Buffet is served to you to prevent contamination. Which I appreciated. It is all fresh, hot, & tasty. I absolutely love saag paneer. That's a must! It did not disappoint at all. The cheese was delicious, & the spinach was cooked nicely, not slimy. If served I always ask the server to pick something they enjoy for me to try. (I've normally had it, but I enjoy trying things & sometimes ‍ who knows, it may be brand new to you.) She gave me delicious butter chicken. It was rich, hot & buttery. (Duh!) The chicken was nicely cooked. I am obsessed with samosas! I had two. I'm not ashamed of that, or that I ordered some to go home & have over the weekend. (And yes! They were tasty reheated in my little toaster oven.) They are so yummy. The filling is cooked to perfection. Spiced wonderfully, & fried to perfection. I could eat one a day. Yum! I love each of the condiments, dips sauces, or chutneys - whatever you call them - the spiceness of the mint is always a tip to the scenses. I like the mango the most. I love the smoothness of the pureed mango. Lastly, the yogurt one is a nice cool down of you've had to much spice. I ordered a mango lassi. It was thick, rich, cold and so delicious. They are heavy on the yogurt. So, if you're lactose intolerant, you may wanna skip it. I believe the only drawback for me was the $15 price for a buffet & one mango lassi. Worth it? For a dinner price, yeah. I only eat one plate. So, I should order from the menu. I will next time. Stating that, before I was stationed overseas, my daughter & I ate here often. This was our second visit to this restaurant, but the last time was about 5 years ago (we don't visit this part of town often). Upon arrival (around 11:15 on a Tuesday morning) we were quickly seated. We took a look at the options on the buffet (wife was specifically craving saag paneer) and found it to be acceptable. Everything was delicious. Buffet included a wide range of delicious dishes. All of the dishes were just slightly spiced (but that's what we'd expect on a buffet). I tried at least a bite of almost every dish. I couldn't complain about any of it. The restaurant was very clean and we were attended to regularly for water refills. The staff was extremely kind. Buffet was 14.99 per person and we drank water; so with tax plus a generous tip, total bill was right at $40. read more

We walked in & the aroma of Indian spices filled the air. Curry, coriander, turmeric...oh my.... I have been coming here for years. It's hard to believe I have never written a review. Every visit, every server & every meal here has been great! The servers are always polite. You can order from the menu but we eat at the buffet. I'm not a fan of buffets for a few reasons but at India Palace, I make an exception. This buffet doesn't have a bunch of random, stale food under heat lamps. There are 16 dishes. Each one is kept fresh. Tonight, I even noticed that before the cook put the fresh batch of Naan bread out that he poured hot water under the grate. Good idea! Someone is constantly checking the food to make sure the food is fresh & hot. When we walked up there were stacks of clean plates. Next to them was a sign w a huge bottle of hand sanitizer that asked us to please use it first. I really appreciated this. I would have appreciated this being done LONG BEFORE COVID. As I walked around the buffet I was only looking for the 4 specific items I love to eat... Saag Paneer (homemade cubed cheese in spinach), Naan bread, Chicken Tikka Masala (theirs is TENDER & each bite is bursting with flavor) & my absolute FAVORITE Indian dish ever...Mushroom Mattar Masala! (I'm told it's actually a side dish but idc what it is. It's amazing!) It isn't always on the buffet so I was really hoping it would be tonight. When I saw it, if my eyes could've actually lit up they would have lit up the room...lol I have been to many Indian restaurants & I have never found one that makes this dish. I have yet to figure out why when it is so delicious. I can rarely make more than one trip to a buffet. That's another reason I'm not a fan of buffets but I did manage to go back for a little more Mushroom Mattar Masala. I ended my meal w a little Rice Khir. I'd describe it as a soupy kind of rice pudding. It's very good. Not too sweet but yet sweet enough to make you feel like you ended dinner w a yummy dessert. Last but definitely not least, our server was Elizabeth. She took great care of us. Our glasses were never empty. She even left a small carafe of water for us but we never even touched it bc she was so on top of keeping our drinks full. She was polite & removed our dirty dishes immediately. Elizabeth was friendly & before we even sat down she made sure our table was completely sanitized. So, though this is my first review for this wonderful restaurant, I have been bringing friends & family here for at least 12-13 years. I actually had to take a break from coming here for awhile after my dad passed away bc we'd meet here for lunch quite often & it was just too hard to come back. Even today as we drove up, I started