We came here for the lunch buffet with coworkers and friends. I had been to India House before so, I had a standard to look forward to here in Santa Fe. I was very disappointed with my choice. First and foremost the service was lacking. I had asked for extra bread and it had never come. The restaurant was not at all busy so, I really can't come up with a reason why they couldn't bring one extra piece of bread. The items in the buffet were very bland in Indian standards, the saag paneer was bleh when it was supposed to be aromatic and blended together to make up perfection. The Tandoori chicken was also very meh because there was no sauce on it at all. I probably won't be coming here again for the lunch buffet not worth the location. read more

I visited this place for a quick lunch. In general, i am apprehensive about buffets, but was hoping to get something a la carte for lunch since generally those are not catered to a general bland version of Indian cuisine. I was informed that my only option was the buffet which for its $12.95 price had some extremely cream heavy butter chicken with absolutely no smokey flavor from the tandoor. Even the customary blend of the small charcoal piece that is often blended with butter in a vat to give that typical butter chicken flavor at a minimum was missing. The Saag Paneer was decent, but seemed to miss the traditional seasoning and instead had a slant towards beings sweet. The staff were relatively courteous but there was not a high level of attentiveness. The other patrons seemed to be primarily folks who came there for ability to read a book and eat some rice with a bit of chicken without caring too much about the indulgence of the food. Indian food is meant to invoke the senses and if cooked well would not allow reading a book to let its sensory overload be dominated. I have definitely had much better and for serious Indian food lovers, i believe this is not a place for lunch. read more

This review is based on the lunch buffet which is the best of the three Indian buffets available in Santa Fe at this time. First, I must comment on the tandoori chicken. I don't like tandoori chicken. Not anywhere I go, but I still try a piece at every buffet I indulge in. This tandoori is actually quite good! Moist meat and a subtle smokiness that is uncommon in this dish at other restaurants I've tried over the years. There are not too many dishes to choose from, but they're all very good. Went for the lunch buffet today after three days of cheese enchiladas as a vegetarian in santa fe (not something i would ever recommend). Sat inside/outside on a porch covered with tapestries that was very remniscent of bali or Malaysia. The buffet wasn't huge, maybe 10 items in total, but all were fresh and carefully prepared and well balanced for seasoning level. I was able to fill two plates heaping with vegetable korma, aloo gobi, saag paneer, daal, and pakora and every dish was delicious. You have the choice of naan or garlic naan brought fresh to the table and the staff is charming and kind. So happy i just might reconsider visiting santa fe again! read more

I had the lunch buffet here. Each of the items were exceedingly fresh, distinctly and subtly spiced and a pleasure to the tongue. Sauces were prepared with finely ground spices and a minimum amount of butter or oil to make them smooth, but not greasy (like other I've experienced in other places). Great dishes at the buffet the day I ate here: Chicken Kofta (meatballs with a sauce) Tandoori Chicken Spinach with Chick Peas (creamy texture, but not overwhelmed by cream) Potato with Fresh string Beans and a mango custard with fruit The breads were produced expertly. The garlic naan came out properly done the garlic slightly roasted and to infuse the bread with the proper flavor. That is expertise. Other places where I ordered this produced a naan with burned, bitter garlic. Not this place. The staff was entirely helpful, affable and accommodating. They even prepared a bread for me that was not strictly on the menu: a tandoori paratha (layered buttered whole wheat flour bread). The quality of the preparation was from my experience equal to places I remember and loved in New York and London. I wish I could take the restaurant home with me. :-) read more

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!!! I cannot believe this place. We called ahead twice and one time they hung up on us. When we showed up to the restaurant they told us that they didn't have any accommodation when clearly they had empty tables and an even emptier parking lot. They didn't even tell us on the phone they didn't have any room until we reached. We were traveling with little kids from over an hour away in the rain and cold. I seriously cannot believe how inhumane, inconsiderate, and rude the service at this place was. They clearly had empty tables and rooms. So disappointed after meeting so many nice people all over New Mexico, we had such a terrible experience. I have NEVER had such a NEGATIVE EXPERIENCE in my LIFE!!! We arrived at this place very hopeful, only to be met by a server who was very unaccommodating and curt. We asked if there was a choice of plain steamed rice (not an unusual request at an Indian place) to go with an entree we chose. They said they did not. Unusual, but we then sought a few more minutes to rethink our order. This was at 8.50 pm for a place which claimed to close at 10 pm. The server said that we could order now or the kitchen closes. We chose to leave the place. In a city which has otherwise been very accommodating, we were thrown back by the demeanor of the place. India palace, my advice - if you have constraints (understandable, establishments often do), be nicer when you talk your patrons through them. And communicate your hours clearly. It's unfair to expect people to drive to your place to a closed kitchen. Change your hours on Google and Yelp. I was craving Indian food tonight and you really made me very unhappy. My husband and I often planned the 1 1/2 hour drive from Taos to Santa Fe just to be in time for the lunch buffet. Located right off the Santa Fe Plaza, just a stones throw away from the amazing Indian ( well, Native American) jewelry market is one of the delights of the southwest. The food is great, standard northern Indian cuisine with it's powerful aromatic spices and creamy curries. The tikka masala was a 2 year obsession in our family, it's especially creamy and sweet. Tandori chicken is also great. If you ever find yourself in Santa Fe stop by. If not, get some uncle ben's special basmati Indian rice, it's the recipe of the owner if IP. read more

I did not travel to Santa Fe thinking I would eat at an Indian restaurant. It so happened that I ended up being there and I kept going back. Their food was top notch. I talked to the owner and it was clear that they don't take any shortcuts to make food. They shop daily for fresh vegetables at the local market and this shows in their food. I loved their yellow daal, daal makhani, vegetable khorma and not to mention their tawa roti and naans. If I ever visit Santa Fe again, I'll be sure to visit this place along with some other great local food this city has to offer. Green and red hatch chillies - so good. read more

