This place is da bomb. Seriously though, I get down to Indian food. I've tried a lot of places around Indy and this is definitely my favorite. The only bummer is I really don't find myself in the Georgetown area that often (since we moved to Plainfield) but it is STILL worth the special trip when I need curry in a hurry (ha)! The lunch buffet is definitely where the value is at (at a $7.99 cost). They consistently have over 25 dishes available that are always hot, fresh and delicious. Holy cow, I dream about that Paneer Tikka Masala poured over rice. Plus the Palak Paneer (pureed spinach thing) is always a favorite. Naan is hot, puffy and overabundant. Also, service has always been polite and efficient. If you like Indian food, check this place out! Also, for a bonus round, check out the grocery store next door. I can't conceptualize how in the sh*t they make so many varying dishes that may lead to choice fatigue, yes; yet, the pantheon of palette-pleasing choices creates an opportunity for everyone to sizzle their own core tandoori (that's your stomach by the way in yelp-speak). And, how exactly they have every dish under the big red one, matters not. What matters is that I'm an American and I have options, dammit. Now... I didn't get to slowly cruise the buffet like a good American should... but we rode those randy coattails of choice for a Sunday dinner takeout. *Tandoori Chicken (I can't speak for the taste as I've hung up my meat boots). Appearance: rich & served with onions, peppers and lemon. 5 baseball sized pieces -- one on the bone. *Vegetable Samosas served with mint chutney, and tomato chutney. (The spices involved and chickpea to potato ratio makes this triangle of joy more complex than other samosas). *Chana Masala: an Indian staple that is a foundation of comparing restaurant to restaurant. This was medium spiced and super dense and was a perfect compliment to the extra spicy dish. *That extra spicy dish: "Punjabi Bhaji Vegetable fritters, shredded onions, and bell peppers cooked in tomato and butter sauce." Yes, super buttery -- however ordering it at the absolute spiciest level ("extra spicy") makes it very doable. *Dal Makhani: "Lentils flavored with freshly ground spices and sautéed in cream." It's a bowl of mehhhhhhhhhhhh. This is my first stop on the tour of Indian in Indianapolis (yeah, I know, it's taken a while), so I don't have anything to compare it to in this city. As I've had some serious Indian in San Francisco... it's just about par and par in Punjabi means "better than the rest of you!" I will be back for the buffet. It's been too long since I've been here. Had the lunch buffet. I got there just after it opened, and all the food on the buffet was extremely fresh. Impeccable everything. The curries seemed a bit spicey, as in authentic and not toned down for the North American palate. Either that or I've turned into a spice wimp. (Hint: use rice to "dilute" a curry if it's too spicey.) They have both vegetarian dishes and meat dishes. The vegetable fried rice is unlike the veg fried rice you get at Chinese restaurants. I thought the rice was elegant. It served as a good base to soak up the sauce of the curries. The various chicken dishes are classics, chicken curry, chicken tikka masala, tandoori chicken, and another roasted-type chicken which I think was labeled as BBQ Chicken. There was also a goat curry, but I didn't try it this time. An interesting dish was "Chicken Manchoorian", which tasted great, and was an Indian take on a Chinese preparation. The naan was perfect, and seemed made in house. The fruit on the dessert table, white grapes, red grapes and cantelope, was very fresh. I loved the mango pudding. There was also gulab jamun, but I didn't try it. There was a delicious item called vegetable samosa chaat, consisting of a fresh salsa, and veggie samosas. The construction of the samosas was unique, almost like a mini veggie-burger, which I thought was excellent. Ambience and cleanliness (including the men's room) continues to be high-end. Ceramic plates, stainless steel utensils, quality paper napkins for lunch. Servers are well-dressed in uniforms, and very professional. Lunch price was $7.99 plus drink, plus tax, plus tip. Well worth it. Lunch clientele includes South Asians, so I assume the food is authentic. Overall, they continue to be a classy joint. Very worty of impressing the boss/wife/gf/inlaws. If you are looking for a 100% vegetarian Indian restaurant, that would be "Passage to India" in the same building, but a few doors down, where you enter into the "Om India Plaza" grocery store. Breaks my heart to make this review because my family has been coming here since the early 2000's but they just never bounced back after Covid. I ordered a couple times during lock down and 4-5 times since (including buffet) and it is just not good. I used to recommend this restaurant to everyone and I've returned items or thrown out the last 3 times I ordered from here. Many of the dishes weren't even anywhere near what they are supposed to be. I went in once and looked at the