We ordered $65 dollars worth of food. This is the "complimentary " rice we received from India Palace. When my husband took it back to the restaurant he was told this was fine to eat!. This is supposed to be plain basmati rice. What we received looks like they scraped someone's uneaten food from a plate and gave it to us. Then would not even give us fresh rice. The food has changed drastically since the COVID 19 shutdown. The food used to be thick and creamy but not anymore. I have tried it twice since they reopened and both times disappointed. The chicken tika masala is completely different recipe. Very watery, light orange almost yellow color and has other vegetables in it. It used to be thick, dark orange color and creamy. The saag paneer is also watery no longer creamy. Onion chutney and raitha was even different, not horrible just different. The naan was the only thing that tasted normal. Based on raving reviews on Google and Yelp, and a few recommendations, we recently went to this restaurant. However, to our dismay, they could have done better. Touting to be an authentic North Indian joint, the food was way too sub par. We had ordered quite a few different items. Most of the food served was cold and bland to taste. It was a Saturday evening and they were not busy at all. The service could have been a lot better. The server guaranteed that they serve freshly cooked dishes all the time, yet the meal served did not taste fresh. It seemed like they took it out of the freezer, thawed and warmed it in microwave and served it. Dishes we ordered were as follows: Tikki Chaat Samosa Chaat Onion Pakora Chilli Paneer Veg Chow Mein The 2 Chaats were served hot but completely bland for medium spicy food. The pakora were cold and soft, instead of hot and crispy. The Chilli Paneer was nothing like Chilli Paneer. Rather it was a Paneer Makhani. The veg chow mein was nothing but precooked/frozen Maggi/Ramen instant noodles that were heated in the microwave and served. The food that seemed close to being fresh were garlic naan and rice. Based on this experience, I would NEVER EVER EVER EVER recommend this restaurant to anyone. They have a very LONG way to go earn my business again. read more

I seriously don't understand why this place only has a 3 star. Well, the only reason would be the communication barrier between the server and the customer. But I don't think their amazing restaurant should be ranked only with a 3 stars. It's their second language! Don't expect them to be like a natural born citizen, ha even natural born citizens have grammatical errors all the time. This restaurant works so hard to ensure that their customers leave happy every time! My roommates and I are avid foodies. We seek hidden gems and always find leaders of the different ethnic foods. The four of us agreed that this is our favorite Indian restaurant in Indy. The atmosphere of the restaurant is similar to any other ethnic restaurant, basic decorations with elevator music playing in the background. It's casual and easy to serve any size group. I enjoy the food at the restaurant but I also love taking home to my own comfort. My favorite dish is the butter chicken and I always get the garlic Naan. Best Indian restaurant I've found in Indy! Haven't been to India Palace in about a year and I will not be going back. Absolutely horrible food. We ordered our go-to foods, naan and samosas, and two entrees. The naan was charred on both sides so we couldn't eat it. The samosas were the worst I have ever had. The dough was saturated in grease and the inside of one was empty but for a single pea! The others had minimal contents. Food used to be very good at India Palace. I don't know if ownership has changed or what to attribute it to but it is awful. The first time we wrote it off as, "just a bad day" but a couple of days ago we ordered $100.00 worth of food for the whole family. Once we tasted the food, it was clear that it was AWFUL!!! We've continued dining and ordering take out from here since my previous review. We visited tonight with a friend, three of us total. I'd seen previous reviews about poor service and rude staff, but had truly never experienced it. We were seated and the vibe from the mature, gentleman server was surly from the beginning. The table had been set for two and he, literally, threw a napkin and silverware in from of me. The silverware bounced. I ordered apps for the table and then he walked off without asking about drinks. We continued to be kind to him and he addresses my dining partners as "sir," but was dismissive of me and generally inattentive. I ordered my entree and he said "mild or medium?" The other two at the table were offered "medium or hot." Women can't have it hot? I was scared into ordering medium because I'm not sure what would have happened had I said hot. The food was delicious and fairly priced. Lets get that out of the way. They make pretty darn tasty food. Eventually, he gave up on us altogether and someone else was checking on us here and there. It came time to pay and the amount charged to our credit card was incorrect in our favor. It was $23 instead of $57. My husband pointed this out to him and purposely said, "While you haven't treated us very well, I want to be fair and let you know our bill isn't correct." He said, "Oh, I'm sorry," and whisked the card away to fix it. Nothing else. No thanks for our honesty. No apology for the rude service. Really disappointing experience. India Palace has saved my life several times, both due to its easily accessible location in the International Marketplace just off 65, and the fact that it opens for dinner starting at 5pm. They also have FIFTEEN vegetarian entrees, plus a super delicious vegetable biryani. Once seated you will be treated with water, menus, a basket of papadum, and an assortment of chutneys (mint, onion, and tamarind) which you will happily devour while deciding what to order. What you should get: *GARLIC NAAN (if you don't try this without a very good reason, I will probably unfriend you) *Paneer chilli (delicious cheese cubes in a rich, spicy, tomato-based sauce - my favorite) *Nav ratan korma (veggies cooked with herbs, cashews, raisins - also fantastic) *Aloo mattar (peas and potatoes with a spicy sauce - my potato-loving husband's go-to dish) The staff are very helpful and I've taken their advice on several occasions when I've been overwhelmed by the options - it's good advice. It has been a few years since I had been to India Palace Restaurant and I was surprised to see how amazing it looks under new management. The old cramped decor and dusty buffet lines have been replaced with bright lights and a crisp feel. The same great authentic Indian food is still there with better service and an awesome experience. I'm not the most well versed in different Indian foods (I know what I like and I stick to it) but all of the wait staff was happy to help me decipher what each of the selections on the buffet were