First visited India Palace a year ago, and I have been dreaming of a return visit to Santa Fe just so we could go back. Unquestionably, the finest India food I have had anywhere, and even though I love Southwestern/Mexican food, I feel that India Palace is the best restaurant in Santa Fe. A group of six enjoyed Lamb Rogan Josh, Lamb Saagwala, Lamb Biryani, Lamb Tiki Kebab, all delicious, tasty, mild to medium as far as spice. Two of us had Lamb Madras and Chicken Madras, very tasty and HOT- yummy! Side dishes included rice, Saag Paneer, a creamy spinach dish, and Navrattan Korma- mild mixed veggies. Mango custard for dessert topped off an amazing meal! The price was reasonable and the portions were plentiful. The service could not have been better! Very helpful, informative, and attentive! If you like Indian food and are in the Santa Fe area, do yourself a favor and go to India Palace. read more

Don't go here. It's not worth the terrible service. While the attitude and actions of one person don't represent everyone who works there...we just couldn't bear the rudeness. We wanted some yummy Indian food, and quickly walked out when we realized that we would be overcharged and completely rushed (despite having over an hour left before closing in a mostly empty restaurant). I go to India Palace at least once every 4 months and come everyday for dinner or lunch when my family visits my cousin. I never have had a bad experience with the food or staff. Even the owner-Nari, recognizes us every time I come for dinner. Never have I received such a warm welcome and excellent service. Most of the staff speak English as a second language and are a little quiet but always ready to answer any questions and always make sure that my glass is full whether it be wine or water. The food is awesome, and this comes from an Indian kid who grew up with it, whether you want it spicy or not. P.S. The garlic naans are to die for! and because they are cut into fourths you take the right amount and don't feel guilty or overstuffed. read more

Best. Food. Ever. Santa Fe is definitely a foodie's town. There are so many great choices! For the past decade, this restaurant has remained at the top of my list. I absolutely love this place. Just thinking of the food truly makes my mouth water. Every time I eat there, I do have a problem: I can't stop eating because it is so good. Seriously, I lose all self-control, and I wind up waddling out to my car and feeling overly full and ashamed the rest of the evening. Besides the delicious food, the service is fantastic! The waiters dish out the food onto your plate with this cool utensil holding trick. They really take pride in their service, which isn't always the case here in Santa Fe. My preference is to order off the menu at night rather than go to the lunch time buffet, though. read more

I've tried most all the Indian restaurants in Santa Fe. India Palace is by far the best I've eaten. Excellent samosas with a flavorful filling of vegetables and the sauces were right on. Lamb Vindaloo couldn't have been better. I asked for HOT and they delivered. I loved it; savory and spicy. They were out of Rasmalai. So, I'll be back. Eager to try more of their entrees. read more

DO NOT EAT HERE....this used to be a great place to eat...good food, polite servers and the owner was there in a gracious manner. I think it sold to another person a couple of years ago. Now the food is not the same we got sick and if you read down you will see others who also got sick. Very RUDE staff and owner the patio very unpleasant. The fountain was boarded up and dirty. We live in Santa Fe but this is the first time we had visited the India Palace. We missed good Indian cuisine as we have visited London many times and lived in Germany for 30+ years. So here is our unbiased opinion: The food tasted okay but all of the dishes were too spicy! By that I mean, we ordered "medium" spice. We could have ordered "hot" but weren't sure if it would be too hot. Actually the medium spice was so hot that all five of us ended up taking home at least half of our meal so we at least can dilute the heat when we have leftovers. That brings me to the major complaints we had: The service was deplorable. Only one waiter was on duty and we were served our meal after waiting for 1 hour and 15 minutes from arrival time. He was also very disinterested in helping us and when we asked which vegetables were in one dish he said he didn't know and did not offer to find out. Not only was the service atrocious but the menu clearly stated that groups of 5 or more would be charged a 25% gratuity! And they did! I have never been to a restaurant that automatically added a gratuity for less than 6 persons. The 25% gratuity did not sit well with us as most restaurants that charge a gratuity only charge 18%. But we stayed anyway. We will not return and won't recommend this establishment to anyone. read more

On my way to a very dirty ladies room, I peeked into the kitchen and saw one of the staff member wipe his sweat and then taste the curry he was making. He didn't even wash his hands. Seriously, why do you have an Indian restaurant when you are going to treat Indians like trash? Is it because you believe we don't leave good tips (I overheard this, as soon as I arrived in the restaurant). Watch your actions Mr. Clean with hair, it's a small restaurant and you are not as slick as you think. Let me tell you something buddy, the tip you receive is directly porpotional to the service you provide. If you have a problem with Indians, then put a board in front of your restaurants that state, " No Indians allowed, they aren't good tippers." Is your service only limited towards rich people, who have bundles of money to give you as a tip?? I work hard for my money and every money spend has to be deserved. I have been going to this restaurant for almost over a year on regular basis. I have had always appreciated the greatness of the food and the service that is offered in this restaurant. But recently I have noticed that the freshness of the food is not to the same level as it used to be before. During my recent visit on Saturday(Dec. 1), my food tasted like it was cooked long time ago and somebody served me the same dish by warming it in a microwave. Yes, as another reviewer said, read the review dates. This place has been under new ownership and management the past 2 years and it is no longer good. It use to be a real gem and it was one of my favorite restaurants in Santa Fe. The manager was a lovely man. I heard he moved to California. It was a real loss for santa fe. My family ate here after the new management. It was not good and and we got horrible food poisoning. read more
