Stopped by insomnia cookies after an event I had in the area. My server Jennifer was super nice, she gave her recommendations, and suggested getting the app. I ordered 4 premium cookies, 2 of the peach cobbler, 1 of the salted caramel, and 1 of the chocolate peanut butter cup. I haven't been to insomnia is so long, I didn't realize they sold ice cream now too. This location is just a pick up and go place, no seating. I will definitely be back.

~Monica's T.A.S.T.E. Test~ Taste: We had a 6 pack- 1 sugar cookie, 1 double chocolate, 1 mint chocolate, 1 snickerdoodle, 1 m&m, and 1 oatmeal raisin. While they were all good (because cookies) the clear winner was the mint chocolate. Next time, were skipping the others and going straight for the mint chocolate. Atmosphere: We went inside the storefront and were surprised by how tiny it is in there. Definitely a grab and go counter service. It was also a little dirty, so minus half a star here. Service: The counter server was nice enough. However we almost got pushed out of the way by a delivery man whose backpack barely fit in the narrow walk way and he was in such a hurry he didn't notice. Minus half a star here. Tab: 6 cookies pack for 11$. A little pricey for cookies but they come warm and ready so the convenience factor makes it worth it. Extra wow factor: Lots of flavors and 3 mega cookies (each 3$) that look amazing. Definitely trying those next time. Does it pass the T.A.S.T.E test? Yes! Cookie addiction is now in full swing.

The lady is super sweet and I visit her every Sunday to buy these cookies. The seasonal ones are a bit expensive but I love this place!

I don't know why I'm so out of the loop with what's going on in Lincoln Park, but just like a…read morerestaurant across the street from here, I have NEVER heard of this place. I used to hang out in this area for three years straight for dance class and grad school and just totally overlooked it. It was founded in 1988, and I have no clue when it came to Chicago though so maybe I didn't. I just had a sweet tooth after leaving Blue Sushi across the street (and didn't realize they had a dessert menu). I could not care less about cake, donuts or pie, but I can demolish ice cream and/or candy like nobody's business. The problem is, as a second-round vegan, it's tough for me to find nondairy desserts. I poked my head in here 99.9% sure they were going to say everything was dairy. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that they had a new Silk chocolate almond milk ice cream. I wish I caught the lady's name that was there today because she was so bubbly and friendly. When I stared at her in confusion after she asked me did I want "Like it, Love It or Gotta Have It," I realized this order was about to be involved. I like the way that the employees mix your toppings around in the ice cream instead of dumping them on top where you end up eating them way too fast. A family member stopped to take my pic while I tasted a spoonful, and I guess I looked extra happy because I caught the lady behind the counter smile as big as I did. Happiness is contagious. Anyway, love the place. Love my almond milk frozen dessert. There's only one table to sit at and someone was there, so I flopped down on a nearby bench and enjoyed my birthday sweet!

It's pretty small inside, there are only a few tables. A server comes to your table to place your order, which I feel like never happens at ice cream shops anymore! The menu is huge! There were multiple sections to banana splits, sundaes, and shakes. We decided to go with something simple. My son ordered 2 scoops of cookies n cream ice cream (with sprinkles of course) and I got moose tracks! The ice cream is the real deal. Our server was super sweet, and we were in and out of there in probably 30-45 minutes. We had the best time and will definitely be back this summer.

(The fact that the joint's been around for over 100 years doesn't hurt either.) It's a small restaurant but we managed to snag a cozy table near the back. We'd already spent most of the day eating, so we decided to share the Atomic Fudge Sundae. It's a fairly enormous concoction. I found it interesting that the hot fudge was served on the side, but it's actually pretty smart because you get control how much (or how little) sauce you get. The ice cream is the highlight. It's creamy and rich, and it's got a really nice flavor, too. The hot fudge was less impressive, but that might be because I had already eaten a Ghirardelli sundae earlier in the day and their hot fudge just can't be beat. The service was super friendly and the atmosphere was kitschy and fun. It's a cool place.

Back then, the ice cream was outstanding, and the experience matched its reputation. Today, I live in Glenview, so we usually go to Oberweis because it's much closer. Their ice cream is consistently excellent, and the stores are always clean and well maintained. We decided to give Homer's another try the other night, and it was honestly very disappointing. The building looks like it hasn't been updated in years. The paint is peeling, the ceiling tiles are stained and dirty, and the entire place feels worn out and neglected. After all the success Homer's has had over the decades, it's surprising that more hasn't been invested back into the store. Even more disappointing was the ice cream itself. I don't know if the recipe has changed, but the texture and overall quality were nowhere near what I remember. It honestly reminded me of inexpensive, mass-produced ice cream rather than the premium product Homer's was once known for. Of all the local ice cream shops in the area, this was my least favorite experience. It's really a shame because Homer's was once an institution on the North Shore with an incredible reputation. I sincerely hope the owners take a hard look at both the condition of the store and the quality of the product. This place deserves better than what it's become. Unfortunately, after this visit, I won't be returning.
