll was soft, almost fall apart, but still retained chewability. - Turnip Cake: the dish was cold which arguably is the most important part for such a rich and doughy dish like this. I was disappointed that the sides weren't brown/crispy and of the temperature (or lack thereof). - Mochi Puff with Meat: I liked this! To echo the other dishes, it would've been a lot better had it been warm. Overall, it was a very mediocre dim sum experience when you think about the other options around Seattle. The wrap is the actual steamed thin wrap instead of those silly buns almost all Chinese restaurants serve in the states for roasted ducks. It is worth the price as well. Other dishes were great also. Heard that this used to be the best dim sum restaurant and cantonese restaurant south of Seattle before Covid. We were craving for authentic Cantonese food and went on Thu for lunch. Except for dim sum shrimp dumpling (really good), all other traditional Cantonese fare like congee (was tasteless), stir fry beef fen (looks good but taste nothing like a authentic dish we expected) and stir fry Chinese broccoli (very salty). This restaurant apparently is becoming a Szechuan restaurant because at least half of the menu are Szechuan dishes (very different cuisine than Cantonese). My family and I decided to go to Imperial Palace for Dim Sum. At first it was nice because we got sitted right away. Ordering was not very impressive as we realized that by waiting such a long time for them to take our order, we had to bring the item we wanted to order. The Water also we had to serve ourselves in paper cups. The price for 1/2 duck really was over price overall all of it was over piced and no service which was trully bad the food was not that great either. Unfortunately, im having a hard time editing, but I also wanted to comment that even what we had ordered in the form of paper, we did not get all our orders. Service was good, not many people at noon, I understand there are new owners ... I found most of my usual go to items lacked flavor. The soup dumplings were a huge disappointment, very doughy tasting and broth was flavorless. The sticky rice didn't have that great flavor I've come to love from here in the past as well as every other place I've been. The Shumai was solid as was the spareribs but that was about it. Ok so I have been here a bunch of times for Dim Sum and dinner. We came on a Sunday and it was pretty busy. This was not the best experience service wise. One of the waiters/host was nice he made a better effort and would acknowledge us of we needed something, but the other lady was not great.. we asked for hot mustard she said I'll be back... which is fine but she was holding a tray with a bunch of hot mustards on it, she could have just given us one. I understand if she was taking it to another table but she had just given the table next to us some and then took thee 3 extras to the kitchen?.. took a pretty long time to get water and even the amount of plates we actually needed bc they did not give us enough to begin with. Anyways the food was pretty good nothing really different except the eggplant which was deep fried and we had not had that before, the portions for the Singapore noodles was quite a bit smaller than a lot of other places we been too, we had to order 2 orders. Here is the best part we had 5 adults and 2 kids (1 toddler and one baby) they charged us $30 for gratuity and then when you went to sign for the bill there was 3 boxes for even more of tip which were $36, $40 and $44, our bill was for food was $186+$30 already.... SNEAKY SNEAKY asking for more when you have already added a $30 tip is not a good look, so just be weary of the added gratuity before you TIP more!!! Bottom line will prob not be back again we only came here as a 2nd option bc triumph valley had a 1 hour wait. But usually go to the ID anyways for Dim sum.