to tear up. I told myself to pull it together. I'm glad I brought my dad here. I'm happy that I introduced him to tasty Indian food that he ended up loving too! Normal non-spicy items on buffet. Yummy Food taste is there; however, You might get ur drink order before you finish your first plate if you are lucky but dont expect a refill. Also dont think you will have a relaxing time to eat and digest because they do keep an eye on how long youve been there/how many plates you got. Tables are spaced apart, one person at a time goes through the buffet line and desserts are pre-portioned. They are also still doing buffet to-go and a staff member will pack your box for you. Five years later India Palace is still my favorite Indian restaurant in San Antonio. I've been coming here consistently throughout the years while visiting family in SA. Finally I moved to SA for half the year, and after being fully vaccinated, I knew I wanted to revisit my favorite Indian buffet. Most of them haven't been the most comfortable places but the food hasn't been bad, while this place is vastly more comfortable inside and the food is even better; not to mention the portion sizes are enormous! I was stuffed and had to leave some of my chicken biryani (only because I had an appointment and couldn't take it with me or I definitely would've had it for dinner as well). The lunch buffet is great and not expensive AND you can still order off the menu during the buffet which is not always possible. It was a huge piece of bread. The chicken was delicious and so tender. The rice had great flavor as well. The sauce was on the sweeter side and no real spice. My husband and I live in Austin, but we were introduced to this place by a friend when we were going to college in SA, and we love visiting everytime we're in town. We love coming for the buffet. The buffet isn't super big, but they have a solid variety. The food is always super tasty. Lots of vegetarian options, with only a few meat options. It's been awhile since we found an Indian restaurant we liked and what's even better is that it was a buffet. We were very cautious about it but they follow covid guidelines and serve you the food instead of grabbing it on your own. They do put a small amount but simply ask for a little more and they kindly add it to your plate. They have a variety of choices and we made sure to go back for more. I asked ahead of time if it was okay for us to bring a cake and they said it was fine. I know some are still weary of eating out. I moved to San Antonio in 1986 and some coworkers brought me here. Every single dish on the buffet was perfectly delicious, rich, spicy, magical... and far better than the Dallas restaurants I knew. I watched as staff continuously cleaned and refreshed the buffet station. The naan was in itself amazing, hot, toasty, and fresh out of their clay oven. The staff and management were in constant action, glasses refilled, plates cleared, and so so nice! I occasionally tried other Indian restaurants in San Antonio, but they never compared to India Palace. The gentleman owner was usually present and I believe he still owns and operates this great place. So, after 38 years, India Palace never ever disappoints! The sauce had the perfect amount of spice and a good portion of chicken as well partnered with the fluffy biryani. I owe India Palace a debt of gratitude for introducing me to Indian cuisine many years ago. I can't remember what piqued my interest or how I convinced my mom to take me there, but I'm glad my first experience was positive. Had it been anything less than stellar, I might not have developed a taste for more adventurous ethnic cuisine. Many Indian buffets (some great, some not so great) have come and gone, but India Palace has been churning out the same consistently delicious North Indian staples for at least twenty years. Highlights include an interpretation of saag paneer much creamier and more complex than what I've found at other buffets, a rich, comforting chicken tikka masala, and arguably the best tandoori chicken in the city. The fattier dark thigh meat in particular takes on a pronounced smokey mesquite flavor, but even the breast meat is delicious and moist, at least when it's fresh out of the tandoor. Alas, on several recent visits, the chicken was a tad try, presumably a result of sitting out for too long. Though you might be tempted to delve headfirst into the chicken, I recommend waiting until the kitchen replenishes the tray and then seizing the moment. The staff are friendly and quick to offer refills, but I wish they would clear used plates more frequently. I typically dine alone, so I have sufficient table real estate for numerous dishes, but parties of two or more might not be as fortunate. Despite my fondness for India Palace, I might have to give a slight edge to its competitor, Bombay Hall, a few blocks down the street. The staff at Bombay Hall are more personable, the naan is served fresh at every table, and the dessert offerings (gulab jamun and rice pudding, in particular) are more flavorful.