buffet before ordering and walked out. I kept hoping one day they'd be back to the level they were, but I've lost that hope. They also used to be so friendly. They have been extremely rude to me almost every time I've ordered over the past 3 years. Including one man almost yelling at me when I forced a refund for something that was unrecognizable as what I ordered. It's to the point now that I dont think I'd go back even if they returned to their previous level. Partially because their decline led me across the street to a place that is exceptional almost every time and still really good on a rare off day. Do you want variety? Then COME HERE! The buffet, which is available every day at lunch, as well as lunch and dinner on weekends. I think they also do a buffet on Friday evenings which is awesome. I can't go any further without saying the garlic naan is awesome. I eat myself into delirium and still want more. The buffet itself has 25 items to chose from (ranging from the chutneys/salad/cold items to main dishes) I love the saag, chicken tikka masala ... pretty much everything. They do have goat curry which tastes good but watch out - can get some gristle sometimes. The vegetable samosas are always good too! I love that they have a variety of dessert options - its something I have yet to see anywhere else. Gajar Halwa (shredded carrots, ghee, milk, sugar, cashews, cardamom) is my happy place. I'd never seen this dessert before coming to India Palace. I love it!! Tip: add a bit of ice cream on top and its even better :) If thats not up your alley then the Gulab jamun (cheese solids made into a dough and deep fried) and ice cream will likely do the trick. I used to love this place. A year ago it was my favorite and I would drive thirty minutes to and from the place just for carry out a couple times a month! About five - six months ago this changed. The chicken Tikka Masala that I had come to love was barely edible. For $20 for my meal, you would think that the chicken would be good and tender. Instead it was fatty and grisly... In fact the last three times I have gone back, hoping that the last time was a fluke, it was the same poor quality chicken. Also the service is horrid here. Ok. So my husband and I have been spending about $60 a week here. They make really good chicken with fried rice. We get double the chicken and garlic naan. The food is excellent but the service took it down to 1 star. Our last order was horrible. Chicken wasn't done or seasoned like Norma and it definitely wasn't double the meat. Having been there every week for 3 weeks, we called to get our order remade or refund. They told us to bring the food back for a refund. We did. But when we arrived they reversed course and said they would not remake or give a refund bc the package had been opened. Well duh, how would we know it hadn't been made properly without opening it; but literally all the food outside one bite was in the box? The girl at the front lied and said she didn't tell us to bring the food back. After arguing with the manager, he finally agreed to the refund and we told him we wouldn't be returning due to the service. And we haven't. Service is everything. read more

Could have easily given this place four stars , as the cuisine is very well prepared and almost always delicious , however, this is my third visit here and the young lady attending the tables today is unnecessarily rude and is completely ruining my families experience. The past two times we've come the two gentlemen servers we're super nice , they explained the items to us when we had questions and did not seem at all upset by our presence as this young lady did . I love, love, LOVE India Palace!!! It's by far the best Indian restaurant I've ever been too. I've gone there several times over the past several years for dine-in, carry-out, and the buffet. And whenever I go, there are always several Indian people also eating there. I think this is a sign that the food is authentic. First of all, the lunch buffet is very impressive. Not only is everything delicious, the selection is HUGE - 2 or 3 times bigger than other Indian buffets I've been too. It includes some of their best dishes, in my opinion. Also of note, I find the buffet to be very mildly spicy, which is great for those of us who can't take too much spiciness. I like just being able to savor the flavors. The menu also has a huge array of dishes. I almost always get my favorite - the lamb or vegetable korma, and I LOVE the mango milkshakes! I've also had both the vegetarian and non-vegetarian samplers, which are give you about 10 excellent dishes and are a great deal. I think prices overall are very reasonable. The atmosphere is very elegant, comfortable and soothing. The waitstaff is friendly - actually, the service is almost too good. Someone will come by to fill your water glass - even if you've only taken a sip - every 2 minutes. It gets a bit invasive. But I'd rather have overly-attentive waiters than inattentive ones. Ok, I admit it - Indian is low on my ethnic food totem pole. Not completely at