WARNING: DO NOT BUY A VIVINT SECURITY SYSTEM -- You'll Regret It!…read more I wish someone had warned me before I got stuck in this mess -- so let me be that warning for YOU. Vivint locks you into a 5-year contract that sounds great on paper but turns into a nightmare fast. The reps sound helpful... until it's time to actually fix something. Then you're bounced around from department to department, nobody has real answers, and the solutions? Nonexistent. They're quick to take your money, but if you need help or want out? Good luck. I recently sold my home and sold the Vivint equipment with it -- thinking, naturally, that the new owner would take over the service. WRONG. Vivint does NOT require the new homeowner to take over the contract. Even if they agree initially, their sales reps can and will talk them out of it. Yes, you read that right. So now guess what? Vivint is charging both ME and the new owner for the same service at the same property. Even worse? Because the panel is still at the old address, I can't access my account, update anything, or unlink my info. Their tech system literally doesn't allow them to separate the panel from the original account. Their solution? "Buy more equipment at your new place" to finish the contract -- to the tune of $1,000+. Or, cancel early and pay 50% of your remaining contract. Either way, you lose. Lesson learned the hard way: If you still move forward with Vivint (and I highly suggest you don't), then make sure your sales contract with the buyer includes a mandatory service account takeover. Honestly though? Just don't buy from Vivint. Their customer service is garbage, their system is flawed, and their business model is shady. Save yourself the stress, the money, and the BS. You've been warned.

We required a system that was easy-to-use but delivered quality surveillance footage. The system was designed with panoramic or 360-degree cameras which reduced the total amount of cameras needed to cover key areas and allowed for the beauty of our facility to shine in which we were awarded Excellence in Design for New Construction at the 2017 Design Evanston Awards. Having Umbrella Technologies on the construction and planning team was of great value to our organization and after the system was turned over to our administrative team they were responsive and continued to answer all of our questions. We have on-going training planned with them & are very thankful for the video surveillance system they designed which serves to keep our staff, children and families focused on what matters. He has always taken the time to help us with whatever we needed. On multiple occasions he took the time to do online demonstrations on their products and answer any questions that we may have had. They also provide advice on camera placement and what materials will be needed to make them operational. Thomas also does not try to up-sell or try to sell you things you don't need. He is honest with his evaluations and his quotes. Umbrella Technologies and Thomas have earned our business for all future camera purchases and I'd recommend them to other colleges or universities for Campus Security Services. Last summer, we had a break-in at our condo entrance, and found a need for a Full Length Interlocking Door Guard. (Highly recommended as burglars love to shimmy a screwdriver between your door and lock & open into your place easier than a SPAM can.) Pro Video Security let us select the guard. They gave a great bid to put install. We even chose to do 2 doors, given their great rate. Flash forward to 6 months later we found a small (but significant) installation error on one of the doors. Rather than haggle and hassle, they came right out and fixed it at ZERO extra cost. (As expected.) On top of that: The fix came right on time. We caught this picture of a rather infamous trio (USPS is after them) trying to break in and being foiled by the door guard. SEE PIC.

I wanted to be able to keep a watch on the dogs and also of course on my house in general. I bought the equipment from Provideo and I am all the way in California, so I had a local person install the equipment for me, and Perry took over the remote customer service, which has been far above and beyond what anybody could ever expect from customer service. If anything goes wrong, he is right there ready to help me fix it and get it up and running again. I could probably find someone locally, but there is no way I would ever find such great, friendly, knowledgeable customer service. So wherever you are in the world, these guys are the best! Thank you, Perry!

I hadn't had any luck finding a reputable company asking friends, family, or neighbors, so I decided to google local companies who might be able to help. That's how I found Video-Comm. The reviews looked promising, so I gave them a call. Rafael answered and agreed to come over the same day. I told him the cameras over my garage were out, and he agreed to try and repair them. Rafael told me there'd be a service fee plus the cost of labor. He quoted me a conservative estimate of about $300. Rafael and his colleague Diego arrived on time and ready to work. I left them to work in the rear of the property while I tended to my yard. They worked diligently for about three hours before successfully repairing the cameras. It turns out that the wires needed to be replaced. Rafael and Diego replaced the existing wires with copper wires and rewired them. I'm not sure of all the technical jargon, but that was the gist of it. Rafael and Diego had their own truck that had all the equipment they needed. They were quiet and respectful of the property. They cleaned up after themselves, leaving the space as they first encountered it. The final bill was $308. I found Rafael competent, professional, and affable. I'll definitely be calling him again if necessary. In fact, I asked him to send over a quote for an upgraded set of cameras. Now that I've found someone I trust, I'll definitely get new cameras sometime soon.