available. I have not been to this restaurant for a few years. I did back then enjoy the buffet at lunch. I thought selection was good and the food was very tasty. Two weeks ago I returned after a few years absence. I was very impressed. The restaurant has been re-styled in the buffet was expanded. There were two groups at the restaurant the day I was there but there was not a long wait. The food in the buffet was constantly replenished. The selection of foods would satisfy any appetite. Everyone in my group commented on how good the food was and how nice it was able to choose from such a large selection. I haven't been to the restaurant for a few years but I know after enjoying this buffet I will be attending more frequently. It's a very good value to. I have been waiting and waiting to come and enjoy the buffet here at the India Palace. It's a restaurant that I have been to several times, but it has been a long time ago. I had a friend who would come over and she and I would leave our husbands behind every 3-4 weeks and eat someplace exotic. Our husbands were pretty much meat and potato men. Unfortunately cancer took her away and it's difficult finding another exotic eating buddy. Words can hardly describe how delicious the foods were on the buffet. They brag that they have 40 items on the buffet. I didn't count them, but I believe that there is taking into account all of the things on the salad bar. I asked one of the servers specifically what to do with the 6 relish type items on the salad bar. At first she just stared at me. I asked again asking her if it was meant to go on the salad. Ok, don't laugh! I almost did, it was hard for me. She said, with a very serious face; Do what you want with it! //Gosh, that was helpful.There wasn't one single thing that I didn't like or love. Simply delicious! I drank water as I usually do. I can barely finish a glass of pop if I order one, so why waste the money. Beautiful dining room, delicious food, and the dirty dishes were cleaned off quickly. I believe the lunch buffet today was $10.99. You can't beat that in my book. I will also give them 5 stars for prettiest restroom I've been in. If you have or haven't tried food from India, I highly recommend that you give India Palace a try. Pretty good, especially for vegetarians; most of the meat dishes are chicken and lamb. Spicing is medium-medium hot. Flavors are especially good. Drinks are somewhat limited; no de-chai, as an example. I've eaten from the menu, but was also surprised today at the buffet, which was very good with lots of variety, and also quite flavorful. The downside: the basmati rice was hard, and might break a filling if they don't do something about changing it out. Too bad about that, because the rest of the food in the buffet was superlative today-- hot, flavorful, and just very, very good with good variety. Too bad it the rice was so uneven. They might do better with more desserts, but we were truly full before the desserts were even thought of. The buffet also comes with naan, and we chose garlic naan that's also heavily spiced with cilantro. In all, nothing to apologize for save limited drink selection and occasionally hard buffet rice. This is the best Indian food I have ever had. The decor was really authentic, and the new management said they spend a lot of time getting the decor and the banquet hall is awesome! We were there on a Monday, and they had fantastic over-the-top decor. I love that everything was a family or made from scratch recipe. They had such a variety and a very extensive menu. We ordered from here a couple of months ago and it was INCREDIBLE, so we just keep coming back! Their chicken tikka masala is easily one of my top 10 favorite dishes of all time, with the pakoras and samosas making at least top 20. Even the sauces they bring out are amazing--the tamarind and mint cilantro chutneys are out of this world. The only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is that on our most recent trip, the waitress was very rude, got my husband's order wrong and argued with him about it for a solid 5 minutes, but ultimately the manager came out and was very nice and fixed it without charging us. The buffet at India Palace is the largest I've ever seen, and it's packed with fine renditions of all my favorites. Love their vegetable lentil soup - what a subtle, satisfying dish! I always get the chicken tikka masala (chicken in a distinctive tomato sauce, nav rattan korma (veggies plus cashews and raisins), and their spinach dish, along with whatever else strikes my fancy. It doesn't look like much from the outside, and it's not in a great place of town, but you should try it!! M thru F, they have a lunch buffet, which was quite tasty. India Palace is under new management and was completely renovated. It is truly gorgeous and stunning with gold tiles, luxurious pink chairs, and chandeliers. You truly feel like you're in a palace! The taste of the food and the service have also both improved from previously. Everything was delicious! I've done both the buffet and dinner. Naan bread is now given to you fresh at the buffet instead of sitting there. It's nice that they have buffets on weekends as well. They automatically give you rice naan with any entree you order. Service was very attentive. The event center looks really special and I bet it is a lot of fun! This will definitely be one of my go-to places when going out to eat from now on. read more

Breaks my heart to make this review because my family has been coming here since the early 2000's but they just never bounced back after Covid. I ordered a couple times during lock down and 4-5 times since (including buffet) and it is just not good. I used to recommend this restaurant to everyone and I've returned items or thrown out the last 3 times I ordered from here. Many of the dishes weren't even anywhere near what they are supposed to be. I went in once and looked at the buffet before ordering and walked out. I kept hoping one day they'd be back to the level they were, but I've lost that hope. They also used to be so friendly. They have been extremely rude to me almost every time I've ordered over the past 3 years. Including one man almost yelling at me when I forced a refund for something that was unrecognizable as what I ordered. It's to the point now that I dont think I'd go back even if they returned to their previous level. Partially because their decline led me across the street to a place that is exceptional almost every time and still really good on a rare off day. Ordered online for pickup. Arrived at the estimated pickup time. Only 2 tables seated, both were finished eating. At least 4 tables had dirty settings left on them. I waited in the front section for 40 minutes past pickup time and once I received my food, all most all of it was room temperature. The vegetable pakora looked liked the crumbs left in the bottom of the buffet tin. Been coming here since the 90's and looks like we are done.