the bottom, that space is reserved for Ethiopian (too mushy for me - like eating a meal of different flavored baby food) but it's down there. HOWEVER, there are certain Indian dishes that I really really enjoy and India Palace does them the best. The best Indian food in Indianapolis. We had the tandoori sample platter. The chicken was perfect and the lamb had the best spice flavor I've had. We also got a shrimp dish with peppers and onions. OMG!!!! I would've never expected to see this place on the list or hear of this place ever again! So it just happens one night, out of the blue my cousin wanted to eat Indian food and this place just happens to be across the street. I refused to go at first because having catched the whiff of Indian food was such a turn off for me. Took some convincing, but I gave in. (Noted: This was my FIRST and only time I have ever tried Indian food. Not to be narrow minded nad what not, I'm sure some of you out there love their cusine. It's just after this experience, for me.... totally scarred me for life and I have never ate Indian cusine ever again). Anyhow, walking through the door... the smell of heavy curry permeated the air and caused me the nauseous feeling of wanting to throw up. The smell is sooooo unlike other asian curry, that I couldn't help but try to only breath through my nose. So we ordered beef curry, lamb curry, and chicken curry..... now, the flatbread they gave us as the housebread was pretty awesome. So I figured the entrees come out and it owuld be decent..... only.... no utensils were given. We had to dig our food with our bare hands. Encrusting our nails with this foul tasting curry, and may I note that my chicken was bleeding when I ripped it apart? So my cousin told me to try his beef curry, that he has yet to dig into.... using me as an experiment, I took one bite.. and I'm spewing it back into a napkin. That was ENOUGH, as we paid our bill and left our barely touched entrees and ran out the door for some frsh air. Thus, I can tell you.... I haven't since tried Indian curry since. First of all, we walked in knowing what we wanted to order based on the menu online. However, once we got in, we noticed their in-store menu was different. I asked if they served an appetizer we were interested in. He stared at me like I had two heads and said it was not on the menu. I said I had seen it online and asked when the menu was changed, and said they should update it when they get a chance. The guy was very rude, and said if you look at this menu it is obvious the menu was changed which didnt answer my question at all. We ordered chicken curry, lamb saag, and some naan. I asked if they served mango lassi, since that is common at a lot of indian places. He said they have mango milkshakes. I asked what the difference was and he just said well its a milkshake. I asked if it was made with ice cream or what and he laughed and said no, then turned on his heel and disappeared in the kitchen with our order. When we got the order the "milkshake" appeared to be mango juice mixed with milk and watered down. It was purely liquid with no thickness, and was unpleasant to drink. The curry was watery and had a bland lavor, though the meat and vegetables were cooked through. There was no onion chutney like the menu claimed, unless it was pre-mixed in. The lamb saag had a better flavor, though the lamb was oddly rubbery. It was cold on the inside as if it had been frozen and then re-heated. The naan was not very good either. It also seemed microwaved. It was rubbery and tough. I probably will not be back. read more

Stopped for the lunch buffet after a hike at Eagle Creek. It was okay, but not fantastic. I would eat here again if in the area. Mushroom masala, Mattar paneer - both good veg dishes. I always like pakora (fried veggies) with tamarind chutney. The chutney was pretty thin and watery. Lentil soup - pretty thin and watery, no visible lentils. Goat curry was tasty. Chicken Masala was good. Naan - It's got to be fresh made. The naan is sitting on the steam table and it's just not great. I know it's a buffet but I would advise serving naan to order. When I'm seated ask if I want naan, yes, of course. Bring out some naan while I get some food. Masala Chai was pretty flat - meh. They guy asked if I wanted a refill. I said no thanks and got more anyway. Yipee! Since I had a full cup of tea I got some a few gulab jamun to finish the meal. read more

I hate over eating and then having to go back to work, but in normal indian style, this food is full of flavor and is so good that two plates with a broad selection on each will fulfill your palette very well. The overall flavor was better than most. (more authentic) I do agree with another that the servers are not attentive. I mean, not at all. We had to flag for water refills twice and one of those times he forgot. We also had to ask for our check and waited a bit. I really would have rated 3.5 stars because of the service. India Palace is my favorite Indian food of all time. Their paneer masala is some of the best I've ever had. The nav ratan shashi korma is also quite tasty! Also, don't miss a perfect vegetable pakora with delightfully spicy onion chutney. They have a really great lunch buffet with several good vegetarian choices. This is a great place to come and try Indian food for the first time. During Dinner hours, there's a small basket of papadam on the table to start things off. These are always perfectly cooked without being greasy. Dinner is nice with very generous portions. We usually get one entree per person, and have lunch the next day as well. read more

Our experience was you weren't getting the soft drink you ordered, you aren't going to be spoken to, they are somewhat distant, cold, and seem barely able to tolerate your presence. Now if you're of Asian origin, they are friendly, greet you, please and thank you, friendly face, and give you a parting greeting. Which is typical treatment to anyone in any Indian restaurant. Maybe they should put a sign up for the type of customers they would like to see frequent their place. Looking for authentic Indian food? This is the place! I'm a sucker for ethnic restaurants and wasn't disappointed with the buffet-style array of options. My boss told me he used to sit back to back with other people and felt like a "bull in a china shop." But not anymore. This place is sad man. Real sad...I thought I'd give it a chance and taste about everything. The NAN, rubbery! The masala had too much tomato, the chutneys had to come out of a bottle pre made and horrible. The goat curry was too greasy. The most surprising part wasn't the food though. The place was gross!! This was the first time I had been back to India Palace in a few years. I must say I was extremely disappointed. I was not give the complimentary appetizers to begin, nor was I greeted in a friendly or timely manner. The restaurant was not crowded at all and it took nearly an hour to prepare my food. After a while, I decided to just cancel the order. They assured me it was coming out and I shared that I had yo go but would take carry out instead. When I got home, the brown bag was soaked because they did not secure the top on my curry and it spilled out. I am also pretty sure that it wasn't curry but some type of soup instead. Let me start with the positive: this place has a delicious buffet. A nice variety is offered and it is piping hot. Now the not so great: I've eaten here 3 times and each time getting water, utensils and the check take an exorbitant amount of time. It doesn't seem like they are short staffed, but it does seem that the staff is rather unconcerned about providing speedy service. Overall,good place to go. My other half and I have been on several dates there. We had dinner and the lunch buffet. The lunch buffet is inexpensive and tasty. If you are worried about spice concerning the buffet don't be as it is mild. They have a good variety of food in their buffet. I would recommend their paneer and chicken curry. Also don't forget the dessert, keer. To drink, the mango Lassi is always a treat. This is a great place for groups or couples/families. The service in my experience is descent and attentive. I have never been for the buffet, only for weekend dinner. Our water glasses ended up completely empty 3 times, once for 5 minutes. Our appetizer, aloo tikki (potato cakes) came out almost instantly but we then waited over 30 minutes for our food: lamb vindaloo (lamb with potatoes in spicy sauce) and saag paneer (spicy creamed spinach with cubes of fresh cheese). The vindaloo and saag were great tasting though, as were the aloo tikki! Spice level was right on, lamb was tender. Our sad bread wasn't up to par though. We ordered the naan stuffed with cheese. I've had this at other places, and the cheese is soft. Our bread arrived lukewarm at best, and the texture of the cheese was like shreds of plastic. It was disappointing. I think the cheese in my saag wasn't super fresh either...it was harder and didn't absorb much of the flavor from the sauce, but the dish was still good. The chutneys here are fantastic. The best comparison I can make is having Heinz ketchup for the first time when all you've had prior to that is the generic packets that say "fancy ketchup" and are generally only found in elementary school cafeterias. India Palace chutney trio=Heinz ketchup. Better texture, fresher taste, not watery or separated. The colors were real, from the spices and herbs, not from food coloring. It's worth getting an appetizer just so you have something besides pappadam to put the chutney on! Price-wise, most of the vegetarian items are $10. Most of the chicken items are $12, lamb and seafood $12, and the big combos are up to $16. We plan on trying the buffet in the future, and I'll update then. This is my go to Indian food spot. It is great food, decent price and a clean and casual atmosphere. Only recently have I had a chance to try the lunch buffet and Ill tell you it great, especially for beginners of Indian food. Recently went with a co-worker for the lunch buffett and I was amazed with the selection they offered for lunch.
